Plot in Mathematica

hello,
I was thinking of a way to run a Mathematica code from labview. The code is a simple ListPlot or Plot3d in mathematica.
Right now , I can open a mathematica notebook via LV ( using System Exec.vi ) and then have to insert the file path ( as shown in the code snippet below ) and then execute it.
What I want - Since I already know the path where the file is saved in LV, I can put that file path automatically to this code and just by click of a button , lets call " Plot in Mathematica " . I can get a plot.
Is there a way to do this.
test = Import["C:\\Users\\Raman\\Desktop\\XXXXXXX.csv"];
Z = Partition[Map[Last, test], Sqrt[Length[test]]]; ListDensityPlot[Z,
PlotRange -> All, ColorFunction -> GrayLevel, Mesh -> False,
PlotRange -> All]
 Best,
Abhi

Unless you can pass in parameters when you launch your workbook such that that they allow you to input the lines of code and run the code, you won’t be able to do what you are trying to do with System Exec.Basically, if Mathematica gives you the ability to do what you want in command prompt then chances are you will be able to do that with System Exec.
Some programs have an ActiveX server (Ex. Word and Excel). Using the properties and methods available with the server you can make changes to the document. If Mathematica has an ActiveX sever you might be able use it to accomplish what you are trying to do. However, you will have to know which methods and properties are available and how to use them.
There is a third party software which allows you to use Matemataica from within LabVIEW. For more information, take a look at this.

  • Pdf created with Mathematica 9 misses font in preview

    Dear all,
I have installed a new font called 'Arev Sans' in Regular, Italic and Bold face. It works fine in Keynote and Mathematica and all other programs so far. Now I did an Export of a plot in mathematica and tried to look at the created pdf with Preview. It turns out, that only the Italic and Bold fonts of Arev Sans are shown in the correct way. The Regular face is substituted by another font. Unfortunately this is the same if I try to include the plot in keynote, which is bad because I want to use the Arev font in my presentation. However, if I open the pdf with Acrobat Readrer the fonts are ok.
Does anyone have a suggestion what to do? Would be great!

    Back up all data.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and the support article linked below for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them, then boot in safe mode* (by holding down the shift key at the startup chime) to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.
    Mac 101: Font Book
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case only, after running Font Book, launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. After running the command, reboot as usual.

I did as you suggested and there are no errors after the valdiation with Font Book.
Yes Regular is listed against Arev.
Actually, the font works in Keynote and also in Mathematica. The problem occurs just when I do the Export from Mathematica and include the created pdf into Keynote (or likewise open it with Preview). It seems to me that there is an issue with the font coming from Mac Os...

    Hello BajaBoy,
I think it would be easiest to figure this out if I had the data to look at. If you can send this too me (I will treat this confidientially and it will be deleted after we got it to plot) please sned to me me directly at National Instruments.

  • How do you create stacked plots?

Okay, I have tried for quite some time today to create a stacked plot, but without any success.  I want to be able to put in a max and min range for the x-axis on the front panel.  This x-axis will be used for three different y-axis.  Each y-axis will have a different scale than the other ones.  Also, each y-axis will have up to 6 different plots.  I have attached an example of what I hope the final chart/graph/plot will look like.  I have tried combining the x-axis values with the different y-axis values in an array (2D) and then plotting them but nothing seems to work right.

Never had much success getting what I consider "publication quality" graphs out of LV, but that is not what it was built for.  It has a great looking GUI and the flexibility to get your data into a program to suit your needs.  Doesn't mean that there aren't some features we'd like to see added, especially when it comes to axes and labelling.  My advice to you is the following:
    1. take a deep breath and decide if this is something you really want to do.
    2.  perhaps try an in-between solution like stripping down the plots and stacking three XY graphs on top of each other.  You can programatically control the scales.  You won't have overlap of the plots like you show, and all of the labels will be on the left.
    3.  Try a standard XY graph and fudge the labels using Ben's very elegant trick. Ben is the go-to-guy (IMO) for picture control questions
    4.  Explore the Picture VIs to generate plots piece-by-piece.  You are in for a lot of work, but it is the only LV-only solution I know to get the results you are looking for.  (Perhaps there are new and exciting features in LV2009 that someone will enlighten us with).
    5.  Do what I do.  I use a MathLink connection to Mathematica when I need plots that I can't get easily in LV.  You can retrieve the graphics object and display it in a container or a picture control.  I use a picture control because the container seems to unload the image when I stop the VI.  If you don't have Mathematica, or similar program, sorry.

  • How can I plot spectal data?

I need to generate some plots of spectral data. In other words, I have data in a text file showing the reading for every 10nm (36 data points in all), I want to produce nicely formatted charts like the one below. Would you use the charting functions in Illustrator for this type of work, or a plug-in, or something else entirely? I do not have any mathematics software. I'm using CS4 on a Mac.

There is no plugin for graphs.
Have you tried the graph tools? Does it do what you like it to?
Which other software do you have then?
    Excel or OpenOffice Calc?
    Numbers? Keynote?

  • How can I represent more than one plot in an only one chart?

    Hello everyone,
i got a code where I don't understand how to represent more than two plots, with different scales each, in the same waveform chart.
    As brief review:
    * 2 adquisition data wired to Bundle
    * wire from Bundle to waveform chart.
    * options of th chart: stack plots.
I've tried to expand the Bundle but the problem is that I'm wiring a 3 element cluster to a 2element cluster chart. I don't understand how to upgrade the chart...
(there's the two plots in each chart)
(there's the code, where I've already tried expanding any bundle and wiring other signals, then wiring the bundle's output to the chart)
I think if I could add more scales, it will be possible to plot three plots on the same chart.
    Thank you for your time
    Marcelo A J

Since you are dealing with waveforms already, I think you actually want to have an array of waveforms to go into your chart.  You also need to map the plots to the scale that you want to use.  You can do that in the plot tab of the properties window.

  • How to get lab view to display my plot in DB

    hi guys
i desigED n an operational amplifier to determine the gain product band width using a 741 chip and the gain of the circuit is 1000, meaning that the gain bandwidth PRODUCT  will occur at a frequency of 100hz. but i have a problem, when i start the frequency sweep from the function generator from 10 hz to 100Khz which  IS the final frequency value i have set for the program. when the lab view program stops and i export the data to excel sheet i will be getting the DB axis value in a SMALL VALUES AND IN DIFFERENT  UNITES  WHEN I PLOT THE GRAPH USING EXCEL,  while the frequency is in log10.
pls can any one tell me how to solve this problem to start getting the right cut off  frquency on the graph. find aattched my vi and the excel data from the vi that is in a different unit not in DB

thanks Jeff Bohrer  for your reply, what i mean is the y-axs of the plot is in DB aleady, but when i export the data to excel i will be seeing the gain in 0.8, 0.7,0.4 which is not normal,  which will not give me the -3db point of the gainband width product of the circuit
What you want to do is plot the Log(10) of the frequency on a linear axis!!!!!!!  The export - exports the values not the axis scale.  exporting a log(10) of the Y axis will export the log of the axis- (of couse, you could change the graph axis scale in Excel too...... but)

    Hi rhiesnand,
right now you add 2 new rows to your array.
The solution is to concatenate both row parts to one bigger 1D array before adding that array as new row to your 2D array!

  • How to let the user define the colors for each plots in the graph (I use LabVIEW 7)?

How to let the user define the colors for each plots in the graph (I
    use LabVIEW 7)?

    Hi,
Take a look at this example, it uses property nodes to select tha
active plot and then changes the color of that plot.
If you want to make the number of plots dynamic you could use a for
loop and an array of color boxes.
    I hope this helps.

  • Plot a chart dynamically based on the values selected

    Hi All,
I have some requirement like this i want to plot a chart . The chart should change dynamically based on target_name and date. What type of UI should I use ? I tried using multiselect or shuttle for choosing the target_name and date picker tool for date once i choose all this the chart should appear. Can I have a custom button called submit so once all the values are entered it plots chart ? Please help me out with our ideas.
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi,
Using the dependent value sets you can govern the values which can be selected based on a specific value selected in a particular segment. Example if Country name is selected in segment 1 then specific states names as per the country selected can be displayed in segment 2.
As per the requirement described you want to enable different fields based on the value selected in segment1, currently there is no standard mechanism available to enable/disable fields based on a value and you will have to do an extension/customization to meet this requirement.
    Thanks,
    Sanjay

  • How do you make superscripts and mathematics in Preview's text annotation?

When adding text annotations that include scientific notations, how do you make superscripts, e.g. "3.2 × 10^{-23}"?
Searching Help for 'superscript' turns up nothing, suggesting the command does not exist, as it does under Baseline etc. in iWork. Please tell me this is not the case! If it is, has the situation been improved in the new operating system?
A related issue: I wish to include other mathematics -- is there a way to include mathematics similar to LaTeX? Might Preview incorporate using latex code in the future, so I can easily type "\exp{-\lambda t}" etc and have the math appear?
I'm adding text annotations to PDF lecture notes in Preview, basically filling in blanks the instructor has left so students will pay attention in class, and these annotations include superscripts; I wish to format properly.
    Thank you!

Once you have the circle shape displayed, long press on the border of the circle. Once it is highlighted, drag horizontally or vertically. This should allow you to distort the circle into an ellipse (or the square into a rectangle).
    Hope that helps,

  • Line width on plot and on plot legend not matching

    Hello,
I wrote a program that "highlights" (changes the linewidth to 4) one of two plots using a boolean switch.  However, the corresponding linewidth in the legend does not always show the same width as the plots value.  For example, if plot 0 is thick, and its legend is thick, and plot 1 and its legend are thin, then I select plot 1 to become the highlighted one, plot 1 in the graph will become thick, but either its legend will not become thick, or plot 0s will remain thick, while plot 0 on the actual graph will be switched to thin.
Thank you for any help you may be able to provide.

    Hi  M.Bobby,
I can see the same behavior on my machine as well. This was reported to R&D (238303 CAR ID) for further investigation. R&D is currently investigating this issue. A possible workaround is to hover over the legend to make it update.  We are sorry for the inconvenience, and appreciate your feedback!
Thanks and have a great day.

LabVIEW program is based on DATA FLOW, now, until the subVI will finish execution (while loop will be stopped), the execution in Main VI will not proceed any further.
If you can pass the reference of 'XY Graph' inside the subVI, you'll be able to update the plot (placed on MAIN VI) from within subVI.
Find attached example for your reference.
