Trace files being truncated after 18mb

I have enabled trace file debugging for my application and after the trace file has reached approx 18mb, it stops writing to the file. Im also doing logging and the log file is usually around 80mb. Is there some sort of maximum file size restriction? How do I fix this?

You gave almost no details but as a general statement there are no limits on file sizes, at least with the size of files you're dealing with. Some O/S's and file systems might have an issue after 2GB.
What is your application? What kind of logging does it use (i.e. log4j, jdk logging, etc). What O/S are you on? How much free disk space do you have?

How can I retrieve desktop files being erased after updating my computer?

The easiest method would be to restore them from the last Time Machine backup made just prior to the update.
Or use a file recovery application to recovery them.  Most have a demo mode so you can determine if it can find the files you need before purchasing it.  Go to MacUpdate.com and do a search for "recover files" to get a list of potential candidates.

  • Huge user trace files being generated under udump

last few days one of my database is generating huge number of user trace files under udump. I tried to investigate in alert.log file. But as I am not very expert to analyze the alert.log file I could not find the cause behind it. Only the ORA-00600: internal error code is found there. But it is a generic error . Please help.

Thank you again. I got the clue from your reply.
The error message is pasted below in short.
    ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [12333], [0], [0], [0], [], [], [], []
Current SQL statement for this session:
    BEGIN :1 := TESTDBA.LOCAL_SYSDATE_SFT_FNC( 1,:2,:3 ); END;
And it is obvious that the function had some problem recently. We need to investigate on that. Now my request is
Please guide me how to check in metalink with the value '12333' which came as argument of ORA-00600 error. Here my job was easy as I got the problem function name . By I want to know the art of analysing the error message in alert.log file.
Also tell me which places I should check regularly as a responsibility of a DBA ?
What are the common errors in Alert log file? Where I should be cautioned ? Where I should ignore. Give me some tips please. Do not restrict your discussion on Alret.log only . Also please cover all important areas. If you think I am taking much of your time then please send me some link or source of PDF etc.

  • Javascript protect pdf from being copied or to stop the file being opened after a particular date.

    Hi,
I need to find out if there is a possible way to keep a check on a PDF so that it can become unsuable after some days of being opened first or anyway to make the  file content uncopyable . Any javascript for the same.
    Thanks
    Kapil

    In all practical senses, no.
While it is possible to fake security using JavaScript (for example by showing or hiding an overlay on each page) it is trivial to defeat, and will not work in third-party PDF viewers such as OS X Preview, Chrome or Firefox. Embedded scripts cannot change the protection on a file to enable or disable the copying of content.
The only way to 'expire' a document is to use digital rights management through the Adobe LiveCycle Rights Management server product.

  • Trace file created for the wrong session

    DB version : 10.2.0.3.0
    OS version: Solaris 5.10
    2 node RAC
Using DBMS_MONITOR.SESSION_TRACE_ENABLE, I have been trying to trace an oracle session spawned by a C++ application.
So, i determined which instance this session is connected by querying gv$session. I logged in as SYS in that instance's Node and then issued
execute dbms_monitor.session_trace_enable(4371,98124, true, false); After enabling, i saw new A trace file being generated. But this trace is actually tracing SYS's session which executed dbms_monitor.session_trace_enable and not the session (4371,98124) !!! I tested few basic queries in SYS's session like
select sysdate from dualAnd i can see all these queries appearing in the trace file. What could be the cause of this issue?
    I have noticed that
SHARED_SERVERS = 1 on both nodes. Is this causing this weird issue? For tracing, If i disable SHARED_SERVERS using
    alter system set SHARED_SERVERS = 0
will it cause any connection problems for the client applications because of their tnsnames.ora file setting?

    Thank you DBMS_DIRECT.

So, how do i enable tracing for sessions spawned by Java or C++ applications.
According to the documentation, i can use DBMS_MONITOR for tracing applications
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14211/sqltrace.htm
Your 2 node RAC has two instances (e.g. INST1 and INST2). My understanding of that is that with the above command, to be able to trace session 123 connected to INST1, your SYS need to be connected to INST1. To be able to trace session 456 connected to INST2, your SYS need to be connected to INST2.

  • Trace file query

We seem to be having the problem that an application has 2 threads trying to write to the same row of a table. What I dont understand is that in the insert statement shown in the trace file the data after the VALUES word is not proper data. I dont know if this indicates an application problem or if this is due to the format of the trace file :-
    INSERT INTO GDOC_ALERTS_STATUS (ActionTime,ActionCode,ServerSerial,ServerName,Serial) VALUES (:actiontime,:actioncode,:serverserial,:servername,:serial)

  • How can stop the bdump and udump trace files from accumulating?

The files are growing so until it is filling up the user's c: drive. It's hundreds of files over 20 megs.

    Angela,
The management of those files is a reposnsibilty of the DBA. ie The files dumped there are from background processes, session traces and your alert log.
The alert log in bdump should be checked daily and errors investigated. Some errors will result in trace files being dumped. The alert log will always grow during normal operation and you can simply delete it or better yet zip it up and store it somewhere for a period of time.
You can clean up the udump user traces files by simply deleting them periodically. For other traces you should have a look to see what they are for. Any ORA 600 traces should be investigated.
If you are not a DBA and this seems to much trouble then you can just delete the files to reclaim the space.

  • File is being truncated by Sender File Adapter

    Hello,
My input file is very wide. It has got 175 fields and is around 4000+ char wide. When file adapter loads it, the inbound payload does not contain all the fields (i.e. it is being truncated). Any idea that how can I load this too wide file!
    Thanks,

    Hey Dehra,
<i>Firstly, the number of records in your file is not a problem at all. Your limitation is the length of one record. See question 3 in note 545923. It says that your transfer structure cannot be more that 1962 bytes including the system fields.
Now to calculate how many fields will fit into 1962 bytes. For this, take the first field. If the infoobject is defined as CHAR 9 then it is 9 bytes, a key-figure is 10 bytes most of the time. So add up. Remember even if in your flat file there are 2 chars but it is mapped into a char 9 field, it still counts as char 9. I don't think number of columns is a factor.
You can split your file into multiple files of 1962 bytes size but keeping the unique key of the records common across all the files. So that you can merge then in an ODS maybe. Again remember that fields like request number, date packet number, partition ID and record number has to be there in every PSA and a part of the 1962 limit.</i>
Information shared by  Somnath Kumar in Truncated flat file
This might help you to solve your problem
    thanks,
    pooja

I have restarted the instance and it has successfully opened.

  • Trace file not being generated

    Hi,
    I am using Oracle 10g Rel2.
I am trying to generate trace file for a session using DBMS_SYSTEM.
Firstly I used DBMS_SYSTEM.SET_SQL_TRACE_IN_SESSION procedure to generate trace file for a session, but this was generating trace files in udump directory. Then i checked on net & found that we can not generate trace file this way for active sessions.
Then I tried using DBMS_SYSTEM.SET_ENV procedure, same results. This is also not generating trace files?
Any idea why this is happening? Moreover for around how much duration I should enable trace?
    Thanks in advance.

Firstly I used DBMS_SYSTEM.SET_SQL_TRACE_IN_SESSION procedure to generate trace file for a session, but this was generating trace files in udump directory.
As is the normal behavior, so nothing wrong.
Then i checked on net & found that we can not generate trace file this way for active sessions.
    Which is, of course, nonsense.
Then I tried using DBMS_SYSTEM.SET_ENV procedure, same results. This is also not generating trace files?
    This is again nonsense.
As you didn't consider it necessary to post your exact commands, and nobody is looking over your shoulder, an adequate response is impossible.
