Lenovo spkrs work only when external spkrs plugged in

Arch runs great on noobies Lenovo 3000 n100.
Streaming audio and system sounds work fine only when external spkrs are plugged into headphone socket.
Onboard  spkrs can be heard along with external spkrs together. I have tried every combination of Gnome-volume-control sliders and mutes to hear onboard spkrs by themselves but no luck. It's not a big deal as the laptop is always on my desk but I'm just curious if it can be fixed as I am not experienced enough yet.
Thanks

Try plugging the headphones in and gently wiggling them around for a few seconds. It may be that the sensor that tells the iPhone that headphones are plugged in has gotten stuck. If this doesn't work, they try a reset (hold down Sleep/Wake and Home all the way until the Apple logo appears on the screen).

  • Restore works ONLY when external HDD connected?!

I had my laptop (MacBook A) sent away for repair, and in the meantime I used a temporarily purchased one (MacBook B) which I restored from Time Machine.
Now a month later, I received A back, and restored it from the last backup on B (last night). All seemed to work fine, until I tried using A unattached to the external HDD. When it is not connected, A turns back into the computer it was the day I sent it for repair, as if I did no restore from back-up at all... but when I connect it to the HDD again, it turns back into a clone of B as it should. I also hear the external HDD whirring when accessing certain programs, which makes me think it's accessing the restore directly from the HDD not the laptop. What did I do wrong?
Any help would be appreciated as I am leaving the country in 2 days for 3.5 weeks and need A to work properly!

Did you do a restore by booting from Leopard DVD and using the Restore in the menu?
If you look on the TM drive do you see one, two or three backup directories?

  • My HP Compaq powers on only when force i plug in. Doesn't turn on with power button!

I have a HP Compaq 6710b.. Its Over 6 yrs old..
The Issue is really annoying.. The laptop powers on only when i force plug in the charger pin and the laptop works fine after that..
But the laptop never turns on when i try to power on by pushing the power button!!
I couldn't understand the reason why...
Any thoughts about this issue?  HELP!!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

There are no settings in the BIOS that affect the use of the power button.
The power button works at the hardware (firmware) level.
Pressing the button is  translated into action for the system board by logic conditions.  There must be voltage at specific points in the power circuit. If the voltages are not present, then the power button will not operate. This could be caused by a failed resistor, mlcc capacitor or a faulty solder joint, if the power button has been tested and shown to be working normally. Even lint could cause this to happen. This can troubleshot by visual inspection and use of a multimeter.
    Hi all,
This may be a solution for others but unfortunately not me..
My whole Power Circuit has been replaced with brand new circuit by authorised service personal in my country (will not HP, but he is an authorised service dealer of HP)..  It was replaced/repaired a year ago and after that i hardly would have used the power button..  I also use the sleep mode and mouse to wake up.. (would have used power button not more than 20 times in one year. And especially during update shutdowns)..
So its better i will check with BIOS/CMOS setting and battery and get back soon..  Why i am mentioning this is because, for the past 8 months, when even i remove the battery and put back in and start up the lappy, the date goes back to 1980..  I guess this happens because of faulty/dead CMOS battery..  Because i had a similar problem with my Desktop too and when i replaced the CMOS battery, the date problem on my desktop vanished..  (Surprisingly, even some Digital cameras hav this issue too!!)..

  • Why is Fault Policy working only when the BPEL's transaction is requiresNew

    Hi All
I've defined Fault policy & fault bindings files for faults in my BPEL process. I'm using Oracle SOA Suite 11g.
But the fault management framework is properly working only when the transaction property(bpel.config.transaction) of the BPEL is set to "requiresNew" in composite.xml
When i modify it ot required, its not working, i.e. it is waiting for some period and erroring out. I could not manage these errors from the EM as we do for those in Fault Management Framework.
    Why is this behavior?
I went thru this article, but could not understand it
Transaction and Fault Propagation Semantics in BPEL Processes(http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/integration.1111/e10224/soa_transactions.htm)
    Can someone pls explain this.

  • Does the NavigationController work only when placed in appDelegate?

I am trying to build application that has a tab bar controller with two view and the first view contains a segmented control.
Based on the decision of the segmented control, I load the tableview. The table view has an instance of navigation Controller in which I have assigned the tableview controller as a rootview controller. When I click on any row of the table view, a new controller gets pushed on the table view. In my case, the new view does not show up on the screen, once the row is clicked. I used NSlog and checked that the views pushed on the stack are correct.
I read many threads here and saw that all of them use tabBarController and then it directly uses the navigationController and viewcontroller. Is this the only config that works ?
What if I want to have a tabBarController->tableViewController->NavigationController, isn't it possible? Can anyone please help?

    WitchKing wrote:
So, if I understand this fully, I can initialize the navigation controller as soon as the any row is clicked and put the tableView I am on as my rootView for the navController. and also push the next view controller I want to see, on its stack. and present the navigation controller's view.
The usual way to implement a table view drill-down would be to make the first table view (or the content view which includes it) the root view of the nav controller. I.e. the table view's controller would be the root controller. When you do it that way all the objects will do what they were designed to do, and the code to push and pop subsequent views will almost write itself.
However there's no reason you can't do what you described, which (if I understood) would be to attach the nav controller's view to the hierarchy only after a row in the table is selected. Note however, that you couldn't then expect the nav controller to make that first transition from the parent table view. You would have to provide your own transition to the nav controller's view.
You bring up a good point in any case. I never explicitly answered the question in the Subject line of this thread.
does the NavigationController work only when placed in appDelegate?
No, there is no requirement to create a nav controller in any particular position of the view hierarchy. Unlike a tab controller, a nav controller need not be the root of the hierarchy (i.e. added directly to the key window). In fact you'll find several examples in the docs which show one or more nav controllers under some other controller.
there might be some problem with adjusting bar heights and etc though.
I'm not sure you proposed anything that would make it difficult to configure a table view. One nav controller issue that will impact table view position and size is the attempt to hide the nav bar which would otherwise appear above the table. I walked, unsuspecting, into this problem when I tried to help with another, currently ongoing thread that might interest you: [http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9606805#9606805].
While I'm pasting links, this one is also relevant to your post: [http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9607946#9607946].
Thank you for the very kind words about my posts. For some reason, this past few weeks I've been spending most of my forum helper time writing about table views and nav controllers. I sure hope I've been dispensing correct information. It's not like I have any knowlege of the internals. These puppies are black boxes to me, so I'm just going by the same docs you have and my own (growing!) collection of test beds.

  • Web ADI works only when cache is cleared

I have created a custom integrator and the web ADI component works only when I clear the cache from the functional administrator responsibility in Oracle Apps. The component has a lot of validations for the fields and is expected to insert upto 2000 lines, It works fines for a small number of lines but the web ADI hangs for a large number of lines (>500). But if I clear the cache, it works fine. Anyone has a solution for this, cause I cant clear the cache always and I cant tell my customer to do the same.
    G. Arun
    Oracle SSI

The WebADI caching can be very confusing. I made a little summary of what you can do to avoid caching problems like:
"ORA-06508: PL/SQL: Could not Find Program Unit being Called in Custom Web ADI" or
"SQL exception occurred during PL/SQL upload"
    A) clear cache with http://<machine>:<port>/OA_HTML/BneAdminServlet
    B) clear IE cache & restart
    C) clear the cache from the functional administrator responsibility
    D) Bounce the Apache server
    E) SQL command: Alter system flush shared_pool
    F) Download another WebADI spreadsheet (but you can re-use your old spreadsheet)
    G) log out and log back in EBS
    H) login at another computer and try it there
...or sometimes just wait for a while till it works again.

  • HT201401 Hi.. My Iphone acts as if it is dead. Tried a lot with Sleep +home buttons as well, but did not worked. When it is plugged in, keeps on charging with a regular beep. Please advise.

Hi.. My Iphone acts as if it is dead. Tried a lot with Sleep +home buttons as well, but did not worked. When it is plugged in, keeps on charging with a regular beep. Please advise.

Yes, I understand that. But The screen issue is not a result of user damage. The phone was not dropped when the screen got cracked. My daughter was standing in a chair at the table and dropped one of her toys onto the bottom of the phone and cracked it right by the home button. (Nowhere near the LCD/digitizer flex cables, connections, or logic board components) then a few months later my phone had died, I plugged it in, it showed it was charging, then Apple logo disappeared and screen didn't work. AFTER contacting Apple about the issue and them telling me that it "is a result of the very minimal crack to the sheet of glass that has no relation to the LCD or Digitizer and that the warranty does not cover it I had taken it upon myself to change the LCD/digitizer to no avail, as well as backlight ic and backlight coil to no avail. But how do I go about letting Apple know that it is in fact NOT due to the cracked screen nor is it due to the flex cable connections? I can't. So the lady that works the call center phones  trying to "convince" me that she knows what she is talking about and "convince" me that it is from the cracked screen I have to take her word because I can't show Apple that its not because of that without paying them $199 to fix the screen in which case they will just send me a new phone rather than fix the faulty hardware under warranty.

  • Foreing keys works only when created as CAPITAL?

    Hello,
When working with HTML DB tutorial, I have noticed that foreign keys works only when I do create them as CAPITAL. I did create some foreign keys manually, and when I was trying "query by example" it did not work correctly unles I did re-create the foreign keys using all captials in their name. Why is it that?
    Thank you,
    DanielD

I let it dry out more and it started working. It still has a quirk or two but I can live with it.

  • HT201401 Microphone works only when using the phone in hands-free

Microphone works only when using the phone in hands-free (speaker on) mode.  Otherwise, only a constant buzz, accompanied by regular clicks (repeating 2-3 times/sec) can be heard by called persons or when recording a memo.  Makes Siri unusable, and cannot make private calls unless in a private area.  Does anybody have a fix for this?

Okay I just solved the problem myself..
For anyone that may have the same issue:
The microphone used when recording video, is the little dot next to the jack on top of the iPhone 4S (maybe also iPhone 4, don't know). There was some dirt in this tiny little hole, and I simply just removed it with a very thin needle, and now it works great!

  • My touch pad does not work only when using Safari browser. The screen was grey. Help!

My touch pad does not work only when I use Safari browser online. The screen was grey. No matter what I do, there is no reponse. Only the web address box works. What is this problem? I can use App Store and everything else fine.
    Someone please help.
    Thanks

    I would try:
    - Resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Settings>Safari and delete cache, history and cookies.

  • Strange issue with external monitor, only working when external speakers plugged in (using Thunderbolt to VGA adaptor)

Hey – I am having a very strange issue with my external monitor; where it only works if my external speakers are plugged in and connected.
I am using a late 2011 Macbook pro, running Mavericks 10.9.4, along with an MBox 2 (USB Audio Interface), and two powered speakers (KRK Rokit 5). This setup has had no issues. I have just acquired an external monitor (Benq T2200HD), which I am using with a thunderbolt to VGA adaptor (a cheap Chinese knockoff adaptor).
To start - I plugged the monitor in with the thunderbolt adaptor, and it powers up and works fine. However, there is a nasty buzz coming from the speakers. I did some research and it looks like a simple ground loop issue. I did a bit of troubleshooting, and this is where things get weird.
What I found is - If I unplug the MBox, the monitor loses signal from the computer (displaying ‘No Signal Detected!’). Further, if I keep the MBox plugged in, however unplug both the cables from the MBox to the speakers, the monitor loses signal. It doesn’t matter if the speakers are turned off, however they need to be plugged in (or the monitor loses signal). Weirder still, I can unplug the MBox, however the monitor will work if I plug in the speakers through my macs headphone jack.
Simply put, the monitor only works if there is a direct connection between the computer, the speakers, and the power source.  What is going on here? Is the monitor grounding through the computer port, to the speakers (I don’t know how this works, is this possible?). Could it somehow be the cheap VGA adaptor I am using?
    Some other information:
    - Everything is plugged into the same multi-box for power. I have tried plugging things into separate sources, and the result is the same.
    - If I unplug the thunderbolt adaptor, then the speaker noise disappears straight away.
    - The ground noise doesn’t appear in my headphones, which are plugged into the MBox.
Any information would be great – am I missing something here, or is this genuinely weird?

Well, I went back into Best Buy to test on 3 other laptops (2 Asus, and their floor model for this Sony). It seems to be doing the same problem so at least I was able to rule out broken hardware issue on my particular laptop.
Here's what I did to test:
Since I couldn't really install Adobe Premiere on their machines, I used the DVIO software (http://www.carr-engineering.com/dvio.htm) and a 5 min clip I captured.  I transferred onto their machines, hooked up my Sony D8, and attempted to play the video.  It would play for 15 seconds and then stop and jitter with a loud noise (like it does on my laptop).  I even tried changing each machine's firewire driver to the legacy one and same results.  I pulled a brand new 4 pin to 4 pin firewire cable off their shelf and still the same problem.
I think I've nailed it down to Win7x64 bit Home Edition not playing nice with Firewire driver.  Very annoying.  I can't find any concrete evidence of this from other users on any of the forums that have my particular problem, but from my own testing, it's all I can conclude.
I have 2 other things I can try:
    1.  Opening the laptop and looking at the firewire to maybe find appropriate driver (ugh, I don't want to have to open this thing up).
    2.  Upgrading to Win7x64bit Pro and possibly testing with XP on the new MS Virtual PC (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/).  I can't do it with my Home edition apparantly.
Who needs to view video on an external TV anyways....sheeesh...(scarcasm).

  • PB Works ONLY When Plugged In?  Battery Seems Dead?  READ THIS!!!!!

I just saved several hundred $$$$, thanks to another Apple customer who had posted this tip somewhere Discussions.
My Powerbook suddenly crashed a couple of days ago, due do a faulty Apple Firewire cable. It would not immediately start, and my first thought was that the logic board was fried. Remembering that I should try to set the PRAM and then possibly the PMU, but forgetting what keys to press, I frantically searched for my users manual. 15 minutes later, I found it, I followed the instructions, and my PB successfully booted. My troubles were far from over. I soon realized that the battery now appeared to be completely drained. The PB would only work with the power cable plugged in, despite the battery showing 98% charged. When the cable was removed or wiggled, the computer would promptly shut down. I reset the PRAM and PMU several times, reset permissions, cleaned caches, checked preference files and other regular maintenance procedures.... No improvement. I then ran the hardware test that's on my original PB software disk. Everything, including the logic board, tested fine. I then used TechTool Deluxe, and everything tested OK as well. I reset the PRAM, PMU again, but the Powerbook still would not operate on battery power only.
Yesterday, somewhere on this discussion board, I read this tip:
With the battery still in, start up the computer, log in if necessary, and get to your desktop. Close the lid so the PB goes to sleep and walk away. Don't touch it for at least 3 hours. Open the lid so it wakes from sleep, then unplug the power cord.
IT WORKED! I was completely shocked.
I've been using my Powerbook on battery power for more than an hour. The menu bar shows the current battery charge as 40%. I thought it may be a good idea to recalibrate the battery, so I'm letting the battery drain completely.
I'd like to thank the kind person who posted this suggestion. You saved me a few hundred bucks, and I appreciate it.
    PowerBook G4 17   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1 G RAM, a HUGE sigh of relief

Power Issues Galore!! I purchased (against my better judgement) an overpriced Powerbook G4 in March 2005 (when Apple claimed that the G4 processor was "faster than Intel", which is the exactly the opposite of what they claim now that they use Intel) and alas, recently purchased an iMac for same college student who is quite the Apple fan, and basically required to have Apple products due to college policies and curriculum. The Powerbook power supply has been a constant problem, which we temporarily resolved by purchasing 3rd party products. Now the plug on the unit itself is loose! Could have bought 4 PC laptops for purchase price of the Powerbook! Time will tell about the iMac.
My opinion, based on personal experiences, is that Apple fans are delusional about the quality of Apple products. Given this, since I have spent a lot of money purchasing Apples, I guess I am a little confused myself!!
