SQL Discovery and 4001 Event ID

Hello :)
I see the following in the OpsMgr log
DiscoverSQL2005DBEngineDiscovery.vbs : The Query 'select * from __NAMESPACE where Name ='ComputerManagement''
returned an invalid result set.  Please check to see if this is a valid WMI Query.. Object required
To me the above syntax of the WQL query looks incorrect (leaving the query itself to one side) I believe the syntax should be
"select * from __NAMESPACE where Name ='ComputerManagement'"
i.e. open and close the query with double quotes
The reason I am I thinking this is (A) I am getting the above error in the OpsMgr log and (B) using PowerShell for example (we will take a different query, but the syntax is the same) you would type
Get-WmiObject -Query "select FreeSpace FROM win32_logicalDisk WHERE DeviceID='C:'"
So question is, is there a bug in the SQL MP (I am using version 6.3.173.0)
Any thoughts please?
Ernie

Hello Ernie,
I didn't find any bug related with this kind of error message. Could you paste the whole error message here? So I can help you to find some more accurate information.

  • How to Improve the Performance of SQL Server and/or the hardware it resides on?

    There's a particular stored procedure I call from my ASP.NET 4.0 Web Forms app that generates the data for a report.  Using SQL Server Management Studio, I did some benchmarking today and found some interesting results:
    FYI SQL Server Express 2014 and the same DB reside on both computers involved with the test:
    My laptop is a 3 year old i7 computer with 8GB of RAM.  It's fine but one would no longer consider it a "speed demon" compared to what's available today.  The query consistently took 30 - 33 seconds.
    My client's server has an Intel Xeon 5670 Processor and 12GB of RAM.  That seems like pretty good specs.  However, the query consistently took between 120 - 135 seconds to complete ... about 4 times what my laptop did!
    I was very surprised by how slow the server was.  Considering that it's also set to host IIS to run my web app, this is a major concern for me.
    If you were in my shoes, what would be the top 3 - 5 things you'd recommend looking at on the server and/or SQL Server to try to boost its performance?
    Robert

    What else runs on the server besides IIS and SQL ? Is it used for other things except the database and IIS ?
    Is IIS causing a lot of I/O or CPU usage ?
    Is there a max limit set for memory usage on SQL Server ? There SHOULD be and since you're using IIS too you need to keep more memory free for that too.
    How is the memory pressure (check PLE counter) and post results.
    SELECT [cntr_value] FROM sys.dm_os_performance_counters WHERE [object_name] LIKE '%Buffer Manager%' AND [counter_name] = 'Page life expectancy'
    Check the error log and the event viewer maybe something bad there.
    Check the indexes for fragmenation, see if the statistics are up to date (and enable trace flag 2371 if you have large tables > 1 million rows)
    Is there an antivirus present on the server ? Do you have SQL processes/services/directories as exceptions ?
    There are lot of unknowns, you should run at least profiler and post results to see what goes on while you're having slow responses.

  • How to find out the failed sql command and its data from DEFERROR

    Hi,
    has anybody a procedure or some other possibilities to read the content of column USER_DATA of the advanced replication view DEFERROR in order to find out the failed sql command and its column values?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Vishwa,
                 The control would be something like this for navigation in Get_p_xxx method u mention as link and u mention a event name which gets triggered on the click of this hyperlink. So your GET_P_XXX method would have the following code:
    CASE iv_property.
        WHEN if_bsp_wd_model_setter_getter=>fp_fieldtype.
          rv_value = cl_bsp_dlc_view_descriptor=>field_type_event_link.
        WHEN if_bsp_wd_model_setter_getter=>fp_onclick.
          rv_value = 'EXAMPLE'.
    Now you have to create a method as EH_ONEXAMPLE at your IMPL class and within which you would give an outbound plug method. Within the outbound plug the target data would be filled in the collection and window outbound plug would be triggered.
    This is a huge topic and  i have just mentioned you basic things.
    Regards,
    Bharathy.

  • Using databases and container events?

    I'm having trouble finding documents show how one should use databases and listen for container events? I'm using Berkley Java DB. I'll need all my remote object to have access to the database. How do I pass that in? Custom adapters? Also, when Tomcat shuts down I need to close the database, how would this be down? Custom adapters? So I may be answering my own question, but I'm asking cause I really don't see anything in the documentation that points this out. It really looks like I'd be using singletons and factories for this. I could register a Servlet or Servlet Context to listen for Tomcat events, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask others using Blaze, as I'm very new to it. Thanks.

    So how would you tell Blaze to use this? Is there something you put into the config file? My thoughts on all this is to use PicoContainer to manage all services then create an adapter to inject all resources when creating remote objects. But this seems a little heavy if Blaze can do all this for me. The adapter seems like the injection point to me. Is that not what it's used for? Or is using it like that bad practice under Blaze? I've read all I can find on Blaze, so either it's missing docs, or I'm not finding them all. If I'm missing them, by all means let me know where to go. I don't want to ask questions that are already answered in documents else where.

    I think it's mainly in JavaDocs but here's a sample I have where I check to make sure the HSQLDB is running as the BlazeDS starts up:
    import java.sql.Connection;
    import java.sql.SQLException;
    import flex.messaging.config.ConfigMap;
    import flex.messaging.services.AbstractBootstrapService;
    public class DatabaseCheckService extends AbstractBootstrapService
        // This is called right before server starts up.
        public void initialize(String id, ConfigMap properties)
            Connection c = null;
            try
                // Check that the database is running...
                c = ConnectionHelper.getConnection();
                // ... if yes return
                return;
            catch (SQLException e)
                System.out.println("DB is not running!");
            finally
                ConnectionHelper.close(c);
    // This is called as server is starting.
        public void start()
            // No-op
    // This is called as server is stopping.
        public void stop()

  • Moved iPhoto library to EHD and lost events, ratings, other info

    Hi, I just moved my iPhoto Library to an external drive to free up space on my full mac book internal drive and it didn't transfer any of the events, ratings, or other info I had made over the years. I used the export library function from my old library, closed iPhoto, opened it again holding the option key, created a new library on the EHD and then imported the library. I worked, I can see the pictures fine it's just that I now have 15,000 pictures over 6+ years in one big event. I wasn't suprised to lose my edits because I chose to export as the original file (would rather have the RAW than the post processed JPEG). is this decision the cause of my problem?
    much thanks,
    Lou

    The cause is you did it wrong - exporting does not maintain the library structure - the iPhoto library is a SQL database and must always be treated as a single entity
    Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
    And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
    And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

    Because of the Change/Changing changes in VideoPlayer, we need to also listen for a CHANGE as well as the CHANGE_END, CHANGE_START, THUMB_PRESS, and THUMB_RELEASE events.
    Also, when clicking on the track and animating, the scrubbar's playedArea should move along with the thumb.  We do this by using pendingValue, rather than value in updateSkinDisplayList().

    My first observation is that you don't reraise the error in the CATCH handler. That is bad, because it makes the proceedure fail silently which may be very difficult to troubleshoot.
    The version numbers for Change Tracking are indeed database-global. MIN_VALID_VERSION can be different for different tables, if they have different retention periods. But if they all have the same retention period, it seems likely that MIN_VALID_VERSION
    would increase as the database moves on.
    I'm not sure about your question Can we use the CHANGE_TRACKING_CURRENT_VERSION even though we want to download subset of data from the table (only records matching for one data_source_key at a time). Where would you use it? How would you use
    it?

  • Unable to capture startup and shutdown event of Photoshop in automation Plugin.

    Hi,
    I am creating an automation plugin and I want to register some events. I have seen listener plugin sample to register event in startup and unregister event in shutdown. I have used same code in my plugin but I am unable to capture the startup nad shutdown event of Photoshop. On clicking the menu item of my plugin the calls come inside the AutoPluginMain but during the startup or shutdown of plugin, the calls does not come inside the AutoPluginMain.
    I am unable to detect the cause of the problem. Can someone please giude me??
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Tom,
    Thanks for the suggestion.
    Yes, I am working on Windows. As you suggested, I compiled .rc file but the compile option for .r file was disabled. After compiling the .rc file, I again rebuild the complete project and tested my build. But still I was not able to achive the desired result.
    Any other thing that I need to do to make it work?
    Thanks

  • When I sync my iPod to my MacBook through iTunes new events do not show up and old events are not deleted. I am using Snow Leopard  and not iSync.

    I am using Snow Leopard on a MacBook. I have an iPod touch 3G. I do not use iSync it Mobile Me. When I sync my iPod through iTunes new events on my iPod do not show up on my Mac and old events do not delete. I have read help instructions that include deleting the data on the iPod. The iPod has the correct data and the Mac does not so I have not followed those instructions. I need help as the only reason I bought the Mac was to be able to sync, back up, view and print my calendar. Currently it is useless. If only Apple could have learned from the elegance of the Palm software.

  • SQL Timeouts and Blocking Locks

    SQL Timeouts and Blocking Locks
    Just wanted to check in and see if anyone here has feedback on application settings, ColdFusion settings, JBOSS settings or other settings that could help to limit or remove SQL Timeouts and blocking locks on SID's.
    We're using MS SQL 2000 with JBOSS and IIS5.
    We've been seeing the following error in our logs that starts blocking locks in SQL:
    java.sql.SQLException: [newScale] [SQLServer JDBC Drive] [SQLServer] Lock request time out period exceeded.
    Once this happens, we're hosed until we remove the blocking SID in SQL.  These are the connections to the application.
    Any feedback would be great.  Thanks!

    Hi
    This is your exact solution:
    Select a.username, a.sid, a.serial#, b.id1, c.sql_text
    From v$session a, v$lock b, v$sqltext c
    Where b.id1 in( Select distinct e.id1
    from v$session d , v$lock e
    where d.lockwait = e.kaddr ) and
    a.sid = b.sid and
    c.hash_value = a.sql_hash_value and
    b.request =0;
    Thanks

    What is the difference between SQL Explain and SP Explain? And why would they suggest a different index is being used for the same statement in the same trace?

  • What is the diffrence between sap events and application events

    Hi all,
    what is the diffrence between sap events and application events.Can any one tell me with examples.
    regards,

    Hi,
    Look at this,
    <b>System Events (Default)</b>
    The event is passed to the application server, but does not trigger the PAI. If you have registered an event handler method in your ABAP program for the event (using the SET HANDLER statement), this method is executed on the application server.
    Within the event handler method, you can use the static method SET_NEW_OK_CODE of the global class CL_GUI_CFW to set a function code and trigger the PAI event yourself. After the PAI has been processed, the PBO event of the next screen is triggered.
    The advantage of using this technique is that the event handler method is executed automatically and there are no conflicts with the automatic input checks associated with the screen. The disadvantage is that the contents of the screen fields are not transported to the program, which means that obsolete values could appear on the next screen. You can work around this by using the SET_NEW_OK_CODE method to trigger field transport and the PAI event after the event handler has finished.
    <b>Application Events</b>
    The event is passed to the application server, and triggers the PAI. The function code that you pass contains an internal identifier. You do not have to evaluate this in your ABAP program. Instead, if you want to handle the event, you must include a method call in a PAI dialog module for the static method DISPATCH of the global class CL_GUI_CFW. If you have defined an event handler method in your ABAP program for the event (using the SET HANDLER statement), the DISPATCH method calls it. After the event handler has been processed, control returns to the PAI event after the DISPATCH statement and PAI processing continues.
    The advantage of this is that you can specify yourself the point at which the event is handled, and the contents of the screen fields are transported to the application server beforehand. The disadvantage is that this kind of event handling can lead to conflicts with the automatic input checks on the screen, causing events to be lost.
    Hope u understood.
    Thanks&Regards,
