How to embed more than 393 chars in form fields

how to embed more than 1000 character in the field.
I have written a xsl template which is about 2 pages in length.
How do I embed it in the word template fields.

1. create a new template and flag it as sub template
2. import this in rtf using <?import:xdo://APPCODE.TEMPLATE_CODE.lang.TERR?>
where
APPCODE is the Application code you assigned to the subtemplate in the Template Manager. For example, if you associated this template with the Receivables application, enter "AR".
TEMPLATE_CODE is the template Code you assigned to the subtemplate in the Template Manager. For example, AR_CommonComponents.
lang is the two-letter ISO 639 language code for the template language you specified for the subtemplate in the Template Manager (for example, English is "en"). This entry must be lowercase.
TERR is the two-letter ISO 3166 country code for the template territory you specified for the subtemplate in the Template Manager (for example, United States of America is "US"). This entry must be uppercase.

I am using ALV grid with OO.
I have used call screen for ALV grid display. I have to display more than 255 characters in width. While running it, I can see the list perfectly.
But in background mode, the list is truncated after 255 chars.
Can anybody help how to send complete list(width more than 255 chars) to spool.

Hi SAP fan,
YES you can run the ALV report in background mode.
To run the report in background do F9 instead of F8, then give immediate and save.
Now goto Sm35 goto job overview and view the job listed
Choose the job and press the spool button. It will show the list created on the next page. When u clcik the list u can see the ALV output.
To see this the job should be in the finished status.
How to define Periodic Jobs
1.Execute transaction SM36
2.Define Job name, Job class, Target server
3.Click on 'START CONDITION' button
4.Click on 'Date/Time' button
5.Enter Scheduled start DATE & TIME. Check mark 'Periodic Job' field. Click on 'Period values' button and select 'Hourly' or 'Dialy' or 'Weekly' or 'Monthly' or Other period and SAVE. Go back to main screen.
6.Click on 'STEPS' button and enter Program name and Variant under box 'ABAP Program'. Click on 'Print Specification' button and enter Printer name under 'Output device' and SAVE
7.Click on SAVE button until you get message on bottom of the screen that describes 'Job XYZ saved with status: Scheduled'.
8.Click on 'Job overview' button or execute SM37 transaction.
9.Select the appropriate 'Job name', 'User name', 'Job Status' & Schedule date under 'Job start condition' and click on 'Execute' button or press F8.
10.You will now see all your scheduled JOBS.

You can Run in Background but make sure it is alv list, not alv Grid FM. if you are uisng alv list not problem , but if you are using alv grid then you can code like this..

How to handle more than 255 char in excel att. in FM SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1

My requirement is to send a report as an excel attatchment to the respective managers mail box. For this I am using the function module SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1 as follows.

Hi,
You can try the following things:
1. Use a datatype STRING and check it will work.
2. In se11 transaction goto datatype and search for char* in data elements.
You will find predefined data types ,you can make use of it.
For eg. char2000,char3000,char4000 etc.

Save More than 1000 chars in a field of (Z) Database Table?

Hi Friends,
I created a database table with few fields. In the table, one field is REMARKS which should save more than 1000 characters for every record. For that field, I created domain & data element of char with 2000 length. But system gives an error representing that "Should not be more than 255 chars ".
Even, select statement is also retrieving 132 chars only, if remarks are less than 255 and greater than 150 chars.
Could you please provide me solution?

Hi,
The Most simple solution for it can be that Divide the field REMARKS of size 1000 in multiples of 200 characters like REMARK1, REMARK2....REMARKn.
Now you can create two FMs :
zset_data: To Store 1000 char long data in Table
Here you will divide the data of Variable (type char1024) in multiples of 200 and will store in REMARK1, REMARK2.....
zget_data: To Get 1000 char long data back from Table
Here you will concatenate REMARK1, REMARK2..... and will store in Variable of Type char1024.
This is the best solution if Table is not going to be maintained by Table Maintenance Generator.

In READ_TEXT function module, TLINE structure has the component TDLINE with 132 characters. So, u can't read more than 132 characters. If u want to read more than that, u have to write FM of ur own which can read more than 132 characters.

How to send more than one parameter from FORM to REPORT?

i can send one parameter from FORM to REPORT. but when i send more than one parameter it gives error: frm 41214 unable to run report.

How to use more than one connection in forms 6.0

I'm working with FORMS 6.0 and tried to open a second connection which should only be opened at once when Fomrs is starting and closed when FORMS is closing.
The following code is working very well: (I've cut the defines and the exceptionhandling)

My problem is, that I want to use this connection from different scripts (procedures / packages and triggers) of my application. This means opening and closing the connection should be done not in the same function than accessing the SQL-command.
The only way I could find to create a variable is to use :global.varname. The ConnectionId I get as returnvalue is of the type EXEC_SQL.ConnType. You can not define globals of this type.
So, does anybody know how to define a variable from this type, so that it is accessible from each script in froms?

database links are named connections to other databases established between databases. So if you are working against database1 but require access to a schema in database2 then you can access this through database1 using the database link.
however this doesn't solve your problem and unfortunately nothing will solve your problem. Forms uses internal caching and automated locking that doesn't allow Forms to recover if the database you are connected to goes down. All you can do is to setup the database in that a user that disconnects due to the administrator shutting down the database (naughty boy) will be connected to another database when restarting the application.
For the authorized actions, I suggest to wrap these actions in stored procedures and grant access privileges through database roles. This way a user that tries to perform an action that he isn't allowed to do will get an Exception that you can gracefully handle in Forms. The stored procedure can handle the logging as well.
Another really cool feature of the Oracel database is fine grained access control akna (Virtual private Databases VPD). Using VPDs a user specific context is set when the user connects so that he can't see what he isn't allowed to and cannot do what he isn't authorized. If you have the chance to read the database documentation, its fairly easy to implement.

How to add more than one rows to form, without submitting to database

Now, as much as I'm aware the standard thing is that when I add a row, put in data and then add a nother row, previous data is commited and another row is added.
I, on the other hand, would like to add as much rows as I need and populate them with data and then submitt all the changes in the end. So the user nows, that when he SAVES data it's submited to db, not in between.
My form is not standard, it uses SQL, and APEX_ITEM, I even have more updatable reports on one page etc, so I presume, processes like AddRowToTabularForm don't come handy.

Add that X(select list) number of rows, populate rows, then insert?

How to enter more than 132 characters in a Parameters Field

Hi Everyone,
I have a field of type file_table-filename as Parameters in my Selection-screen. The size of the filename is 1024 characters as declared in the structure file_table. But when i am trying to enter the path into this field, its allowing not more than 132 characters....how is it possible to enter more characters? Even in debugging mode the maximum value we can scroll is upto 128/132 characters..if we want more then we should use the Offset option...but how to enter more than 132 chars into this field?

How to create a text which can support more than 500 chars ?

Hi all:
    In my interactive form, I have one text, the value inside this text is longtext, the length will be more than 500 chars.
    My problem is now , if there is more than 100 chars, there will be duplicated chars in this text.
    Can I make this text support overlap ? when the value have too many chars, it will display in next row ? is it possible ?

The 2 points are compulsory for multiline display.
Could you please let me know the following things.
1. Is that field is wrapped by any position content subform.If this is the case, try making flow content.
2. Is there any field below the text field and the 2 fields are wrapped in position content, In this case also make the subform as flow content.
Refer the example form FP_TEST_01 in SFP transaction.Check the subform and field properties.
Make a backup before making changes.

How to transfer data more than 255 char from excel sheet to internal table.

I have a requirement where i have a text field in the excel sheet of more than 255 char and need to be updated in the text element. To do that i need to transfer the excel sheet data to an internal table where one of the field is more than 255 char.
in the standard function module it works only upto 255 char. Can you help me if we have some other way to get more than 255 char in the internal table from excel sheet.

Using .xls, it is not possible transfer data more than 255 characters from excel sheet. However if the excel sheet is saved as Comma Delimited format or Tab Delimited format, then using GUI_DOWNLOAD function module data more than 255 characters can be transferred.
File name should be : .csv (Comma Delimited format) or .txt (Tab Delimited format)
File Type would still remain 'ASC' while calling function module GUI_DOWNLOAD
Also In the internal table declare the field type as String or LCHAR.
Eg:
TYPES: begin of ty_file,
        col_a TYPE string,
      end of ty_file.

               of ty_file
             with header line

ORA-01704:String literal too long with update of more than 4000 chars

Hi,
I want to update a table column in Oracle Database(version 10) with more than 4000 chars.
The datatype of the table column is NCLOB.
I want to achieve this with one single line of update query as below,
update mytable set MY_DESCRIPTION = 'longdesc' where ID = '111' ;
But there's a problem, if the 'longdesc' is more than 4000 chars, it gives the error , "ORA-01704:String literal too long"
How can I achieve this in sql developer ?
I dont want to do this using stored procedures, I want to do this update using only sql statement.
Please help.

Hello Sudhakar,
I am afraid, this will never work by SQL.
Just because an SQL-Statement must not contain a string literal over 4,000 characters (or did that change lately?).
Maybe you can bypass the limit with PL/SQL ... but you will certainly run into the 32K limit sooner or later

And I want to have a document of hundreds of pages!
