Thunderbird crashes every time I try to attach a file

Every time I try to attach a file Thunderbird crashes as does Firefox when I try to use the online e-mail program at Yahoo O/S is windows 7 below is the error report.

Start *Windows'* safe mode with networking enabled

Still In Windows safe mode, start thunderbird in safe mode
