Development, Test, Acceptance, Production Set-up for ES2

Hi collegeau LC experts!,
At a client we have setup a server structure that consists of DTAP, so seperated server and LC instances for the various goals.
Now we are facing a need to get production data in sync with the other environments. This way we hopefully come across problems earlier during the development/ test cycle because we work with actual data.
I assume we have to copy: livecycle databases, content present in the Content Space etc. So how does this work in practice with running tasks in the workspace, unique identifiers of content in CS, other items like users and groups that are defined in the adminUI?
Whats your experience with copying/exporting/re-using data from the data from one LC environment to the other.?
Thanks in advance!
Best regards,
Rob

Thanks for you answers. I am trying to install the developer workplace on Windows 7 (64 bit OS) with SQL server 2008.
I get the following error
Running msiexec failed with return code 1603: Fatal error during installation.
Commandline was msiexec.exe /norestart /L sapmmcX86u.log /i sapmmcX86u.msi /qn
I check some sdn posts on this error but the solutions refer to updating MSI installer on Windows XP. no solution to windows 7
Any ideas...?

  • ESR role in different development, test, and production systems

    Hello,
I want to know the role of ESR in development, test, and production system. Do I have to install ESR in every seprate installated SAP CE machine??? or should It be centrally and development., test and production systems can use it?? Does software release process effects in the whole landscape??
does Test and Production system requires ESR??? or all used services are embed into released software SCA files to test and production system???
    Regards,
    Naeem

    Hey,
as far as I understood the ESR is a design time tool, i think  you don't need to have a productive instance.
I think it should be installed on your PI systems. And I would prefer to have at least a devel and a test installation, to
separate services on test machines from those who are running on productive systems.
as you can't differentiate the services by their name but just by their systems, you should have separate ESR Instances.
Nevertheless I think it could be possible to run only one ESR....
    Kind Regards

  • Sapf019 w/ productive setting on for company code - allows deletion

    Good afternoon SCNers,
I am having somewhat of an issue and was wondering if anyone has had the same. I have read here and online elsewhere that by setting company code to productive, I should not be able to delete master data with program SAPF019. But yet, the message "company code is productive" is only informative. I thought that it should be an error message. Do I have to set the message F7104 to an error from information?
Does anyone know why this would be occurring?
    Thx erik

There are standard individual transaction codes that are used to delete master data.  As I alluded to previously, you can execute KA04, KS04, KKPV, OK05, AS06 and some others to delete master data.  It is reasonable and justified to delete a record even if the company is productive.  ex: someone could mistakenly create a record and want to delete that record number so that it can be reused again, or created again immediately with the correct attributes.  Whether or not the company code is productive should not stand in the way of this.
To my knowledge, the treatment of the productive indicator is slightly different in different modules, but once it's productive, you can't execute the delete transaction data transaction codes such as OBR1, OKC3 and 0KE1.  In some other modules, setting the company productive also disallows further legacy data takeover postings.  But you should still be able to delete individual master data records.

  • Multiple projects and their promotion from Develop to Test to Production

A customer has an interConnect infrastructure running about 5 projects. Each project has a Development, a Test, an Acceptance and a Production environment.
This basically works, but is really cumbersome to maintain.
They want to reduce the number of Interconnect installations as much as possible to ease maintenance. The iConnect version is 10gR1.
As far as I can see there are two options:
    1) Put all projects into a single repository. You'd end up with only 4 InterConnect environments (Development, Test, Acceptance and Production)
    2) Put all hub schemas into a single DB
The first one is obviously our favourite, but can you promote a single project to a new environment (say, from Development to Test) without affecting the other projects in the same repository? How difficult (if possible) is this? What are the possibilities and risks?
What are the possibilities for option number 2?
I hope anybody can give me some advice.
    Arjan

Its slightly confusing about having multiple projects, the reason being the way Interconnect works is that it has a single database repository and when you create a project it is just a view on that repository. Therefore a project and a repository are essentially one and the same.
Therefore it would imply that if you have 5 separate projects then you also have 5 separate repository instances.
    In terms of your options:
    1) is the general way that most projects work. Lets say you have DEV, SYS, UAT, PROD. Therefore you'd generally have a repository instance for each env, therefore 4 repository instances, HUBDEV - for DEV env, HUBSYS for SYS env etc... These repositories would usually be in separate Oracle Instances although they could be on the same servers. Therefore the Hub schema for all, would be the normal one installed by the product, OAIHUB904. Then you would also have a single project for each repository. This repository would hold all the metadata for all your interfaces that go though this HUB instance.
As interfaces move through the various phases then you migrate between the different repositories, to move stuff from DEV to SYS etc...
    2) From my understanding, this is not much differnet to the above except you want to hold all the Hub schemas in a single database instance. This is possible by creating each schema with a differnet name, OAIHUB904DEV, OAIHUB904SYS etc... and you would need to change the necessary infrastructure ini files to use these new names. With this setup you would still have 1 project per repository but it would just point to the relevant schema.
Let me know if you have any more queries.
    Regards
    Stuart.

  • Setting timeout for all the web test scripts in the solution

    Hello,
I have around 16 web test scripts (using VSTS 2010 ultimate version) in my project (in a solution). By default the timeout set for each request is 60 sec. I need to increase the timeout to 180 sec. Currently, I am clicking on each request and modifying
the timeout parameter from the Properties window.
Is there any common setting for timeout available which would be acting across all the scripts?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
We only can set Timeouts for a separate request in Visual Studio Web Test. There is no way to set Timeout for all requests in VS IDE. But you can write you own logic code using
Timeout Property in a web test plugin to set Timeout for all requests in a web test.
About how to write a web test plugin, please see:

  • Setting password for Autologon Default user in registry

    Hi friends
I don't know is this the right forum to ask this question:
me along with my colleges are doing some exercises to improve our learnings, so we have setup a test lab which has a test DC & 10 test client computers running windows 8.1
as we know, when computers join to domain, the item related to Autologon is removed from netplwiz.
I know that to be able to use Autlogon feature in joined computers, we can restore the above item by creating the required items via any method like the following:
    $regpath="HKLM:\software\Microsoft\Windows NT \CurrentVersion\Winlogon "
New-ItemProperty -path $regpath -Name AutoAdminLogon -PropertyType String -Value "1" -Force
    $regpath="HKLM:\software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon"
New-ItemProperty -path $regpath -Name DefaultDomainName -PropertyType String -Value %USERDOMAIN% -Force
    $regpath="HKLM:\software\Microsoft\Windows NT \CurrentVersion\Winlogon "
New-ItemProperty -path $regpath -Name DefaultUsername -PropertyType String -Value “administrator” -Force
the above lines provide required info for Autologon, except the password of the user.because of this we have to sit at every test client & open up netplwiz & manually enter the password for default Autologon user.
is it possible to define the password for this user as well in the registry?  so that we add it to above lines & save them as a PS script & run that PS script on our test systems so that we don't have to sit at each test client
& manually set password for default user for Autologon.
I mean I need when we power on our test clients, they automatically login via domain administrator credentials & be ready to use
    thanks

The documentation for this might prove helpful:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc939702.aspx
    According to the above:
If you disable automatic logon by setting the value of AutoAdminLogon to 0, delete the value of
DefaultPassword, which is stored and displayed in the registry editor in plain, unencrypted text.
(Hint: I found this very quickly by searching for "autoadminlogon" using a search engine.)

  • License for testing and production systems

    Hi Experts
Can any one help me out on implementing license in my B1 System.
According to our contract we have licensed following user types:
    User Type
    Licensed
    AddOn Access License    25
    Professional User                5
Software Development Kit - Development Version 20
We have Test/development system in one hardware and Production system on different hardware. Please advice me how to request/allocate license for my test/development system and production system.
We tried creating a Test System in SAP Market place and requested license for test system. While requesting license for production system, it is found that the license is exceeded. In other words, developent system license also counted.
Please advice me on the best practices of B1 license implementation.
    Thanks and regards
    Ajith G

    Hi,
Our customer wants to Keep the production data secure. Developers and consultants should not have the access to it.
Then you have only two options:
1.Either you should maintain a standalone b1 server for the developers and consultants to test their solutions and scenarios.
2.Otherwise you can create users in sql studio for accessing only the test database.
So that as per your requirement
All configurations and sample data will be kept in a test environment where developers and consultants can do their work.Once everything is correct Admin will do the transfer to production.
Note:New users can be created in the sql studio under Databases-><Company Db>->Security->Users, Rt.click new user

  • Best practice for test to production

I actually only have one server for test and production, but the dev processes all point to development databases and the production processes will point to production databases.
The only real change is to make the JMS queue points to prod vs test. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to copy a complete process and change the name. That would work best for me.
    Any ideas?

Yes you can. With SOA 11g, you can create deployment profiles to change poperties during deployment. You can also build your own deployment mechanism, as I did.

  • Different disk space alarms for development machines vs. production machines

In vCOps 5.8 I used attribute packages to differentiate between production and development machines on alerting and monitoring for disk space alarms.  So if a production machine reached 95% utilization on a drive it would generate an alarm.  I set this up in an attributed package and assigned it to production machines.  I had a different attribute package assigned to development machines that would not create an alarm.  So when a production machine exceeded the 95% threshold I would get an email indicating I needed to take action.  I also had some different attribute packages assigned to some production machines that have chronically high disk space usage, but never reach the 100% utilization.  These wouldn't alarm at the 95% threshold but maybe at the 99% threshold.  In vROps I seem to have lost this ability which I'm not thrilled about.  It doesn't appear that you can set different monitoring thresholds for different machines.  So now after migrating to vROps I get alarms for development machines.  Is there anyway to setup different monitoring thresholds for different machines.  I know I could just put a development machine into permanent maintenance mode, but that doesn't really help me out with the ability to set different thresholds for production machines.

    Hi, rgcda.
    > Are you saying that I need to create new symptom definitions that I want to assign to development machines and then enable them in this specific policy in the Override Alert / Symptom Definitions?
When you define a symptom that triggers over 95% of disk space usage, the default threshold value of the symptom will be 95.
But if you want different threshold value of 99% for your development machines group with the same symptom definition,
you don't have to define another duplicated symptom but just override(modify) the threshold value of original symptom to 99 in the policy edit screen.
In other words, single symptom definition can have different threshold values in each policy.
    > Also for alert notifications would I have to create a new alert definition and enable it in is this specific policy?
Nope, you do not have to create a new alert in this case.
If a symptom threshold value changes via policy override, alerts which have that symptom will fire at different threshold value accordingly.
    > If I would have different symptom definitions for the same object are you saying I have to make the change in the KB you mentioned?
For instance if I want the C drive to be a critical alarm when it reaches 95% on this machine and a critical when it reached 99% on a different machine.
Nope, as you see in the above example, applying different threshold value to each machine can be done regardless of the metric you use is instanced or not.
The KB is about treating a metric that has many instances for a machine and you may need it for disk space usage.

    Ho-Sung.

  • Custom Set Types for Products

    Hello,
We have added some Z set types for our CRM Products and have created two Z tables for this. But even though we update these tables, we are not able to get the values for product on the screen.
Can someone tell me what all tables should be updated when we have cutsom Set Types in use?
    Rgds
    Priyanka

    Hi Priyanka,
I Guess you want the Values in the Ztable as F4 help values for the Z attributes in Z set types of the product.
To do the same plz follow the steps mentioned below:
    1) Identify the field(Attribute in Set type) for which you want the F4 help.
    2) Go to SE11. Select Data Type and enter the name of the Attribute value.
    3) Press Change
    4) Doble click on the Domain to go to the domain element associated to it.
    5) In domain element screen, go to Value Range Tab.
    6) In Value Range Tab, you have a Value Table field, Enter the ZTable from which you want the value to be populated in F4.
    7) Save and Activate the Domain element.
    Test the scenario.

  • What is the best home set up for a family to share/use apple products

Hi, I am relatively new to apple (have an iPad) and having been a PC user for years I was pleasantly surprised with the apple experience and am now trying to work out the best set up for me, my husband and young son as I am buying them both of them apple products this Christmas.  New Mac laptop/ ipad for hubby and then an ipod touch for my son oh and a new mac laptop for me. We are also thinking of moving from Blackberries to iPhones. Yes we seem to be hooked! but i am unsure about the home family set up and how to replace my PC network that I run off an 8TB server.
In reading the forums I keep seeing people talk about problems they have with two apple IDs and trying to merge them. I have also heard about a family ID allowing us to share apps legally.  I am really nervous of setting us up wrong and then having problems later and hence i am now looking for some advice on how to share as much as we can legally but also make usage practical and not invading each others privacy. thoughts so far:
Music - I think we are happy to share the same music and access using one ID (we currently don't buy much music from apple but have lots of CDs we share).
Photos - It would be nice to share photos - as long as my son or husband cannot accidentally delete photos of mine (which is my biggest concern). I currently load all camera photos onto my 8TB storage box as the network owner and my husband has full access to copy any photo to his laptop but can never delete the original copies by accident.
Apps - If possible i would like us to share these but they are cheap enough these days to separate if really needed. Would be good to share licence for pages etc though
cloud, contacts, facetime, email -  this is what is making me consider separate IDs or learning how to have multiple users in one apple ID - I do not want to have to share synced contacts with my husband. I have near 300 contacts now through work etc and he will not want them plus i will not want his or him being able to delete mine by mistake. and then for email and facetime, well I want to give him his privacy so I do not receive his messages etc. especially now that we are considering switching to iPhones
Then last but not least, i don't know the best solution for my son. he is only 7 years old so even though I don't want to pay for things again I don't want him being able to download "just any" app from the purchased icon in Appstore. Also, is there a child friendly setting to prevent him from viewing inappropriate content on the internet?
Appreciate I have asked a lot of questions here but I am looking for any genuine advice out there. Thank you in advance to any potential advisers.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You don't need to use the same ID on a device for iCloud and iTunes.
iCloud covers mail, contacts, calendars, reminders, notes, bookmarks, photostream, document syncing etc and for these I recommend you each have your own ID's, this will stop others from having access to and likely more importantly being able to edit or even delete your personal information.
Someone of Age needs to be responsible for an account, so for younger children you will need to create and be responsible for an account yourself but let the child use it.
For iTunes you could use a single account so everyone can share music and apps or you could use separate accounts (there are ways to share content between users, Apple provides homesharing to do this).
When choosing how to proceed with iTunes, it might be worth remembering that someday your children will reach 21 (or whatever age they feel they have become independent) and will likely want their own account, changing accounts later may make it difficult to access previous content.
Photostream now has shared albums, so you can share just what you want with others. Shared photos using shared albums cannot be deleted by others with different accounts, but if you all shared the same account they could be.
Facetime and messages can also use an ID independently of each other, iCloud and iTunes. Separate ID's are recommended for these, joint accounts can be problematic.
iTunes has parental controls for youngsters, however at 7, I suggest you don't reveal the password to him and enter it yourself when he needs to purchase something, otherwise you may receive unexpected bills.
