  • Tablespace creation with different block size

    OS - rhel 4.3
    kernel - 2.6.9
    Oracle - 10.2
    Hardware - IBM X series 346.
    Defined block size for the db - 8kb.
    Question: Can I create a tablespace with 16k?
    regards,
    Lily

    You can create a tablespace with 16k blocks if, as Daljit suggests, you create a 16k block buffer cache.
    I would, however, ask why you would want to create such a tablespace? The ability to have tablespaces with different block sizes in a single database was created primarily to allow the use of transportable tablespaces in situations where different databases had different block sizes. If you are trying to create a 16k block size for a different reason, there are a couple of things to be aware of
    - While there are theories out there that tablespaces with different block sizes can have dramatic effects on performance, I've never seen any solid evidence that backs up this theory.
    - Using different block sizes in the same database can significantly increase the complexity of managing a database. You'll have multiple buffer caches that you'll have to size, for example, automatic SGA management doesn't work with non-standard block size buffer caches, etc.

  • Autoextend user tablespace or add datafile

    Hello,
    My USERS tablespace had problem today when loading a file using sqlldr. It stopped loading halfway through the file.
    The allocated is set to 1900 mb and the used was at 1850. I only have 1 datafile for users tablespace. I have autoextensible to YES.
    Why did it not extend the tablespace when I should still have 2gb free??
    I dropped a couple unused user tables and it reduced the used amount, then I was able reran the sqlldr load and it completed.
    Should I create a new datafile
    ALTER TABLESPACE USERS ADD DATAFILE ‘/usr/lib/oracle/xe/oradata/XE/users01.dbf’ SIZE 2000M AUTOEXTEND OFF;
    or increase the allocation
    ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE ‘/usr/lib/oracle/xe/oradata/XE/users.dbf’ RESIZE 3000M;
    Thanks for the help...

    Why did it not extend the tablespace when I should still have 2gb free??
    Might be maxsize was defined at the time of tablespace creation
    For example
    SQL> select DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL('TABLESPACE', 'USERS') from dual;
    DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL('TABLESPACE','USERS')
    CREATE TABLESPACE "USERS" DATAFILE
    'C:\ORACLE\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\USERS.DBF' SIZE 104857600
    AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 10485760[b] MAXSIZE 5120M
    LOGGING ONLINE PERMANENT BLOCKSIZE 8192
    EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL AUTOALLOCATE SEGMENT SPACE MANAGEMENT AUTO
    Should I create a new datafile
    ALTER TABLESPACE USERS ADD DATAFILE
    ‘/usr/lib/oracle/xe/oradata/XE/users01.dbf’ SIZE
    2000M AUTOEXTEND OFF;
    or increase the allocation
    ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE
    ‘/usr/lib/oracle/xe/oradata/XE/users.dbf’ RESIZE
    3000M; It is good idea to add new file and having multiple file with same size.
    Also in future if needed you can relocate datafile to reduce I/O contention.

  • Oracle 8.1.7.4 / Redhat 7.3 : tablespace creation never ends

    Hi,
    We're running Oracle 8.1.7.4 on Redhat 7.3. System memory is 256 MB (2x128).
    After increasing memory to 1Go (2x512) we're facing a strange problem.
    Tablespaces re-creation hangs, we first drop and then create tablespaces reusing datafiles :
    DROP TABLESPACE TST1 INCLUDING CONTENTS CASCADE CONSTRAINTS;
    DROP TABLESPACE TSI1 INCLUDING CONTENTS CASCADE CONSTRAINTS;
    CREATE TABLESPACE TST1 DATAFILE '?/tst1.dbf' SIZE 1050M REUSE DEFAULT STORAGE (MAXEXTENTS 121 PCTINCREASE 1);
    CREATE TABLESPACE TSI1 DATAFILE '?/tsi1.dbf' SIZE 700M REUS
    E DEFAULT STORAGE (MAXEXTENTS 121 PCTINCREASE 1);
    In the alert.log, drops and first tablespace creation are completed.
    Second tablespace is not created and the oracle process keeps running consuming 99% CPU.
    strace on process after hangs shows nothing.
    Using toad, we see that last sql command issued by session is insert into $ts.... there's no current statement.
    Everything works fine if we set memory back to 256 MB.
    This problem first appeared in production environnement, and we got same problem in dev environnement, so it happens on several servers (Compaq ML370).
    Got no idea, what else could we check to find where's the bug ? Should we tune some oracle or kernel parameters after increasing mem ?
    Mike.

    oracle 8i ouch.........that's desupported, but anyways........
    check your SHMMAX to see may be it's limiting the use of memory
    $ su - root
    # cat /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax

  • Tablespace creation

    Hi,
    I wonder if this set of instructions is correct and coherent ( or at least dont create any problem) :
    SQL> create tablespace ZZZ_INDEX_M
    2 datafile '/d11/oradata/ZZZDEV/ZZZ_INDEX_M_01.dbf' SIZE 2041M REUSE
    3 extent management local uniform size 5M
    4 online;
    Tablespace created.
    SQL> alter tablespace ZZZ_INDEX_M add datafile '/d11/oradata/ZZZDEV/ZZZ_INDEX_M_02.dbf' SIZE 2041M REUSE;
    Tablespace altered.
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE '/d11/oradata/ZZZDEV/ZZZ_INDEX_M_02.dbf' autoextend on next 64M maxsize 2048M ;
    Database altered.
    Many thanks before.

    it will not create problem, but does it make sense? not really.
    You create a file of 2041M and you let it grow until 2048M. Why then not directly create it with 2048M without autoextend???

  • Tablespace creation problem

    Hi All ,
    I am getting an error when I try to create a tablespace.

    check the version on which u are working in,
    while creating the database itself the tablespace mangement is set to local in case of 10g, so u cant create another tablespace .
    if this problem is occuring in the creation of tablespace itself then check the innit.ora file

  • Resize Tablespace having  multiple datafiles...

    Hi All,
    Is there any way to resize the tablespace having multiple datafiles? Tablespace having multiple DBF can not be resized like we did with alter database datafile ...resize command.
    Please let me know if anyone having any idea.
    Thanks in advance.

    But as of now I have 4 DBF in a single Tablespace and all are having more than 25G in a size. And I can see many of the free blocks in all the files at the end If the free blocks are at the end, what prevents you from resizing the datafiles?
    when data are inserting in the DBFs its not only spread to single file and once its reach to max size then only moved to second DBF, its scatter with the all the allocated DBFs of that particualr Tablespace. You can downgrade to 9i! The out-dated method you are after was deprecated with 10g. Why do you want to ignore parallelism and fill up one datafile sequentially until it reaches maximum size before putting data in another?

  • Creating a new controlfile with datafiles in RMAN backup

    Hi,
    i am using oracle 10g (10.2.0.1) in RHEL5 server. i am trying to restore a RMAN backup from one server to another new server with new db name. i have taken out the spfile from RMAN autobackup and created pfile from it and edited the pfile with new dbname and directory structure and started the db in nomount with the new pfile. Now i have restored the controfile from the RMAN autobackup tried to put the database in mount state. But it failed due to the below error
    RMAN-03002: failure of alter db command at 11/05/2012 21:44:56
    ORA-01103: database name 'ORADB' in control file is not 'DEVDB'
    Hence i shutdown the database and started the db in nomount with new pfile and tried to create the controlfile with the new db name,but it failed as it is looking for the datafiles.
    ORA-01503: CREATE CONTROLFILE failed
    ORA-01565: error in identifying file

    ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status
    Linux Error: 2: No such file or directory
    Additional information: 3
    All my datafiles reside in my RMAN backup. How to get the datafiles from RMAN backup in the above scenario??
    Regards,
    007

    Hello;
    The location and filename and DBIS will be different, but you need something like this :
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman  << EOF
    CONNECT TARGET /
    STARTUP NOMOUNT;
    SET DBID 3754763357;  #DBID of PROD database
    RUN
       ALLOCATE CHANNEL c1 DEVICE TYPE disk format '/u01/oradata/backups';
       RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM '/u01/oradata/backups/sb_t790762003_s85_p1';
       ALTER DATABASE MOUNT;
       SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 1 TO '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/CLONE/system01.dbf';
        SET NEWNAME FOR TEMPFILE 1 TO '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/CLONE/temp01.dbf';
       RESTORE DATABASE;
       SWITCH DATAFILE ALL;
       RECOVER DATABASE;
       release channel c1;
    ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS; So you need "SET NEWNAME" for all your files

  • Error message display for PO creation with reference to internal orders

    Sir,
    While creating PO with Tcode ME21N (item category I) with reference to ' Internal Order with Funds provided (Tcode KO12), system displaying error message  when Budget is exceeded.
    But when Funds provision is not mentioned (Funds value is initial in KO12) , error message is not being given by the system during Po creation with ME21N.
    Where should I configure in img(Tcode SPRO) , so that system will throw error mesage while creating PO without Budget Provision (Funds not mentioned ) in Internal Orders.
    Regards,
    Srinivasa Murthy

    Hi Anupam,
    The error message display as follows. (when the PO Price exceeds the Planned Funds kept for internal order)
    This error comes during PO creation Process and PO can not be saved. This error message display is correct.
    Item 001 Order 600643 budget exceeded
    Message no. BP604
    Diagnosis
    In document item 001 Order 600643, budget  for fiscal year 2009 was exceeded by 99,960,000.00 INR.
    But  my question is 'when funds have not at all been mentioned for the internal order' then system has to throw the same error as mentioned above. But it is not happening. System is allowing the PO to save which is not correct.
    Regards,
    Srinivasa Murthy

  • Po Creation With Reference to contract

    Dear Experts
                       We are creating the purchase order with reference to contract the contract quantity not copied to po. it is asking to enter the qty. but it should copy the contract quantity. the same contract price also not copied to po. it is copying from the info record price.
    my scenario is at the time of po creation with reference to contract it should copy the contract qty and price any copy control assignment is there or any other settings required.
    Please help
    Regards
    Anand

    Hi,
    If a contract with one of your principal vendors exists for a material, you can create purchase orders referencing this contract. Purchase orders created in this way are called contract release orders.
    The price, vendor data,  terms of payment, delivery costs, and any instructions to the vendor are adopted from the contract automatically.
    If  you have created the contract & info records is also exists  then system will give priority to contract to determine the conditions.
    Please check the source list ,whether contract is maintained over there or not.
    Thanks,
    AMIT

    Hi
    I want to make the ECN as mandatory while changing the BOM,not for creation.
    I tried by setting OS27,OS25 settings for BOM. I tried BOM creation with status 3(With history requirement). System gives only warning message,not the error message.(Message no. 29045)
    I tried to make the Change number field as mandatory,but it applies it to CS01 & CS02. I want only in CS02.
    Plse help me out if any knows the soultion.

    Dear Sudhar,
    1.Please check in OS27 - Tick mark is included for EC Management Active &
    BOM validity manitained and History Requirement.
    2.In OS25 - For History Requirement.
    3.Get the help from ABAP consultant,to make use of field exit for the particular
    screen CS02 ,which has got a screen number.The system will not allow the user
    to enter into the next screen unless that field is not filled.
    4.Check for the Auth.Object C_STUE_NOH
    With this Logic only we are using in my present project.
    Check & reply.

  • BAPI for Outbound Delivery Creation with reference to Sales Order - VL01N

    Hi Everybody,
           We are in ECC 5.0 version.
           I want to create a enhancement for Outbound Delivery Creation with reference to a Sales Order.
           Is any BAPI available for this ?
           Any input on this will be very much helpfull.
           Please suggest any BAPI available for this, or should I go for BDC using VL01N or VL04 ?
           Thanks in advance.
    regards,
    Nagarajan.J

    Hi Nagarajan,
    The BAPI BAPI_DELIVERYPROCESSING_EXEC meets your requirement. You can create delivery with reference to sales order.
    The below is the sample code...
      data:lt_request      like bapideliciousrequest
                                    occurs 0 with header line,
           lt_createditems like bapideliciouscreateditems
                                    occurs 0 with header line,
           lt_return       like bapiret2
                                    occurs 0 with header line.
        lt_request-document_type      = 'A'.
        lt_request-document_numb      = vbeln.
        lt_request-document_item      = posnr.
      lt_request-material           = matnr.
      lt_request-plant              = werks.
      lt_request-stge_loc           = lgort.
      lt_request-quantity_base__uom = base_uom_qty.
      lt_request-delivery_date      = sy-datum.
      append lt_request.
      call function 'BAPI_DELIVERYPROCESSING_EXEC'
      EXPORTING
        DELIVERY_EXTEND       =
        TECHN_CONTROL         =
        tables
          request               = lt_request
          createditems          = lt_createditems
          return                = lt_return.
      loop at lt_return where type = 'A'
                          or  type = 'E'.
        exit.
      endloop.
      if sy-subrc <> 0.
    Use the BAPI for Commit
        call function 'BAPI_TRANSACTION_COMMIT'
             exporting
                  wait = 'H'.
      endif.
    Thanks
    Ramakrishna

  • BAPI for Outbound Delivery Creation with reference to Sales Order

    Dear all,
    I'm on R/3 4.6B platform and to develop an RFC for outbound Delivery creation instead of using the standard VL01N transaction.
    I've review BAPI for Outbound Delivery Creation with reference to Sales Order - VL01N thread which suggest BAPI_DELIVERYPROCESSING_EXEC .
    However, in 4.6B, that function module doesn't exist. Appreciate any suggestion and or workaround.
    Thanks.
