How to save files to disk without losing image quality

Hi, I'm a Visual Basic developer and I'm doing an acquisition system with a CCD camera and 1408 IMAQ framegrabber. I need to save the images into a hard disk. My problem is that when i begin to save images to disk, the acquisition's performance come down (the images gets slow).
Now I'm using the ActiveX CWImaq provideing by National Instruments.
I would be grateful if you would send me any advice.
regards.

There is a really good tutorial on the developer zone called IMAQ Acquisition, Images, and Displaying in Visual Basic , which talks also about buffered image acquisition in Visual Basic.
You can find built-in examples of how to do buffered image acquisition in the following folder with the default path: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-IMAQ\Sample\VB\
I hope this helps!

No, especially not video files. That's way too much scaling.

  • PLEASE HELP! 67MG PDF file can't reduce to email without losing image quality

I have created an 88 page fashion look book for work and it needs to be emailed out pronto to our customers!
I created it using In Design (the latest version)
I saved it as a PDF for my records - Highest Quality for printing purposes.
I open it in the latest version of  Adobe Acrobat Pro XI - Version 11
When I compress the file it goes form 67Mg down to 10MG which is great, however the image quality is not good enough.
Being a fashion brand we need it to look crystal clear!
Can anyone help me and tell me where I am going wrong???
    Thanks you in advance, Nicky

Try working on the images themselves before you create the original document. I don't normally recommend JPeg, but if you have pictures the feature of JPegs that reduces the color sharpness may help. Once you have what you want, you might then change it to a TIFF or PNG file. You can also do an audit in the PDF (save as>PDF Optimize) to see where the bloat is located. It is likely in the images. In that case you need to see how to reduce the size of the original images (actually work on copies so your originals stay good). It may be that you are using too many pixels (300-600 should be good in most cases) or you might be able to reduce the color depth (256 colors might be adequate. When you use the photo in ID, be sure you use it at 100%. If you need to change the size, do it in a graphics package that can properly interpolate the bits. You should do physical size reduction before you reduce the resolution. It may be that what is happening when you do the compression to 10MB is that the interpolation of the pixels is getting in the way. So doing all of this on the graphic before you use it would help a lot. I may not be a graphic expert, but trying to work on the original graphic to size and quality before you use it is typically a first step to a good look. PhotoShop should be able to do the reduction, but a simple program for such is IrfanView.

  • MBP goes to Mac OSX utilities, How do I get it running without losing all my files?

My late 08 mbp froze yestersay. I turned it off and turned it back on, when i did, it went straight to Mac OSX utilities and it is saying I need to restore my computer. I have a lot of files from school on here that I cannot lose. How can I get it running without losing all my files? Please helpp
    Thank you

Do you have any backups?  I'm guessing not, from what you've said, in which case you may be about to learn the hard way why backups are important.
First, when your computer boots into recovery mode, try using Disk Utility to repair the hard drive.  If there are no problems to repair, the cause is elsewhere.  If the problems are fixed, try rebooting and see if the system is working again.  If the problems cannot be fixed, you could try a program like DiskWarrior, which can fix things Disk Utility cannot.
If repairs work, or were not necessary, but the system still won't start up, try reinstalling the system.  It will just install over your existing system files, leaving everything else intact.  (In theory, anyway...  if there's something badly wrong, you can never count on that, but without backups you have few choices.)
If the disk absolutely cannot be repaired by anything, you can try recovering important files to another hard drive using something like Data Rescue, File Salvage or Stellar Phoenix.
Regardless of what happens, you need to start backing up ASAP.  See my Mac Backup Guide for more information.

  • Since you can no longer backup to disk, how to restore from external drive without losing all ratings and playlists

since you can no longer backup to disk, how to restore from external drive without losing all ratings and playlists?

My own opinion is that you should install the later appropriate version of Silverkeeper. That said, I would in fact recommend if you can wait a few days for an answer, that you email the La Cie Silverkeeper backup team via the email link on the site at http://www.lacie.com/silverkeeper/
They are careful to say they are not officially providing a backup service, but when I emailed them with a query regarding usage about a year ago after downloading Silverkeeper for myself, I got a reply within a couple of days that cleared up my question.

  • How to export from iMovie HD without losing quality?

I created a movie in iMovie HD made from clips from my camera which records great quality HD video, and now I want to export it and save as a movie file so that I can import it into iMovie '09 as part of a larger project. However, every time I try to export it, the resulting file has noticeably worse quality than when I view it in iMovie HD. I have tried the "full quality" option which exports as a .mov file, but the quality is much worse. I have also tried "Expert settings" choosing DV, AVI and MPEG-4 and have changed the settings to the best options I could find, but still the quality is worsened every time. How can I export my video without losing quality??

Do you mean import what I have in iMovie 09 into iMovie HD/06 instead? I suppose I could but I wanted to add some of iMovie 09's titles and adjustment effects to my iMovie HD/06 project, so it could get quite complicated trying to piece it all together. I may have to do that as a last resort, but does anyone know any way I can get around this?
I would think there must be some way to save my iMovie 06 file as something other than an iMovie file without losing quality... but things aren't always that easy are they?

  • Suddenly cannot place image or resize file without losing resolution quality. Is this a bug?

I have CS3 and have been using Photoshop for several years. Today I randomly encountered a problem I have never had before.
I created a new file, 468 x 60 pixels with a resolution of 200. I then placed a file of a 4.95MB photo in this file. The size of the photo is quite large (resolution also 200)  and I should have had to resize it way down to fit in small 468 x 60 space I had.
Instead, it placed the photo as a much smaller image, almost like a thumbnail of the original. When I went to resize the photo to make it larger, the resolution was terrible.
So then I went to the original file of the photo, copied it, went back to the 468 x 60 file and pasted it. It pasted it as the true size, but when I decreased the size, the resolution went bad. How does that even make sense?
So then I went back to the original file of the photo again and resized it down from there. The resolution went downhill again!
I have tried this with multiple other photos and file sizes and dimensions. I cannot place any large photo file and keep its accurate dimensions/resolutions. I also cannot resize any photo down without losing pixel quality.
The only thing weird that showed up right at the beginning of this whole process was that the pixel aspect ratio window kept popping up even before I'd open a file (it has been set to square).
I have reset all PS preferences through ctrl-alt-shift. I have gone through the Adobe update process. I have done disk clean-up and cleared off nearly 10GB of room on my hard drive. I have restarted over and over. I have also tried this process in Illustrator and had no problems.
Is this a bug? A memory problem? Never have I run into this issue before and I feel like I'm going crazy!

You could make the top layer active and then Cmd-Shift-Option-E
    (stamp visible).
Do the trim and crop and then delete the top layer afterwords.

  • How can I turn off iCloud without losing my documents?

How can I turn off iCloud without losing my documents?
When I try to sign out Icloud I get the warning (( If you turn off Documents & Data, all documents stored in Icloud will be removed from this Mac))
I don,t want to remove my document on my computer, what should I do?

If you are refering to documents such as Pages and Numbers files....
The only way around this is to "save as" you icloud documents using the associated app to a local folder on your mac.  Then turn off icloud.
Of course, when you sign off of icloud, the docs are removed from the mac, but remain in icloud.  In the future when you sign back in, the documents are available to you again.
Oh, and the icloud documents are also stored locally in ...
    ~/Library/Mobile Documents
Note that Library in the user's home folder is now hidden, so you'll have to set Finder to view hidden files.
The Mobile Documents folder has subfolder where copies of the doc/data files are stored.
You can move these files to another folder to save them.

  • How can you delete an app without losing saved data/progress?

How can you delete an app without losing saved data/progress? Is there a way through iCloud? I have an 8gb 4th gen iPod touch. I have a lot of music, so with 8gb, space is limited. Some apps I have take up 20-30 MB. Some of these games I don't play that much, but I don't delete them because I have made a lot of progress (levels, scores, acheivements). It would be nice to delete some of these 30 MB apps that take up precious space, and them redownload them in the future when I have more space, but without having to start the whole game over.
Also, I read somewhere that there might be a way to do this with iCloud, but I don't really know how.
    Thanks!

This is the only way I know of.  It is messy though.

Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.

You are talking about the menu bar of Itunes, right?
Yes. With iTunes open the menu bar is at the top of your screen.
where exactly is the Store/synck you iphone option?
After you authorize the computer connect your iPhone then follow the instructions here > iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer
When you are done transferring the data to the desktop, right or control click the iPhone under Devices left side of the iTunes window then click Back Up.
That way you will have a backup just in case you need to restore your iPhone.

I have seen the Apple webpage suggesting the "five R's" (including restore).  Before doing anything, I want to be sure that restoring or any other action is not going to delete or risk my data.
I would be very grateful if anyone can suggest a fix for this problem, in a way that will not risk my data.
    Thanks in advance!

Did you try a hard reset with the iPod still connected to your PC?  Have you tried multiple USB ports, preferably high powered USB 2.0 ports?
To do a hard reset, first make sure the hold switch is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Have you also worked through each and every single troubleshooting suggestion in this Apple support document?

  • Everytime I try to update to iOS5 on my iPhone 4 I get an error containing 0xE while it is trying to backup data from the iPhone.  I have done everything suggested in Apple support.  How can I upgrade to iOS5 without losing all the data on my phone?

Everytime I try to update to iOS5 on my iPhone 4 I get an error containing 0xE while it is backing up data from the iPhone before installing the new operating system.  I have done everything suggested in Apple support with no success.  I still get the error everytime (about 5 minutes into backing up iPhone data).  How can I upgrade to iOS5 without losing all the data on my iPhone (the error message says that if I continue I will lose all data on the phone)?  If I have already synced the phone before upgrading the OS, would I be able to restore my data after installing the new OS by syncing after the OS upgrade is complete?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem today and was able to resolve it without having to do a restore or reset. The problem had something to do with my mail accounts. The upgrade reset my mail settings, switching both my gmail and my .mac mail to "archive all mail". I went into the General Settings, disabled that setting, and resynced the phone. The "other" storage allottment dropped back down to less than a gig.
Before you restore or reset, I would try that first.

Shouldn't the System property "user.home" reference to that directory on windows? So if you call System.getProperty("user.home");, I think it should return that path at least up to <User Name>. I never really tried it on Windows though.
