Merge iweb sites from multiple user accounts on same computer

With the previous iweb version, my children created their own iweb sites on their own users, but all under my own .mac account. It worked great.
But now with the new "upgraded" iweb '08, that isn't allowed anymore.
So, I created a new user on our computer for all of us to use to maintain our multiple iweb accounts on.
How can I move multiple iweb sites from multiple users on the same computer into one user?

Each of the user's work in iWeb will be contained in a single file, Domain.sites2, which can be found in this location on the hard drive for each user account. You will need to copy all of these Domain.sites2 files to an external drive, or, at the very least, burn them to a disk to make them transferable from one user account to another. A flash drive also works great for this.
Once you have made all of these Domain files accessible from the new user account that you created, you will still have a formidable task ahead of you, i.e., publishing separate sites, from separate Domain.sites2 files, to the same .Mac account/directory. In other words, bringing all of these Domain files together for access by a single user account will not solve the problem. You may very well be able to solve the problem with things the way they are, but it will involve some shuffling of Site's files on the iDisk prior to publishing.
The method I'm going to give you has worked well for me. So far, here in the forums, I've read posts from (2) other users who were also successful. Conversely, I know of at least (3) other users who have been unsuccessful with this approach. I sure hope it works for you.
Open System Preferences and go to .Mac. Turn syncing off, if it is on, and leave it off.
Now, in Finder, navigate to the current Site files on your iDisk, following this path:
Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites/NameOfSiteFolder
Drag the Site folder that is named for your site, (not the directory Site folder), back one level on the iDisk, into the Web folder. This is where some run into difficulties--you may get an error message that the folder is "in use, and cannot be moved". I have never gotten this message, and am able to move my Site's folders around with no problem on the iDisk.
If you are successful moving the folder, choose one of your other accounts on your machine, launch iWeb, and Publish all to .Mac. The existing site on the server will not be deleted. Now, go back to the iDisk and move that site folder, (the one you just published), back one level, again, to the root Web directory. Publish your next site, from your next account.
When you are finished publishing sites, just move the Site folders back to their original location on the iDisk--Web/Sites/SiteFoldersHere. All sites will be accessible from a browser using the web.mac.com/username/nameofsite url.
It is important to use the Publish all to .Mac command in iWeb. A simple Publish to .Mac command will not put the correct index.html file in place on the server.
Post back and inform us of your success.

  • Sharing Contents on Multiple User Accounts on Same Computer in Leopard???

For some reason this is not working for me....?
We have one Apple TV, and another computer with two user accounts (both Admin) on it.
One of those accounts is the account that "syncs" with the Apple TV, everything is fine here.
The second account on that computer can't access the ATV at all, it doesn't show up in iTunes, even after the "Look for Apple TVs" is checked ....?? Any clues????
Firewall is set to "Allow All Applications"
    Is this even possible?

Has anyone gotten this to work yet? I'm having the same problem. I just bought an Apple TV -- love it. It is in process of its first sync, so maybe it can't add another computer while it's syncing? I have two accounts on my one computer -- mine and my wife's. I have Leopard. When I first setup the Apple TV it appeared in my iTunes library, I entered the passcode, and it is now happily syncing (although oddly enough it shows that it is done syncing on my iTunes but on the Apple TV it says it's still syncing). I then go to my wife's account, and no matter what I try I can't get it to appear as a device at all or even ask for a passcode. I looked in the Apple TV menu, and there's an option to add another iTunes library for streaming, which gives me a passcode (which is useless since I can't even see the device in my wife's account), or change computers to sync to. It doesn't give the option to add a computer to sync to. Is this possible? It seems like they would allow for something like this. All the tips for setting Firewall settings seem to be completely different in Leopard as well.

  • Streaming from multiple user accounts......problem

With my initial set up I had no problem. I have a large iTunes Library. 48k songs. Over 270 GB of files. I synced a few photos and some music for the AppleTV slide shows but everything else I was going to stream. Streaming is working wonderfully from MY user account but if I try and stream a similar sized library from another user account on the same computer it is "NO JOY". I get the "loading library" dialog with the little circle of dashes going round and round but it eventually gives up and does not load. I have tried this with iTunes running on my user account and with iTunes turned off on my user account and either way the library from the other user account will NOT load. I am at a loss here. The set up for the second user went smoothly. I clicked add a library and got a key code on my TV screen. AppleTV showed up in the devices column in iTunes of the second user account and accepted the key code but like I said earlier the library will just not load for streaming. Streaming from my first user account is still working well. I have not found any discussion topics dealing with streaming from multiple user accounts. Hopefully someone who is doing this will chime in and help me out if possible.

The only way I have been able to get this to work is to quit the iTunes that I am currently streaming from. Switch (on the computer) users to the library I want to stream from. Start iTunes on that user. If I follow this I can get AppleTV to load the library of the second user. If I do NOT quit iTunes from the first user it will not load the second user's library. If I have iTunes from the second user running at the same time I quit the first user's iTunes it will NOT load the second users library. I guess it is a bug and will need to be fixed with the next software release. I would like to be able to switch among user libraries at will and independent of which user is currently using the computer.

  • Photoshop Elements 11 installed on Mac Mini OS X 10.9.5. Application running successfully on bot main user and administrative accounts for considerable time with no warning messages. When established a new user account on same computer and try to call up

Photoshop Elements 11 installed on Mac Mini OS X 10.9.5. Application running successfully on bot main user and administrative accounts for considerable time with no warning messages. When established a new user account on same computer and try to call up elements receive message “Some ot the application components are missing from the Application directory. Please reinstall the application.” How do I correct this problem without disturbing application in main user account?

Brooks lansing if you create a new Administrator account does the same issue occur?  If so then it is likely that there is a file permission failure and file permissions have been set for the existing Users instead of the groups they belong to.
Have you removed and reinstalled Photoshop Elements 11?  This may reset the file permissions to the correct state to allow it to work under new accounts.

  • Transferring iweb site from 1 mobileme account to another

i need to transfer my iweb site from one mobile me account to another, but i dont want to buy it in HOPES that i can do it. I want to make sure i actually can.
    anybody have experience in this?

Everything you made in iWeb is stored in a file on your hard disk.
You can find this file in it's default location.
../Yourusername/Library/Application Support/iWeb, the name of the file is Domain.sites2
You can freely copy/move this file to an other computer or an other user on the same computer with the other MobileMe account.
If you want to keep everything "as is" on your computer in iWeb and only want to change the MobileMe account: open System Preferences / tab MobileMe / 'log out' and 'log in' with the other account.

  • Importing Photos and Music from Multiple users on the same Mac

I am the same person with multiple users on one iMac. I need to have the same pics and music files on all of the user names on the one computer.
I have the family pack MobileMe plan.
Where are the files located for the photos and music in iTunes?
I would like to import them from one user to another user on the same computer.
    Thank you

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
If you Import the files from one User to another then you will use double the disk space on your HD as you will have multiple copies of everything. Why not simply share the files between accounts?
For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • "multiple users" on the same computer

I'd like to access the same project with different users on the same computer.
Getting the permissions setup for the folders and files was not a problem.
    But ... FCPX is not "seeing" the projects and events created by the other user;
    1) They don't show up in the project window (of the new user) when he boots FCPX
    2) I can't seem to import the projects (their grayed out)
I need two seperate users to work on a projects using the same computer.
But I want each user to access the project from their own "user profile"
    Is that do-able?
If not I would at least like to re-import the same project
    from the other users account/profile.
    I hope that's clear

    Michael_North wrote:
    Right ...
In this case, the Projects and Events are NOT in the movies folder of user 1.
    They're on a separate drive ...
    On the same computer.
You'd think after the permissions are set up, that it would work.
I can understand that booting the program from users 2's profile
would leave FCPX unaware of the existence of the projects.
But there must be some way of re-importing the projects in the user 2's profile ... right?
There is no re-importing; it should just work. If both users have read/write access to drive, the events and projects should be accessible to FCP X. Are you sure the permissions are ok?
The easiest way to handle this situation is to check the box for "Ignore ownership on this volume" in the Finder: select the drive, choose Get Info, unlock, check. Of course, then all files in the volume will be fully accessible to any user of this mac, but if there are only 2 users, and you both know what you are doing, it will avoid loads of permission problems.

  • Make library available to multiple users on the same computer

I want to have the library available to more than one user on the same computer. The "share my music" option doesn't seem to help. I also tried running iTunes as the second user and setting the library file to the one I had created as the first user, but nothing happened. Any suggestions?

  • Maintaining an iWeb site from multiple computers without MobileMe

    Hi,
I've chosen iWeb '09 to create the web presence for one of my hobby clubs (RC aircraft). The club doesn't have a MobileMe account, and I've used the FTP upload feature in iWeb '09 to publish the site. This has been working perfectly for me, but what I'd really like is to be able to continue working from either my MacBook or my iMac, depending upon my location. Sometimes I'm away from home and have some free time to update the site, but other times I am at home and I want to work on it from the big-screen iMac.
I realize that this can be done via copying domain files to a shared drive, and my thought is to share an external hard drive to both my network, and over the internet via an Airport Extreme. The only documents I was able to find regarding this referred to hosting on MobileMe. My only worry is that this may not be possible if I'm NOT hosting the site on MobileMe. In another life, I used FrontPage to publish such hobby sites, and it could work on the files from any copy of FP on any computer. Though I don't really miss FP as a whole, I do miss that feature.
Yes, I know it will likely be suggested that the club open a MobileMe account. I have one and I love it, but let's face it... 100 bucks a year is a bit much. The club's entire web hosting service isn't even half that.

Before I go off on a trip I upload a zipped copy of my domain file to the server. I can then download it onto another Mac in another location to work on it.
You'll find another method at the bottom of this page under "Updating your Website from Multiple Locations" .....

  • How to transfer an iWeb site from one MobileMe account to another.

I am creating an iWeb site for a friend. I am doing this using my mac and my MobileMe account. I understand that the iWeb site assets are all stored in my MobileMe iDisk. I want to take the finished site and transfer it to my friends computer and his MobileMe iDisk so he can manage it from there. How do I do this.

If you have your friends MobileMe login details, then you can publish the site to his MMe account directly from your Mac. Go to System Preferences and log out of your MMe account and then into his and then go back to iWeb and then publish the site directly to his MMe account.
As far as giving him the ability to manage the sites, just give him the relevant domain file for the site. Go to User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites and find the domain file and then you can e-mail it to his Mac and he can then put the domain file in the same place on his Mac.
Whatever you do, don't publish the site to your desktop - you won't be able to do anything with it. It is the domain file that you need if your friend wants to manage and alter the site in any way.

  • Maintaining an iWeb site from multiple machines?

After a reasonable amount of research I am pretty sure the answer is "no" but here we go...
I have both a Laptop and a desktop and would like to be able to update and maintain my site from either machine. From the looks of things this isn't as easy as it looks. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

    James,
I already posted a "thank you" after the next post. I am anxious to try using the Flash Drive with my desktop and laptop.
I found out the hard way and lost a few entries. I had done my original blog and photo pages on my desktop. I copied all the "Domain" files onto the iDisk and then uploaded them on my laptop. (That took too long!) But everything was working fine. Then I added a couple more pages via the desktop, and forgot to put them on the laptop. I came to Ireland, with the laptop and published several new pages and lo and behold those couple of pages had gone missing!! I realized fairly quickly that I had overwritten those pages.
Before I go back to the US next week, I am going to load all the "Domain" files onto a flash drive and take it with me and transfer to my desktop. I have to leave the laptop here in Ireland with my husband.
Could you tell me exactly what I have to copy onto the flash drive? I had the instructions printed up somewhere, but they are not with me now!
    Now another question for you!
Obviously I have all my .mac information on both of my computers. I will be visiting my daughter's after I return. Can I plug my flash drive into her laptop (an Apple, of course) - log into my .mac account and then add and publish to my iWeb sites? Or are there some other adjustments I have to make to my daughter's iWeb before I can publish to my web site. We all have the same edition of iLife 06 - I had bought a family pack.
    Any advice?!! Thanks

  • Multiple itunes accounts on same computer

I have an itunes account that is already set up for my ipod and the music that I like and it works fine. No real problems yet!
I just bought my husband his own ipod and he would like his own totally seperate account on itunes. I thought this would be pretty simple and just logged on to the computer under his account and tried to download itunes under his email address and yet after it says itunes installation is complete, when I open up itunes, MY account pops up!
How in the world do I do this so when itunes is opened up it will be under his own account?
Hope this makes sense! I am pretty new to all of this!
    Thank you!

  • Multiple Users Syncing on Same Computer

Is it possible to allow multiple users to sync their Palm Pilots to their individual oracle calendar account on the same computer? I have fifteen palms syncing on the my computer and I want each of them to connect to a different oracle calendar username.

    Hi,
if you really want to be sure, that there is no confusion when synchronizing the iPad or your 4G you should create a second iTunes library. Just hold down the Shift button when opening iTunes. You'll be asked if you want to create a new library, or open an existing one.
This way you can switch between the libraries and no one of your data will be loaded on the iPad or vice-versa.
It shouldn't be a problem if the iPad is not synced with iTunes for 3-4 months.
