SimSun Font

Dear Sir
I have a problem regarding simsun chinese font display in the PDF report generated by JRC
I use Crystal Report to prepare a rpt file and  in which I change some chinese words to use Simsun font, which is provided in the font selection pull-down menu.
I use the preview function in Crystal report, it displays fine.
However, once I pass the rpt file to JRC component to generate the PDF, all chinese wording becomes funny characters. They look like chinese but not correct.
Please help
Kit

The character encoding limitation is specific to the PDF export.
The PDF export engine is revamped for the next version of Crystal Reports for Eclipse, which has just recently gone Alpha (so it's for testing purposes only, not production):
  http://diamond.businessobjects.com/node/19218
You might test the report,  in fact, in the Crystal Report Viewer XI (offline viewer), available here:
  http://www.businessobjects.com/product/catalog/crystalreports_viewer/
Save the report with data, and try viewing it in the Crystal Report Viewer XI, then export to PDF.  The Viewer uses version 11.9.* of the JRC (CR4E v1 uses 11.8.*).  If the PDF export displays incorrect fonts, if you click Help -> General Feedback... then you can send a bug report to BusinessObjects.
Sincerely,
Ted Ueda

  • Display Simsun Font in JTextPane, need all characters have same width

    Hi, Gurus
    Need help regarding this issue.
    I am using a JTextPane for display and user input, and I need to use "Simsum" font(customer requirment). And an important requirment is that every character should have the same width, including space. And I find out that when displayed in JTextPane, for English characters and digits, there is no problem, they all have same width, only problem is with space, it is a little bit narrower than other characters. For example, if I type 26 characters "ABCD......XYZ" in the first line, then type 26 spaces in the second line, it is very noticeable that the spaces are narrower.
    At first I thought it is the problen with the font, but then I tried type characters and spaces in Notepad using "Simsun" font and find out that space has the same width with other characters.
    I am thinking probably I need to create my own font based on "Simsun" font, or there is some attributes or styles I need to add when create the styled document for my JTextPane.
    Can anybody give me some help here? Thanks

  • Can't install Simsun font

    I have a Word document which uses the Chinese font Simsun. I found the font file in the MS Office/Fonts folder but I can't seem to install it in FontBook -- when I try to add it, nothing happens. FontBook doesn't hang or anything, it's just . . . nothing. The font doesn't appear in the list.
    Is this an issue with the font itself or with Font Book?

    I put Simsun in cherylkohler/library/fonts (I don't have a "home" folder, I assume this is what you mean)
    If from the Finder you do Go > Home, you presumably are in the cherylkohler folder, right?
    I wonder if there is something about 10.3 which doesn't like that font? (I'm using 10.4 but I did not think there should be a difference). Did you restart your machine?
    Another place you can ask if necessary is the Word newsgroup:

  • Prob with chinese font bold, italic... in PDF report

    Hello everyone ! :D
    My symptoms (overview) : to create my RDF report, I'm using a font, simsun.ttf, wich allow me to view chineses and french characters. Everything is ok, except in PDF format, all the items remains in "normal" style.
    My configuration : Windows NT4 SP6a
    Report Builder 9.0.4.2
    Acrobat Reader 7.0
    Oracle Database 9.2.0.6
    In Detail : in report builder, every items (text fields, labels,...) are directly created with SimSun font. Some items are bold, some italic, ...
    If i generate the report in RTF format, my items bold, italic, ... are ok in Microsoft Word (SimSun Bold, ...). However, if i generate the report in PDF format, everything is in "normal" style.
    I changed the file UIFONT.ALI like this :
    [ PDF:Subset ]
    # This example shows how to subset Arial True Type font into the PDF file
    # Arial = "Arial.ttf"
    # The True Type font files must exist in any one of the folders specified in
    # REPORTS_PATH.
    SimSun..Italic.Bold.. = "SimSun.ttf"
    SimSun...Bold.. = "SimSun.ttf"
    SimSun..Italic... = "SimSun.ttf"
    SimSun..... = "SimSun.ttf"
    and also like that (just to try something else, but it does not change anything) :
    [ PDF:Subset ]
    # This example shows how to subset Arial True Type font into the PDF file
    # Arial = "Arial.ttf"
    # The True Type font files must exist in any one of the folders specified in
    # REPORTS_PATH.
    SimSun = "SimSun.ttf"
    Obviously, with an Arial font, we can map the different files Arialb.ttf, Arialbi.ttf, ... according to the desired font style we want, but with SimSun font, there is only one file : SimSun.ttf.
    Obviously, i have no choice for the font... I have to use SimSun.
    Anyway, if i take a look at my PDF, the used fonts (in file>property>fonts>) i can see several personnalized fonts, each one corresponding to a SimSun style (one for SimSun, Bold, an other for SimSun, BoldItalic, ...) but everything is the same style on screen.
    Does somebody have an idea??
    Thanks a lot !

    Hi I am also facing same Problem If you get solution to this please help me.
    I have one sugestion,Inf you PDF file go to file>Document Properties>fonts
    chech that if tyep is TYPE3 and font is CUSTOM then it is using subsetting ,and if not then report is using pdfs default font and it is not using required font
    Hope this may solve your Problem

  • How can I use two fonts in swing components?

    I want to implement a project. When a part of the JMenuBar, JButton or other swing components' text is English, I use Tahoma font, and other of these components' text is Chinese, I use SimSun font, just like the Chinese Windows OS. How can I implement it??
    Thanks!!

    Ooh, thats a tricky one. I'm not sure whether you can do that, but maybe someone else with more experienced can correct me.
    You'll probably have to create your own custom JMenu that displays two labels, one for English and one for the Chinese parts?

  • Multilingual pdf font gets changed.

    Hi all,
    I have an issue on one multilingual pdf. We developed a multilingual pdf on reports6i. We set the fonts of all the labels and fields to arial(8).We had a
    field which will display either chinese or english data.
    We had a format trigger on this field. If the blength is not equal to length we set the font to "times new roman".
    We had font subsetting. The configuration of the uifont.ali is like this. We aliased "times new roman" to SimSun in the global aliasing section. We had pdf subsetting for SimSun(SimSun="SIMSUN.TTF"). We compiled this rdf in a reports 9i. The pdf report generated by this configuration is perfectly allright.
    But when we try to edit this pdf by changing any label value that field also gets subsetted. For example: If we change a field for whoom the font is set arial(8) from mtd to method That field also gets subsetted to simsun font. All fields that we change are subsetted to simsun font irrespective of whether subsetting is intended or not.
    More over all new reports that we create (win XP env) have all fields subsetted.
    This ofcourse is a big sad story. Let me brief the problem. All reports that we create( builder 6 or 7) what ever font we set, All the label and fields are getting subset.(subset configuration in uifont.ali is only for SimSun,SimSun=SIMSUN.ttf).
    pls give any ideas.

    Hi navneet,
    But when we try to edit this pdf by changing any label value that field also gets subsettedi actually meant to say rdf.
    More over all new reports that we create (win XP env) have all fields subsetted. font subsetting is only for simsun. In the pdf-subset option we have put simsun=simsun.ttf. Times new roman is substituted to simsun in the global section of the uifonts.ali file.
    When we open the rdf we get different fonts in different pcs. We tried in xp , 2000 pcs. In one pc all fonts are shown as arial unicode. In some pc it is shown as simsun. But when ever we edit a label that label alone gets subsetted. The rest remains the same.
    what ever reports that we develop newly .. have all data subsetted. no clue why this is happening.
    thanks in advance .. thanks for your attention.

  • Chinese font displayed incorrectly in Windows XP

    We are creating pdf documents in our business system containing chinese text and therefore using Windows SimSun font as default. Pdf files shows up correctly in Windows Vista, 7 and 8 but in Windows XP it displayes incorrect characters.
    If I copy and paste the text from pdf to Notepad in Windows XP and select the SimSun font it diplayes correct characters. Problem is in Adobe Reader, we have tested from ver 9 and up to the latest but still showing incorrect characters.
    Any ideas on why this is happening on Windows XP ?

    Do you have the appropriate Chinese font pack installed on any of these computers?

  • HELP!!! character display problem in JEditorPane

    hi,
    I got a headache with my program which needs to display multiple language html page in a JEditorPane. For example, if user requests a Chinese page then page is read in from an inputstreamreader using Chinese charset encoding. But what JEditorPane displays is squares and this is a very common font problem. I did everything I can
    copy font.properties.zh to font.properties
    set JEditorPane font as Font("SIMSUN",Font.PLAIN,12)
    with the bug unsolved so far.
    I am using Windows 2000/ME in UK locale.
    Anybody could help please???

    yes, the input data, for example in the case of Chinese Simpilify Character, is read in using a decoder with charset GB2312. I think I can print them out on prompt console but in a unrecognizable format.
    Anyway, I would like to reconfirm the steps I took: (Presumably I know I am going to load a Chinese page)
    1. rename font.properties.zh to font.properties
    2. set the font of JEditorPane as ("SIMSUN",Font.PLAIN,12)
    3. when try to load a Chinese page, there should be a ChangedCharSetException. extract the charset from the exception and use it to construct a new InputStreamReader.
    4. I also set the content-type of JEditorPane as something like "text/html; charset=gb2312"
    5. read in the data and parse it into a HTMLDocument instance.
    6. finally use setDocument method to display the document on the JEditorPane.
    In this way, the page gets displayed in unknown characters.
    Anybody could show me something different but feasiable? Please!!!

  • Macro won't change the language of some characters - GUI input works fine

    I have an issue where certain characters in documents are in the SimSun font and the language is set to "Chinese (PRC)". I wrote a macro that successfully changes the font from simsun to another font, but it doesn't work if the language is Chinese
    (PRC) and perhaps others, but this is the only case I have found so far.
    It works fine if the language is English to begin with. Even more frustrating is that fact that, if I "Select All -> Language USEnglish" via the GUI after I run the SimSun change macro, the characters that the macro already worked on will change
    appropriately.
    However, if I try to change the language with a macro it doesn't work. I can literally record my actions that work as a macro, but when I run the macro, it doesn't work.
    Does anyone know what causes this behavior? Is there any way to fix it?
    This is what I use.
        Selection.WholeStory
        Selection.LanguageID = wdEnglishUS
        Application.CheckLanguage = False
    Thanks!

    Edit: I'm currently working with Word2013 but I know this same behavior is replicated in word 2010 on a different computer.
    Okay, here is some test data:
    https://onedrive.live.com/view.aspx?cid=608A603435D13670&resid=608A603435D13670%21111&app=Word
    and here is the data after I run the macro:
    https://onedrive.live.com/view.aspx?cid=608A603435D13670&resid=608A603435D13670%21116&app=Word
    If I manually (through the GUI) select all and set the language, the text comes out fine. However, those steps have no effect when run as a macro, even if I record them and they while they work correctly.
    I actually can't seem to change the language of Chinese (PRC) at all with a macro but the GUI does seem to work.
    Here is the full code that I am running. It's got a few extra lines in there because I was trying to figure out if I could get it to change the language to English somehow:

  • Chinese character issues in v 9.0

    I need some help please. I am using AI 9.0 and Photoshop 5.5 (yes, it's ancient, it still does the job) on a Windows based system.
    I need to do some design work in AI using Chinese Traditional fonts. The font I want is SimSun, and it does show up in the font list in AI. I can see, copy and paste the fonts in every program I've got - except my Adobe products, where - naturally - I need it. I'm not typing this up myself, I'm just trying to copy a pre-existing document (the text) into an AI design, and the document has the SimSun font.
    I read somewhere else that I should be able to copy the text from Word into Photoshop and from there into AI, but #1 this doesn't work, and #2 that seems unnecessarily difficult.
    I'd really appreciate someone steering me in the right direction here - I'm not sure what I haven't tried yet, and I'm getting frustrated.

    For many years, Illustrator lagged behind other Adobe applications -- yes, even Photoshop -- in Unicode and IME support. I'd say AI Unicode support wasn't really there until version 12 (CS2).
    The set-type-via-Photoshop workaround is well known among CJK users. I stumbled on it myself a long time ago and have used it successfully many times, although I cannot begin to tell you why it works. At this point, though, I just don't know which versions of Illustrator and Photoshop can be used to pull it off.
    The oldest version of Photoshop I have on a system of mine is 7, and I have AI versions 8, 10, and 12 on the same system. The workaround (pasting CJK type into PS 7, then re-copying and pasting into AI) is a no-go for AI 8, A-OK for AI 10, and unnecessary for AI 12. As you can see, your versions just might be too old.
    I didn't have SimSun, but I did try a few of my CJK Unicode fonts with identical results.
    You might try a different font. You might also try workaround #2, wherein you substitute InDesign for Photoshop in the process.
    In the end, you might just have to admit "ancient but does the job" no longer cuts it for you.

  • How to generate reports 10g in chinese characters pdf/html (10g)

    Hi,
    we have installed Oracle AS 10g (9.0.4.1) on an windows 2000 server.
    The nls_lang=American_america.UTF8
    the database server 10g with characterset utf8
    The chinese font used is the simsun (simsun.ttf) semplified chinese.
    We have no problem with the forms and the database (we have prompt in chinese and we store data in chinese and we view the forms with the jnitiator.
    Our problem are the reports: we can't view chinese characters in pdf reports or html
    We have readen a lot of topics (very confused..) and we have tryed a lot of solutions but without success.
    In particolar, the last:
    in the uifont.ali under the pdf subset section we have mapped the simsun font with the file arialuni.ttf
    simsun="arialuni.ttf"
    We have installed the arial unicode ms (arialuni.ttf) on the server and also on the client.
    we have put the file arialuni.ttf also in a directory of the report path.
    But it doesn't work.
    What can we do ?
    Regards

    I agree with Phillip. Looks li ke you've got everything else setup properly, but you should use a Unicode font in your report instead of simsun. If you really want to use Simsun, then change your report server NLS parameter to use something like NLS_LANG=SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.ZHS16GBK or even NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.ZHS16GBK, and remove the reference to arialuni.ttf. By making your report server use UTF8, it requires that you use a Unicode font. If you change your NLS to a Chinese character set, sqlnet will do the conversion for you automatically and transparently, and you can use simsun
    The subset feature is what allows you to see the PDF properly on machines that don't already have the font installed. If your target users are internal and you can control them, or external and all likely to have the font already, you don't need the subsetting at all.

  • Jfmerge: [240]Failure loading colour palette from form file.

    Hi All,
    I need your help. I am new to JetForm and have to use it because of my work. Recently I have been assigned a task which is to amend an existing form, however, when I opened it with the JetForm Designer, it prompted me with message #4043 with following information:
    The current settings for Symbol Set handling are different
    from when the form was last saved.
    Form: Convert is Yes,950,950
    Current: Convert is Yes,1252,850
    I skipped the warning message and just compile the MDF file directly without any changes. Then, I just got the "jfmerge: [240]Failure loading colour palette from form file." error message during the printing process. May I know how could I fix it? Please help and advise.
    Thanks,
    Charoite

    Hello,
    I have exactly same problem than you while opening an existing .ifd file :
    The current settings for Symbol Set handling are different from when the template was last saved.
    Template : Convert is No,936,850
    Current : Convert is N0,1252,850
    I suppose it is due to chinese characters (Simsun font) bad installed on my desktop, but it is only hypothesis.
    Did you achieve to avoid this message since 05/2011 ?

  • Displaying Chinese Characters in JFrame

    I was trying out some sample code in "Java Internationalization" for Chinese, and I am having problems viewing Chinese characters in JFrame. They show up as squares/rectangles instead of glyphs. I read that I needed to download Microsoft's Arial Unicode. I went to the site and discovered that Microsoft's TrueType core fonts for the Web are no longer available for download.
    Am I doing something wrong in the code? If the code is OK what should I do?
    The following is code based out of the O'Reilly book:
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class NoInChinese extends JPanel {
    static JFrame frame;
    static String aSentence = "No in Chinese is, \u4e0d.";
    public NoInChinese(String characters) {
    Font theFont = new Font("Bitstream Cyberbit", Font.PLAIN, 20);
    JTextArea area = new JTextArea(characters, 2, 30);
    area.setFont(theFont);
    area.setLineWrap(true);
    JScrollPane scrollpane = new JScrollPane(area);
    add(scrollpane);
    public static void main(String argv[]) {
    NoInChinese chinesePanel = new NoInChinese(aSentence);
    frame = new JFrame("Test");
    frame.addWindowListener(new WindowAdapter() {
    public void windowClosing(WindowEvent e) {System.exit(0);}
    frame.getContentPane().add("Center", chinesePanel);
    frame.pack();
    frame.setVisible(true);
    Aggie

    Thanks fsato4, i have set the font to SimSun and can display the chinese char in unicode.
    However, i modified the source code a little to read from resource bundle. Here's my codes:
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.util.Locale;
    import java.util.ResourceBundle;
    import java.text.MessageFormat;

      private static ResourceBundle messages;
      public NoInChinese(Locale currentLocale,String characters) {
        messages = ResourceBundle.getBundle("rb",currentLocale);
        JTextArea area = new JTextArea(characters, 10, 30);
        area.setFont(font);
        area.setLineWrap(true);
        area.append(System.getProperty("line.separator"));
        // this line will show glyph.
        //area.append(convert(messages.getString("FileMenu")));
        // this line will show the correct char
        area.append(convert(messages.getString("FileMenu")));

        area.append(System.getProperty("line.separator"));
        area.append(convert(messages.getString("CancelMenu")));
        JScrollPane scrollpane = new JScrollPane(area);
        add(scrollpane);
      public static String convert(String theString) {
        String theNewString = theString;
        // String encoding = "CP1252";
        String encoding = "ISO-8859-1";
        String newEncoding = "GB18030";
        if (newEncoding != null) {
          try {
            byte[] convertedBytes = theString.getBytes(encoding);
            theNewString = new String(convertedBytes, newEncoding);
          } catch (Exception e) {
            System.err.println("Not able to convert " +
                                encoding + " " + newEncoding);
        return theNewString;
      public static void main(String args[]) {
        Locale currentLocale = new Locale("zh", "CN");
        NoInChinese chinesePanel = new NoInChinese(currentLocale,aSentence);
        frame = new JFrame("Test");
        frame.addWindowListener(new WindowAdapter() {
          public void windowClosing(WindowEvent e) {System.exit(0);}
        frame.getContentPane().add("Center", chinesePanel);
        frame.pack();
        frame.setVisible(true);
    }If i just read the unicode string from the resource bundle and display, glyph char will display. I have to use the convert method to read in as encoding "ISO-8859-1" then form a new string with GB18030, then i am able to see the display correctly.
    Why is this so?
    My resource bundle file looks like that:
    FileMenu=\u00ce\u00c4\u00bc\u00fe
    EditMenu=Edit
    CancelMenu=\u00c5\u00c5\u00b3\u00fd
    Thank you!

    You should be using either the Character or Paragraph Designers to select the required font and apply it using a style. Directly applying a font creates a formatting override and is not a recommended procedure.

  • Fonts issue while using FM 7.1

    Hi,
    I am using the XML file as a source and port the content to FM 7.1. I have to port 8 languages like Arabic, Russian, Korean, and so on. I am facing the following issues with few of the languages:
    Korean - The Korean fonts (Gulim, GulimChe, Dotum, and DotumChe(True type)) are available in the FrameMaker font list, but when I copy andpaste the content in FrameMaker and apply the fonts, the content is not thesame, there are “?” in between.
    Russian - The Russian font (Arial) is available in theFrameMaker font list, but when I copy and paste the content in FrameMaker, thecontent shows “?”
    zh-hans - The Chinese Simplified font (simsun) is available in theFrameMaker font list, but when I copy and paste the content in FrameMaker, thecontent shows “?”
    zh-hant - The Chinese Traditional font (mingliu) is available in theFrameMaker font list, but when I copy and paste the content in FrameMaker, thecontent shows “?”
    Can anyone help me to resolve this issue or if there are any websites/fonts available to download?
    Thanks,
    Keerthi

    Keerthi,
    As Michael Kazlow mentioned using FrameMaker 7.1 is one stumbling block. Using FrameMaker 8 or later will remove the problems with Russian and Eastern European languages, provided you are using fonts that support all necessary characters. Arial as FrameMaker 7 sees it does not contain Cyrillic glyphs, add Russian keyboard settings to your system and during this process a virtual font "Arial CYR" will be made available.
    With Arabic there is no real option with special tricks. FrameMaker does not and never did support right-to-left languages. All »solutions« I have heard of worked with tricks like mirrored fonts and could not take advantage of the built-in features of Windows and therefor need a proprietary editor to prepare the input.
    Regarding all non-Western languages, copy & paste requires that your system is set to the appropriate system locale.
    I am wondering why you talk about XML and also Copy & Paste. Are you going to handcraft the documents and the input is by chance in an XML document or are you planning to design a structured application? With the latter, please move the discussion to the Structured forum.
