Should we really go for bean data controls for a new project?

Hi,
I am still new data controls and trying to figure out the advantages of using bean data controls for our new project. Our UI is going to have customized UI components and our back end is going to be a tcp/ip server.
Is it a good idea to develop java beans and then create data controls to bind to UI layer? I think it makes sense to use data controls if we want to use existing java beans. Maybe we would be separating the model layer by using data controls, but only thing it would be doing for us would be the simple object calls to my java beans. Would it be better to use data controls or use I choose to make object calls?
Thanks,
Manoj

Hi,
the POJO data control will always give you a benefit and develope productivity, unless what you have to build fits on a single page - in which case you may not mind the burdon of manual UI component binding

  • Clear all rows in a Bean Data Control

    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.6
In my use case I have a screen that interacts with a Bean Data Control I have followed the steps in the following URL to create a Bean Data Control
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E18941_01/tutorials/jdtut_11r2_36/jdtut_11r2_36.html
My screen successfully interacts with the Bean Data Control. This screen lives in a Bounded Task Flow (BTF). I can add rows using a Create Insert binding and can delete Rows as well. Once the user gets all rows into the Bean Data Control that they want inserted to a DB table, I can iterate through the Bean Data Control and post those records to the DB. It is possible for the users to add rows to the Bean Data Control and then link to a brand new screen which is in a different BTF which leaves rows in the Bean Data Control. Now the user goes back to the original screen. Upon returning, I want to empty (clear all rows) for the Bean Data Control so that they have a fresh start. Could you please provide guidance on what I might need to do to be able to clear a Bean Data Control when entering a BTF

    Hi,
You can create a method to clear your Bean Data Control and call it with an invokeAction with property refresh="ifNeeded" and refreshCondition="#{pageFlowScope.isTimeToClearAll}", so pageFlowScope.isTimeToClearAll must be true only when you need to clear the BDC.

  • UI Hints for JavaBean Data Controls

According to the new features for 11.1.2, "Bean data control metadata management improvements now only generate xml if needed (sparse xml)".
Oracle JDeveloper and Oracle ADF 11g Release 2 (11.1.2.x): New Features (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/jdev-11gr2-nf-404365.html)
So long story short, the JavaBean xml is not generated any longer. Instead, by going through the DataControls.dcx, you can create a PDefViewObject xml that will allow you to edit, among other things, UI hints.
    Tutorial: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E18941_01/tutorials/jdtut_11r2_36/jdtut_11r2_36.html
In previous releases, I have been able to edit the 'precision' of an attribute within the JavaBean xml.
<Attribute Name="address" Type="java.lang.String" Precision="40"/>However, the PDefViewObject xml appears to not allow you to edit the 'precision'. Display Width, yes, but not Precision.
When using the Expression Builder while building a ADF jspx, precision is still a selectable hint.
#{bindings.site.hints.precision}So, how do I set this value in 11.1.2?

Thank you for the reply; unfortunately, I have tried those steps. An xml file is created but it is a PDefViewObject, which does not have the precision parameter, not a JavaBean.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="windows-1252" ?>

How do I get around it?

  • GoldenGate for Big Data 12c for Win x64?

I was looking for the GoldenGate for Big Data download for Win x64 and all I found on edelivery was Linux, Solaris, HP-UX and AIX platforms, but no Windows at all (see the screenshot below). I wonder if it's been released yet? Or, is it just an unfortunate omission?
    Thanks
    Andy

    Thanks, for your reply, Karan!
I tried following your advice, but bumped into yet another similar problem. I've installed OGG 12c and now I can't seem to be able to find the matching version of the GG Application Adapters for JMS and Flat File for the Win x64 platform. The latest version of Application Adapter available on edelivery is 11.1.1.0.0 which means I need to downgrade OGG to the same version. No big deal but I wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything.
I wonder if anybody has any idea as to whether Application Adapters 12c for JMS and Flat File is available for the Win x64 platform, and if so, where can I download it from?
    Thanks

  • Managed Beans vs. POJO Data Control for sharing data

    Hi,
I am currently using JAX-WS proxy client and POJO Data Controls to retrieve data from web services. This data needs to be shared across users. Normally I would use application scoped managed beans for this, but since I prefer using data controls and the binding layer, would using static POJO Data Control classes achieve the same thing?

    Hi,
Data Controls don't exist across user sessions so in your use case use a managed bean in application scope. If you want to make this available from a Data Control
    - create a POJO
    - Use EL in the POJO to access the managed bean
    - Create a DataControl from the POJO
This way the Data Control exposes the data as an API but itself always reaches out to the managed bean as a data store/cache

  • Scope of java class used for building data control

    Hello,
I have tried a sample application where in we are using Datacontrols to render the UI.
The data control is generated off a simple java class(abc.java) which is used to render a "Page called - Employee". This java class then uses a session bean which in turn talks with the database entities. The database entities(POJO's - employee.java) are then exposed in the abc.java and used to display data on the UI such as employee name, id , etc.
My question is regarding the scope of abc.java. I presume, that the constructor of this class will be called when the page is rendered.
Now say i am navigating from some Page-A to Page-Employee. On click of a button in Page A, i want to go to the Database, retrieve a particular employee's details and then place it in the employee entity exposed in abc.java so that it gets displayed when Page-Employee is rendered.
If the actionlistener method of the button click in Page A has the code of - 1)create new instance of abc - new abc() 2)retrieve employee entity 3) set employee entity in the class level attribute of abc
But on going to the next page-employee, a new instance of abc is getting created and i am losing the employee that i had retrieved in the previous screen.
Is there a scope for abc that can be set somewhere similar to managed beans? or is there some other solution.
    -thanks

    Hi,
Say, on an 'employee create page' we use data controls which are generated from a java class, 'EmployeeService'.
This java class has the POJO(entity) - Employee whose attributes like name, description are used to create input text boxes on the employee page.
Now, assume we come to the Employee create page from some other page in the application; where exactly is the best place to make an instance of the employee entity.
Do we place- Employee emp = new Employee(); in the constructor of the EmployeeService.java class or is there some other way?
    Any pointers would help.
    Thanks

  • Tutorials for MVC, Data Controls, and Data Bindings

I am looking for some good tutorials on:
    Model View Controller concept
Creating Data Controls from Java Beans
    Creating and Using Data Bindings
We are using JDeveloper, but do not want to use ADF as we want more control than ADF offers.
    Thanx
    Pam

Just curious, what control do you need that ADF doesn't offer you?
If you use ADF, you don't have to use it for every page. You can bind some components on your page using adf directly to your adf data controls, and you can bind other components to your backing beans, and have full control. No reason to throw out adf if there are just a few cases where you need more control.
Btw, do you have a link to a page describing these non adf data controls and data bindings?

  • Creation of Data Control for custom java method  which will return records

    Hi Guys,
I have a requirement of creating a a custom java method in App module which will return a record set taking an id as input. In case of single return type it works fine but in case of returning record set it is not working. In my case i have to combine two tables and return it as a single entity as a view in Data Control.
    Warm Regards,
    Srinivas.

Why don't you just create a custom view object? There's even an example or 2 in the docs:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E16162_01/web.1112/e16182/intro_tour.htm#CHDGDIEC (check out "View object on refcursor" example)
Edit: you are aware that you can create a View Object based on more than one table?

  • Calendar assignment in OAVH for '03' period control for calendar year dependent fiscal year.

    Hi
We have a year dependent Fiscal Year in our client's system. It is a 5-4-4 Fiscal Year variant starting from March till Feb.
While trying to create a new asset we faced an error "You cannot save this asset(Correct depreciation error)." I checked and found that the error is due to a missing calendar assignment in OAVH for the period control key '03' (Pro rata at mid-period) for our fiscal year variant. Till the last fiscal year it had been maintained, but for current fiscal year the assignment is not maintained.
Can someone help me to understand how the calendar assignment is done in OAVH for a 03 period control key for a year dependent fiscal year like ours?
I tried using the transaction OA84 (Generate Period Control), but it provides the calendar assignment for all other period control methods except for '03'. Is there some specific reason as to why OA84 does not generate for '03' period control?
I checked the last fiscal year's assignments in OAVH for our fiscal year variant for '03' period control, but could not understand how it was configured, because it did not relate to the fiscal year variant assignment that we have done in OB29. Also, I even checked whether we need to enter the mid date of the periods, but that also was not done for the last fiscal year. I am unable to understand how the dates have been assgined.
Given below is our last Fiscal Year's OAVH settings for '03' period control:

    Dear Ambarish,
As it is a year dependent fiscal year variant, we should create the year for the variant via OB29, then generate the period via OA84.

  • User exit for additional data B for sale order item .

    Hi., all

. Display the Last Price under Additional Data B Screen
add new field (last extended price) in additional data b screen.
after that 1.     Using the Sales Order Material Number (VBAP-MATNR), Sales Order Sales Organization (VBAK-VKORG), Sales Order Distribution Channel (VBAK-VTWEG), Sales Order Division (VBAK-SPART), Sales Order Sold-to Number (VBPA-KUNNR for VBPA-PARVW=u2019AGu2019) to access the Billing Items By Material Index Table (VRPMA) and specify a billing date (VRPMA-FKDAT) of less than 60 days from current Sales Order requested delivery date (if specified at header VBAK-VDATU or at the schedule line level (VBEP-EDATU).  This will result in all the billing documents where the Sold-to bought the item but isnu2019t completely refined as of yet.  Retain the billing document (VRPMA-VBELN), item (VBPMA-POSNR), and billing date (VRPMA-FKDAT) in a temporary table to pass to number 2 as the input.
    2.     Use the billing document (VRPMA-VBELN) and item (VRPMA-POSNR) to read the Sales Document Partners Table (VBPA) where the partner function (VBPA-PARVW = u201CSHu201D) and the Sales Order Ship-To (VBPA-KUNNR for VBPA-PARVW=u2019WEu2019) to select ONLY billing documents that are for that given ship-to location.  This filters out only billing documents relevant for that ship-to location.
    3.     From the resulting list of billing documents, select the most recent date (VRPMA-FKDAT) which will refine the search for the last Billing Document (VRPMA-VBELN) and item (VRPMA-POSNR).
    4.     Using the most recent Billing Document (VBPA-VBELN), access the Billing Document Item Table (VBRP). To result in the Last Extended Price as VBRP-KZWI1.
    5.     This price will be an extended price which needs to be calculated as a u2018unit priceu2019.  For this billing item, select the sales unit (VBRP-VRKME) to determine if the sales unit is in cases or eaches.
    a.     If the unit of measure is in cases, then simple math is required to divide the Last Extended Price (VBRP-KZWI1) by the billing quantity (VBRP-FKIMG).  Standard rounding should apply when .005 results in a .01.

    Hi Chakravarthy,
use the Exits provided in SAPMV45A -includes MV45*ZZ and screen exits as well 8309 8310 8459, 8460. Just be sure to
use zznnnnnn include in the SAP provided forms instead of coding directly in the forms.
You can check below user exits:
MV45ATZZ :For entering metadata for sales document processing. User-specific metadata must start with "ZZ".
    MV45AOZZ:
For entering additional installation-specific modules for sales document processing which are called up by the screen and run under PBO (Process Before Output) prior to output of the screen. The modules must start with "ZZ".
    MV45AIZZ:
For entering additional installation-specific modules for sales document processing. These are called up by the screen and run under PAI (Process After Input) after data input (for example, data validation). The modules must start with "ZZ".
    MV45AFZZ and MV45EFZ1:
For entering installation-specific FORM routines and for using user exits, which may be required and can be used if necessary. These program components are called up by the modules in MV45AOZZ or MV45AIZZ.

    Yes Mr. Patil...
    For existing employees
you need to execute HIRING ACTION Through BDC with External number range. While recording you have to use atleast three infotype i.e. IT0000,IT0001,IT0002. In addition you can upload other infotype through PA30.
    For new employees
While configuration you can create another number range as internal  for new hiring. and use NUMKR feature as well.
Here I don't understand that why r u looking for upload process for new hiring, if it is not mass hiring. It should be day to day activities which would be done by user through PA40.
