Quick movements mess up my variables

I have an interactive map with multiple hotspots on it. When the user mouses over a hotspot (Button) a value is assigned to a variable (country). The actionscript (AS2) is also told to go to a frame performing a close sequence on the currently open animation.
so if userA has moused over Brazil the following AS is on the Brazil button:

once the timeline hits the last frame of the close sequence the following AS is on the last frame of the sequence:

(each country has a frame labeled for it on the timeline with an opening/hold/closing frame sequence.)
my problem arises if a user mouses over one country and in the middle of the 3 frame opening/closing sequence they quickly mouse over another country, it seems like the variables get 'screwed up.' the variable appears to lag, so when the user mouses over countryA, then countryB to countryC very quickly, countryB will be highighted and remain highlighted until i mouse over countryA again (and then it will go to countryC). [i know this is a bit confusing, but hopefully it makes sense to someone else]
does anyone have any suggestions on how to eliminate this issue? i only have 5 regions, and the file size of the swf is small (160kB), so I dont understand the lagging and breaking.

Well, /bin, and /usr/bin are in the basic PATH defined in /etc/profile, or at least they should be.
Unless you've modified your PATH settings in any way, and excluded those two default locations, they should work on reboot.

Quick movements on DVD movie has tracers and looks terrible

When I preview the movie before burning it everything looks fine. After I burn the DVD and view it, all quick movements look terrible... horizontal lines and tracers. Please help!

Previewing a movie is simply a "link" to the uncompressed movie you have made. iDVD will compress this to MPEG 2 for DVD playback. It seems many are not happy with iDVDs compression schemes... HOWEVER, quick movements are the bane of any MPEG compression with any software. Although some software will be better than others. Why is motion difficult? DV, NTSC, is 29.97 frames per second. Basically 30 still images/second. This equates to 13GB/hour. Keep in mind that a SL DVD holds roughly 4.3GB. For playback on tabletop DVD players your material must be compressed to the MPEG 2 format (which also always it to fit on a DVD). MPEG 2 takes one reference picture about every 15 frames and then only records the motion difference between frames. So you go from almost 30 frames/second down to two with motion difference. So anything that has a lot of motion is very difficult for any MPEG compression because of the nature of the compression. If these are quick pans & zooms, I would suggest a more controlled pan & zoom. If the camera isn't on a tripod, I would suggest using a tripod. You could also make a disc image prior to burning the DVD and the disc image will actually be the compressed version as opposed to just previewing the sequence in iDVD.

Best Settings For Video With Quick Movements?

The video project I'm working on contains a lot of quick movements. When I try exporting it into a Quicktime file, most of the video looks fine, but any of the quick motions have a strange choppiness to them that I've never seen before. The choppiness exists only in the isolated areas of the movement.
What settings would you recommend? I have tried numerous. Or has something gone wrong with my Final Cut Express HD?

Try the Deinterlace Filter on the dodgy bits. I can't promise it will work but it's worth trying.
Effects>Video Filters>Video>De-interlace.

Quickly move selected mail to a folder

I am looking to quickly move selected mail messages to a given folder. I know of command-option-t but this will use the destination of the last time I moved a message. I want a constant, always the same destination. I tried to remap the delete-key to move to a folder instead of to the trash but that did not work. I tried to specify a menu name (Message->Move To->foldername), but this also did not work (because the menu item has an icon and not just a name?).
Anyway, any clever ideas around?

I love MsgFiler for this purpose. (I guess that's shorthand for "Message Filer.") It allows me to use keystrokes to access any mailbox. With a message selected, I type "command 1" to bring up MsgFiler, then type in a few letters of the mailbox I want. When it comes up on a list, I can hit "return" to send the message to that mailbox -- simple! Other options include being able to copy to selected mailboxes and opening selected mailboxes through similar easy keystrokes. I love it, and use it to keep my hundreds of messages a day filed properly. Great deal for $8! (I have no affiliation, I'm just a fan.) Here's a link to the site:

Nattress effect is giving me "blur" during quick moves

I'm relatively new to film effects. I've been working with the natrress film effects, specifically G-film, and I'm getting a strange "blur" or "ghosting" during quick moves. Specifically a character is sitting in a chair and shifts forward to the left and then to the right and back and it looks "odd", giving that ghosting or blurring look I mentioned. I've read through the forums and also googled for the last few days and can't seem to figure out how to stop it.
The footage I'm editing was shot with a Canon XL-2 at 30p. I'd like to get it to 24p since Nattress is recommended as a really great prgoram to do this. Any help that can be provided would be very appreciated.

Film Effects is for the look of 24p while keeping your timeline as 29.97fps interlaced (60i). It's 24p is also only for interlaced material - not progressive material which you have.
I don't recommend you shoot 30p if the end goal is 24p as all conversions I've seen have not been what I'd call successful. 30p is a rather strange format in that it is neither the video standards of 60i or 60p, nor the film standard of 24p. It sits between them all and is relatively incompatible with both PAL framerates of 25p and 50i, and the Film rate of 24p.
For 30p footage the best thing you can do to it is leave it well alone - don't alter it's frame rate at all. You can try compressor, or optical flow solutions in Shake or After Effects, or Nuke or whatever, but I've not seen fully successful results.

How many files, and what total size?
To move ALL your files from an old Mac, you would use Migration Assistant, using either an Ethernet or Firewire connection. It's not quick, though.
To move just a few, you COULD put the old Mac into target mode (reboot it while holding T, and connect a Firewire cable, with Thunderbolt adaptor on the new end if need be). Or you could just copy them via an external (probably USB, for compatibility) drive or flash drive, formatted Mac Extended.

Video smears in quick movements

Hi.
I want to show a camera attached to a USB device in realtime
at 800x600 pixels with the highest quality.
the app is on local machine only so there's no bandwidth
consideration but it must be realtime with no delay.
My problem is that when i show the video, the pictures
"smears" on quick movements as you can see here

there are lines on the video.
I've tried to change the framerate, quality, keyframes....
Any thoughts? I have seen it work much better in the
snowflakes expample and the human torch but there's no source code
for that...

It's not actually smearing but what we call field mush. The
tiny horizontal
lies you see. Though video plays at 30 fps, there are really
60 fields ( odd
and even) captured. the picture you see is an intermixed
result of the two.
It is possible that some of the software that you are using
has settings
that you can adjust; one of which is for the treatment of
these fields. For
instance, in AfterEffects, you can interpret the footage file
choosing odd
field first, even field first or no fields. Odd and Even
fields are
sometimes call Upper and Lower fields. On the technical side,
things are
never simple or so it seems.

WebOS quick install messing up Outlook 2010

I tried to install the WebOS Quick Install from the instructions posted.
First of all, the instructions do not quite reflect reality. Some setup options were in different places and the software has been moved.
Once installed I was unable to install any Apps on my Pre. The USB transfer failed with some message that I neglected to write down. Something about a bad block or a full memory. Thats one issue but it is not what this post is about.
I did this at work and my PC suddenly stopped displaying images in Outlook 2010 after going though the installation. Instead it would show a little red X. I didn't make the connection to WebOS Quick Install until I tried installing it on my home PC. Now its Outlook 2010 won't display pictures either. I've un-installed Java and Novacom but Outlook is still messed up.
Has anyone else had similar problems?

I am having an issue when I try to create a WEBI document using Bex query through OLAP connection (Bics).
Due to variables exit, it is not possible to open query pannel in webi to choose wich dimensions to add to the webi document.
The window to select dimensions simply does not appear and I can't move forward!
In RSRT ou Bex Analyzer, the query is running fine without errors.

I solved it.
The problem was due to date coming to exit - as you know some time intervals start at 01-01-1000, and as I was calculating 1000-1 = 999
I was getting and interval from 99901 to 201405. Do not know if it was not working because CHAR NUMC6 was failing trying to recognize interval 99901 - 201405, but probably, this was the issue.

Are there Keyboard shortcuts for Mail? How to quickly move items?

I just came from Entourage, which I was happy to leave. However I have a ton of folders where I organize my emails after I read them in my inbox. I really miss the "Move" button in the Entourage toolbar, which allowed me to start typing the name of folder I wanted to move an email to.
With Mail I have to go and find the destination folder, which is sometimes 5 levels deeps. Yikes! It does seem quicker to do it in the Message menu, but still it's clumsy.
Any tips? Any keystrokes? New to Mail and loving it!

You can bypass the Message menu and Control-click on a message or group of messages, then select the Move To item from the contextual menu and select the folder from there.

Movie refuses to load variables from text file

Hi,
I'm sure you can solve my newbie problem in less than 1
minute...
I'm pulling my hair out on a template I bought 2 days ago
from templatemonster.com
I am using Flash 8 Pro.
All I want to do is change an existing textfield that is
Static to Dynamic and load variables from a text file.
The Action Script I use to do so comes directly from
Macromedia documentation (see attached)
It works fine when I create a brand new movie, but doesn't do
anything when inserted into the template.
It doesn't even complain about not finding the text file if I
rename or delete it!
Here are the FLA and text file:

The textfield I would like to change is in the txt2 symbol.
Here is how I proceed:
When I open HEADER.FLA, Flash tells me I'm missing a font,
ok, so I click on Use Default, I'll deal with this later.
I open up the Movie Explorer, go to Layer 30, go to Frame 75
and click once on txt2
I name the instance "myMovie_mc" and save (converts from
Flash MX to Flash 8)
I double-click on the Movie Clip, select the word
"Automobile" on the Stage, change from Static to Dynamic and call
that instance "myText_txt"
Still in the Movie Clip, I create a new layer I call
"actions", and in Frame 1 I copy the attached Action Script:
This script works when I create a new flash file, but it does
absolutely nothing in this template.
I know I'm doing something wrong, but I wonder what?

Trying to get a target to a movie stored to a variable

hope i can make myself undestandable
i have several movieclips in flash that are being trigged by
clicking on them
i'm using 2 variables to store what movieclip is playing and
another to store it's path. in the main timeline i declare them and
make the 2nd to evalute as a path, using eval(). this works fine,
but when i try to use this when i click on the movieclip, the eval
dosen't work, making my 2nd variable evaluting to undefined...

very specific about targeting em...for eg u r using _root.variavel
= b; in on(Release) the flash wont understand that...either write
_root.variavel = _root.b or _root.variavel = this.b...change
ur movie clip code to the following code n u r done
