However, if you need all your documents updated on both Macs, you can use a cloud service as iCloud or Dropbox to sync your documents. I would suggest looking into a Thunderbolt to HDMI connector. In this case, you may be able to use the TV as an external monitor. For this option, please confirm through additional research. I have not tested it personally.
You can also use an Apple TV, which connects with HDMI. In this case, you can use Airplay Mirroring. Not all Macs support Airplay Mirroring, so you need to check first. I have a Mid-2011 27" iMac, and it supports Airplay Mirroring. I don't use it often because my TV is in another room, but I just tried it and it worked. Only, if your photos have been synced to the iPad from a computer, you will have to save them first to the camera roll; then you can download them by connecting the iPad via USB.

I can't get a thunderbolt connection to work between my iMac and new macbook air

I would like to establish a connection between my iMac and new macbook air using a thunderbolt connector. Nothing seems to happen when I plug the cable in to each device. When I open Settings/Network it shows up the Thunderbolt bridge as 'Not Connected' on the MacBook and as 'Some Connected' on the iMac. I have no problems with connecting another device (iPad) to the iMac. Can anyone help please?
