I want to deploy JWS on a client PC with Microsoft XP OS. This client have multiple users. JWS put a file deployment.properties in the directory "documents and setting" for the current user.
How can I create a uniquely file deployment.properties for all users of this client (new and existing profiles) ?
Create a directory "documents and setting/all users/application data/sun/java/deployment/" with the file deployment.properties don't work.
Create a directory "documents and setting/default user/application data/sun/java/deployment/" with the file deployment.properties is working but is not good for the existing users. This is good uniquely for new users.
is there a solution ?

For windows, the system config file is at:
{Windows Directory}\Sun\Java\Deployment\
The value of the {Windows Directory} is determined by using the Win32 API GetWindowsDirectory.
So for example, on XP, the system config file is:
c:\WINDOWS\Sun\Java\Deployment\deployment.properties
The settings in this system config file will be used by all users on the system.

I've tried this and it doesn't seem to work.
I've also tried createing a deployment.config file as per the http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/deployment/deployment-guide/properties.html article and this doesn't work for me.
Has anyone done this successfully??

This is true.
I can get the system install to work if I add the parameter:
deployment.system.cachedir=C\:\\testcache
to the deployment.properties file found under:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment
but it will NOT work by adding it to the:
C:\WINDOWS\Sun\Java\Deployment
directory. It just creates a new default one in the user's folder.
What am I doing wrong?
If there is not a way to globally set the System Cache location, then this isn't much better than the user cache for being able to "install" the software once on the PC and let any user that signs in access that application.
We had high hopes for this, since this functionality was taken away from us once the java cache started being stored in the user's folders.
More details:
I just tried setting the mandatory=true setting and it tells me that it is not allowed to start because it can't find the
deployment.properties in the same folder (full path is displayed) but I know it is there, because it is the same folder. I even double checked the spelling.
Maybe there is a bug in the way it finds that properties file, or maybe I need to include something in that file that I didn't find in documentation?
All it has in it is the one line:
deployment.system.cachedir=C\:\\testcache
Can anybody help shed light on this?
It seems to be a bug that it can't find the deployment.properties file in the 'system' folder.

I need to set the value of the system MESSAGE_ID to a field that an external company will send in the XML file. What I could gather thus far is that it should look something like this:

The problem is the setParameter() function - not sure how it is supposed to work. The GETting of the MessageId works though but I need to SET it while mapping the file. Any ideas?

How do I set the system to ask me for country in every transaction?

How do I NOT let the system to take one country and use it in next transaction. e.g . Persnl Mgmt > Prsnl Admn > customizing use rinterfaces > Change screen header > Header modifier . Here it asks for country. Now, if I put any country here the next time it does not ask me for the country. I can only achieve this by logging out and this is a big hassle for me. How do I fix this? I want the system to ask me for the country every time I use spro command. Please advise.

Check under Menu Item Settings of that transaction. You should have an Item like "Change Country".

Photo elements wants to open last used dir location. When it doesn't exist or cannot access, it fails to open. How do you set the default file location?

Hi,
I did a test as you suggested - open an image on a removable drive, close the editor and took the removable offline. When I next went to the editor, it opened OK.
From the screen shot in message #5 above, I think that the fault is with SolidWorks. I am not familiar with that product but it seems to be a form of asset management and it can't open its database - is that on the removable?
Normally, the editor does not open any files when it loads except for it program files and any addins. Could SolidWorks be an addin?
See if this works to reset the preferences.

Hold down the Ctrl, Shift & Alt keys when you double click on the shortcut. Keep the keys held down and eventually a message box will pop up asking if you want to reset the preferences - you do.

How can I set the default window location in calendar to my second monitor?

After installing Mavericks, Calendar always opens its windowed centered in my main monitor. I move it to where I want it (upper left, second monitor) but when I quit the program, the location reverts to the original location. Is there a .plist I need to edit?

The "quit calendar" fix does not endure after the next logout or restart.
In System Preferences, in the Mission Control Pane, unchecking "Displays have separate spaces" causes the windowing behavior to revert to pre-Mavericks behavior. Applications open in the previously used window. Applications with windows on multiple monitors re-open with correctly located windows. However, all the behavior reverts, so you can't run multiple full screen applications on different monitors, nor is there a tool bar at the top of secondary monitors.

How do I set the "Save as" location?

When I download a file, I want to be able to Save as instead of just Save so that I will know where the file is and so I can tell the browser where to put the files. I don't want to have to go to Downloads, find the file, and then extract it in order to save it where I want it. Besides, not all downloaded files have to be extracted, so I still have to find the file and either rename it with the full path I want, or cut and paste it. Both are a waste of precious time in my opinion.

How can I move the BridgeCC cache location?

Win 7 64, Bridge CC. I wish to move the cache to another, emptier drive. Edit/Preferences sees only the location under "user" and offers no option under "Browse" other than "New Folder", which creates a new folder in the same location. Preferences does not see any of the rest of the computer's file system.

Open Mail preferences, click on the Accounts icon in the toolbar then select your mail account, click on the Mailbox Behaviours tab on the right. Set the dropdown menu at the bottom for the Never option.
However, you cannot change the default options set for a newly created account.

Setting the shared templates location by Deploying Office 365 Midsized Business "using a network share" from a on-premise location

I found the question "Deploy Office 365 pro plus using a network share or from a on-premise locaiton" the most useful of the resources
on MS yet - but I am having difficulties getting the files to download for a local deployment.
The root of the issue, that I cannot find anywhere, is how do I set the shared templates location for users in the organization. First I thought a GPO, but I cannot find that setting in the GPO in MS.
Then I thought modifying the REG- but it is in a binary key which could include other information I may not want modified(Or does it matter?)
Then I looked for ways to download the deployment but launching from an elevated prompt as IT (Domain level) returns a useless error to paraphrase- 'sorry MSOffice didn't install- do you have enough disk space'.
I have downloaded the GPO objects, but not installed them, likely I will need those later though.
Just want to path all the users to a central repository of office/excel/access/outlook templates in addition to their local templates. Concise help in steps or sites that have solved the issue are Greatly appreciated : )

you can use the GPO ADMX templates to configure the "Workgroup templates path".
This actually configures a registry setting named: "sharedtemplates".
The registry value/type/data is:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\office\15.0\common\general

Type: REG_EXPAND_SZ (Expandable String Value)
Data: <UNC path to folder>

This constraint (for web URIs) can be difficult to work around. If you are using SharePoint, and think WebDAV might work, it doesn't seem to work for us :(
Of course, if you have SharePoint, there are much better ways to handle document templates, but, our users are familiar with this File -> New -> from template type of method...

Not natively that I know of. You could use a LabVIEW DLL call to link
to a Win32 API call which sets the date and time. You would need to
have privileges to do it.

I don't know about Windows but on RedHat, I would use the date command. Check the man pages for date and look at the -s or --set options. Do a Runtime.exec to execute that.
Of course, doing the in Java is not the best option. If you are trying to synchronized clocks on Windows and Linux systems, I would use some freely available Network Time Protocol programs. RedHat has a free NTP daemon available as an RPM in the standard distribution. For Windows, theres a free program called "Net Time" that runs as a service. Both can act as clients and servers.
