Hi:
You should be able to use the audio driver for W7 directly from Realtek.
Accept the agreement.
Download and install either the 1st or 2nd driver on the list (32 or 64 bit as applicable).

  • Premiere Pro 2.0 and Windows 7 - Direct Sound Input soundcard driver problem

My XP machine crashed, I reinstalled Premiere Pro 2.0 with Windows 7, and I got the following error: 'The Currently installed soundcard driver does not support Direct Sound Input. Recording audio is not possible.' The soundcard drivers are updated. Any ideas? Here's what I have: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Processor  3.40 GHz 8 GB, 64 bit. Thank you for looking.

Thanks! Though I upgraded to solve the problem, this is good to know.

VERY VERY VERY EASY (now, when I solved the problem, not before...!!!)
Insert Micropone or any jack in Micropone Input or Aux Input, on your sound card or motherboard !
AND NOW YOU CAN USE PREMIERE PRO 2.0
    Enjoy

  • Quicktime 7.04, Windows Terminal servers, and no sound

    Hi all,
I suspect this is related to all those posts I've already read here about sound problems with QT 7.04...
I look after a number of Windows 2003 terminal servers in schools. They used to have QuickTime 6.52 and played sound just fine. However, when I upgraded them to 7.04, the video played but no sound. Testing is easy; I just open up the SAMPLE.MOV in the QuickTime folder! On a terminal server with 6.52, it plays video AND audio just fine. But when I upgrade that same box to 7.04, the sound is then gone!
I suppose the quick solution is to revert back to 6.52. Our concern of course was all the talk about 6.52 having various security vulnerabilities--the fix was to upgrade to 7.04.
So now I have a secure version of QuickTime, but it doesn't play audio anymore. Not much of a solution!!!
Thoughts? Am I stuck waiting for a 7.05 fix? On the terminal servers, the safe mode (wave out only) was already the default option for QT 7.04, and I've tried making various adjustments to no avail.
    Thanks for any help,
    Sir Timbit

    Sir Timbit,
We are experiencing the exact same issue at our school. Most of our classrooms are thin client PCs connecting to a Win2003 terminal server. When we decided to go thin client, we tested all multimedia applications that we could think of. With the upgrade to QT 7, we now have stuttering audio. I certainly hope that Apple is woking on a fix for this as it is negatively impacting our instructors as well as creating a perception that Quicktime is not a good multi-media application.
So, while I don't have a solution... I hope that someone at Apple will address our needs.

  • Wooshing and scratching sound in Windows 7

I have an iMac I've been running windows 7 RC on for quite a while. After I installed Bootcamp drivers it worked perfectly.
So I decided to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, and I started getting a lot of problems with the sound. I'm not "exactly" sure what sound card I have, but I believe it's realtek. (note what it sais in device manager depends on what driver I have installed so this cannot tell me what exactly my sound card is)
So after trying some different Realtek sound drivers and the normal windows sound drivers I thought to myself this is probably just a problem with the drivers not supporting 64 bit.
So now I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit, installed all the bootcamp drivers for my iMac... They're are not all "up to date" since I get them from my Leopard OSX CD.. So the realtek drivers that comes with my bootcamp is this version:
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver R1.82 - And this does not support windows 7.
So I downloaded the R2.41 which does. (Note I tried several R versions on my 64 bit) Still same problem as before. Wooshing and scattering sound like when you are on a radio with bad reception. The higher I turned the volume up the less the whooshing is. But it's still the. And it's REALLY bad when the sound is just turned down a little.
    Here are my system specifications:
    iMac Revision 8,1 - Bought November 2008
    Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 Ghz E8335
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT, 256 MB ram
    2 GB RAM installed
So I hope anyone can help me solve this problem?
Here is some information I pulled out of the Windows System Information:
    Name Realtek High Definition Audio
    Manufacturer Realtek

Not sure why, but curious, it makes no sense (to me) to use 64-bit Ultimate when you have 2GB RAM unless you plan to add 4GB memory.
How did you install the release? custom clean install hopefully. I'd redo and this time go with 32-bit (at least now Windows 7 comes with both, unless you took some shortcut system builder version).

  • Audigy ls and no sound with Windows media playe

I have an audigy ls and can play music with winamp, and dvd's with power dvd. However, when i receive audio/video clips via email, i am not able to get audio when i play the clips with windows media player 9. The video works fine. the trouble shooter tells me taht there is no hard ware installed or the device is being used by another program or the device is not functioning properly. i get error codes 0xC00DBA: Cannot play the file and Condition ID = 0x00000000. Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you, Sid

    Thanks Jeremy,
However, when i try to play MP3's that i can play on winamp, I receive the same error messages as I mentioned above. I know that the MP3's are good... I can play them on winamp without problems. And I've been able to convert them ot WAV files and burned them on CD-R's and they ahve worked fine. the problems seems to be between media player and the sound card/drivers.

  • DC7700 can't detect and install sound card after update to Windows 7

I've been trying to get the sound on my HP DC7700 Ultra Slim desktops to work for a few months now (I'm a teacher at a high school, so I have about 100+ of them to take care of). I've upgraded them from XP to Windows 7, and the computers no longer recognize the sound card.
I have tried installing the Realtek driver from their site and HP's, I've tried updating the UAA architecture as suggested in other posts here and here.
In device manager, all hardware has been detected and correct drivers have been installed, including PCI and chipset drivers.
Randomly, ONE DC7700 with a unique hard drive worked. I painstakingly checked every single driver installed and found the two that were different:
"Realtek High Definition Audio" under "Sound, video and game controllers"
"High Definition Audio Controller" under "System devices"
Pictures of the driver details for both are posted below.
I am completely at a loss as to how to accomplish this successfully, and I appreciate any help. Our school is depressingly poor, and without sound videos are completely useless to them.
Thank you in advance for your time,
    Kris Brackebusch

    Hi, Kris:
Try reinstalling W7 on one of them that doesn't have audio.
On that model, W7 should be installing a generic HD audio driver that works and then you can install the Realtek HD audio driver either from the dc7700 support page or the latest one from Realtek.
You do not need the MS UAA Bus driver, because that is only for XP.
UAA is included native to Vista and newer versions of Windows.
I do not recommend you install it in an effort to resolve the issue.
I have worked on dc7600's dc7700's and the newer Elite 8xxx models, which all have the Realtek HD audio chip.
Never had a problem getting the sound to work right from the upgrade.
The HD audio is the driver that Windows installs natively.
The Realtek HD audio driver is from Realtek.

  • When I run the Free exec Download, I get the Windows XP "thud" sound and message "File is corrupt." I downloaded again and got same error.

I am running Windows XP Servicepack 3. I clicked the Free Download, saved it using IE8, and then tried to run it. A couple of seconds after I pressed ENTER on the filename, I got that infamous Windows XP "thud" sound along with the message that the file is corrupt.

Hi knobman- I'm not sure why the file would be corrupt. I would recommend downloading from the official Mozilla site only. You can click this link to get the latest and best version [just select 'Windows' and it should go]:

  • I burnt a dvd from a file I exported from quicktime using the share with apple and pc option.  It was burnt directly from the finder. The dvd works perfectly on my mac, and also runs in my windows, but the sound in my windows pc is stammered.

This is file I created in SnapzPro (which was saved as a Quicktime mov - Animation) of a Powerpoint Presentation.

Jon, how do I re-compress the Snapz data for dvd playback?
That depends on your specific work flow strategy. I normally perform the processing in two stages if editing is involved or in a single stage if I don't plan to trim, title, add a narration track, add special effects, and/or add filters to the Snapz Pro X captured screen data.
In the two-stage process you export the captured data to an intermediate low-compression, high-quality fomat. (This can be the default settings for Snaps Pro X or a more modern editing specific format like ProRes 422/Linear PCM depending on the codec components for which your system is configured and your personal editing preferences.) The Snapz Pro X intermediate file is then edited in the application of your choice and the results are re-compressed to your final target compression format.
In any case, whether you are re-compressing the data using QT 7 Pro, iMovie, GarageBand, MPEG Streamclip, Snapz Pro X, or similar third-party app that accesses the built-in OS X QT routines, the export process is essentially the same. Whether you use a "Movie to MPEG-4" or "Movie to QT Movie" export, you must export to a data rate limited, multi-pass H.264/AAC compression combination to take advantage of the "Optimize of CD/DVD" option. Specific data rate limits depend on the playback dimensions of the file you are creating, the minimum level of quality you will accept, and the playback speed of the hardware to be used. (I normally target 4X-8X settings for SD content but if you know the recipient has a higher rated optical drive and your content is HD, then you can use higher encode settings for improved quality.)
I captured the slideshow again in Snapz, and saved it as H264/AAC. Is this good enough?
If you did not specifically use the "Optimize for..." feature, then the file is automatically targeted for "Computer" playback which assumes playback is from an hard drive which has greater bandwidth/faster throughput than an optical media player. If the target display dimensions are resonably small, the the contextual nature of the H.264 video encoder may or may not be within the playback limitations of an optical drive usually depending on the encode matrix dimensions, graphic complexity of the source data, overall brightness of the scenes, and limitations you may have place on the target file—i.e., the larger the encoding dimensions, the faster the data date and the less likely the file will be compatible with optical drive playback without having to constantly interrupt playback to cache/rebuffer additional data. However, you can always tell the recipient that if this happens, he or she should simply copy the movie file from the CD/DVD to their hard drive for playback.
What now? Do I open it in Quicktime and use the "share for mac and pc", then right-click on it in the finder and "burn to disc?"
What you do next depends on how you plan to burn the file. The steps explained above allows you to create a file that is compatible with playback from an optical drive in a QT Player app but is not authored for playback from a commercial DVD Player. Your next step is to burn that file to an optical disc that can be read by your recipient's computer. I my case, I normally burn the disc using a hybrid (HFS Plus/ISO 9660) format which supports HFS Plus, ISO-9660, Rock Ridge, and Joliet with Rock Ridge file systems. How you do this is up to you. You can, for instance, use a third-party app like Toast or Dragon Burn to create a data disc; create/burn an image file with your Disk Utility app (this is a good option if you plan to burn several discs now and/or in the future); create a named "Burn" folder, drop the file to it, and press the burn button; or simply insert a blank optical media disc into you optical drive, change the default disc name to whatever you want, drop your file to the blank media's Finder window, and press the "Burn" button. (NOTE: Burn options may differ depending on the software installed on your system and/or the version of OS X under which you may be operating.)
Dont see any specs re playback from an optical disc drive? The slideshow is only 3 min long, and I want to avoid turning it into a video DVD using iDVD, iMovie etc, as the quality of the pictures and type degrades badly. Thanks for the help. Been struggling with this for weeks.
As noted above, this is an encode setting that only becomes active when you are targeting your H.264/AAC encode for multi-pass/data rate limited compression. When active, the "Optimize for..." pop-up allows you to select "computer" (targets playback from a hard drive), "CD/DVD" (targets playback from optical media), or "Streaming" (targets playback from a realtime streaming server) options. This option prevents data rate excursions from exceeding limits normally associated with each of the named types of playback. This option has nothing to do with the file system used to burn the media disc which determines which platforms/OS can read the disc and the file it contains.

I had a repair done on my MacBook Pro and had to have a new hard drive installed. The Apple Auth Repair Shop then updated the OS from 10.6.8 to 10.7.5. Now my iPhoto v 9.2.3 will not open and it sounds like it will not work with this OS. Can you please advise?

You may need many other updates to retain compatibility with Lion. I suggest you reinstall Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, you will need to erase the drive first. Be sure to backup your data if you haven't done so already.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
             installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Brain pick on an old problem of mine (squealing and poping sound when system is under heavy loa

Firstly, my apologies if this post gets double posted as I am on a barely functional dsl connection?<SPAN> It get?s flaky when it rains which is only periodically for about 2 months of the year?
I was wondering if someone in the know might be able to clue me in as to any fixes for this VERY old issue of mine.
I have already searched a bit and all I found was the squeal and crash issue, mine is similar but not identical.
    History:
I have been a creative card user since the first SoundBlaster came out (and jammed it into a 286 system). Well I think it was the first since I was new to computers then?
Anyway I have had an SB, SB6, SB6AWE, SB Li've, and now SB li've Audigy 2 ZS. Pretty sure I had an audigy pro card (a family member was upgrading so I grabbed theirs for cheap).
Since around the audigy series of cards I have been working on friends and family member?s (and their friends/family) on the side.<SPAN> Though these days I am not a happy camper.
    Problem:
I am having this problem that I have now learned to li've with where when I am playing sounds (game or music) and the system gets under some type of heavy load I get LOUD squealing and popping sounds (mostly the squealing kind). The sound can be in excess of my volume settings and I tend to wear headphones (I can't believe I wasn?t deafened the first few times and occasionally recently when I forget, actually I have been having trouble understanding people lately, need to get my ears checked I guess).
Heavy load defined:-On occasion copying files from one dri've to another (usually large files in this case).
-Always when copying files over a network to or from my system.
-in few cases of a network heavy or hard dri've heavy application (lan games anyone?) ? Mostly when I am hosting.
NOTE: for the most part the card works fine in games as I usually don?t do something else while playing a game, usually.
    For how long?:
This is hard for me to place.<SPAN> I remember wanting to upgrade to 2k when it came out but I heard from friends that had tried to upgrade that the drivers for the sb6 awe or any other creative card were garbage so I delayed upgrading to win2k till I got my first + ghz system and didn?t have much choice. I have been dealing with this since (also at the time I had an audigy or perhaps just a li've, hard to place).
Steps to solve this (not resolved yet):
I have tried several different configurations, this problem has been present on both an amd and 2 (or more) different intel chi
    ps.
The problem has not been present on non-creative products under 2k (yes I had a card made by the company that creative bought out a while back), driver updates have done nothing or made it worse (though recent drivers seem to be a little better).
A while back (on the amd machine) I tried dealing with creative via e-mail and got canned responses of things I had already tried (and had noted in my request for help that I had already tried them) even as far as completely clean installs and as I mentioned different systems.
I am now using completely different hardware besides the sound card.<SPAN> Swapping out for other soundcards doesn?t help if they are creative cards (I even went as far as trading someone else identical cards to no avail).
I have even tried windows xp to see if that would help, nope.
The only solution to this so far has been not to use the card and for a while now I have been suggesting to friends and family to just use the internal on mobo sound instead of an add on creative card.
I have even had someone else build me a system (as apposed to my building it) just in case I was doing something weird, no help.
That and just not listening to anything when I am about to put my computer under a heavy load (and making sure to disconnect the phones just in case since sometimes it happens without sound playing, RARELY).
    Current system specs:intel p4 2.66 ghz
Audigy 2 zs (platinum if memory serves, pretty sure here)
    Geforce 6800gt
    gig of ram
(I would have to hunt around for other details like mobo)
I have to say all this effort to get one companies hardware to work just sucks and what sucks more is I have no choice on the market, there is only one noteworthy sound card company when it comes to gaming, on the plus side there isn?t much for me to look forward to in gaming these days? I don?t like MMOs (if I can't play in on a lan and just the people on the lan I don?t care for the game much). Halflife (the reason I bought the geforce 6800 gt card) renders the world in such a way as to make me motion sick (just like all the quake games) so that was a waste of money?
The reason that there isn?t much to look forward to in gaming is because I can just disable my creative card and enable my onboard mobo sound and actually hear sound while doing stuff as apposed to garbled deafening screeching sounds that I do now when I forget to stop sound before doing something hard on the system?
Personally this is a last cry for help before I completely give up, I am already a very disenchanted customer hoping there might be some way that I can just listen to music or play games without much worry about sound (the squeals can be heard from across the room from the headsets set at a normal volume so you can imagine what that?s like when they are on my head). I have already, for the last couple of years, been steering people away from creative products in general touting their core product a failure and the people that didn?t believe I just let them sit and listen to some music and then copy a file?
Sound and music are almost more important to me than graphics btw, I have returned games for poor (in my opinion) quality sound tracks (mostly EA products) and have bought games that had good sound/music but poor graphics, heck I still play some old dos games (loom anyone).
Sorry the end there got a little ranty, so anyone have suggestions to the problem section?
One last thing: This took me a while to find and is a bonus to anyone that read all that? For some relati'vely cheap 5. headphones (all I had looked at were over $00) check out the zalman headphones. I have had mine for well over a year now and they still sound just as good as when I got them (even after the ear shattering squeals) and only cost me $50)<SPAN> They are sturdy too (more than I expected), I tend to break headphones within 5 months even some nice $50 stereo ones and these things are still intact.<SPAN> By break I mean break a wire, blow a speaker (squeals) (not literally exploded), snap the headpiece?<SPAN> I can't seem to see a direct link to the speakers so google zalman and headphones?

I don't know if anyone is following this or cares much but I thought I would add some info for those that like me before signing up, simply searched and found some useful tidbits. I also didn't see an option to edit my previous post as most boards I post on have that option to give you an alternati've to double posting...
My system was gigabit however I only had cat5 cable with a megabit switch. Now the switch is gigabit with a cat5e cable and a short distance from me to the hub (same system otherwise). The gigabit is onboard.
I figured I would see a bit speed boost with the new network and indeed in games I did see an improvement on large data transmitting games (American Conquest 4x4 maps in multiplayer LAN) however I expected file transfers between me and other gigabit on mobo cat5e systems would be significantly better. Instead I saw speeds only slightly better than before, around to 2 megabytes per second (using a measurement tool Netstat li've from AnalogueX) and that annoying screeching. At those speeds that might explain why the game was still on the jerky side (a full blown 4x4 map the way we play stresses all computer components but network seemed to be the bottleneck).
My solution to getting fast file transfers? Disabling my sound card by going to device manager right clicking on the Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS item and choosing disable. With an acti've file transfer (large single file rather than small files) I saw about -2 megabytes per second. Within moments of disabling the soundcard I suddenly had about 20 megabytes per second and the estimated time went from 0 minutes to almost finished...
I have to say on an aside that this just adds to my disappointment with this card (and the fact that I have seen similar poor performance in other peoples cards set up by me or not). This continues to cast a light of doubt for me and future creative products. I have to say though that the X-Fi (after fully updating drivers) seems like it *MIGHT* be worth a try? I certainly won?t drop any money into a new creative card (or recommend creative computer equipment) until I see some good proof that problems such as those that plagued this and other creative cards are gone.
Now remembering several posts I read here (and why I am even posting this), I tried disabling some of the features of my nice Creative card (through the various consoles for example the EAX console). Indeed I did see a performance boost (more on that later) as well as death to the squeals (though oddly I did hear that odd electrical interference noise that is supposed to be why onboard audio sucks) and my ears thanked me for that. As for performance my transfer rates went from -2 megabytes per second to a whopping 4-8 megabytes per second (mostly 5). I am definitely leaving those special features disabled for bandwidth intensi've games, after all they are mostly meant for movie and music enhancement (though they make some games sound nice too). I should note that the squeals, though not deafening, are present with other separations in playback, during file transfers. This isn?t much of an issue for me since win2k (and XP) lets me disable and enable my sound card at will without reboots (most of the time) and it has become habit to work around my sound card in this way already.
I know that there is a limited bandwidth on the system bus between all devices however I just have to wonder why my SB Audigy card is using up so much bandwidth when not doing jack... That and I thought that limit was much higher than 20 or so megabytes per second which has me wonder just how much this sound card is wasting (and possibly stressing) in my system when not doing anything. My guess though is the sound card is merely interfering with PCI traffic and not acti'vely using it (though I am not aware of tools to check this). This might explain why I have gotten less than stellar performance out of other hardware though I have yet to try pushing my system with the sound card off yet?
While I still can't recommend creative sound cards to customers at least I can't say that Creative doesn't make anything worth buying anymore (and I used to be a huge creative advocate). The new Zen mini player got pretty good praise (search maximum PC for the review).
Assuming this thread stays open I will add more of my hopefully useful experience with this sound card. If on the other hand it'ss closed up (since there were a few unkind comments) I should have to assume that Creative has completely turned it'ss back on me as well as my current and future customers (unless some other reason for closing is given of course). As it is now I see signs of improvement in the companies? products (which pleases me to no end) though not yet enough to justify my spending or recommendations, besides the portable device, though I have no interest in devices that don?t allow for flash memory expansion I have been asked about them on occasion.

  • Windows and iTunes won't recognize my iPad outside of recovery mode

    Okay, so there's a lot.
    1) Unless I put the iPad into recovery mod, plugging in my iPad to my laptop gets no alert sound whatsoever, meaning it's not being recognized. The only thing that I DO get, is the iPad charging. However, there's more! My iPad sometimes appears like it's not even being plugged in, no charging, no recognition. But it's not my cable, I tried my brother's newer cable and the same thing happened. I plugged my cable into my wall charger and into a socket -- works perfectly.
    2) Sometimes, the iPad would get detected by Windows and install drivers, but iTunes still wouldn't pick it up or start automatically. I checked into the device manager and Devices and Printers, it was listed there and the status said it was working fine. I tried updating the drivers, it said the drivers were the best ones available. This is no longer happening however, due to further developments listed lower.
    3) I tried everything here: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows and nothing works there. That includes uninstalling all iTunes/Apple related software in the specified order somewhere in the help sections, restarting the laptop, and then installing iTunes and restarting again. Didn't work.
    4) I tried stopping/starting the Apple Mobile Device process in Control Panel>Services. No effect.
    4) I tried the steps where you go into Common Files>apple>x>xdrivers and using the file there, but it would say it's incompatible or something to that effect. So that didn't work.
    5) I restored my iPad without iTunes. When I attempted to restore the iPad with iTunes, it gave me an error message (4005,I think), and said it could not be restored. Full stop. Thus why I wiped the iPad using the option in Settings>General on the iPad itself. But wiping it achieved nothing.
    6) I put my iPad back into recovery mode to get it recognized in iTunes and Windows again, where before I could get out of recovery mode, I can no longer do that and it appears to be stuck on that screen. Turning it off doesn't change that, because when I turn it back on, it goes directly back to the screen with the Cable + iTunes logo image.
7)Note again, that being in recovery mode will *almost* always allow my laptop and iTunes to recognize the iPad. If I look into Devices and Printers now, it doesn't show up as iPad, it shows up as Apple Mobile USB Device Driver. in iTunes, it shows up as iPad and I get the notice "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery..."
    8) My iPhone works fine and can update, get immediately recognized, etc. So I'm also sure there's no problem with my USB ports in terms of being functional.
Please help me. This has been really frustrating.

You should use a USB port on the back of your computer when you connect. What other devices do you have connected to the USB chain (other than your keyboard and mouse)?
You need to read this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305136 Even if no new driver is available for your computer, reload the USB Driver following the instructions in the article.
Once your iPod can be seen in Device Manager in Windows, change the drive letter on the iPod to something higher (try M or P) and then reformat it (FAT32 format, don't do a quick format). After this Restore it in iTunes.

  • I have a macbook pro4.1 and the sound chip in it failed. My speakers and microphone no longer work. Does anyone know of an external speaker and microphone set that plugs into the USB port so I can continue to use both of these functions?

I have a macbook pro4.1 and the sound chip in it failed. My speakers and microphone no longer work. Does anyone know of an external speaker and microphone set that plugs into the USB port so I can continue to use both of these functions and not have to pay to have the entire main board replaced. Preferably something under $100.

I don't think you're likely to find a set of external speakers that come with a microphone and plug directly into a USB port. There are USB audio cards that look like tiny flash drives but have microphone and headphone ports in them, to which you can connect a typical two-plug Windows PC headset with a microphone, or else you can connect external speakers and a stand-alone microphone. Those adapters typically cost under $10. I don't know anything about the quality of sound that can be expected from them.
I have a Griffin iMic, which is much the same idea but larger, a bit more expensive (retail~$40), and perhaps delivers somewhat better sound quality (I hope so, but I don't know because I've never had occasion to try one of the little ones).

  • Windows 7 -No sound

I an very frusrated and not to happy with Creative Support. I have Creative's? X-Fi Elite Pro sound hardware installed in my Asus Maximus Extreme Motherboard. It Functioned well in Windows XP environment. I performed a clean install on to a new WD TB harddri've when I upgraded to Windows 7 32 bit home premium in Feb. I had no sound at all after the OS upgrade. In Feb, Windows had no certified drivers for my soundcard and external hardwarein Feb. Microsoft recommended I go to the Creative site to obtain and download drivers Creative recommended for use with Windows7. Creative had drivers and other software they claimed would work? with Win 7 32 bit. I downloaded and ran into problems with the operating system allowing the installation of the software. I managed to get the downloaded driver software package? to open, however the process was interupted by the following file error [@S]CRC,0x28504db7:0x0d37dbd7. This particular file error appears when Windows 7 opens all of the downloaded software including the driver the Creative site recommends for use with windows 7.
I have filled out the on- line support form 5 times. I received a single response to my first inquiry,? I followed all of Creative's recommendations to correctly install their driver and software including performing another complete clean installation of Windows 7. I am hoping someone has some helpful information to share with me. Creative provides NO conduit for consumer techical assistance other than their " on-line support form"? and if they do not respond to requests for support through the only channel they provide, the consumer is left with very expensi've and useless sound hardware.? I need a way to have some sort of dialogue with a Creative technical expert.
If anyone knows how to contact them let me know PLEASE!!!.
Has anyone else experienced difficulty while unpackaging downloaded driver/software for Win 7 and if so have you had any success in solving the problem so that I can access and install these very necessary items to allow me to use my Creative hardware? I am hoping someone out there has solved this dilema now that The drivers Creative recommends are certified by Microsoft. I hope someone out there has found where Creative Customer support is hiding and will show me how to find them too.

I have a similar card, X-FI Platinum Falatty, and I've gotten my card to work fine in windows 7 (for the most part... click http://forums.creative.com/t5/Sound-Blaster/SB-X-Fi-Series-AuzenWDM-Pack--0-09-30-2009/m-p/538467;jsessionid=B5880E4294644337F6E946C347978A) HOWEVER instead of using his bundled driver i used Creative's driver listed below
Creative's driver pack for your card is the same driver pack I used for my card, Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi series driver 2.8.003, http://support.creative.com/Products/ProductDetails.aspx?catID=209&CatName=X-Fi&subCatID=208&subCatName=X-Fi&prodID=4064&prodName=X-Fi+Elite+Pro&bTopTwenty=&VARSET=prodfaq:PRODFAQ_40 64,VARSET=CategoryID:209
(excuse the stupid smiley... the link should work though)
As far as your motherboard is concerned, you get get drivers for it from Asus' website, http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?model=Maximus%20Extreme&os=29&SLangu age=en-us
