Turning off the apple tv voice

How do I turn off the Apple TV "voice?"

Hey Fortovia,
Thanks for the question. I understand you wish to turn off VoiceOver on your Apple TV. The following article outlines how to navigate to the Accessibility menu, where you can enable or disable VoiceOver:
Apple TV (2nd generation): How to enable VoiceOver
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4466
If VoiceOver becomes disabled on your Apple TV, you can use these steps to enable VoiceOver again.
1. Press and hold the Menu button for five (5) seconds. This will return you to the main menu screen of the Apple TV.
2. Press the Down button one time. This ensures that you are at the top-level of the menu.
3. Press the Right button until you hear a Stop or "Bonk" sound; you are on the Settings menu.
4. Press the Up button until you hear the Stop sound indicating you are at the first menu item; this is the General menu.
5. Press the Select button.
6. Press the Down until you hear the Stop sound.
7. Press the Up button two times. You should be on the Accessibility menu.
8. Then press the Select button twice. This will select VoiceOver and enable it.
Thanks,
Matt M.

how do you turn off the apple TV box?  There doesn't seem to be an off button.  The status light stays on.

Usually, when you put it to sleep mode, the status light will turn off.  To put it into sleep mode, go to Settings.
If you want it completely off, then I guess the only way to do it is to pull the electric plug.

  • Is it possible to turn off the Apple dock completely?

I was wondering if it was possible to turn off the Apple dock completely without causing irreparable damage to my system. I am considering using Drag Thing, but when I am using it the functionality seems redundant with the Apple dock, also using both programs in tandem uses up more precious memory. The Drag Thing website links to the following tutorial as a solution:
    http://www.creativemac.com/2003/02_feb/tutorials/dockdead2030225.htm
But it was published a long time ago, and I don't want to do anything rash that would damage my system, I mean I don't dislike the Apple dock enough to do that. Thanks in advance for the consideration and suggestions.

I could only discover an option to hide the dock from within Drag Thing. I am looking to make the dock disappear completely. Drag Thing does not officially support this option, giving this answer in the Q & A section of their website:
"*It is possible, but I wouldn't recommend it. Since people often ask how to do it anyway, here's a good tutorial I found on how to kill the Dock by Kevin Schmitt. This may have unforseen side effects however, which is why I've not documented the procedure myself, or added an option for this in DragThing. I keep the Dock hidden off the bottom of the screen on my own Mac.*"
Is the dock so embedded within the Finder's operations that killing it will affect system performance?

  • Turn off the Apple TV

How does one turn off the Apple TV during a presentation so that the audience doesn't see the "Apple" stuff after the presentation?
                  JAS

I believe the last menu item under Setttings is "Sleep" (you may need to scroll down to see it) That should do what you want.
(Heck if doesn't, just unplug it).

how do you turn off the apple tv after watching a movie

It never actually powers off but will go into idle/sleep state as Kate suggests.
To be honest it uses under 6W of power when in use, less when not so it may not be a huge problem, though I suppose every little helps when it comes to saving power.

  • HT200154 How do you turn off the apple tv

Does the apple tv have a off the apple tv?

    Here's How:
To put the Apple TV into Standby mode, click the Menu button on the remote until the main menu is onscreen.
Scroll down to the last option in the left column, Settings. Choose it.
Scroll down to the last option in right column, Standby. Choose it.
You'll know the Apple TV is in standby mode because the white light on the front of the case will turn off and it will stop sending video to your TV.
Wake it up by clicking any button on the remote.

  • HT4381 apple tv, does the light stay on all the time, or is there a way to turn off the apple tv when not in use?

the light on the apple tv stay on all the time? is there a way to turn it off or put it on stand by?

No, it doesn't need to stay on all the time. You can leave it on if you want, since it uses little power, or you can go into settings and select sleep. You can also use the remote to achieve this (hold the select button for 5 secs)

  • Turn off the Apple TV or ATV.

I just got the ATV today and I have real concern. I just read a couple of posts about turning the ATV off and on. We just unplug or plug in the unit. Is that right? But I just felt the top of my ATV and it is hotter than ****. Is the normal or is this a concern that there is something wrong. Thank all of you for your help.

Yes, you just unplug or plug in the unit. That's the way it's designed to be put on and off - though many people don't feel comfortable doing it regularly the unit has no other power off method so it's not wrong to do it that way.
Many of us leave the units on 24/7 or put them into 'sleep mode'.
The heat from the casing is normal - it's designed to dissipate heat through the casing, though again it would be nice if it seemed cooler,

    Hi Again Wicho001...
Just asking, but you know there is an energy savers setting in system preferences, don't you?
If you didn't know, just go to System Preferences and look for the little lightbulb icon. You can set your preferences from there.
