How  to get the value of multi-select in the   Dashboard Prompt

I have a multi-select prompt in the Dashboard Prompt,  what I want is,   how do I know that user has choose one value,
for examle,  for some reasons,  if user didn't choose any value,  then I will set one column in answer as "customer office" , if user choose one value, then the column in answer will be "customer name".
any comments, thanks.

Hi,
first define the presentation variable for the required column prompt. ex: PV
Then in report level set the filter for that column = @{PV}{customer office}. here u have to give default value as "customer office", so by default the report in dashboard will show customer office even though the user does not select any value from dashboard prompt.
Mark If Helpful/correct.
Thanks.

  • Get all values from multi select in a servlet

    Hello,
    I have a multi <select> element in a HTML form and I need to retrieve the values of ALL selected options of this <select> element in a servlet.
    HTML code snippet
    <select name="elName" id="elName" multiple="multiple">
    Servlet code snippet
    response.setContentType("text/html");
    PrintWriter out = null;
    out = response.getWriter();
    String output = "";
    String[] str = request.getParameterValues("elName");
    for(String s : str) {
    output += s + ":";
    output = output.substring(0, output.length()-1); // cut off last deliminator
    out.println(output);But even when selecting multiple options, the returned text only ever contains the value of the first selected option in the <select>
    What am I doing wrong? I'm fairly new to servlets

    I am using AJAX.
    I will show you how I'm submitting the <select> values by showing you the flow of code:
    This is the HTML code for the <select> tag and the button that sends the form data:
    <form name="formMain" id="formMain" method="POST">
         <input type="button" id="addOpts" name="addOpts" value="Add Options" style="width:auto; visibility:hidden" onClick="jsObj.addOptions('servletName', document.getElementById('elName'))">
         <br>
         <select name="elName" id="elName" multiple="multiple" size="1" onChange="jsObj.checkSelected()">
              <option value="0"> - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - </option>
         </select>
    </form>Note that the "visibility:hidden" part of the button style is set to "visible" when at least one option is selected
    Note that "jsObj" relates to a java script object that has been created when the web app starts ( The .js file is included in the .jsp <head> tag )
    The following code is taken from the file: "jsObj.js"
    jsObj = new jsObj();
    function jsObj() {
    //=================================================
         this.addOptions = function(url, elName) {
              var theForm = document.getElementById('formMain');
              if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { // code for IE7+, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari
                   xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest();
              } else { // code for IE6, IE5
                   xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
              url += this.buildQueryString(theForm.name);
              xmlhttp.open("POST",url,true);
              xmlhttp.send(null);
              xmlhttp.onreadystatechange=function() {
                   if(xmlhttp.readyState==4) { // 4 = The request is complete
                        alert(xmlhttp.responseText);
    //=================================================
    this.buildQueryString = function(formName) {
              var theForm = document.forms[formName];
              var qs = '';
              for (var i=0; i<theForm.elements.length; i++) {
                   if (theForm.elements.name!='') {
                        qs+=(qs=='')? '?' : '&';
                        qs+=theForm.elements[i].name+'='+escape(theForm.elements[i].value);
              return qs;
         //=================================================
    }And this is a code snippet from the "servletName" servlet:public synchronized void doGet(HttpServletRequest request,
              HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException,IOException {
              PrintWriter out = null;
              try {
                   response.setContentType("text/html");
                   out = response.getWriter();
                   String output = "";
                   String[] values = request.getParameterValues("elName");
                   for(String s : values) {
                        output += s + ":";
                   output = output.substring(0, output.length()-1); // cut off last delimitor
                   out.println(output);
                   } catch (Exception e) {
         }So anyway, everthing compiles / works, except for the fact that I'm only getting back the first selected <option> in the 'elName' <select> tag whenever I select multiple options

  • Storing the values of multi-select on a presentation variable

    I've been asked to present the values selected by a user on a multi-select dashboard prompt as the title for the report. But when you select this option at the time you are creating the prompt, the option to store the values in a presentation variable dissapears, seems that you can only store the value if it comes from a dropdown list ? If anybody knows of a way to accomplish this I would appreciate very much if you can share it.
    Thanks,

  • Limitation for values in Multi Select in prompts?

    Hi all...I have a dashboard with a report and a prompt .
    I have multi select enabled in prompt. I defaulted that prompt to a single value.
    I have 1700 values in multi select. The user wants to select all. When user selected all and hit GO on prompt,
    it is not taking all values but still getting defaulted value output of report.
    How do I fix this?

    Try doing this. Instead of using a dashboard prompt, do this:
    1) Add a pivot table to your Compound Layout view (if you already have one, then just modify it as follows.)
    2) Duplicate the layer of the "prompt" column and put it in the Pages section.
    3) Left click the "sigma sign" in the Pages section of the pivot table and select either "Before" or "After." This will add the "All Pages" option either "before" or "after" the individual values. I recommend "Before" since you have 1700 values.
    4) Once more, left click the "sigma sign" in the Pages section of the pivot table, but this time, select "Format Labels." Now you can rename "All Pages" to "All Choices" or whatever you want to call it.

    So where is going wrong and what the message means?. Any help very much appreciated. Thanks

    These are just guesses that might hopefully steer you in directions you haven't looked in yet.
    I presume you used triangle brackets (< >) to avoid having the Jive Forum think it was the "italics" tag?
    Are you certain this: dbaseInfo.getcurrentDistrictID(nstate,vselectedDistrict);
    expects a Vector as its second parameter? And returns a Vector?
    I don't believe you've shown how you use the javabean, or its code? Perhaps it should be rewritten to accept an array of strings instead of a Vector?

  • How to Select More then 1000 values in Multi-Select prompt!!!

    Hello Users,
    I have Scenario where i have to pass all the values from prompt to report and the values in the prompt are coming from session variable, so whatever value access user has the report will run with that only...
    Now the question is that Multi-Select Prompt is not able to take more then certain values, so is there any way that we can increase the limit for selected values??
    in-short how to increase the limit for selected values in multi-select prompt??
    Thanks In Advance!!!

    Hey David,
    The Scenario is like, we have data level security on "Unit" attribute. now based on the user selection when user logs in he should able to see the report only for those units which he/she has access.
    in total we have 1800 units available, now for 5-10 units access is fine, but the question will arise when user will not have only some units access from 1800 units.
    because report will not take those values from the multi-select prompt reason is that multi-select prompt is not able to take more then certain values in selected side.
    now in multi-select until-unless u have data coming in selected side those values will not pass. so i have kept the sql in default for that prompt.
    so when user logs in he will able to see those values in selected side for the multi-select prompt, but when values increase from some level it's going automatically in un-selected side.
    i want everything on selected side of multi-select prompt.
    Let me know if you need any further details.

    The events of BDT can be used to default some fields on creating a partner.
    For this create a function module for ISDAT. attach that event in BUS7.
    In the ISDAT funtion modulethe following code should be used.
    For example to set the nationality:
    I_BUSDEFAULT-NATIO = 'DE.
    CALL FUNCTION 'BUP_BUPA_FIELDVALUES_SET'

  • How to get updated values from the loops while they are running

    Hello,
            I am having difficulty solving a very basic problem, how to access the updated values from the 'FOR loop' while its running?  Basically, the VI  I am currently working on calls two sub VIs. Each sub VI has a for loop, and both VIs may or may not run for same number of iterations. My goal is to read the values at each terminal inside the loop of both sub VIs, in the Main VI. I tried to achieve it using Global Variables, but in main VI it displays only the last iteration value from both sub VIs. Could anyone please tell me whrere am I going wrong? Is there any other/better way to achieve this.
    I appreciate any input on this issue.
    Kudos are (always) welcome for the good post. :-)
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Dennis,
                In attached VI, I can see the values changing in the sub VI from the main VI with the numeric indicator whose reference is passed on to the sub VI. Now if I wanted to store or use those values how do I do that? I tried to chnge the indicator to control and read from it (in the attached VI) , but the the indicator updates only once. Tried to create a property node and read the Value from it and it didn't work either.
    Thanks in Advance!

                    spacing: 20
                    content: [
                        RadioButton {
                            toggleGroup: levelGroup
                            text: "Easy"
                            selected: false
                        RadioButton {
                            toggleGroup: levelGroup
                            text: "Medium"
                            selected: true
                        RadioButton {
                            toggleGroup: levelGroup
                            text: "Hard"
                            selected: false
    }

    Actually, your code above wouldn't have worked in JavaFX 1.2 as we only added the value property to the new Toggle mixin in 1.3. I believe what worked for you in 1.2 was when you referred to text, which is not a property on Toggle, so you need to cast the selected variable from Toggle to a RadioButton, which does have a text property. For example, this would work:
    var selected: Toggle = bind levelGroup.selectedToggle on replace {
        println("level toggle = {(selected as RadioButton).text}");
        println("selectedToggle = {(levelGroup.selectedToggle as RadioButton).text}");
    }Alternatively, instead of casting like this, you can store a value in the value property of the Toggle mixin class, which is extended by RadioButton. For example, your code could be changed to the following (in particular note that the only change is the addition of the value properties in each of the RadioButton):
    import javafx.scene.Scene;
    import javafx.stage.Stage;
    import javafx.scene.control.ToggleGroup;
    import javafx.scene.control.RadioButton;
    import javafx.scene.layout.HBox;
    import javafx.scene.control.Toggle;
    def levelGroup = ToggleGroup {};
    var selected: Toggle = bind levelGroup.selectedToggle on replace {
        println("level toggle = {selected.value}");
        println("selectedToggle = {levelGroup.selectedToggle.value}");
    Stage {
       scene: Scene {
          width: 300
          height: 300
          content: [
             HBox {
                    translateX: 100
                    translateY: 67
                    spacing: 20
                    content: [
                        RadioButton {
                            toggleGroup: levelGroup
                            text: "Easy"
                            selected: false
                            value: "Easy"
                        RadioButton {
                            toggleGroup: levelGroup
                            text: "Medium"
                            selected: true
                            value: "Medium"
                        RadioButton {
                            toggleGroup: levelGroup
                            text: "Hard"
                            selected: false
                            value: "Hard"
    }This approach saves you from having to cast from Toggle to RadioButton. This second approach is actually very powerful, as you can store any object in the value field, and can then easily retrieve it at a later point when the user selects the desired RadioButton. Of course, you can just use it as in the simple case above as well.
    I hope that helps.

  • Select multiple values in mult-select list

    I have the following query as the source for a multi-select page item:
    SELECT person.person_id
    FROM person, pers_proj_task
    WHERE pers_proj_task.person_id = person.person_id
    AND pers_proj_task.project_id = :P3_PROJECT_ID
    The query returns two records and the page item's session value is 4:3, but only the value 4 is highlighted in the mulit-select list. How can I get both values to be highlighted?

    Got it to work for a multi-select item by following Dimitri's post which uses a shuttle example. It was still only highlighting one value, but I tried Patrick Wolf's suggestion from the comments on Dimitri's post to put the pl/sql block in the source of the item rather than as a computation and it worked.
    So I now have a multi-select list which has default values pulled from a LOV. The items that are highlighted by default are selected by using the following pl/sql block in the "source/value or expression" of the :P3_PERSON_ID multi-select item:
    declare
    person_list apex_application_global.vc_arr2;
    i number := 1;
    begin
    for r in ( SELECT person.person_id
    FROM person, pers_proj_task
    WHERE pers_proj_task.person_id = person.person_id
    AND pers_proj_task.project_id = :P3_PROJECT_ID)
    loop
    person_list(i) := r.person_id;
    i := i + 1;
    end loop;
    return APEX_UTIL.TABLE_TO_STRING(person_list,':');
    end;
    Thanks to Amanda, ArtS, Dimitri and Patrick.

  • Extending Screens for Multi-Select in the LightSwitch HTML Client

    Hi i
    read Mike Droney's article of
    Extending Screens for Multi-Select in the LightSwitch HTML Client
    But i just want to understand the code, so what is the ‘__isSelected’ property? from where does it come?
    why does the contentItem.value.details have an ‘__isSelected’ property?
    is the value of the contentItem not the screen?
    and also how can i implement the ‘Can Execute Code’ only if one or more check boxes are checked?
    Thanks

    The '__isSelected' property is a private member of the class msls.ContentItem related to the backing data for the selected item.  That is to say, it would be a private member if JavaScript actually had encapsulation and information hiding like a typical
    object-oriented language. I like to reference David Herman's description from his book
    Effective JavaScript:
    Often, JavaScript programmers resort to coding conventions rather than any absolute enforcement mechanism for private properties. For example, some programmers use naming conventions such as prefixing or suffixing private property names with an underscore
    character (_). This does nothing to enforce information hiding, but it suggests to well-behaved users of an object that they should not inspect or modify the property so that the object can remain free to change its implementation.
    ...which means that it's generally not recommended to directly get or set backing data properties like __isSelected, instead working with the public property 'selectedItem', although it may work fine in certain cases like this one.
    To make _canExecute fire only when an item in the list is selected to enable a button method, try:
    return (screen.Contacts.selectedItem !== null);
