Shockwave content loading

I've built a shockwave presentation that is made up of a
number of
movies, external cast cst files and even an externally linked
JPG image
as my background image.
I'd like some advice on how I should set up my shared
components so that
they load up in the right order and the most efficiently.
The problem I've experienced after making everthing shockwave
was that
my background image loaded late so had buttons appearing on a
black
background. I then imported my JPG into a shared external
cast file
(sing standad import). Still seemed to load in the wrong
order.
So, what can I do to ensure my content loads in the right
order?
And where shoudl i put my background image so that it is not
reloaded
every time a new you jump to a new movie?
Thanks.

First off I would build a "loading..." screen of some sort.
Second, use preloadNetThing() to load all external items you
need in the order you like. Then move forward in the project.
Hope that helps.

  • Pre Director 11 Shockwave Content breaking

    ALL Director developers should read this:
    http://www.adobedirectoronline.com/tutorials/tutorial_backwardCompatability.php
    If you do not (at the minimum) make changes to the page
    containing your shockwave file, the content will break. You must
    include the playerVersion="10" parameter in your embed/object tags
    or the shockwave loader screen appears and nothing ever loads
    This is a major departure from how Macromedia handled
    Director updates. Under Macromedia backwards compatibility was an
    important feature for both platforms. Under Adobe not only are we
    forced to make edits so that pre Director 11 content is supported,
    the backwards compatibility is supported on WINDOWS only!
    For this reason I am no longer recommending that customers
    update to shockwave 11 until Adobe corrects this problem for all
    platforms and resumes backwards compatibility for older Director
    content. The temporary fix instituted by the team in Bangalore is
    serving to undermine the Director community's breadth of existing
    content that by and large is still ahead of its time. Also there
    appear to be other bugs introduced into the content so this
    developer is converting shockwave content to downloadable
    executables for the Mac platform.

    SO far I have not even found a system (MAC or PC) where the
    compatibility operation actually succeeds. The plugin simply goes
    to a screen where it says the compatibility components are
    downloading and then just hangs. THis is historically the first
    release of shockwave that I recall where an update actually breaks
    so much prior contentcompletely. Setting the playerVersion=10
    pretty much guarantees a hanging request for compatibility
    components that dont appear to exist/never download and playing the
    content as sw11 introduces so many bugs that 3d content is
    unplayable.
    There is a fortunately a fall back position. Write a
    Javascript detection scheme to check for sw11 and deny viewing
    saying they have an incompatible plugin and need to uninstall and
    download player 9.0.0.034 available on the adobe site here:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_18629&sliceId=1
    This of course makes it impossible to adopt the new sw11
    platform for authoring. However content authored in Dir MX (version
    10) is compatible with plugin version 9.0.0.034
    Macromedia left quite a high standard on compatibilty issues
    that Adobe seems to fall severely short of the mark on. I guess we
    know what to expect from here on out.

  • Why are my Content Load images -- Exceptions settings not saved?

    I designate certain sites as exceptions under Content > Load images automatically. The next time I open Firefox, those exceptions are not there.
    This also happens under Privacy > Accept cookies from sites. The exceptions that I put in disappear the next time I open Firefox.
    How can I make these exceptions permanent?

    In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
    *do not clear the Site Preferences
    *Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
    Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
    You can inspect and manage the permissions for all domains on the <b>about:permissions</b> page or for the current domain via the "Site Identity Button" (globe/padlock) on the location bar and click "More Information" to open "Page Info" and go to the Permissions tab.

  • Controlling shockwave content (dcr) from a web page using javascript

    Hi,
    Is it possible to control shockwave content (dcr; object="application/x-director") from a web page using javascript?
    I believe this is possible using 'FSCommand' in Flash...
    I'd like to use HTML to do something like:
    - html_object[1].go(10);
    to send playback to frame 10.
    Thanks.
    Mark

    Sean,
    Thanks - this is exactly what I was looking for.
    'Shockingly' difficult ( pun intended :-)
    Someone really put in some effort on this.
    Very creative solution, putting a flash ( swf ) component in a director project and communicating indirectly through the flash element.
    Apparently, Javascript can communicate with the SWF file & the SWF file can communicate with the DCR file, but it is not possible to have Javascript communicate directly with the DCR. Too bad.
    After looking over this example I think I'll rethink my project.
    Thanks again.

  • Spry Tabbed panels content loading

    Hello,
    I have created a tabbed interface, it looks good, however the
    content in some tabs it is a little heavy on some internet
    connections.
    Is there a way to load the content of each tab separately?
    What i wanted to do is for each tab content to load only if
    the user clicks on the tab, this way the start page will load much
    faster. With the current settings all the content on all tabs loads
    at the same time. Did not find anything on sprytabbedpanels.css
    that could do this.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks in advance.

  • In an iFrame, content loads only after a refresh

    I have this website
    www.paidly.co
    In it, there is an iFrame. Now this loads perfectly fine in Chrome, and IE but in Firefox only the html content is shown, without any CSS or JS applied. On reloading the frame, I randomly get the entire loaded document sometimes and at other times it is not so. The code for the iframe looks like this:<br />
    <pre><nowiki><iframe class="iphone-content" src="Mobile/main.html"> </iframe></nowiki></pre>
    The page that is being called is this:
    <pre><nowiki><!doctype html>
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Paidly</title>
    <meta charset="utf-8">
    <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="http://code.jquery.com/mobile/1.3.2/jquery.mobile-1.3.2.min.css">
    <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.10.1.min.js"></script>
    <script src="http://code.jquery.com/mobile/1.3.2/jquery.mobile-1.3.2.min.js"></script>
    </head>
    <body> ... </body>
    </html></nowiki></pre>

    I need to right-click in the frame and choose Reload Frame to make the frame display properly.<br />
    Maybe it is because the frame is hidden that Firefox isn't loading the CSS and JS files.

  • Flash Player / Content Loading Issues

    A big hello to anyone kind enough to read this!... Hopefully someone can can help me out or point me in the right direction.
    The company that I am currently contracting for is involved in the testing of a number of pieces of Flash courseware that one of our associated companies have created. It has been authored in Flash CS3, but uses Actionscript 2.0. The user's target platform is Flash player 9 on Windows XP.
    While testing the latest version through Flash player 9 (ActiveX within IE 7) we have discovered that the external movieclip loading does not work correctly, with the movie clips appearing in random location on some PC's, but no on others....
    ..To add even more strange-ness to this, if we right-click and select the "About Flash Player" menu option, wait for the Adobe web page to load, close the courseware window and re-launch it while the Adobe web page is still open in another browser, then the courseware runs fine.
    Just wondering if anyone out there has run into similar problems? We are currently experimenting with various IE settings and other security issues such as MMS.cfg and Trust Files, but at the minute we have to admit we are stuck.
    Attached are some images illustrating what is going: "correct_load.png" is when it works as it should do and "incorrect_load" is what it looks like when the troubles start.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the advice..  At this point it's like banging our heads against a brick wall..
    Strangely enough on some machines the problem does not seem to happen at all.  We have tried four PCs so far and two have worked, two have failed.  On the machines that failed to run it correctly we have recently uninstalled Flash Player 9 ActiveX and installed the latest Flash Player 10 ActiveX.
    The same problem is present on the machines, despite the fact we have added the C:\path\to\content path to settings in the Settings Manager.
    We have also added both Global and User Trust Files with the same path and an all-encompassing "C:\", which we know that the customer's machines will have limited installation rights and no access to the internet.  On the machines that do run the courseware, they do not either have the local paths as entries on the Settings Managers or in any kind of Trust File.  The only difference is that the machines that run the courses are machines that have a full version of Flash (either 8 and/or CS3) installed on them, but I can not see any reason while this would have an effect?
    Like you mention, it would be a good place to start looking at the loading line by line - however, the Manchester branch of the group have pretty much refused to give us access the *.fla files (it's a (barely) working relationship between us, not really one built on trust).  I'll pass on your ideas and leave it up to them I think!  It would be sensible if we did have FireFox v. IE testing, but most unhelpfully, FireFox is on the list of "controlled applications" and so we can't use it here.
    Anyway, thanks for the reply and help.  I was curious to see what effect having the Adobe page open had on the player, since with previous Flash content we as a company and myself personally have produced have not encountered anything like this.

  • How do I close content loaded in IE from Cornerstone OnDemand?

    My organization has recently transitioned into the Cornerstone OnDemand system and I've found that when you launch a Captivate training within IE, the close button doesn't work and neither does any button set to the Exit action. If you launch the training in FireFox or Chrome then the close button works correctly, it's just IE that has the problem. (Although in Chrome the exit button doens't activate right away.) I've found that this js code works for FireFox and Chrome when modifying the DoCPExit() coding in the Utilties.js file due to the change Adobe made in CP6.
    function DoCPExit()
        if(window != window.parent && window.parent && window.parent.hasOwnProperty("DoCPExit"))
            window.parent.DoCPExit();
        else
            window.parent.close();
    The attached images show the HTML code that's running the content when it's loaded in FireFox, which is the top image, and IE, which is the lower image. (Sorry for the tall IE grab as the code view had the extra div after the id="CaptivateContent" div.
    The solution at the moment is to disable the Captivate close button so it doesn't show in the nav bar.

    Hello ,
    Instead of that you can use a button on last slide of your project to close the project window
    Insert 3 buttons or smart shape used as buttons (as Finish course buttons).
    On the first button apply an action to execute javascript and in the script window, use this script: parent.close()
    On the second button apply an action to execute javascript and in the script window, use this script: top.window.close()
    On the third button, execute a standard action and assign "cpCmndExit" (system variable) with 1.
    Then publish the course and upload it to your LMS and check whether any one of these work for you?
    Then in the final project you can use that button which works in previous step
    Thanks.

  • "unusual" content loading

    I'm building a site which would include a number of items
    (sheets) under one section. In order to keep a user attracted,
    instead of making one SWF file including these sheets which would
    then be loaded into this section, I was thinking how to load each
    sheet separately...one will have like 50kB so once it's done, it
    will slide in and then another when it's loaded and another and
    another....let's say I will have like 20-40 pieces of these, so
    does that mean I would have to do 20-40 holders etc. to load them
    separately?? I guess not...don't know how though...
    I was thinking what about doint something like doing it all
    in one file and only export it for ActionScript (not in the 1st
    frame) and then only take it/load it from the library when it's
    needed... is there a way how to do it somehow like this?
    Cheers
    L.

    You could push each loaded clip into an array of loaded clips
    if you're keeping them in memory and not removing them after
    they've been displayed.
    But the basic premise with the event driven approach is to
    use a counting variable, which is incremented each time a
    onLoadInit happens and just quit the loading cycle once you reach
    the total number of clips. I think cbeech/clbeech gave an example
    post here recently about this.
    If the loaded clips themselves load other content e.g. videos
    etc it could get a bit complicated.
    Re your other comment.
    If pretty much everything else is the same, you could just
    use a single xml file to define the differences between the
    'sheets' then, which would include the external flvs to load. So
    you would have one swf which 'renders' the sheet based on the xml
    definition for each sheet and handles the loading of the video.
    [Based on your description this is the approach I would use.]
    XML can be structured to suit whatever your needs are...e.g.
    something like:
    <sheets>
    <sheet>
    <title>Name of this sheet to appear in a
    textfield</title>
    <description>If required, more detailed info to appear
    below the video</description>
    <videoURL>thissheetflv.flv</videoURL>
    </sheet>
    <sheet>
    [repeated as many times as needed with different data inside
    for each sheet]
    </sheet>
    </sheets>
    If you don't know how to do this and it seems logical as an
    option, then you could check out some xml video playlist tutorials.
    It can take a while to get your head around accessing the xml data
    from inside flash... but it does fall into place eventually.

  • Business content load data from multiple clients

    Hi Experts,
    we are implementing Business Content for FI-GL. On the system there is already the content enabled and the extraction from one client (let's say Client200). We now have to extract data from Client300. How can we do that?
    Thanks in advance,
    Costi

    You should create another Source system on the other client and copy the transfer rules from the extractor mapping them on the other source system . After this you can create the infopackage and load data
    hope it helps

    I have an iframe loaded with a flash content inside, and i have to resize the iframe while browser window width changes. So i tried changing transform:scale() property on different media query cut-offs. But unfortunately firefox makes the flash content disappear while applying transform-scale property. Is there any way to overcome this?

    Sorry, i don't know how to visualize this. I can paste a sample code here, will it help?
