Required Packages For Database Install

I'm installing a new 11.2.0.3 database on RHEL 6.3 64-bit tomorrow and I've got the base installation done and I've followed the following doc. to verify my Linux system has all the appropriate packages however in order to run the OUI (Oracle Universal Installer), I'm told I have to have X11 running on the server and be able to forward the session to my workstation so I can initiate the install over SSH. I just honestly have no idea what the package names or what it is I need to run X11 or X-Windows on my RHEL server. I don't want to install Gnome / X11 since Gnome is completely useless and a huge overhead on a server. I will always run the server in run level 3 (command line interface).
Do you guys know the specific package names or what I need to look for in order to X11 working for OUI?

**UPDATE**
I adjusted the 'oracle' users' DISPLAY environment variable as suggested per the docs and attempted to run the installer again:

*localhost:10.0*
[oracle@db1 ~]$ export DISPLAY=local_host:0.0
[oracle@db1 ~]$ echo $DISPLAY
*local_host:0.0*
[oracle@db1 ~]$ cd /u01/app/oracle/database/
[oracle@db1 database]$ ./runInstaller

  • Required packages for sconadm

    Hello,
Could someone please post a list of required packages to register a LPS using sconadm through an http proxy. I am using a 6/06 sparc build based on the "Reduced Network Core" cluster.
I cannot find the info in any documentation and not everybody installs every package on the distribution CD's. So far I have found 13 authentication-type packages and their prerequisites. Doesn't that seem a little ridiculous? Why doesn't sconadm's package have the pre-req packages defined?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

I am a long-time avid Sun evangelist, but I have to say, this issue with the patches have given me the greatest headache I have ever had from Sun.
I really wish you would go back to allowing us to download at least the minimum recommended clusters until you figure this whole patch management thing out. (ie: 10_Recommended.zip). It was a VERY easy way for us System Administrators to keep all of our systems on the same rev level and on our own schedule.
Anyways, the lists here seem to be correct except for ONE missing package, at least on the 06/06 release of Solaris 10.
I was still hanging running the 'sconadm register -a -r /tmp/reg' until I added the package 'SUNWjdmk-base'
After installing that package along with the others listed above I was able to get my 'SUNWCreq' cluster to install and register using sconadm. I do have other packages installing, so I cannot guarantee that there is not other dependancies.
Here is a full list of additional packages I'm installing as part of my Jet build (SUNWCreq+):
    base_config_profile_add_packages="SUNWtoo SUNWxwplr SUNWxwfnt SUNWxwplt SUNWxwic
e SUNWxwrtl SUNWmfrun SUNWj3rt SUNWj5rt SUNWj5rtx SUNWppror SUNWpprou SUNWxcu4 SUNWppro-plugin-sunos-base SUNWccccfg SUNWccccr SUNWccccrr SUNWccsign SUNWcctpx SUNWgm4 SUNWgmake SUNWbindr SUNWbind SUNWctpls SUNWscpu SUNWgtar SUNWsshcu SUNWsshdr SUNWsshdu SUNWsshr SUNWsshu SUNWdoc SUNWman SUNWbash SUNWmysqlr SUNWmysqlu SUNWntpr SUNWntpu SUNWwgetr SUNWgcmn SUNWwgetu SUNWtcpd SUNWbinutils SUNWscpr SUNWpl5u SUNWhea SUNWapchr SUNWapchu SUNWapchd SUNWaclg SUNWopensslr SUNWopenssl-commands SUNWopenssl-include SUNWopenssl-man SUNWsensor SUNWsensorr SUNWscnsomr SUNWscnsom SUNWsamr SUNWsam SUNWscn-base-r SUNWscn-base SUNWcacaort SUNWscnprmr SUNWscnprm SUNWccfw SUNWccfwctrl SUNWccinv SUNWcsmauth SUNWbrg SUNWlur SUNWadmfr SUNWadmfw SUNWadmc SUNWluu SUNWpoolr SUNWpool SUNWluzone SUNWzoner SUNWzoneu SUNWipfh SUNWj3dev SUNWjato SUNWjhrt SUNWjhdev SUNWmctag SUNWtcatu SUNWmconr SUNWmcon SUNWmcosx SUNWmcos SUNWpsvrr SUNWpsvru SUNWjdmk-base"
    I hope this helps!
Sun, just remember, most of your boxes are "Servers" and any Sys. Admin worth his weight, will not install a User cluster on their server and there are plenty of us small/medium size business that aren't ready to move up to a full N1 implementation and only manage < 20 servers.

I am trying to install iTunes on my PC (using Windows 8.1), but I get this error: "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. What seems to be the problem? Help!

  • I get the errer message "There is a problem with this windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run."

I have Wondows Vista... I tried to upgrade to Itunes 10.5, and received an error orginially stating that I was trying to install a version older than the one I had.  I uninstalled all of itunes, and now I'm getting the error  message "there is a problem with this windows installer package.  Aprogram required for this install to complete could not be run.
Help!  I have an IPhone, and I would like to get my Itunes upgraded so I can download the new Iphone software...
    Thanks!

I have been in touch with Apple support in reference to my problem. We went through every solution available, and found no fix. The tech then suggested I contact Microsoft concerning this issue. I thought that suggestion was just to get me pointed somewhere but Apple. Boy was I wrong!! I contacted Microsoft, and was directed to a free download called Microsoft Fix. This program fixed something in the regisitor, and wala everything was fixed!! I now have I-Cloud and I-Tunes loaded and working well. So, if you can't install Apple Software and are running Window 7 you might give Microsoft Fix a try, it fixed my problem.....

  • I am trying to upload itunes 10.5, but get a message "There is a problem with this Window Installer Pkg. A program required for this install to complete could not be run.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor".  What is it I need to do?

I am trying to install itunes 10.5, but during the download I get the following message, "There is a problem with this Window Installer Package.  A program required for this install to complete could not be run.  Contact your support personanal or package vendor."  If this is my personal computer and was able to upgrade to the previous version (pre 10.5), why not now?  What is my "package vendor"? And what is it I need to do to fix this?  The message is unclear.  Unfortunately, I deleted my itunes program, thinking that in doing so, 10.5 would finally load.  Now I have no itunes on my computer and unable to sync my iphone.  Help!
    Thanks - Rick

    Hi Rick,
by "repair" I mean I went to the control panel, option - programs and features, and in the list of all my installed programs I selected "Apple Software Update". On top of the screen you find the options Uinstall, Change and Repair. I clicked the repair button and that did the trick. After the repair I could uninstall the program. I also uninstalled iTunes, Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support en Bonjour, thus all Apple programs. Then I installed iTunes 10.5 again and everything went fine.
    Success,
    Peter

when trying to setup itunes on my pc i get the following message: there is a problem with this Windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. How could I solve this problem?

    Repair your Apple software update.
Go to START/ALL PROGRAMS/Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install
If you don't find ASU, go to Control Panel:
    START/CONTROL PANEL/Programs n Features/highlight ASU and click REPAIR,

Not able to access Itunes store anymore.  Just quit working for no reason.  I've tried deleting Itunes and related components from the Control Panel, but when I try to remove Apple Software Update, I get a message that states "There is a problem with this Windows installer package.  A program required for this install to complete could not be run.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor".  Not sure what this message means.  Am I suppose to contact Apple ?  What is meant by package vendor ?

Apparently it's an itunes issue. I just tried to update and got the same issue. Called att to activate my iphone 4s and they say they can do the swap but apple is telling them itunes is down atm.  So will have to wait

I just try to install the setup download from apple website for iTune and iCloud.
During the installation, there was error message prompt out "There is a problem with this Windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."

I have also tried extracting the individual components to the temp file and attempting to install them individually despite being unable to remove the previous install of Apple Software Updater.  The outcome, both Apple Software Updater and itunes encountered the same error message during the install process.

Perhaps let's first try updating your Apple Software Update.
Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Does it launch and offer you a newer version of Apple Software Update? If so, choose to install just that update to Apple Software Update. (Deselect any other software offered at the same time.)
If the ASU update goes through okay, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the errors this time?

I tried to install iTunes 10.5 this morning but an error appeared saying "problem with windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run." Can someone please help

Firstly, are you installing iTunes for the first time or are you updating your current version of iTunes?
If you're installing iTunes for the first time have you tried redownloading the installer package? Perhaps the file you downloaded originally is corrupted...
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/
If you've tried that, then try installing iTunes as your computer's administrator. To do this right-click the install package and choose "Run as administrator".
If you're updating iTunes to the most recent version try repairing the Apple Software Update program on your computer. It's under the add/remove programs.
    1. Open the control panel
    2. Open Add/Remove programs (called "Programs and Features" in Windows 7)
    3. Navigate to "Apple Software Update" in the list and click on it
    4. Click on "Change" then select "Repair" (or just select the repair option in Windows 7)
Once you repair this, try running iTunes and the update again.
    Fingers crossed!
