Oracle DBA and Oracle SYS ADMIN

is oracle database administator and oracle system administrator same?if not then how the duties and responsiblities differ from each other.

I believe it only differs in title. But, they carry out the same resonsibilities.
for me, I haven't come across of any title called 'oracle system administrator'.

  • Difference between oracle 10g dba and oracle 11i apps dba

    hi
    can any one please explain this.
    thank you

    Hi,
    can any one please explain this.An Oracle Applications DBA is very different from a regular Oracle database administrator and requires specialized skills in business administration and Oracle application server architectures. The Oracle Applications DBA job role is less compartmentalized than a traditional Oracle DBA and the Oracle Applications DBA must also have skills in these areas:
    Database Design - Many shops require customized functional extensions and reporting data marts and the Oracle Applications DBA must have outstanding Database design skills.
    Oracle Application Server - The Oracle Applications DBA must understand the internals of the Oracle concurrent manager and understand how to monitor and tune Oracle Applications.
    Functional Expertise - Many shops requires a business degree and a general understanding of the Oracle Applications module. For example, accountants are widely used to support Oracle eBusiness Suite (Oracle Financials), and accountants with an IT background are easily trained in Oracle Applications DBA support.

    "Which career is most rewarding one in terms of . . . Least amount of work"
    "which career will be . . . easy to learn"
    Since "easy" and "least work" seem important to you, I'd suggest a career in something besides IT. I could make some specific suggestions but run the risk of insulting people who work in those areas.

    These errors are ignorable, Oracle just trying to drop the package before creating them. If this is the first time you run catproc.sql, the errors are expected.

  • Oracle BI Admin Tool: copying permissions from group to group

    Hi!
    I'm working with Oracle BI Admin Tool (10.1.3.4).
    I have a lot of groups in the repository.
    I want to create a seperate group for each department and set filter for each group. For example, group 'Market' should see data only from the Marketing department, group 'HR' should see data only from its department.
    The question is the following: if I have 100 groups, do I have to set permissions to each of them manually or is there any mechanism of quick copying (function 'duplicate' is not suitable as groups are already created)?
    Thank you,
    Natallia

    First about filtering data for specific user groups: you need to implement row level security by using session variables.
    Here are some links:
    http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2008/06/30/oracle-bi-ee-1013332-row-level-security-and-row-wise-intialized-session-variables/
    http://www.rittmanmead.com/2007/05/13/obiee-and-row-level-security/
    http://obieegeek.wordpress.com/2009/04/05/row-level-security-using-initialization-blocks-and-session-variables/
    (You can find these links by using google.. ;))
    Second about groups and copying privileges/permissions: I don't think it is possible to copy privileges/permissions (other than hardcoding UDML) but it is actually not necessary when you create a security model first. Let me explain: in OBIEE groups can be member of a group, and the underlying group will inherit all the permissions of the group it is member of.
    So what you need to do, is to create one group with common permissions and privileges and add all the department groups to this group. If you want, you can then set the specific permissions for each group.

    You can't directly use the gateway - you can only access a gateway using a database link.
    So this won't work:
    $ sqlplus aa/aa@dg4msql
    You need to connect to your Oracle database (for example as sysdba) and create a (public) database link:
    create [public] database link dg4msql connect to "<MS SQl Server username! identified by "<MS SQl Server password>" using 'dg4msql;
    Once you create the database link you can now access the MS SQl Server tables:
    select * from "your MS SQL Server table"@dg4msql;

  • Oracle 10g Admin-I is done, what next?

    Hi,
    I have completed Oracle 10g Admin I & SQL. Can i take Oracle 11g Admin II or i just have to completed Oracle 10g Admin II (Instructer Lead) exam and the go for an upgrade to 11g ?
    Plz suggest.
    Regards

    Your question is not really clear. I'm going to take some guesses at what you mean and what you are asking
    I have completed Oracle 10g Admin I & SQL.I'm guessing that by this you mean that you have passed two Oracle certification exams, presumably:
    *1Z0-007     Introduction to Oracle9i SQL*
    and
    *1Z0-042     Oracle Database 10g: Administration I*
    Can i take Oracle 11g Admin II I'm assuming that you are asking if you can take the following exam:
    *1Z0-053     Oracle Database 11g: Administration II*
    This exam is on a different track than 1Z0-042. The two cannot be combined for any certification.
    or i just have to completed Oracle 10g Admin II (Instructer Lead) exam To complete the Oracle 10G certification, you must pass the following exam:
    *1Z0-043     Oracle Database 10g: Administration II*
    The exam itself is not instructor-lead, so I don't know what you mean by that. In addition to passing the test, you must attend instructor-lead training. The courses valid for the 10G track can be found here:
    http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=244#2
    and the go for an upgrade to 11g ?Once you have your 10G certification, you can upgrade to having an 11G OCP certification by passing the following exam:
    *1Z0-050     Oracle Database 11g: New Features for Administrators*

  • Oracle.mobile.admin.ResourceManager

    There was a previous post of same kind of issues that I'm facing on this forum which was not answered from anyone.
    Compatible parameter
    * How to get (list) the snapshots on specific app?ResourceManager.listSnapshots("virtual path", platform) ==> is not working;
    * How to list the template variables on specific snapshot (and change them)?
    I am able to list the users and applications and get the virtual path of the applications but above questions (snapshots and template variables) are not resolved.
    Is there some 'features' on the web-to-go api or what could be the case?

    I found a couple of more same kind of problems that I'm facing.
    Re: Printing with Discoverer R1
    But the main thing still is that some of the methods of ResourceManager work and some dont which is confusing.
    For example following methods are working fine :
    ResourceManager.listUsers(null); ==> returns user ok
    ResourceManager.getDBCOnnectionSharing("/app_name"); ==> ok
    ResourceManager.listApplicationsByVP(null); ==> list apps ok
    ResourceManager.listSnapshots("/app_name",WINCE); ==> ok
    But for example method's
    ResourceManager.listTemplateVariables("/app_name", WINCE);
    ResourceManager.getTemplateVariables("/app_name",WINCE, "USERNAME");
    won't work.
    I'm debugging my application on wtgdebug (localhost on my workstation + PocketPC) and the error stack is :
    log3: java.lang.NullPointerException
    log3: at oracle.lite.sync.SiteDef.<clinit>(SiteDef.java:145)
    log3: at oracle.lite.sync.Consolidator.<clinit>(Consolidator.java:390)
    log3: at
    oracle.lite.web.resource.ResourceFactory.getInstance(ResourceFactory.java:73)
    log3: at oracle.mobile.admin.ResourceManager.<init>(ResourceManager.java:111)
    log3: at
    oracle.mobile.admin.ResourceManager.openConnection(ResourceManager.java:123)
    Do I have some configuration mistake somewhere (webtogo.ora)? Or why the api works only partly? The purpose why I need the snapshot template variables is that I have to sync between the main database and oracle lite dynamically, ie. I have to be able to select inside my code what I want to sync. If I understand it correctly the other way to do things is mSync program, which always syncs everything for the user (User cannot select the data that he wants to sync).

    Your expert suggestion is highly appriciated
    Thanks

    Connected to an idle instance.Idle Instance means the instance has not started.
    You can issue
