Even though I have my 15" MacBook Pro set to open to empty screen when I open Safari, it constantly opens multiple previous pages. It doesn't seem to matter what I do it just reverts back to opening multiple pages. Major security risk, my bank pages have popped back up after my computer has been shut down, account numbers and all. I took my computer to an Apple store and the genious there tols me... "honey, you can't hold your laptop on your lap, that's the problem, it's getting too hot" he honestly said that. Could someone please help me? Thanks

Apple doesn't call its portable machines 'notebooks' instead of 'laptops' for nothing - using a MacBook Pro in your lap can cause some burns on your skin, poor ventilation, etc. So use it on a hard flat surface - not your lap, pillows, bedclothes, etc.
As for burning a hole in your screen, you'll have to revisit the Apple Store and see how much they would charge for a new screen. It's likely to be a bit expensive.
And if you've Safari set to re-open tabs when you restart, you can disable this feature -> Safari-Preferences-General.

After total Restore (factory settings) tried again, showed connected to router, but does not display "check" next to router but little rotating icon even though the wifi range signal shows connected at full strength and it says it is connected. Just can't seem to get it to generate an IP. Any solutions other than turning it on and off again? Not a Merry Christmas morning.

Ok, so, a couple of things: Denisefromwaleska and I have the exact same size/type/color iPod. Now wishing I'd bought the black one maybe...
Second, Airport is an Express and I have a second one that I carry with me when I travel. Tried to connect my Airport Express to the internet and could not although the iPod did recognize the router and tried to connect to the internet for some time, unlike my previous problem. Updated firmware on my travel router, still could not connect to the internet. Going to try to set up a manual Static IP on the travel router here in a few and conect through it although I predict the problem will persist. Back on the Christmas Present Airport Express router, it is back in play and working fine for all devices save the iPod.

Try rebooting the router and see if that helps. unplug it from power for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.
You can also try restarting your iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

Why can't I download FIFA 13 even though I have loads of space?

When I try to download FIFA 13 it just says you don't have enough local storage available even though I have 1.9 gb free and the game is just 1.3.

I'm having the same problem, I have 3 gb of space but it still won't download and I'm confused because in the game description it says you must have 16 gb or above and the 4th gen iPod comes with 16 gb so that would have to be the only thing on your iPod which isn't reasonable because its mainly used for music and we all take pictures every now and then but in the game info it says you only need 1.48 gb which I obviously have.

I dropped my ipod touch the 4th generation and broke the screen. i have not had it for a year yet. My ipod still works and it is only the screen that is broken. I was wondering if i could get it repaired for free and if not then how much would it cost?

I have Windows XP. Firefox updated to version 6 automatically even though I have it set to notify and ask. Also just automatically updated again. How can I stop this?

I have Firefox set to automatically look for updates then ask if I want to install them. I do this when convenient (may also need to restrict downloads on another machine when paying for Internet use by amount downloaded) Until recently it did just this. Firtefox 6 seems to have downloaded & installed (& lost all passwords & cookies) I assumed this happened when someone else was using the machine & said yes. Mission control is activated by my shift key even though i have it set to ctrl, up. how do i make it stop? i can't capitalize anything without using the right shift key.

in playing with key commands to activate mission control in the system preferences i have somehow made my left shift key one of the keys to activate it even though it does not show it in system preferences. i need my left shift key for typing and having mission control come up all the time is a pain! how do i make it stop?
I evidently didn't leave system preferences properly or something. I fixed it by going back to system preferences and changing the keyboard shortcuts to "-" then quitting system preferences by command Q. Then I went back in and reset the mission control setting to us cntrl, up and then command Q and now it all works fine.

Even though I have FF set to "Show my windows and tabs from last time" every time I open FF it just opens the home page. Why won't it open my previous session like it use to, even if I have that selected as the default state?

Nothing more to provide. Simple problem not opening previous session tabs when browser is opened after being closed. Was working fine until the upgrade to 7.0.1.

Make sure that you do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Browsing History" when Firefox is closed because that prevails and prevents Firefox from opening tabs from the previous session.

My bank statements are PDF read only. I cannot read them now, even though I have had no problem for the last year. My bank says it is an Adobe problem. Error message "Unable to open PDF file"

Can't get rid of Speedial even though it has been removed from programs and from add-ons/extensions.

I have removed speedial in the control panel, removed the exe and update files from windows/preload, and in firefox I have disabled, removed, and otherwise cursed the app! It still continues to take over my opening homepage, and continually flashes advertising for "Security Warning!, "Drivers Missing...UPDATE NOW!", etc.

You might also check for the following:
(1) Hijacked program shortcut
Right-click the icon you use to start Firefox > Properties > Shortcut tab
The Target line should not have any URLs on it, just:
* 32-bit Windows: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
* 64-bit Windows: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
(2) user.js file
This file, often created/updated by external software, will override your settings at every startup. This article describes how to track down and remove the file: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
(3) Home page protection feature
Some security or utility software includes a feature to undo settings changes back to a baseline. It may be the wrong baseline. For example, in Advanced SystemCare, turn off "Surfing Protection" in order to be able to make settings changes.
By the way, which one did you have? Was it something like My Search Dial? If you run the name of it through Google, you probably will find dozens of sites providing removal advice. Some are pushing support services or paid software, but often you can just extract enough information to look in that one other place you've been missing.

Why can't I access a folder even though I have permissions?

Ok here goes.
Our network in school is mainly Windows based, I have one of two macs in the school, the other belonging to one of my staff so this is something that we both need fixing.
Until a month or two ago, we had administrator rights to the network, hiwever due to an internal overtake of the IT Support dept, this is no longer possible.
Our file server is structured as follows:
File Server
     Shared
     StaffShared
     Users$
          Pupils
               Intake 07
               Intake 06 (and so on)
          Staff
               first.surname (and so on)
The issue that I have is that when I connect to the file server using my credentials, I can see the Shared and Staff Shared folders, however Users$ isn't there. (Because I presume its hidden?) Now, my credentials only give me permission to my Home Drive inside Users$/Staff. I don't have permission for Users$ and Staff!
My original intention was to actually set these up to mount via AppleScript, so that I could have Staff Shared, Shared, and my Home drive (inside Users$/Staff) mounted with one click.
Shared and Staff Shared mount without issue this way, however I've been unable to mount my home drive. Even If i set the full path of my home drive up, It tries to Mount Users$, and it does, but it has the little No Entry sign and I can't open it.
Does anybody have any suggestions?
(also code for AppleScript would be appreciated, I'm a total novice to this stuff, I'm a Performing Arts Tech)
PS. IT Support won't be able to help because they have no clue about Macs!

The area below, where the arrow points, is the analysis of the usage of the same (only) hard drive -- showing only 116GB in use.
