[SOLVED] nxclient no longer in extra?

Today I found out that nxclient is no longer in extra. Is there a reason why its been removed?

you should follow the mailing lists where these kinds of things are discussed among the devs. They are pretty good most of the time in discussing when to move packages from one repo to another and when dropping some packages altogether. Most times they have valid reasons for doing what they are doing. At other times, the dev just doesn't want to deal with the said package (which is a valid reason in and of itself)... and when no other dev is willing to take responsibility for the said package, it gets dropped.

  • [SOLVED] ACPI no longer detects battery after update

Earlier today I upgraded my system (using the traditional 'sudo pacman -Syyu'). After a reboot, I noticed that xfce's power widget no longer had a battery picture by it. It believes my laptop to be plugged in at all times. I went to look at the settings, but it doesn't realize that there IS a battery.
I went into a terminal and typed 'acpi' and was met with:
    (0) [scott@destruct-o-bot ~]% acpi
No support for device type: power_supply
but I do in fact have a battery... I have no idea where to look. Also, some of the power buttons work (i have my /etc/acpi/handler.sh set to handle a bunch of different buttons, like suspend), but others that used to no longer do.
I thought I should see if there was an update to fix it a few hours later there was an update for acpi. It did not however fix it.
    Thanks

  • [SOLVED]EasyStroke no longer works after upgrading Xorg....

    Hi,
First i would just like to take the time to say, that ArchLinux kicks butt!  I just joined the forum, but have been using Arch for about a month. Thus far, i have had very few problems....until tonight
I keep my system really up-to-date (almost everyday i update).  Tonight, there was an update for Xorg (1.10? i think).
Anyway,  One of the applications that i use is Easystroke - which after the upgrade has stopped working, i even recompiled it (which went fine) but still it doesnt work.
    a more detailed explanation;
    1. the app starts up fine, and appears to be working.
    2.  i draw a gesture on the screen, and i can see easystroke drawing them.
    3. at this point the usually, i would stop drawing and easystroke would execute my gesture. but now instead, it doesn't properly release the gesture key (second button on my Wacom Bamboo stylus).
    4. Easystroke has a "history page" that allows you to see how accurate your gestures are, now it shows absolutely nothing.
I have searched around with google, and no luck.  I tried to get a more verbose output from easystroke, but it doesn't tell me anything.  So, now i am kind of stuck
After the upgrade (and a reboot), i tested the system to see if there were other problems.  So far, i have found zero.
I've tested my tablet, all of my main applications; Maya2011, Mypaint, gimp, Compiz++, Jackd, wine, etc.  Everything is fine. I have also went through the log viewer, and nothing caught my eye that would hint to what has gone wrong....
if anyone else is having the same problem, or has a possible solution, please let me know.
I can deal with not using it for now, but not having Easystroke running, seriously hinders my workflow and navigation
on my Arch Desktop.... and now i am wondering whether or not easystroke even runs with the latest X???

    Hello,
Welcome to the forums.  Your post is fine in every way.  Introduction, problem description, what you have done -- perfect.  The package you reference is from the AUR which, as you know, is not in the main stream Arch distribution.  These community contributions are essential Arch, but have their own area in the forum to differentiate them.
Moving this thread to AUR issues...
As it turns out. This isn't a bug in AUR/easystroke. It is a bug in the latest xserver 1.10.902 (found in the "extra" repo)  Many applications are affected. Opera, chrome (if you are using the mouse gestures features for navigation) and it turns out that while i thought Maya wasn't affected, in reality, it is totally affected. most applications that use a mouse with right-clicks, middle clicks do not work properly.
it's an upstream bug, that affects all distributions using the latest Xorg. I am not filing a bug report, because as i understand it, this bug has already been reported upstream by Ubuntu-devs (on launchpad).
that latest update for Xserver, should have been tested better, before being an update available through pacman.
On my system, i do not use any testing repos, only core, extra, and community. I do this to avoid situations, just like this. lol.
I have work i need to get done today, but unfortunately, the only way that could happen is if i downgrade xserver (which i don't think is a smart idea). So, i guess i must wait for the next xserver update for arch. hopefully this happens in the next 24hours.
I suppose i will have to use OSX for now, until this is properly addressed and fixed.
anyway, i just wanted to point out that this bug has nothing to do (specifically) with Easystroke or AUR, that is just how i first noticed the bug. ( i just wanted to point that out, as you are a moderator ). This bug is in the main repos for Arch, and anyone updating today (or yesterday) will be affected, if they use applications where it's noticable.

  • [SOLVED] Postgis no longer working after upgrade of postgresql

    Dear all,
after yesterdays upgrade of postgresql-server and libs to 9.0.1 the postgis package does no longer work. When trying to import postgis.sql (version 1.5) it always complains about wrong libraries version:
psql:/usr/share/postgresql/contrib/postgis-1.5/postgis.sql:59: FEHLER: inkompatible Bibliothek »/usr/lib/postgresql/postgis-1.5.so«: Version stimmt nicht überein
I have double checked on postgresql and postgis documents that the versions should be compatible:
    postgresql 9.0.1-2
    postgresql-libs 9.0.1-2
    postgis 1.5.1-1
For all databases dump and restore was fine, except for my gis databases. So upgrade from 8.4.4 to 9.0.1 worked in general.
    Any ideas?

"Unfortunately" I did not have enough time to give it a try and rebuild the package.
So today I found that there is already a new version of postgis available which works perfectly fine!

  • [SOLVED]GPG no longer supports --no-use-standard-socket?

I've used an SD card for where I store my gnupghome for a long time. I have delegated subkeys and all the configuration for them there. It's mounted to /mnt/keys on vfat. These cards use a FAT file system as I use these keys on multiple operating systems.
GPG with release 2.1 has removed the 'standard socket' options, which means now if your gnupg home is on any file system that can't create socket files (see: FAT), gpg-agent can no longer run. Ironically, this is also the release that *removes* all support for running gpg without an agent!
I'm disappointed this was not considered news for arch, I even wrote a small silly wrapper just for forcing me to read front page stories! (http://github.com/codemac/yosumiru)
The GPG news page had the following:
With GnuPG 2.1 the need of GPG_AGENT_INFO has been completely removed and the variable is ignored. Instead a fixed Unix domain socket named S.gpg-agent in the GnuPG home directory (by default ~/.gnupg) is used. The agent is also started on demand by all tools requiring services from the agent.
Any thoughts on how I can keep my gnupg on a FAT filesystem and still run the agent? I'm feeling pretty hosed right now, and am pretty confused why this feature was removed from gpg agent, as this would be as simple as keeping the old functionality, but maybe forcing the --no-use-standard-socket option to be in gpg.conf

That's exactly what I used to do as well: mount a USB key read-only and run gpg --homedir /path/to/usb.

I don't understand why you insist on using --no-use-standard-socket...
Some background: traditionally gpg-agent is started by a DE (e.g. xfce4-session starts it). This is useful because gpg-agent also manages ssh keys. However, this is not required anymore because agents are started on-demand and multiple agents can run concurrently.
Now, if you didn't have a vFAT FS, all is good as you call gpg --homedir because it will invoke gpg-agent with the correct --homedir flag.
So, all you need to do now is to rsync your gnupg dir on the SD card to some temp dir, e.g. /dev/shm/gnupg and use this dir as an argument to --homedir, and don't care about the agent at all.

  • [solved] Password no longer works at tty, but does work elsewhere

    Hi,
The other day I could no longer log in to a tty; "Login incorrect", but other users are fine. You're probably thinking I forgot my password, but I can confirm it is correct as I can log in as "user2", "su - jsteel", enter the password and it accepts it! After doing that I can run passwd (it asks for my current password) and it accepts it there too. I have not proceeded to change my password (which may well fix the issue) as I am interested to investigate what the problem is exactly.
Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?
    Thanks

/etc/shells showed /usr/bin/zsh whereas my $SHELL was set to /bin/zsh. Updating my shell to /usr/bin/zsh fixed the issue! I guess it didn't like the symlink, I wonder why.

  • [SOLVED] system no longer knows about xfs filesystems?!?

last Monday (11/14/2011) my system was able to mount an external drive with an xfs filesystem on it.
as of today (11/21/2011) it no longer recognizes xfs:
    % mount <my_dir>
    mount: unknown filesystem type 'xfs'
does anyone else have this problem?  i searched and didn't see anything in the forums.

  • [SOLVED] NetworkManager taking long time to show available wireless

I've been using Arch since May. I never had any problems connecting to wifi--my laptop has always connected automatically to my home wireless network within a few seconds of booting to my desktop. I use Network Manager, with the network-manager-applet on my panel.
All of a sudden, for no apparent reason, every time I boot now I cannot connect to the internet for several minutes: When I click on the panel applet there are no available wireless networks listed. It's only after several minutes (it varies slightly, usually after about 2 minutes) that available wireless networks finally show up in the applet.
The physical wifi switch on the laptop is securely in the "on" position. NetworkManager is running as soon as the system boots, and lsmod shows me that iwlwifi module is loaded. There are no errors in the journal. I haven't changed any network settings in a long time. Why is it suddenly taking NetworkManager several minutes to show me the available wireless networks after a reboot?
EDIT: During the time when I have no wireless networks available I get this:
    eileen@vaio ~ $ nmcli general status
STATE CONNECTIVITY WIFI-HW WIFI WWAN-HW WWAN
disconnected none enabled enabled enabled enabled
eileen@vaio ~ $ iwconfig # notice that wlp2s0 is not listed in the output!
    enp4s0 no wireless extensions.
    lo no wireless extensions.
    eileen@vaio ~ $ nmcli dev connect wlp2s0
    Error: Device 'wlp2s0' not found.
    eileen@vaio ~ $ sudo ip link set wlp2s0 up
    Cannot find device "wlp2s0"
After wireless networks finally show up in the applet, I get this:
    eileen@vaio ~ $ nmcli general status
STATE CONNECTIVITY WIFI-HW WIFI WWAN-HW WWAN
connected full enabled enabled enabled enabled
    eileen@vaio ~ $ iwconfig
    enp4s0 no wireless extensions.

Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
    Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:34 Missed beacon:0
    lo no wireless extensions.
    tun0 no wireless extensions.
Could the problem be that the kernel is taking a long time to detect my wireless card and designate it as wlp2s0 (which needs to happen before NetworkManager can do anything)? If so, how can I tell the kernel to prioritize looking for a wireless card when the system boots?

    [ 136.295360] iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: Radio type=0x1-0x3-0x1
Notice the firmware load failures at 15 and 75 seconds after boot, and the fact that it's not until 135 seconds that the firmware for the wireless card is finally loaded.
This suggests to me that the culprit is either the kernel (and/or its iwlwifi module) or the actual firmware. I will try different versions of these packages (linux, linux-lts, and linux-firmware) and will report back.

  • [solved] pacman no longer shows download progress of packages

Just in the last few days, download progress is no longer shown.
Is this by design? It's kind of annoying in any case. Searched and didn't see other comments about it.

  • [Solved] Booting takes longer than usual

    Hi guys,
ran into a little problem here.
Hardware: Macbook 5,5 Arch on sdb which is a SDD, data stored on an HDD.
So since yesterday, the booting process takes very long for a SSD system. I don't really get any messages while booting, so i'm a little bit confused.
No USB devices connected, wired internet connection.
Here is the output from dmesg:
