Terribly frustrated

i just bought contribute cs4 and installed it onto my i-mac OS 10.4.11 with 1GB memory.  i'm having a number of problems right away, the main one is that the program quits unexpectedly when i hit the publish button.  i've tried uninstalling and re-installing the program but the problems continue to occur.  we're unable to reach any customer service.  help...  does anyone have an ideas?

  • Arrgh! Is anybody else having problems with the Adobe Acrobat open source approach to handling PDF files? I am getting as many as three crashes and full reboot per day and the delays are terribly frustrating.

Do I have a registry problem?
Every time I open a PDF file my local Adobe Acrobat (6.0) installation opens AND the file displays in Firefox (v. 4.0.1). When I close the PDF file it tells me other PDF files are open and asks if I'm sure I want to close Acrobat.
The process is messy and somewhere, before too long there is a memory error that causes the whole system to crash.
Is anybody else having this problem? Does anybody have any idea how to fix the conflict?

  • I just upgraded from i-tunes 10 to i-tunes version 11.1.3 in order to sync my i-phone.  All my libraries now come up now as one combined library, which makes it frustrating  and difficult to find my songs.  Can I have both the 10 and the new 11.1.3 on ?

I had to upgrade  to i-tunes 11.1.3  from my old i-tunes 10  so that my i-phone could get synced to i-tunes. I used to have several i-tunes libraries on my computer for various subjects.  Like for movies, bird recordings, and  songs I wrote myself. Now when I open i-tunes all the libraries open up at once in one library, it is completely reorganized,  making it almost impossible to find my old songs, playlists, movies, etc.  I just got done organizing my libraries, and now its all confused and Im terribly frustrated. How can I get my old organization back, and is it possible to have several libraries again, or both the old and new i-tunes on the same hard drive? Anyone have any advice how to organize my new i-tunes ?

What a waste of space to paste the code.

  • IWeb 1.1  Still is TERRIBLE

Wonderful. I download iWeb 1.1 with all of the shiny new features, such as background publishing, faster pages, more reliable uploading, comments in blogs and podcasts.
All well and good. Except for the reliable publishing part. Apple, quite frankly, you s*ck. The same problem of iWeb having problems correctly calculating the disk quota for publishing to iWeb is STILL there. I haven't been able to publish my website all morning.
Unreliable, unusable, and can't recomend this. Avoid iWeb people it is terrible.

Everytime I complain about Apple's glaring lack of quality assurance and testing on a new product or release, I get all kinds of flack. Things like "It works for me, if you can't say anything constructive don't say it, what do you expect for something so cheap."
I expect something that JUST WORKS. Isn't this supposed to be the Macintosh way, and the very thing that Apple touts as being a benefit of their system over other OS or platform choices? Isn't this why we pay a premium for their all-in-one solutions, hardware and OS, rather than buying a tinker-toy Dell and cobbling together some sort of workflow?
When the Apple stuff works, I will be the first to talk up how great it is. Believe me, there is nothing better, integration-wise than the iLife package. Being able to uniformly access and manipulate media, be it music, photos, video, written word, and easily share it in the form of web pages, DVD's, photo books, greeting cards, what have you, is wonderful. It is a joy to use, and really frees my creativity.
I remember years ago when software came out, a developer would not DREAM of releasing the thing with any show-stopping bugs. The market was smaller, it was simpler times, and the consumers would not have tolerated it. NOW everyone gives companies such as Microsoft, and yes, even our beloved Apple a free pass when their xx.0 versions are simply riddled with problems that render the software either useless, or a nightmare to use. The ONLY reason software companies get away with this crap is because the consumers enable this behavior, shrugging off poor quality software with a "nice effort guys, hopefully you will fix its problems in the xx.1 release." The fact of the matter is that we early adoptors are being taken advantage of by software developers to essentially bankroll their testing efforts to shake out the final bugs, bugs which SHOULD have been eliminated prior to the software's release, by rigorous quality assurance and testing practices. Software SHOULD NOT be judged on good intentions. It should be judged on how well it does its job.
Apple has been well-aware of the publishing problems with iWeb since day one. The thing has been flakey for some users when attempting to do the "insanely great" functionality so proudly touted at MacWorld last year. I was unable to publish anything for a full ten days after purchasing the product, and I was livid.
Periodically I run into a publishing issue with the thing where it will not upload to my iDisk. I will get strange disk quota errors, or even more cryptic problems.
I work as a software developer. You can be SURE that one of the things I would have attempted to address in the point release, and one of the things that I would have placed VERY HIGH on my testing plan, would be the behavior of the software publishing functionality. If this is not 99% reliable, I would darn sight hold the product back until I was sure it worked. Apple has been told about this issue over and over again. I personally have talked to technical support AND customer relations about this issue. Is it a server thing? If that is the case, as a developer, I would be darned sure to test the software under a load, and simulate lack of server responsiveness and produce MEANINGFUL error messages to the end-user to indicate server problems.
And yes, it comes down to how this thing impacts my work. I do freelance video work, and use .mac to publish previews of my edited videos for client approval. In general, this works well, albeit terribly slow due to the quirks of .mac. Twice now in the past month I have had to call my client and apologize that I could not get my edits posted for their perusal BECAUSE iWeb crapped out on me. I ended up having to grit my teeth, and either FedEx a DVD, or use the old homepage tools to get the work posted. This is not the so-called "Macintosh Way."
I happily downloaded the new update to iWeb, with all of the great new features added to blogging, and supposedly speed-optimized graphic handling. And proceed to render my publishing efforts useless, with the same error that I had reported multiple times, that had been discussed in these forums multiple times, and still, glaringly obvious, present in the software.
    This is terribly frustrating.

  • Terribly slow wireless connection.

hi, I have a wireless B router model BEFW11S4 ver. 4. My wireless connection says that it is usually "good" or "very good", but when browsing the web i get painfully slow speeds. When i reset the router and go into the settings and restore my network settings my connection speeds are fast again for about 10-20 minutes before it is painfully slow again. This is terribly frustrating. can anyone please help me, i would appreciate it! thanks, mike

There are many causes for poor wireless connections, and many solutions:
First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, wireless speakers, and your neighbor's wireless network. In rare cases, Bluetooth devices can interfere. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
Also, try to locate the router about 4 to 6 feet above the floor, in an open area. Do not locate it behind your monitor or near other computer equipment or speakers. The antenna should be vertical.
Also, in the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use. If your current network is not listed, enter its info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".
If the above does not fix your problem, download and install the latest driver for your wireless card.
Some users have reported improved wireless performance by switching from WEP to WPA encryption.
If you still have trouble, download and install the latest firmware for your router. After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch. If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
    Hope this helps.

  • Terrible redesign

Wow - first time back here in a while - ugh.  The new UI it absolutely terrible - the low information density design trend needs to die a quick death.  It's a heck of a lot less efficient, and combining the search and post UI components into a single 'ask' field is terribly frustrating (does anyone know how to filter the results to one forum?).
Big thumbs down on this one.  Bring back the basic forum pattern that's been around for decades.  If you're going to tweak it, make it better, not worse.  Not everyone has the attention span of a gnat (looking at you twitter and facebook).  Forums have a dual purpose - interaction and knoweldgebase.  The new design doesn't do either one very well.

We have a Kurt and a Kirk chiming in here, so other folk need to be a bit more careful in who they are asking nearly rhetorical questions
I tend to answer to Curt/Kurt; I'm willing to bet that Kurt responds to Kirk.
FWIW, I was 13 years and 10 months old when Star Trek (TOS) premiered.  I was tired of being called Captain Kirk by the time I turned 14.
Anyhoo, I think Apple Inc. is primarily concerned with Mammon these days.  I expect I'll have to find "third-party opportunities" if I want any kind of credible support for my labs (4 labs with nearly 100 10.9.5 machines for the computer science department of a university renowned for its water tower).  All I really want from these discussion communities is a simple way to browse the old Apple Remote Desktop area--without wading through a bunch of dreck.

  • Windows Vista not recognizing my new 160GB ipod classic

I'm having a terrible time getting Windows Vista or itunes to recognize my 160GB ipod classic (ipod software version 1.0.3 PC). I've spent the last two days going through the 5 Rs (4 or 5 times, now)... updated all the USB drivers... reassigned my slave drive letter to make sure there's no conflict... nothing is working.
The ipod is seen in the Device Manager as an "unknown device", but that's it.
The "USB Mass Storage Device" and "Apple ipod Controller" are listed under the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" and all drivers are up to date.
When I try to update and install the driver for the "unknown device", it automaticly searches windows and the internet, but finds nothing. When I point it towards my C:\Windows\System32 folder (as suggested elsewhere) it locates a driver... but encounters an "unknown error" when installing.
Absolutely nothing works! I'm not new to itunes, ipods or working with Windows Vista. This is terribly frustrating as I now have a $350 paperweight! Ironiclly, I just sold and sent off my 5g 60GB (WORKING!) ipod, too!
    Ugggggghhhhhhhh!!!
    Please, please, please help!

Update: (Not that anything is fixed yet)
Deleting infcache1 (as suggested elsewhere) had no effect... nor did moving around the usbappl.inf files forom the file repository as described here: http://teknobabble.wordpress.com/200...er-a-solution/
Vista just keeps asking for a driver and when I point it towards one... runs into an error when intalling. The hotfix provided adressing this exact issue (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940199) hasn't worked nad I get an error saying "This update doesn't apply to your system". O Rly!?! Hmmmm... Windows Vista 32... exact same error when mounting my ipod. Sure SOUNDS like it SHOULD!
Tried this fix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925196/en-us but actually found the CD/DVD upper and lower filters in a different key: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. Still no joy, though. Starting itunes just gives an error message saying it requires the registry entry to burn CD's and asks that I re-install itunes. Attempts to connect prior to reinstalling (since it still runs) have no effect.
Tried restarting itues service http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307078 but it just hangs. Reinstalling and restarting has no effect.
It just kills me that I can see the ipod connected in the Device Manager ("unknown device") and in Computer Management/Storage/Disc Management ("Rmovable Disc 1" with 148 GB).
So frustrating. This is the first problem I've run into with Vista that has stumped me for more than 24-hours and has really got me feeling stupid.

  • How to send quiz results to a web page?

Okay, this should have taken 2 minutes, not 2 hours. Very frustrating. Here is the situation:
    * Downloaded Captivate 5 Trial Version
    * Created based quiz (which took forever to figure out how to set the correct answers -- HORRIBLE user interface for setup, but that is another issue)
    * I want the results sent to a web page. I will code the web page & database calls, etc. to handle the information (I am a web developer). Just need the information sent somewhere!
    Several big issues here:
    1. When setting up a URL for the "Pass or Fail", nothing happens. User not taken anywhere. No "Post Results" button shown. The Captivate file just ends and that's it. ??
    2. Finally figured out that I needed the "Internal Server" option chosen to have a Post Results button shown. Okay.
So when I click Post Results (after answering the 5 questions correctly), I am shown a login box. Why? What is this for? This is not needed. I am going to an INTERNAL SERVER. It is none of Adobe's business what this person's name/email is. What gives? Okay... anyways, I enter my own Adobe login information. It then says "Connecting..." then I get a Status Message that says "Unknown Error". Keep in mind this will be used by a general audience, of which approximately 99.9% will not have an Adobe ID, nor should they need one.
How I can easily have the Captivate file redirect the user to pages like this: Confirm.aspx?pass=yes or Confirm.aspx?pass=no.
I don't need anything fancy. But I do need something that works. This is terribly frustrating and I'm about to say it just doesn't work. Please tell me I am wrong.
Thank for your time and for reading this.
    -Randy

The Quiz Results slide's Continue button actions are set under Quiz Preferences > Pass or Fail > If Passing Grade etc. By default, the Continue button is set to just continue on to the next slide after the Quiz Results.
After the user clicks the Continue button on the Quiz Results slide any Pass/Fail actions you've set up there will be evaluated and executed.
So if the user achieved a passing score, and you set up an action such as Go to URL in Current Window for that case, then the user should find themselves redirected to that URL.  If there was a different action for Failure, and the user failed, then that should happen.  But either of these will only happen after the Continue button is clicked.
I tested this by setting www.google.com as the go to URL and it worked.  To see if the URL is the issue, try using another URL that you know everyone can get to.  If that works, try to find out why the URL you want to use is not working.  If no URL works, something else is interfering with the action.

  • Dell Venue 11 Pro and Inspiron 15

I have had nothing but headaches with the Venue 11 Pro  It looked like such a great tool to use on the go, but has been terrible frustrating.  I returned the first one I ordered because it completely stopped  booting up.  Now, the replacement they sent is doing the same and refusing to take a charge.  I had asked initially to exchange for a regular laptop, but Dell convinced me to try again.
I have used Dell for many years, but have been utterly disappointed in the products over the last few year.  I will be looking at other brands from this point forward.  Inferior products all the way.  I recently ordered an Inspiron 15 and it's a dud!

    Hello,
I've exactly the same problem. I've also the model number K10A001 and the current Firmware 0.41.9, and it is also not possible for me to flash the docking station.
This is also problematic because only one monitor of the two connected monitors works. An this monitor shows only a picture, if it is plugged, after the dockingstation and the Venue 11 Pro has been started.
I think there is maybe an improved flash utility required in order to allow to flash the docking station? If some one had succeeded please respond.
    Thank you

  • Yoga 2 Pro - Sleep mode issue

    Hi All,
I've been experience troubles with issues ralated to sleeping.
    Sometimes it just sleeps well.
Sometimes my Y2P sometimes won't go sleep(insomnia???). The screen goes off but the fan doesn't stop and the keyboard backlit doesn't go off. And whatever I do won't wake it up in this circumstance, for example hitting a key on the keyboard, hitting the power button, or touch the screen. I have to restart to enter the OS. (FYI VirtualBox may cause this problem but I was not running it. I don't even have it installed.)
And sometimes it does go sleeping and can be waken up, but during the sleep the fan doesn't stop and the machine becomes very hot. This seems to happen only under the power manager high performance mode but I'm not sure. Twice I just closed my laptop and went to bed. and left the poor Y2P baking-hot overnight. As a result, the battery capacity estimate in the power manager is now 'Normal'. I believe it was 'Excellent' or 'Good' when I first received it. (FYI the capacity is now 54760mWh.)
I really love this machine. Yellow issue is not a killer but the sleep problem does troubles me a lot. I'm not able to return it because I just passed the 15-day return period. Any suggestion to solve those problem, folks?
    -K

I have observed two related issues on my Yoga 2 Pro. In agreement with a later poster to this thread, it will occasionally shut down (or crash?) rather than sleep. This happens occasionally when I have a dozen apps up in a configuration that I'd really like to go back to rather than have to set up again. I'm guessing this issue, shutting down improperly, could be a problem getting an app or service to sleep properly, giving up, and dying. One of the reasons I upgraded to the Yoga 2 Pro is that my old Sony Vaio did this same thing and I assumed a new machine would have the quirks worked out. Perhaps it's a Windows problem, but still should be addressed.
I have also found several times that I will take my Yoga 2 Pro out of my bag after hours of sitting and the two lights indicating that it is running will be lit solid with the laptop hot to the touch. I have no idea why a machine would turn itself on with the lid closed, even if the power button is bumped (which is very unlikely with its small size in a padded bag). I'd love for anyone at Lenovo to address whether this issue is known, common, being looked at? It's terribly frustrating to "start" with the battery half depleted because it's been busy generating heat in a confined place.

  • How can I play movies-MacPro-to my TV?

    Hello
I need some "simple" help regards playing QT movies directly from my Mac Pro to my TV.
Up until now, I have taken a arduous crazy route: I copy a movie to an external firewire drive; then connect that drive to my laptop (an older G4). Then I connect the laptop to my even older VCR, because it has RCA plug import/export ports - and that VCR is connected to my TV.
    Like I said, crazy!
I have been scouring the forums and keep reading about Radeon and ATI but I am at a loss as to how to match up what I have with what I am reading about.
When I use System Profiler, and select Hardware - Graphics/Displays. I see "NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT" at the top of the list. Beyond that, I'm dumb.
My TV is fairly new and has many ports for input. (Not sure which to tap into for my purposes).
I do have an Apple DVI to Video Adapter-for my laptop.
I don't know if I can use that to connect my Mac Pro (via RCA plugs or S-Video) to my TV.
When I search I mostly get wrong info - that is, no matter how I enter Mac Pro, I get back MacBook Pro.
But I do get some helpful info, as such: Use the DVI to Video Adapter to connect the DVI port on a Mac Pro (with ATI X1900 XT), MacBook Pro, or Mac mini to any S-video or Composite enabled device."
But...Duh. That brings me back up to the top of this post.
I try. Sometimes I succeed. And sometimes I just hope someone else has figured it out and is willing to help.
    noodlehead confoun..ddeD

    Yo Noodle-head,
I hope you get this message. Ya man, I have the same issue with Mac Pro-->Nvidia video card-->Apple DVI to video adapter kit-->s-video/composite cable-->my 20" TV-->watch my movies!!
I have done extensive research, spoken to tech reps at both Nvidia AND Apple, and I'm still terribly frustrated.
Basically, what I keep reading is that only ATI cards, not Nvidia cards, are able to DO TV using the DVI-->video adapter-->TV setup. However, every tech rep I've spoken to says it SHOULD work, but that they couldn't tell me why it won't. Additionally, the manual for my Nvidia card (the GeForce 8800 GT for Mac -- an upgrade model for pre 2008 Mac Pros -- not the same model that you use, but the same manufacturer, and I've come to believe that's what counts) states explicitly that the DVI-I port on this card (supports analog out) is *designed to work* with the Apple DVI to video adapter kit, purchased from the Apple store. /palmface
OK, so the Nvidia tech rep whom I spoke with was as baffled as I am, but he was willing to confirm an alternative solution: http://www.svideo.com/vga2videosmall.html My card shipped with a DVI-->VGA adapter, so this seems like a fairly sure-shot solution (DVI-->VGA adapter-->VGA to composite video and s-video converter-->TV). I'll likely return my Apple adapter and buy this device, though it costs more.
So, to conclude, have you come up with a functional solution, separate from your circuitous laptop-->vhs-->TV route since you posted, lol? I share your sentiment that, short of buying an Apple TV, this should be much simpler!

  • Importing a project FROM Premiere Pro to FCP - Any alternative to EDL ?

Hi, when I google this issue - trying to get a project from Adobe Premiere Pro (for instance CS4) to Final Cut I am always terribly frustrated to find only references to the fact that APP imports XML (and now in 4.01 with better support for Final Cut Pro XML). But APP only exports EDL, and that is a very limited platform for talking accross the programs. Does any one have a better solution? Is there any external software for converting an APP project into XML? Can anyone hint as to why Adobe doesn't include "export to xml" in the export menu (like Final Cut Pro so elegantly does) other than fear of people taking their projects and running away to Final Cut Pro (which doesn't make any sense at all, and is no way of dealing with users' needs). Because it would seem that they only want us to be able to move stuff from FCP to APP. But what about us, who desperately need to move in the other direction?! Any light on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers and a happy 2009.

+I would indeed like to do this test. To what email do I send a zipped file to?+
    http://www.automaticduck.com/contact/
+And also, if I may keep bothering you on this issue: Granted that APP projects are XML, still, Final Cut Pro projects and Avid Projects are NOT XML, they can just interact well with certain forms of XML (type 1,2,3 etc, but apparently not prproj), correct? (a curiosity)+
Correct, Final Cut Pro project files and Avid project and bin files are not XML. Final Cut Pro has the ability to export and import XML files that are formatted as XML. XML is a flexible file format, the files can web pages, preference files, document files, just about anything. Apple has defined an XML format that can be used to interchange project data with Final Cut Pro. For a lot of good reasons it doesn't make sense for third parties to write or read FCP project files directly so Apple developed a method to write and read project data through another format. XML is an excellent choice because it is so easy to work with, XML files are simply text, easily read and edited and written. Avid systems use another file format for interchange with other manufacturers, AAF. AAF is not XML.
A lot of editors first heard of "XML" via Final Cut Pro's use of it as an interchange format, so it isn't surprising that these editors equate XML with FCP. It is a bit pedantic of me to drive home the point, but I just want you to clearly understand the issue.

  • I share a Toshiba Qosmio with my fiance as our 'home' computer, i recently bought an iphone 4, he has a 4s why can i not sync my music to itunes? Is there a way to have 2 seperate accounts on iTunes using the same computer

My fiance and I share our home laptop, he is awaiting his new Mac arrival.  During this time I have sold my old laptop and used this one, Toshiba Qosmio.  When i plug my iphone 4 into iTunes and try to sync the music, it prompts a window that says if i sync music his, from his iphone 4s will override mine and erase my music.  Isn't there a way I can have 2 seperate accounts or just delete his, as he is getting a new one?  I have tried uninstalling although it still comes up to his account.  TERRIBLY FRUSTRATED!!!!  I am new to the iphone, as we were Droid users prior to this.  Thank you for any help
