Site Synchronisation
Hello, and thanks for taking a look at this question.
We have 3 web developers all working on the same project. I have configured all of their Macs to have a single Site where the 'Local' Site points to the same folder on our server. This way all of them are working on the same site. Of course we have to be careful who is working on which files, but that's OK.
My problem is that if designer A synchronises files with the Remote Site, designer B and C are not aware of this. When they preview for synchronisation they do not see that designer A has uploaded some new files so they upload them all over again.
Is there a better workflow to enable us to all work on a single site and share the synchronisation status?

I'm a little confused with your scenario. Why would you have to be careful which files are being edited at once? That is what the Check-In/Check-Out feature is for? Are you not using that to have your developers pull files out to work on and then saving them back.
The synchronization should not really be needed in this scenario because if the files are being checked-in/checked-out then they are always saved to the server. Even without the check-in/check-out feature enabled, I can't figure out why synchronization would need to take place unless the developers have a copy locally on their computer and then sync to the testing server before that is synced to the live server.

Okay so, my .site file became corrupt...again! So I built a new site file from the web content folder, however GoLive now wants to upload 19000 items every time I want to add an updated file via the upload button, if I synchronize with publish server it finds only the updated files and uploads these.
But synchronizing every time takes ages.... is there a way of making the site file "learn" that it is the same as that at the publish server location so that I can just click the upload button and upload only new or edited files....

am wondering how other developers will keep their sites synchronised with clients updating them?
I have suggested that clients email me when they are making changes - how are others going to handle it?

VixExactly.. ALWAYS keep a backup. More so in case InContext screws up the code. I see that more than the client messing it up.
Also, about what Don Popa said... You can't depend on the "news" secrtion of the admin at all... for example; If your files point to a folder such as
http: //www.yoursite.com/descriptive-folder/
then the admin will always show "user has made changes to index.html" . It never tells you which one... It's quite annoying actually, therefor the News panel is completely useless to me.
Anyhow, I usually zip all my content folders (the folders that contain the web pages themselves) then I go in and pull all the new folders and the "ice-media" folder before editing. You could probably find a script that will "zip" all the content folders and email them to you on a weekly basis. That way you always have a backup. -
Hello if anyone could help??
Ok, have a new i pod nano and everthing works fine. However downloaded a music video through I tunes store that is sitting in my I Tunes library. However when I go to synch it to the player an error icon appears (round red circle with a slah through) when I drag it over to the player. Also if I try to press the Synch button it will Synch for about 3 seconds and then stop telling my Synch is complete. However the video does not appear in the player.
I have followd all the instructions and have changed the file to fit an I pod (feature in the library) as I understand not all files wil play. However that does not seem to work.
No error messge appears.
I am now at a lost as to what to do.
Would be very greatful for any assitance.

If you are having issues syncing a downloaded video to your iPod nano, even after converting it, you may want to verify that that video conversion and syncing in general are working alright. You may find the following article helpful:

I manage a couple of different version of SharePoint, which we are in the process of migrating to SharePoint 2013. I have a problem which I am not sure how to resolve. We are using MetaLogix to migrate site and site collection data from an older SharePoint
2007/WSS3.0 server environment into our new SharePoint 2013 environment and we are having a problem with user profiles that get created.
I have SharePoint 2013 set up for "SharePoint Profile Synchronization" and some of our user's profiles are being created in an older format that shows the user's claims account information, rather than the more fancy profile type that allows us
to include pictures and click on "follow this person" links.
If we manually delete the profile, it will be recreated properly however, as we are migrating many sites and collections over, it is near impossible to do this and keep track of each user so that their profiles can be deleted and recreated.
Is there some way to change this behavior so that SharePoint will only create the newer style of user profile?These 'profiles' are you looking at them in the User Profile Service Application itself or are you looking at site collections? There is a huge difference between the two but people often miss it.
In most cases you'll have some partial information on the Site Collections but when you click through to their actual profile (not just their User Information List entry) you'll see the prettier version. That information is normally internally synchronised
by a timer job but that may not have run yet and/or the fact that your users haven't actually used the site may be causing it not to update them (it's an efficiency matter).
Finally: Drop your sales guy at Metalogix an email, they will bounce it to one of their techies and they'll have seen it a million times. -
Error message "The specified user or domain group was not found" when trying to access certain sites
Hello.
My setup is as such (this is a testing environment), spread over two virtual machines:
-Windows Server 2012 with AD DS and MS SQL Server 2012
-SharePoint Server 2013
When trying to access a lot of site collections in different web applications, I am given this error message. The error message started suddenly appearing, and I do not know what caused it. It started happening after I turned on Request Management Service
Application, though I can't see how that would cause this, and it was not fixed after I turned it off.
I have the necessary permissions, as I have been able to log on to the sites before without any issue. I am using a domain administrator account who is a site collection administrator.
At first I thought it was an issue related to User Profile Service Application, as I was having issues starting the Synchronisation instance. I deleted and re-installed UPS, got synchronisation to work, and it still does not work. I have made no changed
to the AD schema. I have not moved any accounts recently, and I have not deleted any accounts.
Here are the ULS log entries. It seems to have been truncated some.

Google and Facebook show 'This connection is untrusted'; other sites are fine. What's wrong?
Hi there,
Yesterday I could log into sites like Facebook, Google and others fine, and now when I try to log in to them it comes up with the following message:
'This connection is untrusted.
www.facebook.com uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)'
I managed to get onto other sites like BBC News and Outlook without any error messages. Strangely, Google Images comes up fine from a bookmarked link, but then goes to untrusted as soon as you search for anything. I've seen this message come up on the support site before, and have tried the following suggestions:
-Cleared the cache
-Cleared cookies (including individual page cookies)
-Deleted internet temp files
-Cleared Downloads folder in Firefox
-Opened Firefox in Safe Mode to rule out add-on problems
-Chosen 'No proxy server' in the Network options
-Reloaded the page using Ctrl-Shift-R
-Reloaded the page from a History tab when it was working (yesterday)
-Used the bookmarked link
-Typed the link in directly
-Reset Firefox
-Deleted the 'cert8' file in the Firefox folder
-Synchronised system time and date with time.windows
-Full antivirus scan on computer (which showed nothing)
-Checked web security settings in Bullguard (no interference there)
-Uninstalled/reinstalled Firefox
I managed to get Google working eventually, then the Mozilla Support pages said they were untrusted, so I'm currently posting from Chrome, which is becoming my backup browser more frequently :(

ITunes & iPod song synchronisation problem.
Dear Experts,
I want iTunes to scan through it's song database and remove from its Library the songs that no longer exist on my iPod.
The reason for this is that once I've copied tracks to the iPod, I delete them from the Mac's hard disk. So now, my iTunes library has lots of tracks listed which are NOT present on the iPod.
i.e. is there a script which can synchronise the contents of playlists (which contain tracks on my iPod) with the main iTunes library,so that the Library lists ONLY the songs present on the iPod and playlists?
Any idea on how to do this? Suggestions gratefully received. (I have searched the forum without any succcess and I've checked the iTunes script site.)

G4 DA, G3 B/W & iBook 800 MHz Mac OS X (10.3.9)Why assume that Podcasts are not music? Or that files in a user's Library are music? I subscribe to music podcasts and my Library has many audio books and spoken word recordings. Shouldn't my iPod let me arrange these tracks in the order of my choice, rather than assuming (incorrectly most of the time) that I would want the podcasts on top? I don't think I would have any difficult finding and playing podcasts if Apple left my song order untouched. (Needless to say, like the originator of this thread, I am not using it in "shuffle" mode.)
Okay, as long as you define 'bad' as 'not the way I
want it to be'. You might want to consider how, given
the design of the Shuffle, you'd ever be able to find
and listen to just Podcasts (and not music) if they
were NOT placed at the top of the list in that play
mode.
If you want your iPS to treat your podcasts just like
any other garden-variety music track then you'll
probably have to jump through some or all of the
miscellaneous hoops that people have discovered and
discussed in these and other forums. The subject has
been covered ad nauseum; you'll have a lot to choose
from.
Or, you can simply get some other MP3 player which
will do what you want. I'm not claiming that there is
one, but there certainly could be.

Has any one experienced issues with iCloud synchronisation and contacts over two or more devices? The primary machine is an iMac running Lion. Address Book was created from vcf file (backup of address book prior to moving to iCloud). iTouch replicates Contacts just fine and matches the Address Book on the iMac. The iPad 2 does not showing only 123 contacts where there should be 200. I have turned off iCloud on both devices thus erasing the iCloud content of both devices and staring from scratch with both devices with identical results. Even turned off iCloud on the iMac and erased the Address Book and rebuilt with the same results. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I am going nuts.....
To follow-up with this issue:
I ended up performing a security wipe on my device. The security wipe finished, and I was about to reconnect with Exchange when I decided to visit our host's web site to see if they had any articles covering the issues I was experiencing. While they didn't have anything specific, I did find a step-by-step guide to connecting a BB10 device to Exchange... and right there at the end, it said "Do NOT enable memo sync."
I contacted support, and the rep told me that OS 10 has an issue with memo sync and it can cause all sorts of unpredictable behavior. Now, whether or not this is accurate I can say this: So far, the device is not disconnecting and reconnecting like it was before. Problem is, is this a result of not enabling memo sync, or is this a result of the security wipe?
I may have overlooked it, but I don't recall reading anything about that anywhere else. I'm tempted to try re-enabling the memo sync to see if everything blows up again. At least that way I can see for myself if the memo sync is a real issue. Of course, perhaps it's an issue with SherWeb (our host) specifically. Hm...
Anyway, for those that were interested, and for those that may come along in the future with a similar situation, the strange behavior that I first reported is no longer happening. I just don't know if it was a result of a security wipe or a result of not enabling memo sync with Exchange.

Toc will not synchronise in large files
Using Webhelp, the TOC fails to synchronise on the web when
there are too many topics. It displays the correct page but the TOC
does not update.
If i delete topics out it works. If the file is to big, it
says "Loading files - click to cancel" when a book is opened
towards the end of the file. I presume in this instance that all
the files are not initially loaded in for some reason so the TOC
cannot synronise?
Are there limits in Webhelp or could this be something to do
with the browser?

If you could try the following and report back as to whether
this works, I'd appreciate it.
When generating WebHelp by double-clicking the layout, if you
click the Next > button twice, you should see the Navigation
Pane format and Optimize Speed options. I believe that if you
change from Web Site (the default setting) to Local PC, the
synchronization begins working, as all the navigation is stored in
a single file and not hundreds or even thousands of smaller files.
Please give that a try and report back if it helps. I'm
trying to confirm if it is a solution for this issue.

Synchronisation problem when using iFS as Portal document repository
Is anyone using 9iFS as the repository for their Portal documents but getting DRG-11602: URL store: access to <file name> requires authentication when synchronising the PORTAL30.WWSBR_URL_CTX_INDX index. This is run under schema CTXSYS, using ctx_schedule.
We use a URL on the Portal folder to access the iFS document and, if the ACE on the document ACL includes World Read, then the document is indexed correctly but if it has no World Read access then synchronisation fails with the above error. These secure documents are indexed correctly, however, when synchronising IFSSYS.IFS_TEXT.
When you put the URL for the document in the browser then you are prompted for an iFS username/password and this is obviously the problem when synchronising. Oracle Support say that the Oracle 9i Oracle Text Reference, Chapter 2: Indexing, definition of URL_DATASTORE states :The login:password@ syntax within the URL is not supported. Oracle Support have also suggested that using iFS as the Portal repository is not standard practice and that we should simply add our documents as items on the folder. Doing this means not being able to take advantage of the added functionality of iFS such as versioning and, anyway, I thought that Oracle had plans to fully integrate the two products with iFS being the default repository in a future release of Portal.
Until then has anyone got any ideas for a workaround because we are unable to index the contents of all secure documents on our Corporate intranet? We cant be the only site using iFS and Portal in this way!Hello Raymond,
I must say that I downloaded the JBoss Portal Binary and not the bundle JBoss AS + JBoss Portal, because I already had a JBoss AS working, so it was the best way to do it (as it is said in the JBossPortalReferenceGuide). I have both things (server and portal) in the same directory, but I don't know if maybe one of them should contain the other (I have seen that in the bundle, the portal directory contains the JBoss application server) When I downloaded the JBoss Portal and tried to deploy it by directing my web browser to http://localhost:8080/portal it did not work, so I decided to copy the jboss-portal.sar directory from the JBoss Portal to the deploy of my server. Maybe this was a mistake.
But anyway I have seen that JBoss Portal 2.6 comes with the myfaces jars, and as JBoss AS 4.2 uses Sun RI by default, it is going to collapse anyway. Should I just remove these jars from the portal? As I told you before, I tried doing it and I got two errors of not found classes.
Please, any help would be really appreciated, I am losing a lot of time with this bug, because the server keeps getting out of memory due to it.

Nokia 5800 - does not synchronise calendar and con...
I have my Nokia 5800 Exp Music connected by USB CABLE to PC Suite 7.0.9.2 (that is the version recommened on the Nokia site for 5800). The laptop is on 32 bit Vista Enterprise.
PC Suite does not sychronise MS Outlook Calendar and Contacts - the following WARNING message is displayed
PC Sync information.
PC Sync has encountered a problem and has terminated the synchronisation.
Possible Solution
Please check your Synchronisation settings and ensure your phone is in the Idle state, then restart the Synchronisation.

Has anyone managed to get icloud to synchronise properly with outlook calendar?
I have an iphone 5 and am running outlook 2010 on windows 7 32 bit.
I can get icloud to do the intial upoload of the calendar but then after that it won't synchronise new calendar entries.
The phone and icloud syc, but icloud won't sync with outlook whether the entry is put in outlook or in icloud.
I have spoken with Apple support and over many weeks have de-installed and re-installed icloud several times.
I have sent various diagnostiocs and screen shots.
The icloud outlook addin does not appear in the outlook add-ins section, although I can see what might be the add-in sitting on the c drive in the apple folder.
Support have also told me that there is no way to download the icloud add-in seperately.
Apple support are now telling me that I need to de-install and re-install outlook to try and get the add-in to install correctly.
That would be a real pain and I can see on this forum that other people have already tried that without success.
They also say that if that doesn't work I will need to completely re-install the OS.
I don't think they know what the problem is and are just trying anything that might work.
I really don't want to lose all my business data from outlook and certainly don't want to trash my whole PC.
Has anyone any idea where the problem might be?

I have created a web site on iWeb 08 and have a personal domain name through Network Solutions.
The website was published to Mobile Me after "set up personal domain" was done. The C Name record was changed at Network Solutions to web.me.com. When I write the domain name in the browser a box comes down asking "idisk.mac.com" wants user name and password.
1. Why is it asking for this?
2. every ID and Password I put in, it tells me is incorrect? Ahhhhhhhh What does it want from me?

Thank youThis relates to a problem I can't find in the iWeb manual. Where is my iWeb site actually published to, so I can accurately update it using FTP software, and which method to use for publishing it to domain names?
I have created two websites for two different purposes each with a personal domain (one hosted, the other with webforwarding), and through ignorance have done all three options Publish to MobileMe / Publish All to MobileMe / and Publish to a folder (my home computer user Sites folder). As a result I have three Sites folders each containing both 'mysites'- Computer/user/Sites/sitename, or iDisk/user/Sites/sitename, or iDisk/user/Web/Sites/sitename - all different sizes, worryingly, leaving me unclear which is doing what. What is the diff between Publish All to MMe and Publish to MMe - they both seem to entail both sites totally republishing even if only one page has changed. Each time, of course, it takes several minutes or more to clear through the publishing process, and then some 20-30mins more to synchronise with FTP before I find out whether I've only used the duff old version after all. What is the difference between the three Sites destination folders? Can the difference be used productively? Should I, eg, ensure my sites exist both on my computer and iDisk as backup?
Further confusing factor is that when I log into MMe and look at my folders icon on my iDisk, which are Sites and Web/Sites, the contents of the two 'mysites' folders listed under both areas are different from the SITES/iWeb display listed below them, which seems to be a truncated sort of merger of the 'mysites' contents without their separation into two. Is that iWeb item under SITES on the folders page listing a fourth set of the contents,or what?
Now to synchronising/updating: which Sites folder to use to synchronise the websites with. Can I get updating in sync with republishing? My domain host UKcentric does not provide the CNAME options you have all talked about and they are unobtainable on my hosted domain page. I sent him the web.me.com message as described in the iWeb Personal Domain instrux, but he has persistently instructed me to use FTP software to upload and update the sites. He is not Mac-friendly, he admits. I have now used three programs, ClassicFTP, FileZilla and Cyberduck, all of which seem to be rather different and none of them has told me the sync has completed (the connection drops out, etc - it does take a long time, say 30-40mins to do, and I never know when I "resume" whether it'll pick up where it was or go back to zero start). If I am stuck with this laborious method of regular manual updating, I want to know I am using the correct Sites folder to synchronise the website with. None of this is clarified in the iWeb manual. Can anyone help?
