This is KOJACK, java developer.
I have some problem in using VM in j2sdk-1_4_0-linux-i386-rpm.bin or j2sdk-1_3_1_03-linux-i386.bin) on RedHat 7.1.
When I try to install a weblogic server from BEA. i see the error as follows:

Thank you for your response!
Actually, i think it does have nothing to do with a web logic server.
The error had happened before i tried to install the server, which means JDK is likely to conflict with RedHat 7.1.( no problem on RedHat 6.1)

  • JRockit Installation fails on Redhat ES 4

    Hello there,
I'm trying to install JRockit 1.4.2_05 on a Redhat ES4 system. I'm aware that this is a very new distribution, based on Fedora Core 3 which I see someone else has had problems with from a previous post.
How can I tell the difference between an 8.1 SP5 and 8.1 SP4 release? I assume it's the _05 tag.
I've seen a posting suggesting disabling the prelink facility, but is there a way to do that before the product is installed.
    Many thanks, Will Hargrove

The two cases I know about where running on RHES4 should be problematic are:
    1. You have prelink enabled.
    2. You are running a 64 bit RHES4 on AMD64. There are a couple of
kernel bugs that makes JRockit crash and burn on this configuration, of
which the known and identified ones are:

Prelink is not a JRockit feature, it's a feature of the OS so it should be
    disabled before installing JRockit.
There is no 8.1SP5 release of JRockit available. 8.1SP4 and J2SE 1.4.2_05
is the same release. There is also a J2SE 5.0 release.

  • Error starting java in RedHat Enterprise ES v3

Hello all. I'm posting hoping someone has run into this before and might be able to help me.
We've set up a number of boxes with Redhat Enterprise ES v3, and upgraded the kernel from the stock RedHat 2.4.21 to 2.4.26 because we required reiserfs support (no idea why it isn't bundled from RedHat).
    We are using j2sdk1.4.2_02.
Once the kernel was upgraded, I tried to run java and we get a strange error. Java runs fine with the stock kernel, but not with the new one.
At this point in time, I'm inclined to think I neglected to enable an option in the kernel configuration, but I went back and wasn't able to find anything.
Any idea what could be causing this issue? The complete error is below.
    Thank you in advance

    Hi ditg.
I have no idea what was causing the problem on 2.4.26, but at this point in time, I'm almost 100% sure it's a kernel-specific issue.
The workaround I came up with was rebuild the 2.4.21 kernel using the RedHat sources, disabling all the non-necessary modules and basically make it as slim as possible.
Once we successfully recompiled 2.4.21, j2sdk1.4.2.02/3/4 runs fine.
    Hope this helps....

  • JRE 1.4.0_01 install with Redhat 7.3

After installation of the rpm-package I tried
    ./java -version
    and the systems claims that:
Error: failed /usr/java/j2re1.4.0_01/lib/i386/client/libjvm.so, because libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Does that mean, that libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2 is not installed, or just that he can't find it?
(used Redhat installation with option Software-Development, without Kernel-Development).
    Best regards
    F.

I found out, that libstdc++....rpm is already installed on my system
and there is seemingly no bugfix from Readhat for 7.3 concerning glibc -
so it's a promblem with PATHs maybe?

I've had the same problem. I created a softlink to cut in /usr/bin and it still
wouldn't work. The install starts and dies with no message or anything. It just
looks as if it'll run forever, but the process is defunct. Has anyone sucessfully
    installed on RedHat 7.1?

  • Gdb gets SIGSEGV from JVM in JDK 1.3.1_01 on RedHat Linux 6.2

    Hi all,
I'd love to know if anyone has a fix for this problem? I am also posting it as a bug.
    Thanks in advance!
    OVERVIEW:
When running Tomcat 4.0 via the Java launcher in a gdb debugging session (Red Hat Linux 6.2), I get a SIGSEGV signal (Segmentation fault) when I execute some of the example JSPs/servlets. Since Tomcat is pure Java, I'm assuming the problem is most likely with the JVM and the way it handles signals, or possibly with gdb since I only see this behavior with gdb. The problem is fairly reproducible; I usually get it when I execute the "ErrorPage" JSP sample in Tomcat's "examples" webapp.
Note that I don't see these signals when running the JVM standalone (outside of gdb). What's also weird is that I successfully tell gdb to "continue" after the segfault, and the app continues to work like nothing ever happend.
As an aside, the reason why I did this test was because I was experiencing very similar problems in my own application that embeds a JVM via JNI.
    DESCRIPTION:
Here is what I did to see the problem.
First, I set the debugger in the environment, so that the jdk/bin/java script can run the java launcher in gdb:
    export DEBUG_PROG=gdb
Next, I run the jdk/bin/java script:
    cd jdk1.3.1_01/bin
    java
This brings up the Java launcher within gdb, and I run it as I specify the necessary arguments to startup Tomcat:

I even tried building a debug version of the java launcher by hand in hope of finding a more detailed stack trace, but all I got was the following:

As a reference, I built the Java launcher code included in the JDK 1.3.1_01 distribution, producing the replacement binary for:
    jdk1.3.1_01/bin/i386/native_threads/java
I copied the source files out of the jdk1.3.1_01/src/src/launcher/ directory, and they consist of the following files:
    java.c
    java.h
    java_md.c
    java_md.h
My build directory also contains the jdk1.3.1_01 subdirectory to include the JNI headers from and as a sample jdk to test the build output with.
The following are my build commands (mainly borrowed from the JDK build process):
    cc -g -W -Wall -Werror -Wno-unused -Wno-parentheses -Di386 -DARCH='"i386"' -DSOLARIS2 -DRELEASE='"1.3.1-testing-110101"' -DFULL_VERSION='"1.3.1-testing-110101"' -D_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE -D_GNU_SOURCE -D_REENTRANT -D_LITTLE_ENDIAN -DUSE_APPHOME -DPROGNAME='"java"' -I./jdk1.3.1_01/include -I./jdk1.3.1_01/include/linux -c -o build/objs/java.o java.c

Also experiencing SIGSEGV with tomcat 4.0 on AIX. Runs for months. Then out of the blue, crashes.
I wonder if setting reloadable=false in .../conf/server.xml could be the culprit ?
Or the servlet writing to a local file using a BufferedOutputStream ?

  • SDK install problems on Redhat 7.1

    Hi
I'm having problems getting the SDK to work on Redhat 7.1.
My path variable is set up corectly, and get the following errors when I do a java -version
java: /usr/bin/cut: No such file or directory
usr/lib/jdk1.3.0_02/bin/i386/native_threads/java: error loading shared libraries: libjvm.so :cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory
I've tried the following: copying libjvm.so to my /usr/lib directory and creating a "cut" file under /usr/bin. That took care of the error msgs, but now I get a core dump.
Does anybody know why this is happening?? I running the same SDK on SuSE without any problems.
    Please help!!

Lots of people talk about this problem with RedHat 7.1
I know this sounds crazy but you could download jBuilder from borland and get a Sun jdk that works.
    That's what I did.
I can't figure out what's up with the Sun download but look at the permissions.
    For the second guy
If the file had a .bin on the end of it it's a bash script that the permission is screwed up on I bet ??
You might want to move the file off the system and put it back as user. Don't know, seems like if you change the permission as root or run as root you might end up with an unusable jdk (permissions all screwed up) ???

  • JNI & RedHat WS 3.0. How is it possible?

    Hello guys,
I'm trying to migrate our product to JDK1.5 and RedHat 3.0 x86. Our app is native C++ application and it calls JVM via JNI and uses stdc++ library.
On Fedora Core 3(x86) , RedHat 3.0(x86_64) and RedHat 4.0(x86) everything works without problems but RedHat 3.0(x86) causes termination. (Core dump inside VM)
Probably there is incompatibility in libs. Are there any suggestions?
libjvm.so is built statically. What version of gcc and libstdc++ does it use?

    Huh?
We are all ipod users just like you.
If the ipod is defective and is within the warranty period, then Apple will replace it.
If it is damaged, then it is not covered.
You can likely pay the repair price and get a  replacement.

  • Jrockit-j2sdk1.4.2_05-linux-ia32 on RedHat 9 install fails

    Hi Robert/Steffan,
I read the thread re: Null pointer exception in native code.
It seems I have the same issue. I can't install the latest jrockit on
RedHat 9. Are these issues the same? Is there a fix coming? I don't know
what 'prelink' is and 'man prelink' produces nothing...

    Hi Allen,
Well, RH9 is not a supported platform and has therefore received very
limited or no testing whatsoever, but JRockit should not crash on it...
To begin with, you can try a manual installation by doing a manual
    $unzip <jrockit-installer>.bin
    $unzip <jrockit-payload>.zip
to get the files and copy/move them wherever you want them installed.
You can also try different releases of JRockit, such as 1.4.2_04 or the
new 1.5.0 release if they work better.
The dump indicates that there might be a problem with glibc on your
machine. This problem has been observed to be triggered by the installation
and activation of the 'prelink' feature on some distros but can also be
    caused
by other things such as an too old version of glibc.
The closest info I can find on supported versions of the kernel and glibc
    that
might match RH9 is for JRockit 1.4.2_05 on RHEL3.0-i686 which has
been verified with QU3 with kernel-2.4.21-20 and glibc-2.3.2-95.27.
Regarding prelink, you can check whether prelink is installed by
"rpm -qa | grep prelink", and if it is installed also check the top of
/etc/sysconfig/prelink to see if it is actually enabled or not.

    Hi Robert/Steffan,
I read the thread re: Null pointer exception in native code.
It seems I have the same issue. I can't install the latest jrockit on
RedHat 9. Are these issues the same? Is there a fix coming? I don't know
what 'prelink' is and 'man prelink' produces nothing...
    TIA,

====>> First, I don't understand why it tries to connect to "localhost" even I defined the host as "sapserver1"

Hope this will help resolve my problem.
    Thanks and Regards

    Markus,
I have also another hint from SELinux.
When I change the SELinux parametr from Enforced to Permissive, and I run the SAPinst program, the SELinux pops up the following alert:
    Summary:
SELinux is preventing java from loading
    /tmp/sapinst_exe.6387.1318347447/jre/lib/i386/server/libjvm.so which requires
    text relocation.
    Detailed Description:
[SELinux is in permissive mode, the operation would have been denied but was
    permitted due to permissive mode.]
The java application attempted to load
    /tmp/sapinst_exe.6387.1318347447/jre/lib/i386/server/libjvm.so which requires
text relocation. This is a potential security problem. Most libraries do not
need this permission. Libraries are sometimes coded incorrectly and request this
permission. The SELinux Memory Protection Tests
(http://people.redhat.com/drepper/selinux-mem.html) web page explains how to
remove this requirement. You can configure SELinux temporarily to allow
    /tmp/sapinst_exe.6387.1318347447/jre/lib/i386/server/libjvm.so to use relocation
as a workaround, until the library is fixed. Please file a bug report
    (http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/enter_bug.cgi) against this package.
    Allowing Access:
    If you trust /tmp/sapinst_exe.6387.1318347447/jre/lib/i386/server/libjvm.so to
run correctly, you can change the file context to textrel_shlib_t. "chcon -t
    textrel_shlib_t
    '/tmp/sapinst_exe.6387.1318347447/jre/lib/i386/server/libjvm.so'" You must also
change the default file context files on the system in order to preserve them
even on a full relabel. "semanage fcontext -a -t textrel_shlib_t
    '/tmp/sapinst_exe.6387.1318347447/jre/lib/i386/server/libjvm.so'"
The following command will allow this access:
    chcon -t textrel_shlib_t '/tmp/sapinst_exe.6387.1318347447/jre/lib/i386/server/libjvm.so'

  • HELP! Can not install Oracle 8.1.5 w/ RedHat 6.1!

I can not get Oracle 8.1.5 to install onto Linux RedHat 6.1. The
Oracle installation script generates several errors. I have
tried several attempts, using different options, but they all
    generate errors.
Please help. The Oracle Installation scripts appear to be very
buggy... or perhaps they are incompatible with the standard
RedHat 6.1 release. Either way, it is very frustrating.
I have documented one of my (failed) installation attempts below.
Does anyone have any words of wisdom?
I am installing Oracle onto a Dell Latitude CPi PC w/ 128MB RAM,
a 366MHz Pentium II, and RedHat 6.1 (using the standard Linux
2.2.12-2 kernel). RedHat was installed using the standard "Gnome
    Workstation" configuration.
    The Oralce CD is labeled:
    "Oralce 8i Enterprise Edition
    Release 8.1.5
    for Linux
    (c) Oracle Corporation 1999"
I got this CD about one week ago at Oracle OpenWorld '99 in Los
Angeles... it should be their "latest & greatest" version so far.
    1. Pre-Installation and ./runInstall
I created an "oracle" Unix account w/ groups "oinstall" (the
primary group) and "dba" (a secondary group).
I created directories /u01 through /u04, belonging to oracle.
I setup .cshrc and sourced it, containing:
    umask 022
    setenv DISPLAY `hostname`:0
    xhost +
    setenv ORACLE_BASE /u01/app/oracle
    setenv ORACLE_HOME ${ORACLE_BASE}/product/8.1.5
    setenv ORACLE_SID cprtest
    setenv PATH ${ORACLE_HOME}/bin:${PATH}
    setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH ${ORACLE_HOME}/lib
    setenv NLS_LANG US7ASCII
    I downloaded jre116_v5 and installed to /usr/local/jre.
Finally, I executed (from the "oracle" Unix account):
    cd /mnt/cdrom
    ./runInstall
Problem: I got the error (from ./runInstall):
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /usr/local/jre/bin/jre.
    Please wait...
    Error in CreateOUIProcess(): -1
    : Bad address
Workaround: Executed the following commands instead:
    cd /mnt/cdrom/install/linux
    ./runIns.sh
    3. runIns.sh and root.sh
I selected the following options (from ./runIns.sh):
    Source: /mnt/cdrom/stage/products.jar
    Destination: /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5
    Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition 8.1.5.0.0
    Typical (585MB)
Installable Components: Oralce Intelligent Agent 8.1.5.0.0
    Global Database Name: cprtest.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest
    Directory for Database Files: /u02
Then (when instructed by ./runIns.sh), I attempted to execute
    (from the
    "root" Unix account):
    cd /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5
    ./root.sh
    Problem: I got the error:
    "bash: ./root.sh: Permission denied"
The execute bit was not set.
    Workaround: I executed:
    chmod a+x root.sh
    ./root.sh
    5. Configuration Tools
The Oracle Installer (./runIns.sh) attempted to execute:
    A. Net8 Configuration Agent
    B. Oracle Database Configuration Agent
Problem: The "Oracle Database Configuration Agent" failed with
    the following error message:
"One or more tools have failed. It is recommended but not
required that these tools succeed for this installation.
You can now select these tools, read its details to examine
why they have failed, fix those problems, and retry them.
Or, you can click "Next" to continue."
When I selected the "Oracle Database Configuration Agent" for
more info, I got the following additional details (as the cause
    of the error):
"A required command line argument is missing."
    The log file
    "/u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/logs/installActions.log" recorded:
"Command which is being spawned is /usr/local/jre/bin/jre
    -Duser.dir=/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/assistants/dbca/jlib
    -classpath

    /gdbName cprtest.parkrussell.com
Invalid Exit Code. The following result code will be used for
    configuration tool: 1
Configuration tool Oracle Database Configuration Assistant
    failed"
Workaround: There is obviously nothing I can do to fix this
problem. It appears to be an internal bug in ./runIns.sh.
Therefore, I selected "Next" and executed "dbassist" directly.
    6. dbassist
    I executed:
    dbassist
Problem: I got the following error:
    "JNLS Execution:oracle.ntpg.jnls.JNLSException
Unable to find any National Character Sets. Please
    check your Oracle installation."
Workaround: Press "OK" and ignore the error.
    7. dbassist (cont.)
    I selected the following options:
    Create database
    Typical
Copy existing database files from the CD
    Global Database Name: cprtest.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest
Problem: I got the following error:
"CD-ROM drive not detected on this system.
    Database not created."
(Note: I've been running the installation scripts from the
CDROM drive this entire time. "df" shows the CDROM drive
mounted on /mnt/cdrom. "ls /mnt/cdrom" works too.)
Workaround: Abort (which generated the additional error: "Unable
to create database. DBCA-00003: No CD-ROM drive detected.") and
run dbassist again, this time using different parameters.
    8. dbassist, again
I executed "dbassist" again and selected the following options:
    Create database
    Typical
    Create new database files
    Hybrid
    Concurrently connected users: 5
Options: Oralce interMedia, Oralce JServer, and iM demos
    Global Database Name: cprtest2.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest2
    Create database now
Problem: I got the following error:
    "ORA-01012: not logged on"
    Workaround: Try, try again.
    9. dbassist, one last time
Executed "dbassist" once more and selected the following options:
    Create database
    Typical
    Create new database files
    Hybrid
    Concurrently connected users: 5
Options: Oralce interMedia, Oralce JServer, and interMedia
    demos
    Global Database Name: cprtest3.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest3
    Output creation script
Then, I executed (from the "oracle" Unix account):
    cd /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/install
    setenv ORACLE_SID cprtest3
    ./sqlcprtest3.sh
Problem: I got the following output:
"Oracle Server Manager Release 3.1.5.0.0 - Production
    (c) Copyright 1997, Oracle Corporation. All Rights Reserved.
    Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.5.0.0 - Production

    8> 9> CREATE DATABASE "cprtest3"
    ORA-01012: not logged on
    SVRMGR> Disconnected."
    Workaround: Beats me.
    10. sqlplus
I attempted to execute sqlplus, but got the following error
    message:
    "/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/bin/sqlplus: Permission denied."
The execute bit was not set.
    Workaround: I executed:
    chmod a+x /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/bin/sqlplus
    sqlplus
I gave up for now... there were just too many things wrong with
this installation, starting with the very first command I was
    supposed to execute (./runInstaller).
I can't fathom why Oracle's installation script has so many bugs.
Am I just doing something terribly wrong?
    Please help.

I'm using enlightenment version 0.15.5-41, which is more recent
than the 0.15.5-37 version (containing the Oracle installer
patch) that you recommended. Unfortunately, it fails when using
    this version.
I also tried installing Oracle using twm, with enlightenment
    disabled. This didn't help either.
Furthermore, the errors that I'm encountering in the OUI are
not just toward the end of the installation. They happen from
the very beginning, right after I enter "./runInstall", and
continue every step of the way.

  • Install Solution Manager in RedHat Enterprise 6 with Oracle 11

    Hello ,
In the marketplace-PAM,  RedHat Enterprise 6 is not listed as approved for EHP1 Solution Manager 7.0 64 bit (unicode) with Oracle.
Does anyone have any information on this subject?
Has anyone installed the Solution Manager 7.0/Oracle with RedHat Enterprise 6?
    tks

Yes, you are correct. Apart from PAM, following Note confirms this. RHEL 6 is not supported yet for Oracle, is in planning stage.
Note 1565179 - SAP software and Oracle Linux

  • Can not install Oracle on Redhat 7.3

    I have installed Redhat 7.3 . I tried to install Oracle 8i Release 2 (8.1.6).
But when I try to run runInstaller, nothing runs, Applet(JRE) does not open.
    what is the problem?
I have successfully installed this Oracle 8.1.6 on Redhat 6.2

    Hi there;
Here is what I have done to install Oracle8i 8.1.7 on Redhat7.3:
    Things you need to download:
    JAVA:
    Get the JDK - jdk118_v3-glibc-2.1.3.tar.bz2
    Get the JRE - jre118_v3-glibc-2.1.3.tar.bz2
    use bzip2 OR tar:
    tar -xvjf jdk-1.1.8_v3.tar.bz2 -C /usr/local
    as well for jre118
    Symbolically link them:
    ln -s /usr/local/jdk118_v3/bin/java /bin/java
    ln -s /usr/local/jre118_v3/bin/jre /bin/jre
    ln -s /usr/local/jdk118_v3 /usr/local/java
    ln -s /usr/local/jre118_v3 /usr/local/jre
    After you: tar -xvf /tmp/linux81701.tar
    chmod 777 Disk1
    cd Disk1
    chmod 777 runinstaller
Now you should be able to run the <runInstaller>
when you receive this error close to end just click on ignor:
Error in invoking target relink of makefile /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7/precomp/lib/ins_ctx.mk" Or something similar
The below operations should be performed logged in as root.
changes must be done on the root.sh script:
    line 102 Read:
    RMF=/bin/rm -f
    changed it to: RMF=`/bin/rm -f`
    line 156
    RUID=`/usr/bin/id|$AWK -F\( '{print $2}'|$AWK -F\) '{print $1}`
    change it to:
    RUID=`/usr/bin/id|$AWK -F\( '{print $2}'|$AWK -F\) '{print $1}'`
    Execute the script root.sh.
Ignore the errors about not being able to delete the files.
After you finish with: Net8 Configuration Assistant:
The below operations should all be performed logged in as oracle.
    cd $ORACLE_HOME<In my machine is:cd product/8.1.7>
    tar -xvzf /tmp/glibc-2.1.3-stubs.tar.gz
    ./setup_stubs
    Then exit from: $ORACLE_HOME
and edit .bash_profile OR .bashrc whichever you modified in preinstall
add the following line: export ORACLE_SID=<whatever you named it during install>
My machine read as this: export ORACLE_SID=oral
At this point I strongly suggest you logg out from Oracle Account and re-log again
    Then edit this file: /etc/oratab
    and change: *:/home/oracle/product/8.1.7:N To *:/home/oracle/product/8.1.7:Y
Now you can use dbstart and dbshut scripts from the command mode to start and stop the database.
most likely when you try to start the database for the first time you will receive
the error: ORA-01081<you can't star database is already startet>
Then go to svrmgrl and connect internal and type: shutdown Abort
re-start your Database and you are ready to go!!!!!!
    Hope that is help
