Total Broadband & New Version of McAfee ... Proble...

Hi All,
I was just wondering if anyone else was having the same problem as I am with the new version of BT Net Protect Plus and Internet Explorer 8 running on Windows XP operating system.
Once the new version of McAfee downloaded, I couldn't get online through IE8 but the broadband connection was fine.  Once I had uninstalled the new McAfee, or reverted to using the old version, everything was fine.
The bods on the Broadband helpline are telling me that it's my operating system and IE8 that's become corrupted, but it seems to be the McAfee interfering with it.
Thanks in advance for any replies

Hi Softwaif
I would try re-install the new version.  Everything should work fine IE8.
Let me know how you get on.
Cheers

  • At 60 and totally confused w/version . Not  clue with how to use it and how to change it. My question - If a new version of i-tunes can be offered why not the older version as being a choice? Too simple or just impossible to do? I hate to drop i-tunes.

At 60 years of age and totally challenged by todays technology I find it impossible to understand i-tunes Version 11. Don' ask me to try to try go back to a earlier version ( as much as I would like to). I have read some of the advice given, as well as intended as it is, I don't understand the process. I don't want to drop i-tune but I will. I am sure my library is not as large as many others who use it but it is just as important to me. This really saddens me.
I do have two question if some one can help me. First, someone mentioned that if I go to previous restore point this might correct it. Yes or no? Secondly, if Apple can offer us a new version to download why can't they offer an older version to download. Too simple or impossible to do.

You can still drag and drop a song into a Playlist, in the same manner as before. Simply use the left-click of your mouse to select-and-hold the song (left-click-and-hold, don't release the click) and drag it to and then drop it (release the click) into the Playlist you want. (You cannot drop it into a Smart Playlist, you can only drop it into a Regular Playlist.)
... and here's a screenshot dragging the song "Lazy Orbit" into the Regular Playlist "Sat 4th June 2011". A small + symbol also appears in the drag, but it doesn't show up on screenshots. If the move is forbidden, a red slash through a red circle appears instead of the + symbol.
As for the Albums thing; in the Column Browser, right-click anywhere in the Column Browser header (see my screenshots in my previous post) and a menu appears. Deselect Albums on that menu to remove Albums from the upper Columns:
... and for the columns underneath (with the songs list etc.), right-click on that header bar and once again, deselect Albums from the menu that appears. The Albums column will then be removed from the lower columns list.

Well, my advice to you is: do not think about what you think iTunes cannot do, instead, think about what you want to achieve - and then work out how to achieve it.

  • When will Firefox have a solution for the 'McAfee site advisor' problem in the new version 5 of the browser?

I love Firefox and always keep it updated with the latest version, but the new version 5 keeps saying that McAfee Site Adviser will be disabled when I upgrade. So, I haven't downloaded the upgrade. I also love and depend on my site adviser and I'm not willing to loose it. Is Firefox working on a solution for this problems and if so, when do they expect to have a solution in place?

  • I can't install mcafee siteadvisor  the installer stops and says, "A newer version of SiteAdvisor is already installed on your Mac."

I have a late 2013 Macbook pro with retina display running OS X (Mavericks) my siteadvisor had recently grayed out and was not protecting against sites so I uninstalled my acfee internet security suite (provided by Cox with my account) and the siteadvisor altogether. I then reinstalled the Mcafee internet security and went to download the siteadvisor website. Once I went to download the siteadvisor installer stops and says "A newer version of SiteAdvisor is already installed on your Mac." How do I get my siteadvisor installed and back working again.

The download, if you mean this one :
    https://sadownload.mcafee.com/products/SA/mac/website/McAfeeSiteAdvisor.dmg
includes the plugin, as well as other software.

  • Well isn't this new version a total abortion...

It has messed all my tracks up, and in trying to soft them out, I can not add album art without first downloading an image to my local computer, and even then it never stuck, why do these Muppets insist on breaking things that work perfectly well? Are the iSheep not happy unless they have a new version of everything every three months.  This update was just pointless and  a big step backwards.

The iTunes 12 Get Info dialog lacks right-click context menus (at least for now) but it still accepts most standard keyboard shortcuts and drag & drop actions.
    Delete Artwork
On the artwork tab of Get Into, tap the image in question, use Backspace or Ctrl+X. Delete doesn't work.
Or, tap the image at the top left of Get Info, this time use Backspace or Delete, it is Ctrl+X that doesn't work.
    Add Artwork
Select artwork, press Ctrl+C to copy, tap the center of the Artwork tab, press Ctrl+V to paste.
Or, select artwork, press Ctrl+C to copy, tap the small image area at the top left, press Ctrl+V to paste.
Or, you can drag & drop to, or sometimes from, the same locations.
You can also copy artwork from the Get Info dialog to Windows Explorer with the keyboard shortcuts.
If the source image is on a web page right-click and use Copy Image rather than copy. (With Chrome I get a one pixel wraparound so tend to go for a temporary local copy anyway - not sure whose bug this is, but it isn't new.)
If you have multiple images embedded drag the one you want to be the primary artwork to the leftmost position.
    Replace/Remove All Artwork
The top left image box can be used to add or delete art from multiple tracks. In either case all existing artwork in all tracks is replaced/removed.
    Old Style Get Info Dialog
Select some items, right-click, hold down shift, then click Get Info from the context menu. (Use alt/option on a Mac)

  • Is 114Kbps acceptable for BT TOTAL BROADBAND ?

Earlier this year after complaining about our poor internet connection speed, BT confirmed our phone line was fine and an engineer swapped us onto another cable between our house and the exchange.

Thank you both for replying, it never ceases to amaze me how helpful people are ... I also help on motorcycle and scooter boards.
I couldn't reply earlier due to a medical emergency !
Anyway I took IMJOLLYs advice and removed the orange bell wire connected to terminal 3.
I dialled 17070 option 2 using an analogue phone and it seemed very quiet, no crackles pops or whistles !
My Home Hub does not have a hub phone.
I normally keep the Home hub on line 24/7.
I have for the time being just connected through the TEST SOCKET to eliminate any house wiring
You will see from the full stats below that at 8pm last night the speed was 103kbps whereas at 8am this morning the speed is 1.6mbps !
My IP Profile is now 1750 Kbps whereas yesterday it was - 135 Kbps - any thoughts on this good news ?
As soon as the medical emergency is over I will be able to look at the house wiring to the socket.

  • I downloaded the new version of iTunes and now it will not open.

I opened my iTunes a day ago, and the "Download new version" came up.
I went and downloaded it and ever since iTunes will not open no matter what, I have tryed many ways to open it and it still wont open.
When I go to log off, shutdown, or restart my computer, it will not. I can only shut it down and I have to do it maunally. But if I wait around for it to shutdown, ect. a "Ending Program" annoucement comes up and has the iTunes icon, but for the name of the progrom it is only a bunch of little and big boxes.
I do not know what to do, I have unistalled iTunes and Quicktime, then installed it again and still nothing. I even tryed to do the "Repair" that comes up when you already have it installed and still nothing.
Can anyone help me? Or does anyone else have this problem?

hey peeps i got a possible answer to our prolems. i contacted apple support and this is what they gave me:
Using MSCONFIG to troubleshoot conflicts in Windows
In Windows, some background processes can cause issues for other programs and processes. These conflicts can prevent applications such as iTunes and QuickTime Player from working correctly, opening, or even installing. You might be able to resolve these conflicts by disabling some items using the System Configuration Utility (MSCONFIG) in Windows XP. This utility is not included with Windows 2000.
Important: Disabling third-party System Services and Startup Items can prevent some software or OEM hardware on your computer from working correctly. For example, this can affect the CD/DVD control buttons on portable computers.
    1. On the Start menu, click Run. A Run window (command prompt) appears.
    2. Type msconfig in the Open field and click OK. The System Configuration Utility opens.
    3. Click the General tab.
    4. Select the "Selective Startup" option.
    5. Deselect the "Load Startup Items" checkbox.
    6. Click the Startup tab.
    7. Select the "iTunesHelper" and "qttask" checkboxes in the list.
    8. Click the Services tab.
    9. Make sure that "Hide All Microsoft Services" is selected.
    10. Click Disable All.
    11. Select the iPodService checkbox in the list.
    12. Click OK.
    13. Click Restart.
If following these steps resolves the issue, you may want to use the System Configuration Utility to turn on the third-party System Services and Startup Items one or a few at a time (restarting your computer after turning on the item or items) to identify which System Service or Startup Item is causing the conflict. You can turn all of them back on by selecting the Normal Startup option under the General tab of the System Configuration Utility window, but please note that this may cause the issue to recur.

  • Why is 8.0 asking to install when I have a newer version

I use a Dell Vostro 1520 laptop with Windows 7 OS.  I have the newest version of Adobe Reader installed and working properly.  However, every time I start up, I am asked to install Adobe 8.0 but the installation fails because I have the newer version.  How do I stop this start-up request and why does it happen?

I have now checked the start up folder and it is not there.  According to the screen that asks if I want to allow Adobe Reader 8 to make changes to my computer, it's located at c:\users\%username%\AppData\Local Low\Netopsystems\temp\Reader 8.0\setup.exe.  However, when I check for that in Total Commader, it's not there.

  • This is the best method to install a new version of Studio!

Do it cleanly. By this I mean create a new fresh startup disk for the install of Studio. Whether for Studio 1 ,2 or 3, trust me. this method will get you to a really stable FCS system.
    1. Backup everything you want to keep if you're using the same drive you've been using as your startup disk. Clone it if you'd like to save time digging around for the files you want to keep. Or buy a new drive for your tower and use it as a startup disk, keeping the earlier one until you've transferred all you need from it. (I have no less than 3 startup disks for my single tower here) One is a 250 gig drive, the other two reside on their own partitions of a second physical drive. I use one system for beta testing, reinstalling the OS each beta test, and one "working" system for daily real work environments, and yet another "backup" system which is there just in case I need it. (but never really do actually).
    2. Load your latest OS disk, and restart your computer from it holding down the c key during a boot up, or selecting it from the startup disk control panel in the apple system prefs.
    3. Once your computer starts up from the OS disk, select "optional installs" from the button you'll see in the window. From there select "erase and install" and install will begin.
    4. After the OS install, run Software update and go all the way with it. There's nada out there that's not OK to install.
    5. Install Studio. If it's an upgrade version, no problem to not install the earlier version you're upgrading from. Just have it's serial number handy because FCS will ask for it as well as the upgrade serial number.
    6. Run Software upgrade again to make sure all of your FCS apps are up to date. INSTALL EVERYTHING that Software Update proposes to install.
    7. You'll be a very happy camper.. it will also feel like your whole computer is faster because of this clean install of the OS you did...
It's not impossible to get a fine upgrade done without doing it as I've described above, but with the latest round of problems being posted about a new install, I gotta say that this clean method will fix all the problems being posted here and elsewhere. Why even bother taking the risk? What I've posted above will be THE WAY to make sure you're system is running right.
I've espoused this method of install any time you upgrade your OS (i.e., Tiger to Leopard or the upcoming Leopard to Snow Leopard upgrades about ready to hit us all) OR any time you install a new version of FCS or even a FIRST install of the studio. It's not all that time consuming, and running pro level software really demands that the system install is totally clean.
I oversee about 75 FCS stations at the Colorado Film School, we do this clean install every semester (4 months) on the systems there, and really have incredibly stable setups. Never really having the problems that get reported all over the forums... not only that, they boot fast, run fast, and just work.
When software companies test new versions of their software in beta, it's always asked by all software manufacturers to install their beta over a clean fresh OS... always... so there's a lesson here to learn from them, and also a hint: nobody chooses the "upgrade" button for a new version of said software, rather they are testing over CLEAN installs only. Makes perfect sense then to install new versions of software as complicated as this is over a clean new OS install.
    Jerry

I fully support Jerry's advice. Though it is a little like the old auto repair manual I once had. If you looked in the section under "clutch replacement", it started out like this ...
    *Clutch Replacement procedure.*
    • elevate car - be sure to use jack stands to support vehicle
    • remove engine
    • with clutch pressure plate exposed ....
Of course, they never spelled out all that was involved in the "remove engine" step. So, in the interest of adding more detail to Jerry's advice on the "erase and install" process for those who have not done it before and might be intimidated - read on.
    • Make a list of all Applications to install. Which ones do you need? Go through your Applications and Utilities folder and note which ones you'll want to reinstall. Note the version.
(I don't know about you, but I had a shocking number of apps I downloaded, used for a few times and never used again. Forget installing these disused apps.)
    • If you are upgrading from a PPC to an intel machine, you'll want to know if the apps are UB or PPC. Upgrading your PPC software to UB can be a significant cost in a PPC to intel conversion. Know what you are getting into - do a search before installation to see if there is a UB version available. You can find out whether an app is PPC or UB by looking in System Profiler>Software>Applications. This window will also tell you the current installed version number. Generate a .pdf file of it and have everything listed for your records.
    • In the list, note whether is was a download or you have a disk. If it was a download, find the DMG or installer package and copy it to an external firewire drive. Put it in a folder titled - Apps to be installed - or something easily identifiable.
    • If you need to go back to a previous version (e.g. QT 6.5.2) download the dmg file BEFORE you start the installation process.
    • In the list, note if the application is a full install or an UPGRADE. If an upgrade, make sure you have the previous version's disks (as well as the serial numbers - see below).
If the UPGRADE version does not require the previous version to be present - eg when installing the upgrade version of FCP 7, DO NOT install earlier software. All you'll need is the previous serial number. The way to figure this out is to try to install the newest version. If it needs the previous version present before proceeding, the install process will tell you that.
Some upgrades will require that a version of the previous app is on the disk. If this is the case, when you install the first version, simply install the minimum so the app will be on the hard drive. You will need to do this because there will be NOTHING on the disk after you do your clean erase.
    • Referencing your list, find ALL your disks before you start. This includes previous versions if you are unsure whether they will be needed.
    • Spend some time looking through this forum for Professional Application installation issues. The classic example is a conflict between Logic and FCP. Install FCP first and you'll have no issues.
    • Sort your list into an installation sequence. Lay out your disks in that order.
    • Referencing the list, make sure you have ALL your serial numbers including those you've downloaded. I've purchased a number of programs on line and the only documentation of the serial number was an email. All those are kept in a dedicated folder in Mac Mail. For serial numbers that arrived via electronic means, use cut and paste instead of re-typing whenever possible. This will prevent errors in transcription.
In making the list, TEXT EDIT works ok, (I use Excel). Text edit has the benefit of being easily readable on any mac. Print the list out for reference, put a copy on a flash drive or a firewire drive where you can access it to cut and past serial numbers during the installation process.
    • Recognize this is going to take some time. Ranting, drinking too much coffee, swearing, sitting in front of the computer watching the progress bar, etc will not make things go faster. All it will to is put you in a really bad frame of mind. Do it over a weekend when you can be multitasking. While you are cleaning off the mountains of paper on your desk or raking the yard, you can take regular breaks to check on progress.
    Process -
    • Download Carbon Copy Cloner or one of the other backup utilities and do a full backup of your existing system drive to an external firewire drive. Make the drive bootable. *Do not* cheap out on this as this is your insurance policy. If you forget something or can not find a serial number, you often can find it and copy it from the backup system to the newly installed version. Or, if things go horribly wrong, you can simply copy the old system back to your computer and pick up where you left off.
If you have a MacPro or G5 tower, an alternative to cloning your existing system disk is to pick up a new hard drive to use as the clean new system disk. Your existing system disk will be the clone.
    • Once you have gathered and organized all the materials and backed up the drive or installed the new system drive ...
    • Insert your OSX installation disk and boot the computer from the disk (Jerry explains how)
    • Erase the hard drive. Use the ZEROs option as this will map out any bad sectors. This will take time. See the note above.
    • Install the OS. If it is an upgrade install, see the note above regarding upgrade installs. Repair Permissions and then run the updates. Repair Permissions.
    • Install your applications following your list. Make sure to Repair Permissions after each install and update..
Have fun, be prepared for a few minor glitches. If you multitask, you can get the garage/ or office cleaned out and your computer rebuilt. In all honesty, this process took all weekend plus time in the next week as I discovered apps that needed additional updates, configuration settings, etc. No doubt it would have been faster if I was sitting at the console the whole time, but I was able to get the office cleaned up and organized (which also makes ME much faster). Overall it was a very slick process.
When you have a fully functioning system again (you have tested all applications and everything works), CLONE the new system and put your info, your notes and the disks in a safe place - once you've done this once, why go through the pain of organizing this stuff again ...
Now, rejoice in a much faster machine with a lot more free disk space.
    Cheers,
    x

  • How do you find the number of songs in your library, more importantly the number of duplicates, this new version is very lacking in access to info

I do not like the interface of the new version.  I lost a lot of playlists and songs in the iMatch process.  As I attempt recovery from backups,  I am trying to identify how many duplicates I have in total. I can get a list, but there are too many to count.  There  has to be a better way.
    thanks

View > Show Status Bar puts the grey bar at the bottom where song/playlist stats are displayed
In itunes 11 the Show duplicates feature was omitted.
However in iTunes 11.0.1 they put it back
    from the top menu
    View > Show Duplicates
    or
    Option(alt) + View > Show Exact duplicates

  • New Version of BT Yahoo Classic Mail Major problem

I have tried to use the new version of BT Yahoo Mail & have encountered a major problem.
When I select any area of the new mail page I get a message that says "E Mail out of Memory Line 1"
My computer then locks up totally, & I have to turn of with the on/off switch & restart.
I have now gone back to using the original Classic mail, but, I find that if I select a e mail address from a web site this is automatically placed in the New Classic mail system, & again I get the message & lock up.
I have contacted India, & got nowhere! She said I had too many e mails stored on my system! I actually have 3726, so I think she is wrong
    Help please
Should I just stick with the old version of the mail system?
Is there anybody in BT interested in the problem?
Will the original Classic mail continue for ever?
    Solved!

To all who are viewing this, I have just had a mail from BT saying that they were having a few Bugs with the new mail system.
    I was advised to phone 0800 633 5335 Option 2, & they would action.
I did this & I have been transferred back to the old Classic Mail system
They then advised that I should wait at least one month before trying to reinstall the new system.

Huge thanks to you Johnoo, had been struggling for two days after upgrading from BT Yahoo Classic to new version, and had just reached the end of my tether so to speak!!!
Followed instructions above - although Option 2 refers to 'Dial Up'? - and requested transfer back to Classic.  Contact centre operative seemed to understand perfectly
I confirmed ID and she held on while I accessed mail account, took about a minute from start to finish!  Very happy
