Mac book pro -intel duo - will my old software work with it?
Not sure if I should get the 2.4 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo Mac book pro as I have heard old software will not work on it and I really do not want to have to buy new software, just to add on to the cost.
Can anyone help.
The software I have that I want to work with it is:
Micro Soft Office Version 10.0.0
Photoshop Version 7.0
Final cut Pro HD Version 4.5
I am have OS X TIGER 10.4.6 although the operating system that will come with the new Mac book Pro will be leopard - I guess.
Can any one help with my dilemma?

Microsoft Office v.X will work fine, Adobe Photoshop 7 should be able to do its thing as well although you might have problems installing it (some of the Adobe installers don't work right). However, it's not recommended that you use less than FCP 5.1.
Sure having to upgrade software is a pain and can substantially add to the cost of transitioning to Intel system but as time most applications will need to be upgraded anyway. It just pushes the costs forward a bit. Just remember you pay upgrade costs and not new package costs.

Mac Book Pro Intel Core Duo 2 overheating and turning off
I've been having this nasty problem with my Mac Book Pro Intel Core Duo 2 (2.8 Ghz, 4 MB 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM, bought in August 2009) for quite a while, but recently it's intensifying.
It starts to overheat badly, and then randomly turns itself off if not connected to the power.
When restarted, the clock is set to January 1st, 2001.
Needless to say, the overheating impacts on my capacity to use the computer the way I want, destroying my fps in games and slowing the processor while I use Ableton Live to produce music.
I tried to look around, but I cannot figure out if this is a known issue of some sorts, or a problem related to this very computer: I did read on the forums a suggestion to run the Hardware Tests from the Snow Leopard DVD by booting the system with the DVD in while holding d, but nothing happens if I do so.

I have recently purchased a hybred 750GbHDD as an upgrade for my MAC Book Pro (Intell Version) I have a boot camp partition to the original 500GB HDD. How can I expand both partitions to fit the new drive?
I have tried bootcamp and have had no luck due to the fact that boot camp doesn't see the additional HDD space of 250Gb. What am I not doing?Ouch, well there is a problem.
This is the stack of partitions on your old drive
EFI (hidden)

This is the same stack on your new drive imaged from the old one.

EFI has to be at the top of the drive and Lion Recovery has to be at the bottom of the drive.
And you only have four partitions.
You can't move the Lion Recovery Partition or Bootcamp partiton, however you can expand the Lion Partition into empty space below it. (but can't delete or move the Lion Recovery partition)
Your Duplicator duplicated perfectly, too perfectly Likely would work with same sized drives/partitions.
This is what your going to need to do.
You need to move the Bootcamp partition to a blank external drive using WinClone and disconnect. This is so you have two backups of it. (one on your old 500GB drive)
You will need a drive enclousre or IDE/SATA to USB adapter cable for the older 500GB drive and option key boot from it. (some enclosures can't be booted from so check first Other World Computing is good place to ask)
Download the free Carbon Copy Cloner, grab any new files off the new 750GB internal drive to the old 500GB your booted from.
Open Apple's Disk Utility and Erase with Zero option the entire internal 750GB drive and let it rip, this will map off as many bad sectors and improve reliability.
Now use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the 500GB Lion + Lion Recovery Partitions to the internal 750GB, it will "fix" things and place Lion Recovery at the bottom of the drive where it belongs, give all the extra space to OS X Lion.
Next your going to have to follow WinClones instructions to restore your Bootcamp, likely you will have to recreate the Bootcamp partition first (in Bootcamp) to the size you want and then clone. Likely Winclone may "fix" Windows to recognize it's in a new larger partition now. I don't know you'll have to check as I haven't used it.
When Bootcamp creates the partition it will place it near the bottom next to the Lion Recovery Partition.
As you know you will have to re-validate Windows with Lord Redmond or it expires as you changed the hardware. -

As a designer working on high definition heavy graphic files intended for digital printing, i am about to go for mc book pro 2,16 duo core and 2gb ram.
I need to use CS2 (photoshop, illustrator) and know that it is not a native soft version, so not otimized for this processor. Any how, I just cannot wait CS3 (Adobe says 2007 whenever they are ready !), so I need advise of professional users of such applications on this mc book pro intel duo core 2,16 17".
I heard pretty scary rumours about such a professional use.
PLEASE HELP BEFORE I GO FOR PC/WIN !!!CS runs beautifully, with really no lag at all. Keep in mind that I haven't gotten to upgrading from 1 GB RAM to 2 yet, since my tablet died and I needed to replace that. I just installed CS2 last week, and there is a lag, and we'll soon see if more memory helps. Everything works fine, no crashes, etc., but there is in my opinion a noticeable difference in loading time, and various other tasks within the apps take longer. Again, CS2 works just fine, but the performance of CS is much better.

To reinstall the original OSX in your rMBP, boot the MBP using the COMMAND-OPTION-R keys. The display should show a picture if the planet earth and you will be connected to the Apple servers. Make certain that you have a solid Internet connection and follow the instructions.

Note that those models are completely sealed with no serviceable or upgradeable parts inside. So if you decide to bite the bullet, be sure to customize its guts to your heart's content from the get-go as no further change will be possible. This means CPU speed, amount of RAM and size of the solid state drive. Other external options, like the Superdrive, can be added later. -
I have a mac book pro that both USB ports have stopped working one about a year ago and one recently. Is it possible to connect to another one of the other MBP's ports with a cord that ends with a USB port?

I went by the Apple Store and they told me that there was a "Flat Rate" repair service for this particular part where they would replace the logic board along with the USB ports for $350. Seems like best avenue. All of this would have been moot but my wifi in the computer also doesn't work so I was using my phone as a hot spot and tethering it to the computer for Internet access when the last port quit. This left me with no internet and no printing capabilities on the computer I use for my business. Basically became a nice paperweight. lol
They will ship it off Monday and I should have it back Thursday!

Whenever I insert an album into the disc drive of the Mac Book Pro (New, December 23rd 2012) it cannot find the artwork (comes up with unspecified error; 609). But until I installed the new version of iTunes it would download artwork. Why is this?

Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless. -
My hard drive on my mac book pro went so I had to get a new one. I had everything saved onto my external hard drive and I don't know how to resynch it to the new hard drive so my computer will have everything on it that it used to. does anyone know how to do this?

Sprayed glass cleaner directly on my mac book pro screen - will the screen be permanently 'spotted'????
No chemicals should ever be sprayed on the screen of a Mac - they have coatings that can be damaged. Only use plain water, on a clean cloth that is only slightly damp and do not wipe over the edges of the glass.
How much damage was done depends on what kind of cleaner was used and how much was sprayed on. -
I have the SD files on my mac book pro hardrive but they are not compatiable and i cannot view them. I want to edit the clips in FInal Cut Pro. I think i need to downloadd some software which will transcode the files and then i can import into Final Cut Pro? Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
Acorrding to the technical specs, it shoots mpeg4/h.264... However, I see other places mention it is MTS...
Do you still have the original file structure intact? Or do you have just individual movie files? whats the extension? .MTS, .MPEG4, MOV?
If MTS and you no longer have the original file sturcute intact, you need to use Clipwrap, if you do have the original files structure, you may be able to import using Log and Transfer.... -
I have a 2009 mac book pro running 10.6.8. I also use win 7 via boot camp. I can load CDs and DVDs fine, when booted onto win 7 but cannot get the same dvds or cds loaded when running OSX. So, I'm having to reboot to win 7, every time I want to import a CD into my itunes library - I load the disc in win 7, then reboot back to osx in order to import the CD into my itunes library (which i have on my OSX side). When running OSX, everytime I try to load any CD or DVD, the drive shoots the disc right out. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
