Why is the service SO bad?

I have been a Verizon Customer for over 10 years, and lately the services are getting so bad that I most likely will be going to another carrier at the end of my contract.
1)     Over the past 2 years, I have noticed more and more dead areas, where I cannot get a signal.  And I'm not talking about out in the country, but places like New York City, Bridgeport CT, Hartford CT, New Haven, CT.  Last trip I made to JFK, as soon as I was a mile away from JFK, headed back to CT - my phone couldn't get any data signal to let the navigation function until I was already passing through Stamford CT.  Yesterday I was driving towards downtown Bridgeport CT and just south of the Trumbull Mall on Main St, and the phone lost all connectivity - data and voice could not connect!  I have recently been offered a company phone, and once I get it will check it, when my Verizon phones says it cannot connect.
2) My wife and I have been repeatedly having issues with our phones not getting text messages and voicemails for up to 3 weeks (not the same phones, so far; 2 flip phones, 2 iPhones 4s, an iPhone 5 and a Droid Maxx) more and more over the past 2 years.  This issue happens when messages are sent from/to people using Verizon and other carriers, and between our own 2 lines, going to each other.
When I complain at the stores, I get **.  They can never come up with any solutions or answers.
And just icing on top, when will we ever be able to upgrade to Lollipop????  My Droid Maxx has been on the list since the day it was released, but Verizon doesn't do anything.

First and foremost, I would like to thank you for your many years of loyalty to us SheltonMac. Allow us to get to the bottom of your service concerns because we don't want to lose you. I understand you recently started experiencing difficulties with service the past two years. Did you recently move? Did you and your wife upgrade devices? Are issues only while in doors or both indoors and outdoors?   Thank You, MichelleS_VZW Follow us on Twitter @VZWSupport If my response answered your question please click the "Correct Answer" button under my response. • Why is the iPhone so BAD at connecting back to mobile networks?

Reading various threads it would seem that Apple gave up sometime ago making a device that actually works well at mobile connectivity. Their antennae technology must be as out of date as their map data or as poorly tested.
Quite often I come out of the tube or a lift and have "no service". This I accept but it seems to take a lifetime for the phone to realise a signal is available. It could be down to mobile mast registration so is really a network issue but a 4 year old bog standard Nokia phone seems to cope ok getting a signal at places an iPhone can only dream of and shows the fact that it has a signal in a heart beat.
A fix I have found is to make a call. If no signal is available then rightly this will not work but if the iPhone is just being as intelligent as a household brick this seems to do the trick triggering mobile mast registration or the phone to wake up and hey presto i have 3 bars of connectivity increasing to 5 as i get more into the open. However, this does not seem to work just by triggering a data request, you just get the "no Internet" available warning.
So either calls register the device quicker which would make some sense as they can use GSM or the device always tries to make a call triggering a search but if no service is recorded never tries to search so it can send data.
Regardless of which, why is the phone so BAD at detecting and registering with networks after all this is the raison d'être of a mobile device.
Do we ever think the Apple will stop for a moment adding meaningly upgrades and examine this boring but fundamental requirement?

  • Why is the support so bad and expensive?

Putting in my serial number of a product that is now useless tells me I'm not covered by the support so I have to pay £25 to have someone call me.
When I put in all my details so I can phone Apple myself I then get given a premium rate number to phone and when I get through I start getting asked the same questiuons I answered online ( to get my case number ) so the call is going to end up costing more than it should. The case number is supposed to make the call quicker.
Why is help so expensive here?
Why can't I just email support?

John Galt, the poster already did that as he said in this discussion. He said:
I'm sure with the millions of dollars Apple make every day they can pay staff for support. Instead of that they create a forum where people can do their work for them for free.
I've posted details about my problem herehttps://discussions.apple.com/message/25581520#25581520

Thanks for sharing, but you are not addressing Apple here. This is a user-to-user forum.

Maybe you should make an appointment at the Genius Bar, my iphone works just right.

  • Why is the service at verizon so poor?

Why has Verizon neglected customer service?

I did get through and the service was very good so I take back my earlier comment

  • Why is the service already made?

    Hi,
I have successfully installed RAC on two OEL servers with a NFS server. Surprisingly, after the installation I get the service already started.
    1) lsnrctl status
    service "MY-DB" has 2 instance(s) ...
    2) Just take look the listener.ora
    LLISTENER_NODE1 = (...) and nothing more.
    3) But in the tnsnames.ora, I see the following,
    LLISTENER_MY-DB =(...)
    MY-DB = (...)
    4) srvctl status service MY-DB
    nothing retures.
My question is why the service MY-DB already is started, if I do: lsnrctl status?

    Your database is called MY-DB?
Oracle creates service for the database name and services for the instance names in the cluster. At a minimum they are required for a user to make connection. However these services are not application services. that is why you don't see them using SRVCTL. Application services defined using DBCA or srvctl utility are only visible as services in DBCA. As a best practice you should define such services and should be used for users or clients connecting to the database.
if you connect using SQLPLUS and check the parameter SERVICE_NAME you will notice that the database name is registered as the default service. Thia is why it gets registered with the listener dynamically. This is required do not remove this definition.

  • Why is the service of Sun ONE Application server 8.0 stopped?

When some clients about 10 above post the data to the server in the same time, the service can be stopped. The error that is "[Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error establishing socket" is displayed in the server.log.

i dont understand your question. however there are multiple points of failure,
your jdbc driver, the size of your connection pool, the config of your SQL Server might need to increase the number of connections.

  • Why is the service in our building so bad?

Recently the Verizon Wireless service in our building has become absolutely awful.  We have clients walking up to the windows and holding up their phones trying to get a decent signal.  Calls drop all the time and our phones almost always say 1x.  This was not the case when we first moved into the building a year ago.  What gives?  The address is 4600 E Washington, Phoenix, AZ 85034.

  • Why is the quality SOOO bad?

I am making text in imovie to make a short title intro
I use the built in text tool to render a fade in and out of a title
when i export, i can export in the highest quality possible but the resulting movie still looks EXTREMELY bad
like, all fuzzed and blocky around the text big time
is this normal? what am i doing wrong?

hi, as far as i know i'm setting the codec to "dv"
I assume that dv is a codec :S i know what a codec is but i haven't dealt with dv very much so i don't quite understand what it really is, apart from being uncompressed video. i would normally assume that "uncompressed" means its the highest quality thats possible.
i've fiddled with MP4, sorenson and a few others and to no avail. i've been viewing the movies in iMovie and in QT7. do i have to set settings in QT player?
the movies look like severely compressed files when played.

  • Why is Customer Service So Bad?

I have always had a high regard for Lenovo as a company, but I am stunned at the poor customer service I have received over the last month in trying to repair/replace an inoperable laptop.
The problem with my Ideapad Y500 began a few months after buying it when it continued to reboot, particularly when I am online downloading something (such as from YouTube); but the problem has also occurred when transferring files (such as to an external hard drive or memory stick) and even when the laptop sits idly.  It can occur over a length of time as long as 30 minutes or as short as 5 minutes after turning on the laptop. Various messages have appeared before rebooting, including "Page_fault_in_non_paged_area Win32k.sys," "Page_fault_in_nonpaged_area Ex64.sys," "Memory Management," and "Cache_Manager."  A Memory Diagnostic indicated that there is a hardware problem.
When I called Technical Support in late July, the rep asked me to ship the computer to them so that it could be repaired - a relatively smooth and easy process.  After receiving the computer back with a RAM replacement, the problem reemerged in less than a day with the Memory Diagnostic once again saying it was a hardware problem.  I called Technical Support and the rep wanted me to perform an autorecovery function which we tried the first time before the RAM replacement and was unsuccessful.  This time, however, the autorecovery function wouldn't work, so I had to wait another week before receiving the autorecovery discs necessary to perform the function.  When those didn't work and I once again called Technical Support, I was transfered between several departments - all of whom couldn't or wouldn't help me.  Finally a Technical Support rep said that he would escalate the issue to Customer Relations and that I would receive a call within 2-3 business days.
AFTER NEARLY A WEEK, I finally recevied a call from Delfina ****** who left a message and told me to call her back.  I called back every day (several times a day) for a week, leaving a message each time with a phone number and time that she could return my call.  I received no call.  When I once again made another call to her number the day after Labor Day, a new message on her voice mail said that she would be out of the office FOR A WEEK.
Finally Delfina sent me an e-mail last night telling me that replacing my Ideapad was not yet an option and that I would have to send it back for repair.  She sent me a Fed Ex label but NO ACCOUNT NUMBER for Lenovo in which to deliver it back (which I didn't realize until after spending 20 minutes in line at Fed Ex).
It's been over a month now that I have had an inoperable laptop and no one at Lenovo seems to care.
    Escalated Case # 443354

I am experiencing the same horrible service. I have been waiting a month for my computer. I have called tech support daily for an entire month. No one calls back. Finally tacked down someone in the US to help. Still waiting on my computer to be sent back to me. I will NEVER buy a Lenovo product ever again. Most horrible customer service I have ever had. I feel like no one cares. I just want a refund at this point so I can buy a new computer that works. I am afraid once I do get it back if something else goes wrong I will be stuck in this horrible mess of tracking it down again.

  • Why is the Finder so BAD in copying files....

    Hi,
I regularly manage a fairly large network... With 5 users and a total of 25 hard drives... This is proving to be a real pain in the neck.
OS X - the self proclaimed "Most Advanced Operative System On The Planet" cant handle the load... Or better yet - it's Finder (The main files manager in OS X) cant cope with the situation...
This is what I am experiencing EVERY time when copying large sessions of files back and forth...
    1) Finder could NOT complete operation as some files could NOT be read/written....
Then I locate the file which the finder supposedly had a problem with and copy only THAT particular file... And guess what - Perfectly OK...
The problem with this scenario is that if it happens when copying a chunk of 100GB and the problem occur at GB 40 - then the finder cancels the WHOLE process. And one can start ALL OVER - or manually go and check where the finder BLEW IT.... This is - 100% AMATEUR NIGHT.
    2) OS X and it's permission confusion.
It seems that OS X gets confused - A WHOLE LOT - about it's permissions.... I repair those EVERY DAY.
Anyway - One example: copying a 4 folder separately from a network user to the back up drive. (All four folders have SAME permissions and so does it's contents.) This happens - folder two forces the Finder to render an alert that it could not copy as the I did not have the right file permissions... And for those scanning thru' this post vastly - They ALL had SAME permission SET.
    This is hilarious....
Anyway - I also manage a larger PC network at my girlfriends Advertising Agency - here we're talking 'bout a network 10 times bigger than the one I am having trouble with... Guess what - NO PROBLEMS
What is with Mac and networking that JUST DONT WORK?
They have set up networking under OS X to LOOK very easy - but it is 95% NOT RELIABLE. OS X or the Finder doesn't correctly update the active network servers in the "browse network" in the finder window... And accidentally clicking on one that is no longer there makes the finder freeze for at least ten minutes before finally getting it's act together and reports: The server could not be found. This is ridiculous.
If anyone has any tips to what I could do to make the finder do what it's supposed to - please dont hesitate to write...
    I dont need :
    1) Standard Q's to whether I have set the permissions right or repaired those - I know how to set permissions
    2) I know how to initialize a Hard drive - so I dont need those standard copy and paste guys pasting this post full of what I already know---
I dont mean to sound harsh but very HARD to get qualified answers here that are about NOVICE.... So please be so nice and gentle to NOT reply to this post with novice answers....
    Thanks -

I understand the problem. Here are some ideas:
    1) Permission repair only affects files in the system, userfiles are ignored.
    2) For large file transfer, you must be hardwired. Wi-Fi is insufficient for transferring large files.
    3) When copying Mac files to a Windows filesystem, illegal characters in a filename will cause the operation to stop without any informational error message. In any case, copying large files to a Windows machine is not very reliable. I recommend Mac-formatted network storage.
    4) When attempting to mount a nonexistent network disk, Finder stalls with a 5 minute timeout. The solution is to add a "Quit Finder" menu item to the Finder icon in the Dock.
    5) If the machine uses a dynamic localnet address, Finder is unable to locate an aliased network disk that has changed. You need to mount the disk with the "Connect to Server" dialog first to fix the aliase(s). A DNS setup may help to locate machines by hostname rather than IP address.
    6) Switches are problematic. If you are using switches rather than routers you may be seeing congestion on machines connected to the switch.
    7) I highly recommend rsync triggered by a cronjob running in the wee hours of the morning. rsync is robust and persistent in file copying.

  • Why do i pay more and more money yet the service gets worse and worse -- all the way around.

First of all, someone need to repair this site, because now, for the last thee times I've tried to log in, I have gotten a message that my password and user name aren't matching or some such nonesense. Mind you, I have it written down, and log in once a month to ipay the bill.
No more. They'll get it in the mail.
This is on verizon's end. At first I had no problems but for the life of me, I cannot log into my main account, which I only do to pay the bill.
    THAT is going to stop.
Next, I want everyone to realize here that my cellphone is still on hold, and it's been a ONE HOUR, AND TEN MINUTES AND I ENDED THE CALL.  This is inexcuseable. Unacceptable.  I won't pay more money for that crap, quite frankly.
I'm sure now I've been routed  to a black hole, because when I called in, I was -- AND THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS --  routed five tims, five times, five times back to the beginning cue. It is outrageous. There are customer service issues and I'll bet there are even laws against this tyupe of fraud.  I call, I expect to punch in the correct info, which I do, then get routed to the proper place. Instead five times I got booted back to the cue.
Hey, if it were so easy as they claim this 'IN HOUSE AGENT" AND THIS LIVE CHAT -- WHICH I WAITED 15 MINUTES FOR SOMEONE NAMED ALEX WHO CUT ME OFF, IT MIGHT BE A WAY TO DO. BUT NOT WHEN THE WAIT IS JUST AS LONG, THE PERSON ON THE END IS JUST AS RUDE, THE SERVICE STINKS SO BAD, AND YOU BET I WANT TO TALK TO SOMEONE,...
     MY VOD DOESN'T WORK.
WITH THE BILL I PAY FOR FIOS TV AND INTERNET, IT BETTER WORK. I KNOW THEY ARE ENGAGING IN THROTTLING -- THAT'S BAD ENOUGH. BUT VOD NOT WORKING? BAD, BUT NOT REACHING SOMMEONE ON THE PHONE? WORSE.
I FAIL TO SEE WHY ANYONE SHOUDL CONTINUE TO PAY MORE AND MORE MONEY AND GET THIS CRAP SERVICE, AND THAT'S WHAT IT IS LET'S NOT HEAR FRON ANY SYCOPHANTS.
BUT I SEE THEY TAKE MY MONEY EACH MONEY. THEY SURE TO TAKE IT.
WHAT GIVES WITHT HE WEBSITE AND ME CONSTANTLY HAVING TO CHANGE MY PASSWORD? DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT IT THE ISSUE WITH THAT? BECAUSE WHEN YOU ARE AGGRAVATED, AND YOU SAY OK, LET'S SEE IF THIS WEBSITE HELP IS ANY GOOD -- HYOU WANT TO BLOODY WELL LOG IN WITHOUT HAVING TO CREATE ANOTHER PASSWORD.
THEN YOU WANT TO GET SONEONE HWO HELPS, NOT AN **bleep**, OBVIOUSL,Y VERIZON ISN'T [PAYING MUCH YOU CAN'T GET ANYONE TO WORK NIGHTS.
I WILL CALL BILLING TOMORROW. i WANT MY MONEY BACK FOR THIS MONTH'S PAYMENT.
THIS IS THE WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. AT LEAST BRIGHTHOSUE IS HERE I TAMPA.

What type of phone do you have? Is it a newer, 4G phone? Those phones are NOT available with one of the pre-paid plans.
Do you have a Family plan, or only an individual plan? Family plans are not an option on pre-paid plans. You would have to manage each line separately, keeping a pool of money available in each plan to be paid when the plan renews each month.
Several people have posted on these forums when they have forgotten to "fund" their pre-paid account and have lost their number and have to begin service again from scratch. There are also those on these forums who have forgotten the funds in their pre-paid account "expire" after a period of time and money in your account can be lost in this manner. Yes, there are upsides, but there ARE downsides to having a pre-paid account. You would have to balance the pros and cons to see which would be the best fit for you.
Of course, pre-paid is an option, one which everyone must make for themselves. Not everyone will be happy with a pre-paid, but if price is the deciding factor in your choice, it may be the correct choice in your case.

  • Why shrinking the data file is bad?

    Hi All,
Why shrinking the data file is bad?
If it is bad, Then why SQL server has this option?

There are several reasons why shrinking is bad. One of the reasons were recorded already by Louis Jordan around 1950 where he sang What's the Use of Getting Sober, when You Are Gonna Get Drunk Again?" That is, why shrink something that will grow
again? Growing a database file takes some resources, since it has to be zero-initialised. For a data file this can be avoided by granting the service account for SQL Server the permission "Perform Volume Operations" (if I recall the name correctly).
For a log file it is unevitable. While SQL Server grows the file, this causes a standstill for the process that triggered the file to grow, and can easily cause a bigger outage.
Another reason that shirnk is bad is that it adds a lot of fragmentation to the database. In difference to the above, there is no reason it has to be that way. It's simply not an optimal implementation.
Shrinking can be really poor when you have big LOB columns.
So why does shrink exist? Because sometimes, shrinking a data file or a log file is a perfectly legit operation. Say that you have a transaction database, and you decide to move transactions that are more than 12 months old to an archive database,
and you also implement a process to move data to the archive database on quarterly basis. Before you implemented the archive database, the transaction database was 1.5 TB, but after you moved ten years worth of data, you now have a 250 GB database. In this
case, it would be perfectly reasonable to shrink the data file to, say, 300 GB to make it more managable.
Or say that you make a change to your reindex job so that it runs with bulk_logged recovery rather than full. This may permit you to reduce the size of the log file with 50% (a number taken out of thin air).
There are lot of other situations, but the key is: you have reason to believe that the data file will stay within the size you shrink it to. Some people are obesseed with space and shrink whenever they get the occasion, but that is a bad idea.
