1.77 widescreen and still letterboxed!

I have a 1024x768 widescreen (16x9) 42" plasma (HD Ready). Mac Mini connected with HDMI and set to 1024x768 stretched. I picked a movie which is exactly 1.77 aspect ratio (16x9) and when played using Front Row or DVD Player, I get a black bar on top and on the bottom. Shouldn't it fill the entire screen?

It's an anamorphic widescreen plasma display! The pixels are rectangular and not square. That's the confusion I think Mac Mini is undergoing, it thinks the display is 4:3 and thus letterboxes it before sending out to the display.

Is there a way to take a single source file that is anamorphic 720 x 480 (1.20) and have two buttons: one widescreen and one letterboxed -- so those with widescreen tv's can watch it in it's native aspect ratio, and those with 4:3 tv's can select the letterboxed version.
Right now, I am taking the anamorphic QT source file and placing it in it's own track, and then downconverting the anamorphic master making a letterboxed QT file and placing it in another track. I'm probably doing this the long way around, but it works. Just looking for a quicker way.

Encode the track as 16:9, do not make another version that is letterboxed, then set track to 16:9 letterbox in the inspector (NOT pan & scan or pan&scan/letterbox)
The track will be 16:9 on 16:9 tvs and letterboxed on 4:3 (though people can mess with their DVD PLayer and TV settings)

Hi! Please can you help me with some widescreen problems?
I recently filmed a stage play with two cameras - one recording in 16:9 "True Widescreen" and the other (an older camera) filming in a "false" widescreen: letterboxed 4:3.
On top of this the camera I'm using that has a firewire connection to the Apple is the older camera that plays back the "True Widescreen" tape squeezed.
How can I capture both of these tapes and export them as a widescreen DVD? - it doesn't matter if there is some loss of quality through resizing (The way I did it before on a much cheaper editing system was to import both as they were and then resize the height of the squeezed true-widescreen back to the same shape as the letterbox widescreen).

You need to do it the other way - you need to stretch the letterboxed footage's height to the True Widescreen's dimension, which btw is refered to as Anamorphic. Then you need to tell the system that it is anamorphic footage (there's a checkbox for this in the properties window).
After you cut it together, export it and tell DVDSP that the footage is Anamorphic and it will set it up to play back widescreen in widescreen capable TVs and it will letterbox it for the less capable out there...

Video export via component not widescreen and bad quality

I have a dvd ripped to a .mov file. Chose to keep maximum quality and resolution. Its over 6gb. Its widescreen/letterbox/16:9.
When i connect to my 42" hi def tv via component cable, the full widescreen is not shown, it zooms in and cuts off the sides. I have tried widescreen on/off on the phone, and the tv's aspect settings, but nothing works.
Anyone know why this is?
Also the quality is really bad.
Its the same if using airplay so suspect its the phone.
I am quite disappointed by this, i thought it would show the video as it is on the .mov file on the computer. Itunes plays it fine.
Would the ipad do the same as the phone, or output video properly as it's supposed to be?

I found the issue but dont know how to fix it... I have 4 mp4 files of the high quality and widescreen format. I imported them into iMovie so I can export as one big file. When adding them to the project iMovie just reduces the clips quality and does not show them at widescreen and crops the left/right sides off so it can fit in the iMovie window. There is nothing in the movie properties to fix this.

Hi there, suddenly I can't send email from my iphone. I use mac mail, have deleted it, restored it, done a sync to my mac book, read endless help paged and still get the message *unable to connect to smtp.me.mail . Some one please help!!!

I spoke with Apple Support this morning and they believe anything MobileMe related is due to the conversion over to iCloud that's taking place.
As for other email clients, check with your host to see if settings have changed on their end. I use inmotionhosting.com and over the weekend the updated their outgoing requirements so that a password authentication is now needed.

I am not aware of a way except for photos that allows you to select multiple files in an email. I even checked settings in the Adobe Reader app, and it does not show that ability.

installing cs4 there are updates but i can't load them automatically. I did

How do I get a song to play when it requests authorization, I authorize it, then iTunes acknowledges it was already authorized and still won't play?

I have gone through several different troubleshoots and still the problem remains. Inside the "get info" tab on the song it says that it was authorized by my account. The song is part of an album where I purchased the entire album. Out of the 14 songs I purchased on the album, 2 bring up the following screen when clicked on to play:
This computer is not authorized to play "You Reign Alone". Would you like to authorize it?
To play this song you must authorize this computer to play songs using this account. You may authorize up to 5 computers for each account.
So I input the Apple ID and password for the account and it gives me the following screen:
This computer is already authorized.
Including this one, you have authorized 3 computers out of your available 5.
But nothing has changed. I still can't play the song. As I said above, I checked the Get Info tab on the song and it showed the account I had logged in for authorization. Is there something I can do to get iTunes to play the songs I purchased?
(Side question: does anyone know how to email iTunes support. They say on the website that it can be done, but 45 minutes of frustrated screen hopping landed me nowhere but the same FAQs and Express lane call in support options. I just wanted a simple email option.)

Strikes -
Go into compositionReady and have 3 variables you will be able to set them like this
strike1 = 0;
strike2 = 0;
strike3 = 0;
So on the wrong item click have
if(strike1 == 0) {
PLAY STRIKE1 ANIMATION
strike1 = 1;
else if(strike2 == 0) {
PLAY STRIKE2 ANIMATION
strike2 = 1;
else if(strike3 == 0) {
PLAY STRIKE2 ANIMATION
strike3 = 1;
So this will make it so when the wrong item is clicked each strike will be played in order.
Random Scrolling -
You should look into the Math.Random function to make things random in edge.
This is an example of the Random function. It will generate a random number up to 100.

So we can create another variable in compositionReady for the lose score.
score = 0;
Now when the user gains a point to add to the score you could do this code on the click
score++;
which would add 1 to the score, However you can add however much you like to the score doing "score + 2" and so on.
To edit a text with the score at the end which I'm assuming you will want to do you will use .html
so $("Text").html("You score is " + score);

On your iPad tap on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and tap on 'View Apple ID' on the popup and log into your account - that should give you a payments link on your account's page. Or on your computer's iTunes you should be able to edit your payment info by going into the Store > View Account menu option and logging into your account, and on your account's details page there should also be a payment link.

Issues with sending and receiving MMS
You will need these to send and receive MMS:
- An iPhone 3G or later.
- iOS 3.1 or later.
- A cellular data connection. MMS isn't available if you are using only Wi-Fi.
- A domestic MMS plan from your cellular provider. You may need an international messaging plan to send MMS to an international contact. Contact your carrier for more information.
- A roaming MMS when using a cellular provider's network different from your billing cellular provider's network. Learn more about roaming and contact your carrier for more information.
To resolve issues with sending and receiving MMS, follow these steps first
1. Go to Settings and turn airplane mode off.
2. Go to Settings > Messages and turn MMS Messaging on.
3. Go to Settings > Cellular and turn Cellular Data on.

7. Back up and restore your iPhone as new.
8. If your carrier has recently ported your phone number, the porting process may not be complete. Contact your carrier to confirm that the porting process is complete.

10. Contact your carrier to verify that there are no blocks or filters placed on your wireless account preventing you from sending SMS.

Ive downloaded it and still wont let me do what i need too do

I went on my facebook to play a game and it told me i had to download the 11.4 something so i clicked and downloaded it and went back after it went through and i went to play the game again and it yet still said that it wasnt downloaded, so i went back and did it again and still yet able to play the game or beable to get on youtube or any other web site too beable to look at vedios or anything cause it says i have to download this version and i have at leadt tried 5 times and it says it went through successful but yet still not able to play my games or anything and its really making me mad i cant do anything on here with out it and i keep downloading it and still not working what the hell do i do ... i have been at this since 9:30pm and it is now going on 12am in the morning ...

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if one component won't install normally.
If needs be, the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility (MS Installer "Fixit") may be able to help force through the installation.
