Matrox DualHead2Go and ADC Display?

I have an older 17" acrylic display with that big ADC-DVI adapter. I'm currently using my Macbook Pro (ATI X1600 video card, Dual-Link DVI connector) with a surprisingly good HP VGA panel, the same resolution as the Cinema Display.
Has anyone had any luck with using an ADC monitor with the Matrox DualHead2Go? I'd like to connect both of these displays to my MBP, and have heard concerns about compatibility with certain devices and the ADC adapter. Secondly, does anyone know if the DualHead2Go can support mismatched signals, at the same resolution(1x DVI, 1x VGA).
I suspect I need the Digital Version, but it seems that because the signal has to turn into VGA first, it may not work with the ADC display. So third, is the Macbook Pro capable of connecting to the newer DisplayPort version of the DualHead2Go? Assuming someone makes a DVI-Displayport connector.

The idea behind the DualHead2Go is that the two displays be matching displays, so mismatched resolution won't work AFAIK. But you can ask Matrox that question to be sure.
If your MBP has DVI for its output, then it won't be compatible with the DisplayPort version of the the DualHead2Go.

As in the question, everything works fine, but there is a lag with the mouse pointer, latency issue. I have seen on other forums this has been an issue, but with different solutions, and some with no solutions. Matrox technical team have no solutions for me unfortunately, so any similar user experiences would be good.

  • Matrox DualHead2Go and Macbook Pro

    Hey all,
First time Mac owner and poster.
I'm looking to connect my two identical Dell 22" monitors to my Macbook Pro as an extended desktop (both monitors have DVI inputs only). I've done some research and it looks like Matrox provide the ideal solution for this.
However I'm a bit confused as to what cables are supplied and what cables I need to buy.
I'm looking at the Matrox DualHead2Go DP Edition (D2G-DP-MIF), I've just bought my MBP new a couple of days ago and has a Thunderbolt/MiniDP port.
The Matrox website (http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/dh2go/guide.html) also says that I need to purchase the "Matrox DP-to-DVI cable (CAB-DP-DVIF)" for my particular scenario which makes sense because this Matrox has DP outputs, however do I need to buy two (one for each monitor)? Or is one already supplied in the box, it doesn't seem to specify.
Also, does it have to be the exact part number mentioned or could it be any old DP-to-DVI cable, as their are cheaper ones elsewhere?
Finally, this Matrox conects to a DP port, my Macbook Pro only has a Mini-DP port. Is a cable provided for this or do I need to buy one of those too?
If anybody can help or has done something similar before please let me know.
I want to avoid purchasing this then having to wait several more days/weeks for extra cables to arrive, or alternatively I don't want to waste time/money buying cables I don't need, etc.
    Thanks in advance,
    Scott.

  • Black Screen with MINI and ADC Display

    MacMini OS X 10.5
    Bootcamp
    Win XP
    G4 OS X 10.4.11
    Apple 21" Cinema Display (ADC)
    1600x1024 32-bit color
    Apple ADC power adapter
Dr Bott MoniSwitch mini KVM Switch
    ADC-DVI Adapter
I just installed XP on the Mini and I'm having occasional problems with a black screen on start up or when I switch OS. When this happens, I'm unable to get video from any OS or either computer. The only solution I've been able to come up with is to power all systems down and un/re-plug the display from the power adapter.
I've seen the article regarding black screens under NVIDIA gfx cards but that doesn't apply to my case.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    Dave

Oh, sorry, didn't get that. That monitor was actually called the 22" Cinema, not 21". Apple had a 21" CRT but I think that was called a Studio Display, so I got confused.
So sometimes it works correctly at 1600 x 1024 under Windows (Bootcamp) and sometimes it doesn't? Is that correct? Those times when it is giving a black screen, have you considered trying to establish a VNC connection to the mini from another computer on the network? You might find that the wrong resolution is being sent to the ACD those times when you get a black screen. Though that doesn't really tell you why it's happening, it's a starting point.

  • Mouse Tracking Skips With Matrox DualHead2Go

    Hey guys!
JUST got a brand spankin' new MacBook Pro. Fully loaded. i7, 8gb RAM, the works.
Yesterday I hooked it up to a brand new Matrox DualHead2Go and two Dell U2410 Displays. Worked like a dream. It's kind of annoying that the MBP sees the two displays as one because everything pops up in the center (middle of the two) by default, but I'll get over that. (unless you have a solution)
The real problem is my mouse tracking. I've tried it with my Magic Mouse, and with the trackpad, and with both, the tracking skips. I'll move the cursor in a circle and it'll skip ahead and sometimes move erratically. As soon as I unplug the displays, the tracking is perfect again. The weird thing is that yesterday it was working perfectly fine. I've tried rebooting with then plugged in, plugging them in after boot, unplugging and then plugging in while booted.
I can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong and it's driving me nuts. Any help is super greatly appreciated.

So, after posting I tested by popping into Safe Mode and opening iTunes. When in safe mode, it doesn't act erratically, it works fine.
I called Apple and they said you're not supposed to use two external displays with a MBP (figured). But he was very helpful. He directed me to call Matrox and see what's up on their end and get back to him. If Matrox can't find a fix he said he'd forward on to iTunes engineers.
Meanwhile, though, I also saved the processes that were running in Safe Mode and compared to the processes that run when I boot into my login. There were quite a few differences on both sides. Safe had some things that werent running in my boot and vice versa. I killed everythign but background processes for 1Password and Little Snitch. Those two just pop back open after killing the process. Everything else running was Apple signed, yet the cursor was still acting erratically with nothing but iTunes open.
I have a feeling it's on Matrox's end, but if that's the case why is iTunes the only culprit?
    Thanks again for your help!

  • ADC displays, 10.4.11 and MDD

I've been running a dual 1.25 PowerMac G4 with a 23" Cinema display (ADC) for about 8 years now without a single hint of trouble. No room for the 23" ADC monitor on my desk anymore (making room for 30" w/MacPro), so I picked up a 17" ADC Studio display and wall-mounted it (actually, I have two of these).
Trouble is, my MDD G4 refuses to turn on with either 17" ADC Studio display connected. (LED only blinks once, machine never goes on.) The 23" Cinema works perfectly (as always) and a 15" ADC Studio display works, too. Both 17" ADC Studio displays work fine connected to an old G4 Cube, but both prevent my MDD from starting up. I always thought any Apple ADC display would work on the G4 MDD - no? What makes the 17" Studio displays different? Video card is the OEM ATI Radeon 9000 Pro (1 ADC, 1 DVI).
What am I missing? All four displays work, only the combination of MDD and 17" Studio display fails....?

Tried to startup from a great old SCSI drive running OS9, Monitors CDEV set to proper resolution, etc.
Computer's power button LED only lights when pressed, nothing else happens.
It's a hardware issue, simultaneous with two identical 17" ADC Studio Displays? I have an ADC to DVI converter, but what's the point of trying that? So..... why do they both work perfectly when plugged into a (10.3) G4 Cube?! What's the diff between G4 MDD (Radeon 9000 Pro) and G4 Cube's AGP cards (32MB VRAM 1280x1024 ATI RV200? - upgrade from OEM card)....?

  • Matrox dualhead2go 1920x1200 blinking screens

    Hello,
I've got a problem with Matrox dualhead2go, when trying to run it on two samsung syncmaster 2493hm, on 1920x1200 resolution, the screens starts to blink.
My graphic card is NVidia GeForce 9400M.
From Matrox support I got an answer that this is a snow leopard >= 10.6.2 issue, does anybody know what is the status of this bug, and where can I find any information about it on apple sites?

Not according to their compatibility table, shane.
I hasten to add that I have never used this device, but their compatability tables don't say that to me:
    Mac System compatibility
    Mac® OS X
    DualHead2Go *Digital Edition*
Notebook model GPU model Video Output Maximum resolutions
    MacBook Pro (Late 2008 / Mid 2009) NVidia GeForce 9600M/9400M Mini DisplayPort2 2048x768 (*2x 1024x768)*
    (from http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/support/compatibility/gxm/ )
From what I can see the pre-unibody MBP models support 2x 1920x1200 on the "Digital Edition", but not the current ones unless you buy the specific "DP" (Display Port) model.

  • Matrox DualHead2Go Digital ME?

I'm using a Matrox DualHead2Go Digital Mac Edition graphics adapter with (2) LG IPS235 displays. This device effectively connects both monitors so I have a 3840 x 1080 workspace. The problem I'm having is I only want InDesign and all of my other applications to span (1) monitor. For some reason that works in apps like Safari and Mail, but all of my Adobe apps want to occupy both monitors. Sure, I can adjust the Adobe workspace, but the menu spans both monitors. Is there anyway to adjust the Adobe desktop on these apps so they only use one monitor?
If somebody has a similar Matrox device they'll probably understand what I'm talking about.
    Thanks!

    Kelly:
It sounds like you haven't installed the PowerDesk for Mac.  It will solve the problem of 'seeing' multiple monitors.

  • Dual Monitors with Matrox DualHead2Go DP on 13" Unibody MBP

So I've seen a few strings around this issue but no real answers...
Matrox DualHead2Go should be able to to run 2 x 19" monitors (1280x1024)easily. I've downloaded the Powerdesk software from Matrox and hooked everything up but just can't get near the resolution needed. Has anyone seen a step by step solution anywhere? The display properties in OSX won't go bigger than 1920x1200 and I need 2560x1440. The graphics card is well capable of doing it as I've previously been running a single 27" screen. The best I can do is 640x480, which just *****. Clearly there is a settings/set up issue with the MBP and the Matrox. Has anyone manged to set up a DualHead or even TripleHead with the MBP?

    hi solfella,
you've probably solved this by now but I thought I'd put the answer in-case anyone else stumbles on your post.
I got a dualhead2go dp edition today. The answer's not very intuitive and I was puzzled till I found the answer (luck mainly).
    1) I assume you've downloaded the mac powerdesk software from the matrox website; address in the matrox manual.
    2) In the System Preferences pane a new icon will have appeared at the bottom called Matrox GXM control panel. Open this.
    3) You need to 1st set whether the screens are normal aspect or wide screen.
    4) Find the resolution you want on the supported Resolution and Refresh Rates list and move it with the arrow to the Active resolutions and refresh rates list.
[a quick way to do will probably be to click the Configure Base on Attached Displays button]
    5) You may then need to open the Matrox Powerdesk application and select Change Display Setting from the drop down menu. Then select the resolution you want.
The resolutions you want should be easy. I have 15" Macbook Pro and am currently running 2 Samsung T260 26" monitors with 1920x1200 pixels each as well as the inbuilt display (1440x900). The graphics are still noticeably quicker than my 2007 Macbook.
I'm still playing but it seems like a good bit of kit.

  • Matrox DualHead2Go DP Edition on MBP (May 2010) under Bootcamp Windows 7?

Will the Matrox DualHead2Go DP Edition be recognized and work under "Bootcamped" Windows 7 running on a Macbook Pro (May 2010)?
On a similar/related note, are there DisplayPort drivers for Windows 7 under Bootcamp to make the miniDP port to be recognized and work under it - even for something else, like the simple miniDP-to-DVI and miniDP-to-VGA adapters (if not for the DualHead2Go)?

Ok, I think this problem has been resolved, so I'll post the solution in case others with the Samsung Syncmaster 204B have the same problem. The answer was erasing the PRAM by holding Option-Command-P-R at boot up (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379).
This is what I think happened:
An update in Windows Update is available for the Syncmaster 204B, but wasn't visible when I first connected the Syncmaster. I wasn't able to see the update until I rebooted with the Syncmaster connected (after several crashes). After seeing the update in Windows Update under 'Optional Updates", called "Samsung - Display- 204T/204Ts/204B, Syncmaster Magic CX20Ts(digital)", I installed it, but bootcamp Windows continued to crash randomly after attaching the Syncmaster via both Mini Display Port-to-DVI and Mini Display Port-to-VGA. Sometimes it crashed after a few minutes, sometimes an hour, the same as before I installed the update.
I was convinced that it was a compatibility problem between Windows 7 x64, the Syncmaster 204B and the MacBook Pro 13" Mid-2010 hardware since this problem only happened when booting into bootcamp Windows 7 x64 (everything worked fine in Mac OS), but now that doesn't seem to be the case. I think the update fixed the problem, but after installing the update some of the of the original incompatible display settings remained resident in the Mac's PRAM. Erasing the PRAM cleared these settings and allowed the new updated settings to be loaded instead, fixing the crash issue.

    !!!!!!!!! WHATS WRONG?
    PowerMac G4 400 MHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi Gary,
The G4 AGP graphics model is pre-ADC and its motherboard will not support a video card with a native ADC port. The ADC ports on such cards draw their power and USB feed via an extra leg on the card that fits into an extra slot at one end of the AGP slot on the computer motherboard. Your computer does not have this extra slot.
To run an ADC display off your computer, you can run a video card with a DVI output, then use a DVI to ADC adaptor such as this one:
    http://www.drbott.com/prod/db.lasso?code=0111-DVAD
You can use VGA to ADC adaptors, but they are much more expensive (than a DVI to ADC adaptor plus another video card), and don't give as good a result.
    Cheers!

  • Matrox DualHead2Go Digital

    Hi
I've bought a Matrox DualHead2Go Digital to use two monitors (2*1280x1024) to obtain a 2560x1024 resolution.
The problem is that the Matrox DualHead2Go Digital doesn't function with new MacBook; I wrote to Matrox and they answare me that MacBook and Matrox DualHead functions only with max 2048x768 resolution, and the reason is the graphic card.
The absurdity is that with PowerBook 12" I didn't have any problem...

The MacBook's GPU has been well documented as underpowered for many games, and even some of Apple's own professional software. It would appear this has not stopped people from buying it, given its resale value and how often it ends up on the top seller list. If you need a high end GPU Mac that is portable, get a used or refurbished MacBook Pro*:

  • Mac Pro Adc Displays

    Hi
Since Friday i have a Mac Pro.
I connect my old Adc Cinema Display, with an ADC-DVI Adapter.
    Everything work fine.
I have another 17" ADC Display.
Is it possible to connect two ADC Displays, with two ADC-DVI Adaperts to the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT Graphiccard without a problem?
    Thanks
    Greetings from Vienna

I'm seeing a lot of this.
    Pay attention closely.
If you have an ADC display and you want to connect it to the new Mac Pro, you must buy a different adapter. The ones supplied with the Mac Pro do not connect an ADC display to a DVI Mac Pro. You need to buy one that has a power supply and a USB port. DrBott and Apple make them.

  • DVI display port/ADC display port bottleneck!

My G5 dual came with ONE DVI display port and ONE ADC display port. I wish to add another monitor for editing purposes. My current monitor is an NEC multi-sync, which uses up the DVI port...leaving the ADC port empty and useless.
    1. Am I forced to purchase an Apple Cinema Display?
    2. Would it be more frugal to purchase another video card?
    3. Can I make this work even though I have bought every 'adaptor' under the sun and the ADC port is still useless?

  • IMac & ADC display

I have an older Apple LCD display with the ADC connector, which I can use with my (even older) PowerMac. It's a great monitor, and I'd hate to have it just sit around when I upgrade...hopefully to an iMac.
I know there are connectors for mini-DVI to VGA or DVI, but would it be possible to go from mini-DVI to ADC? Or would a mini-DVI to DVI and then a DVI to ADC adapter have to be the way to go? Has anyone tried this before?

Yes, thanks. But has anyone actually daisy-chained several connectors together to make sure it works with an ADC display? I just don't want to spend the $100+ and find out that it doesn't work. In theory it seems like it should, but one can never fully tell with technology.
