How to see URL in Safari 6?

This is driving me nuts. I can't see the URLs of any webpages that are open in any tabs in Safari. There must be some way to view the URL, right?
The search/activity bar at the top of Safari only shows whatever I typed into it last (in any tab), which is typically a search term, not a URL; and the search/activity bar is not specific to tabs, so typing in the bar means you lose anything in the bar associated with another tab.
My question: Is there a way to view the URL of the webpage you are on?
I noticed some other support forums mentioned pressing esc or command-L. Neither works for me. I also don't see anything in any of the Safari menus or preferences, and the status bar doesn't seem to provide this information for the currently open webpage.
Please help! Thanks!

Try this.
Safari > Preference > Advanced
Show Develop menu in menu bar
Checkmark the box to enable it.
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Now control clicking the page should produce a contextual menu.
Best.

  • [iPhone] How to POST url in safari

    Hi!
    I want my app to open url in Safari and to login.
    I know how to just open URL:
    UIApplication *app = [UIApplication sharedApplication];
    [app openURL:[[NSURL alloc] initWithString:@"http://www.somedomain.net"]];
    But there is a login form on that site. Here is it's code:
    <form action="http://www.somedomain.net/login.php" method="post">
    <td width="68%"><input name="username" class="formlogin" size="23" type="text" /></td>
    <td width="10%"> </td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td>Password:</td>
    <td><input name="pass" class="formlogin" size="23" type="password" /></td>
    it looks like I have to POST params to http://www.somedomain.net/login.php
    Well, I know how to POST
    NSString *myRequestString = @"username=sampleuser&pass=samplepass";
    NSData *myRequestData = [NSData dataWithBytes: [ myRequestString UTF8String ] length: [ myRequestString length ] ];
    NSMutableURLRequest *request = [[NSMutableURLRequest alloc] initWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://somedomain.net/login.php" ]];
    [ request setHTTPMethod: @"POST" ];
    [ request setHTTPBody: myRequestData ];
    NSURLConnection *connection = [[NSURLConnection alloc]
    initWithRequest:request
    delegate:self];
    [connection release];
    [request release];
    But how to combine it all together? Just POSTing and calling openURL does not work. Is it possible at all? openURL opens safari and GETs? What if a site could log me in on GET request with username and pass as params, would openURL work then?

    No, you cannot specify a request method in a URL.

  • How to Specify URL in Safari Command Line?

    I would expect that this would work: safari www.google.com
    but it does not. Is there some kind of option switch needed?

    I'm trying to set up a desktop shortcut to Safari, but passing a specific URL to it?
    I don't fully understand Kruskal's question that started this topic.
    But to create a desktop shortcut to a specific web page, just load the page in Safari and then drag the URL from the address bar to the desktop. Click on the little icon (the favicon) to the left of the URL and drag-and-drop.
    Edit: That's the Mac answer to this question; I didn't realize this was in the Windows Safari forum. I'm booting up Windows now to see if this holds true there...
    Edit again: That technique will work if Safari is your default browser in Windows. If not ... not.

  • How to disable the "autoload" of pdf in preview and url in Safari

    I hate that new feature,
    How can i disable the "resume" of pdf in preview and url in Safari on every time i restart those prg?

    Sorry Noel - create an extended desktop and open photoshop - create a file the same size as your second monitor and drag it over to the second screen. Press F to make it full screen and Ctl 1 to make it actual pixels. We now have just what we require for projection mapping onto say a building assuming the second monitor is a projector. Now take a brush and stamp it in the middle of your page - which is on the second monitor, photoshop itself is on your Ist monitor. If you press hold Shift down and stamp your brush at the edge of your full page you will see it jump too the side. It will also do this if you try to drag a selection too close to the edge. The page will begin to scroll to accomodate the selection which is perhaps useful in some circumstances but in others like to projection map it is a horror because we need the page to remain exactly where it is at all times or it will no longer be `registered` to the architecture previously done. Beleive me
    this can be deeply frustrating when you are out in the cold trying to get all the facets of a building mapped, but even when in the warm trying to do it with a theatre set.
    Should you have a solution then you would indeed become much revered in these parts  - best wishes  John   --

    You can't.   (They wouldn't be secure if someone got a hold of your phone.)

  • How do i airprint from safari...can't see any icon

    How do i airprint from safari...can't see any icon or any mechanism, mail is ok though.
    Thanks

    AirPrint is a feature built into the iOS. If the app that you are working in or using has the boxed curved arrow icon at the top - should allow you to print. However, in order to use AirPrint, you must have one of the AirPrint compatible printers.
    The printers with this feature are listed on this web site.
    http://www.apple.com/ipad/features/airprint.html
    If you do not own one of these printers, there are a number of third party apps that will allow you to print using your current printer. You may need to download a helper app on your computer and leave your computer turned on in order to use them.

  • How can I change my safari preferences to save a file rather than download

    How can I change my safari preferences to save a file rather than it downloading

    danieladorotiak wrote:
    When I click on the 'save application file, it download's it and doesn't give me the option to save it.
    I can't be sure, but what probably happens is that the page doesn't give you a link to a downloadable file, but a button which activates a script. There's nothing you can do about that, because you don't control the script.
    it just downloads the transcripts not the document.
    It sounds like the downloaded file does not open or execute as it's supposed to (which, for instance, would happen if what you downloaded was a Java application, but you didn't have Java installed).
    If you are allowed to, give us the URL and we'll have a look. Also, you should add what version of Mac OS X and of Safari you are using, and you should correct your profile (which says "Mac Pro" -- this forum is for the MacBook Pro, which is a different computer from the Mac Pro).

  • How do i change the safari settings on my new macbook pro to run in the 32 bit mode?

    how do i change my safari settings on my new mac book pro to run in 32 bit mode please?

    I am running Leopard OS in 64 bit mode. Everytime I want to run my Cisco VPN client I reboot it in 32 bit mode by holding the two keys (don't remember what two keys at the moment).  I am looking for another way to run my Cisco VPN.  I don't see the check box labeled "Open in 32-bit mode" .  The only thing I see is "Open in Rosetta" or something like that.  Is the check box "Open in 32-bit mode" only show in Lion X OS?

    Does it work? I hope the Safari developers with confirm.
    How to clear Cache in Safari

    Quit Safari.
    Click out on your desktop somewhere to get Finder menu on the top menu bar.  Then look over to the right, and select the "Go" menu while holding down the "Option"button.  You will then see an option for "Library" right under your home folder on that list.
    That is your hidden Users Library.  Open that Library, go down to Caches.  Open that, and then look for apple.com.Safari.  Take that file to the trash.
    Restart Safari.
    I tried it, I do not know what the consequences are yet

    It''s a bit drastic, but that clears Safari cache. There's another way of clearing the cache:
    1. Open Safari, go to Safari menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > Advanced, and tick "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
    2. Close Preferences, and go to Develop menu > Delete cache

  • Applescript to copy selected text plus page URL in Safari

    I do a lot of online research. I would like to be able to select text then run an applescript to add the selected text plus the page URL to the clipboard. I have found a couple scripts that come close to what I want to do, but they don't work. They get the URL and usually some other information, but instead of the slected text, I get "missing value". Does anyone know how I can make this work?
    The scripts I found that do kind of what I want, but don't work are:
    http://allancraig.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=113:saving-se lected-text-and-url-from-safari-to-a-file&catid=40:applescript&Itemid=91
    http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20080207080505152
    This script works, but it copies URL and page title rather than URL and selected text:
    https://gist.github.com/70565
    I would be so grateful for some help on this.

    After looking around a bit more –
    first here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/9643814#9643814
    then here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3197130?start=0&tstart=0
    – I was able to cobble together this script:
    tell application "Safari"
      activate
              set theURL to URL of front document
              set selectedText to (do JavaScript "(''+getSelection())" in document 1)
              set theDate to do shell script "date +'%d-%m-%Y'"
      set the clipboard to theURL & return & selectedText & return & theDate as string
    end tell
    which does the trick very nicely. (I added the date to make it easier to do my references in college assignments.) I used Automator to save it as a Service and assigned a a keyboard shortcut (option + c). I believe this will speed up my workflow tremendously.

  • How to see web history in my sons iphone from my iphone

    how to see web history in my sons iphone from my iphone

    I don't believe there is a way to see the browing history on his phone from your phone using Safari. You might want to look at some of the alternative browsers which are designed with more parental controls. McGruff gets mentioned alot. You can install one of those browsers and disable Safari in restrictions. It's possible that one of them might have a feature your looking for.
    You'd also want to disable downloading of any apps as your son could just download a different browser. And, for what it's worth, many apps have built in browsers.
    Best of luck.
