Launch Internet Explorer from PDF instead default browser chrome

Hi
I want to launch IE Browser from PDF links rather than any default browser like chrome etc.
Is there a specific way that PDF links can be create for above requirement?
Thanks

Not possible. URLs are delegated to the OS which does with them what it's
set up to do.
The link itself (and Acrobat/Reader in general) has no way of interfering
with that.

  • Launching Internet Explorer

    I am trying to launch internet explorer from a java program using -
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("c:\path for IE.exe")
    This works OK if I enter the correct path in the above statement as a string literal.
    However the program generates a html file that I wish to view with IE.
    So in my program code I have something like -
    String fileName = file.getName()
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec(fileName)
    Unfortuneately IE will not launch with this code - does anyone know why ?
    Regards
    Scott

    replace filename with ---> cmd.exe /c start iexplore
    filename <---in the runtime method call....I have tried this but no joy. I am unsure how to format the command in the runtime method call and this is probably why its not working.
    Do I need to do something like ("cmd.exe /c start iexplore" + fileName)

  • Internet Explorer 11 PDF Add-on?

    From Windows 8.1 64-bit, running IE11, we need to convert web pages open in browser to PDF. This is without a current Adobe Acrobat version installed, assuming user does not have standalone Acrobat software.
    Cannot find IE Gallery link anywhere in IE11 menu! Google and Bing are both IE11 grief floods. Chrome has half a dozen pdf conversion tools with a single click. IE Gallery only has an
    outdated 2009 msi extension for Acrobat, from Nitro. Nitro's Acrobat add-on is not compatible with IE11.
    This topic elicited only lame responses in answers.microsoft, so it is brought here for a more development savvy response.
    Kindly note that the missing PDF functionality may be related to much larger security (piracy?) concerns. Please share any PDF solutions for IE11 that you may find. Thank you, and TIA.

    Hi,
    For converting a webpage to PDF file, you may download and install the Acrobat.
    http://www.adobe.com/downloads.html?promoid=KAWQL
    As I known, Acrobat installs an Adobe PDF toolbar in Internet Explorer (version 7.0 or later). Using the commands on this toolbar, you can convert the currently displayed web page to PDF in various ways. For example, you can convert the entire web page or
    selected areas of it. Or, you can create a PDF or append the converted web page to an existing PDF. The toolbar has additional commands that initiate further actions after conversion, such as attaching the new PDF to a new email message or printing it.
    For your reference:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/acrobat/X/pro/using/WS58a04a822e3e50102bd615109794195ff-7f60.w.html
    Please understand that "Convert current web page to an Adobe PDF file" icon is not installed as Adobe Acrobat 8 and 9 do not support Internet Explorer 64 bit.
    You may revert to Internet Explorer 32-bit for a test.
    In order to revert to Internet Explorer 32-bit version close Internet Explorer 64-bit browser version and open Internet Explorer by launching it from the following default locations: the
    Quick Launch toolbar, the desktop shortcut, the icon on the Start menu, a hyperlink or a file type that is associated with Internet Explorer.
    Additional Information
    Under specific circumstances, the context menu with "Convert to Adobe PDF" displays in Internet Explorer bit, but when you select, it does not function.
    The context menu will only display if:
    You are running a Windows 64-bit operating system, with both Internet Explorer32-bit and Internet Explorer 64-bit present, and Adobe Acrobat is installed.
    You launch Internet Explorer 32-bit first which writes the registry entries for context menus from the Acrobat IE Favorite add-in, and then you launch Internet Explorer64-bit which finds
    the registry entries made from the Internet Explorer32-bit entries.

  • Launch Internet Explorer

    Hi,
    I have to launch MS Internet Explorer from my java application. I am using the following code:
    try{
         Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
         rt.exec("iexplore.exe www.yahoo.com");
    }catch(IOException ioe){
         System.out.println(ioe);
    }But its generating an exception as below:
    java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "iexplore.exe": CreateProcess error=2, The system cannot find the file specified.
    If I give the absolute path then it executes successfully.Like
    try{
         Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
         rt.exec("C:\\Program Files\\Internet Explorer\\iexplore.exe www.yahoo.com");
    }catch(IOException ioe){
         System.out.println(ioe);
    }Now the problem is that I can't give the absolute path because window may be installed on drive "D:\\". What I wanted is to get the "Program Files" path and then launch "IEXPLORE.EXE".
    Any solution.
    Thanks in anticipation.
    Regards,
    Ahmad Jalil Qarshi

    Try with
        String[] commands = {"cmd", "/c", "start", "iexplore.exe","-nohome", "www.yahoo.com"};
        Runtime.getRuntime().exec(commands);If using jdk1.6 then the Desktop class is the preferred way to start the default browser.
    See http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/awt/Desktop.html
    try {
       Desktop.browse(new URL("http://www.yahoo.com");
    catch (MalformedURLException e1) {
       e1.printStackTrace();
    catch (DesktopException e2) {

  • Cannot print documents after I downgraded internet explorer from version 8 back to 7.

    Hello, Due to internet problems, I recently changed my internet explorer from Beta version 8 back to version 7.  Everything on my PC seems to be working fine except for printing.  I cannot print to my HP officejet J5780 all in one.   When I try to print an error message shows up in the print queue and it says printer offline.  The printer was set as default but I wonder if something was modified in the print setup when I reverted back to an older version of Explorer.  If I try to deinstall/reinstall I get an error saying I could permanently damage the printer configuration.   Also if I try to check HP drivers and software on the HP website it says I need to  update but fails to download the necessary files.  Please advise.

    first thing to check is make sure  it is still a default printer
    and go to properties and check for the port and make
    sure it say what the port your printer that it is using
    like a pareled or usb or TCP\IP connections
    and if the TCP\IP check for the correct IP of the printer
    and you may want to set the printer to "static"
    this will keep it from changing IPs
    and you may have to uninstall and reinstall
    the printer
    download the file manually
    make sure you know where it is saved at
    for IE click save not run
    for Fire Fox but first go to the tool
    and click option and look in the main tab
    in the middle of the box click the circle
    "Always ask where to save the file"
    and make sure you know where you put
    the download at

  • Trouble launching Internet Explorer

    For the last week I haven't been able to launch Internet Explorer. I can get on the internet through Safari, so the problem is not with my internet connection. I've tried trashing the program and re-installing with no success.

    I don't know why I wandered onto this forum, I posted on the Tiger forum Geeting on line and Networking.

  • Problem in Opening HTML Page in Internet Explorer from my Swing Application

    Hi,
    I am opening a HTML file in Internet Explorer from my swing application.I am using the code given below
    private final static String WIN_FLAG = "url.dll,FileProtocolHandler";
    private final static String WIN_PATH = "rundll32";
    String cmd = WIN_PATH + " " + WIN_FLAG + " " + url;
    // url is HTML file Path
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec( cmd );
    Here there are two things i need to address ...
    1)The HTML file is opening up,but it always opens behind the swing application,that makes me every time to maximize the HTML file after it being opened up.I want to open it in front of the Swing Application.I need to implement "Always On Top" functionality for the html page.
    2)Whenever i trigger action to open different HTML page,it opens in new Internet Explorer window.
    I need to open it in same IE window.
    how to solve out these problems ??? any help would be greatly appreciated .Thanks in advance.

  • Launch Reader from PDF file in Google Chrome browser PDF viewer

    Hello!
    So I have a fillable PDF form which runs document level JavaScript to essentially render itself inactive (hides fields, etc.) if opened in anything other than Reader or Acrobat. This works great, especially in Google Chrome has known problems with submitting fillable PDF forms properly.
    Here is an example form: https://luxsci.com/forms/6296/2251/Qlg5/Medical_Center_Intake_Form.pdf
    Open in Chrome and it's unusable, there's a warning layer, and a JavaScript alert. Open in Reader or Acrobat and it renders fine and submit works great.
    When the file is downloaded in Chrome it's saved locally, i.e. Chrome displays the file URL as: file:///C:/Users/David/Downloads/Medical_Center_Intake_Form%20(3).pdf
    I am trying to make the process of opening the file from Chrome in reader as simple as possible for the end user. As such, I am wondering if there is a way to add a button which will launch Reader on the end-user's desktop/laptop and open this file?
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Thanks for your comments, but that isn't the issue. We provide form processing services and have developed an effective workaround via document level JS to render the form unusable and non-submittable (is that a word?!) if opened in anything other than Adobe Reader or Acrobat. The complaint we are trying to deal with is that non-tech savvy users can't figure out how to open the PDF in Reader when Chrome auto opens it for them in the built-in broken Chrome PDF viewer.
    While I could certainly provide instructions for how to install/enable the Adobe Reader plugin in Chrome, the point is to avoid requiring the non tech savvy end-user to do anything other than click a button to open the file in Reader. So asking them to install/configure the adobe PDF plugin in their browser is not a feasible solution. So what I want is this:
    -PDF opens in Chrome's built-in PDF viewer and user sees notice that they can't use the form in the current program.
    -User can click a button saying "Open this file in Adobe Reader"
    -Clicking the button launches the local computer's Reader application, and opens the file. The PDF is then rendered normally and can be filled out and submitted as normal.
    I don't really think it's possible because of browser security restrictions against launching executables, but since the browser is just showing an embedded locally downloaded PDF file, I thought maybe there's a way...
    Thanks!

  • Opening Internet Explorer from Air Iframe

    This probably has been answered here before and I apologize if this is a repost but I haven't been able to find an answer that works.
    I have an AIR application that uses an Iframe to connect to a server side page. within that page I need to be able to click a link and launch an Internet Explorer Browser NOT an Air window.
    I have tried several methods and none seems to work,
    does anyone have a sample (both the parent and child frames) that they know works ,
    It will save me allot of headache
    I truly appreciate it
    Ray

    Thanks but I would need the complete code.
    You see I want to open a particuler page from a link, the link will call, lets say homepage.jsp, I want to include an applet in homepage.jsp that will force the page to open up in a IE window. Is that possible????
    If it is what do I need to do?
    Thanks

  • Firefox either closes suddenly when I click on the address bar after startup or it hangs and also blocks internet explorer from loading

    On my Windows XP sp3 system the current the last two releases of Firefox both exhibit the same behavior. When I launch Firefox it will either shutdown within seconds with no crash reporter or other error logged or it will hang completely and indefinitely. When it hangs it also blocks internet explorer 8 from loading. I have tried and followed all the steps in the crashing FAQ including safe mode, uninstalls, re-installs, profile deletes (even the profile dialog closed suddenly). I use Norton Internet Security version 18.6.0.29. A full virus scan does not find any problems. I have disabled all toolbars, plugins and addons and the problem persists. Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Opera all work fine. Only occasionally does Firefox load and keep running. It's as if it is failing on some check at startup and either crashes or hangs most of the time.

  • Launching Air Help from PDF?

    Hello all,
    We have a AIR help application that is installed with our software. This help app has many bookmarks in it and our application can open it in a context sensitive way.
    We are considering creating a "quick start" guide as a .PDF  that, instead of being a reference is more of a "how to". However, it would be really nice if we could make links inside that .PDF to launch the AIR Help application in a similar way to our application.
    I'm not an expert at Acrobat or AIR, but rather the programmer who wrote the code to launch the help from our application (which is written in C++). Could somebody point me in the direction I need to look in order to launch our AIR Help from the .PDF? I see there's a way to add a javascript link, but all the JS code I've seen seemed pretty cumbersome if one were to attempt to add it to every single contextual link. And given that they are both Adobe products, I feel there must be a more built-in way to do this.
    Thanks for your time!
    Tim
