10.4.8 hope?

With all the havok 10.4.8 has wreaked I'm wondering:
Is there any history of Apple releasing a quick patch after a release such is this?
Or is my only hope to either wait for 10.4.9 or archive and install- to revert to 10.4.7?

Hi, Robin.
My experience has been that 10.4.8 is a good update.
I noticed that you had AirPort slowdown problems under 10.4.8. Have seen several reports that deleting coconutWIFI if that's installed fixes the problem.
Have also noted a number of posts about the 10.4.8 update "locking" the CPU frequency to maximum most of the time. Those posters were looking at CoreDuo Temperature reports, which I believe are in error. In other words, there wasn't really a problem.

  • How Rock Guitar Legend Slash Hopes to Hack Music Discovery Apps

Editor's Note: What do you guys think about the concept of apps helping artists with music discovery? Does it have legs? Is it monetizeable? Read and then let us know your thoughts on this thread.--ks

Glance at this year’s SXSW schedule and “Slashathon” might sound like an all-night 80s horror flick screening. In reality, the title is fairly literal: rock guitarist Slash is hosting an artist-focused hackathon on Wednesday with the hopes of drawing in crowds at the perfect mid-point between SXSW’s Interactive and Music sessions.
“It was an idea that came up when we were brainstorming the launch of our new record,” Slash, also uncommonly known as Saul Hudson, tells The Next Web in a phone interview. “I’m sure there are a lot of people out there who don’t have a platform to talk about new tech ideas for music, so we hope that the event helps inspire software developers to create something unique in the spur of the moment.”
Despite having been involved in several apps and video games, Slash says he’s not a particularly techie person, and is mostly interested in music recording apps that aid artists on the go. “I travel a lot, so tuner apps or things that enhance sound recordings are what I’m most interested in.”
A fan of Spotify and Pandora, the guitarist says music streaming apps are great for artists to both discover new music and share with fans, and he hopes to see more apps devoted to helping artists gain exposure.
“This is what people do now: they go to their computers and smartphones and find new music, shows, and artists,” Slash says. “Spotify and Pandora have definitely helped soften the blow on musical piracy… making records is a huge business now, and these apps help artists feel like they’re not doing it for nothing.”
While he doesn’t intend for the Slashathon to necessarily “solve” problems — as most startups tend to focus on — he would like to see music discovery become more catered to recording artists, not just consumers.
“I’d like to see the trend continue on apps that help artists get the word out about their new records and local shows,” he says.
It’s not surprising that a musician like Slash is keen on discovering new music. Thanks to Guitar Hero’s repopularization of “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” it’s hard to escape a dive bar or TV commercial without the familiar rock rhythms, even for Slash himself.
But of course, he’s grateful for the multi-generational love that’s passed along, decades after the song emerged.
“I was definitely more sick of it when we first wrote, recorded, and played it,” Slash says. “But over the years… it’s one of those things where you have to appreciate that a lot of people still like it.”
The SXSW Slashathon takes place at Capital Factory, and begins at 9 AM on March 12.

Hello, I've updated the iPhone I have got I have a problem I hope you respond to some of the applications no longer work, such as the safari and skype and many applications are no longer working with the ios7.0.4

    Standard troubleshooting...
    1. Try a Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the slider.  Slide to power off.  Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the Apple logo.
    2. Try a Reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
    3. Remove apps from Recently Used (multi-tasking) list...
    - From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
    - Swipe up on the app preview card to remove it from the list
    - Press the home button when done.
    4. If still a problem restore with your backup.
    5. If still a problem restore as new, i.e. without your backup. See how it runs with nothing synced to it.
    6. If still a problem, it's likely a hardware issue.

  • Any hope for Adobe Bridge's Flickr Export feature?

    Hi,
I've been using Adobe Bridge CS5 for a few years now and I love it's features.  However, only recently have I decided to explore posting pictures to on-line albums, in particular, Flickr.
Having experimented with Bridge's Flickr Export Panel, I notice that it always asks me to log-in and then it can re-authenticate.  I had started a discussion on Flickr's help forum, and the best suggestion was that CS5's Flickr Export module may be using http: instead of https:  I always get an error and cannot upload any photos to my Flickr account.
Any chance that this is the problem and that there is a fix for it?
Is there an updated Flickr export module?
Are there other export modules, say to Google+?
I am currently not interested in opening a Facebook account, so I don't want to use the Facebook export module.
Please reference the below link to read the Flickr forum discussion.
Flickr: The Help Forum: Flickr Export Module always asking for authentication in Bridge CS5
    Thanks,
    Randy

I called the Adobe 1-800 support number yesterday and went through the phone prompts and found that I could no longer connect to CS support. It just told me that phone support is not available and to go to the web site for support. It then ended the call. Since the phone message I got on Friday told me to call them back I called the number again and simply hit the prompts for Creative Cloud support and told them that I had an open case. I gave her my case number and see looked it up and immediately asked me if she could take control of my computer. Wow! They obviously have a much higher level of support staff for the Creative Cloud subscribers as I doubt if the Level 1 staff I talked to for regular CS-6 support could even do that, (or would know how). I told her that a Level 2 Tech had already done that earlier with no results. She put me on hold while she checked with the next level of support. After a minute or so she came back on and said that a Level 2 tech would call me back to troubleshoot my issue. I stayed home all day yesterday waiting for the call but nothing. I just hope that when they do call me I am actually home this time or we could be playing telephone tag forever. This is the second time I have called them back when they left a message on my answering machine.
You would think that when they call and get an answering machine that they would try to call back later, instead of making you call them back at the general support number and ending up talking to a different Level 1 person each time, who then has to research your case and then tries to fix the problem themselves when they can’t, or else I wouldn’t have been sent up to Level 2 in the first place. I’ve dealt with other support issues with other companies and they will dedicate one person to your case and that’s who you deal with each time. It’s much more efficient for them and for the customer. I hope someone from Adobe actually reads this forum once in a while. There customer support could definitely use improvement.
The next time I talk to them I am going to point them to this forum thread to prove it’s not just me.
Can I ask everyone to post what operating system they are using. Maybe that will narrow things down, or prove that it’s not an operating system problem?
I have the same problem on both my desktop and my laptop. Both are running Windows 7, 64 bit.
Photoshop CS-6, 64 bit only on both.

  • K7N2 Delta - hope this is of some help

    M/B K7N2 Delta - ILSR
    AMD XP 3200+
    CORSAIR XMS 2 x 256mb DDR400
    ATI 9600XT
    2 x 200GB MAXTORS
    450 w PSU
I've had several years experience in building my own PC's, and I suppose like everyone else I've learnt some expensive lessons.  At the moment I've got several PC's all with AMD's ranging from XP 2100 - 3200+
2 Abit m/b, 2 Asus m/b and the latest one, which is the MSI Delta
This is the first time I've tried an MSI m/b and I have to say I've never known a board as twitchy as this when it comes to setting the FSB and DRAM timings.
When I first setup a m/board I don't, as a rule, adjust anything in the BIOS just to see how things bootup.  For the test I also attach a spare hard drive with a basic windows XP setup and very little else.  This helps me to observe how windows responds to the new motherboard - if there are any compatibility problems at this stage then windows will soon tell you in no uncertain terms with the dreaded blue screen messages.  And believe you me I've had plenty of them with this motherboard.
Not only have the blue screens appeared but I've lost count of the number of times this system has either crashed out on me or reset itself for no apparent reason.
Right then, my first port of call was the BIOS........hmmm, everything looked fine the system was on auto, the CPU FSB Clock showed 200Mhz and the DRAM clock also showed 200.  I switched the memory timings to manual because I wanted to change the CAS latency to 2.5, which I knew was the correct setting for the CORSAIR memory with an AMD cpu.
Next stop was to check all the cacheable stuff just in case the AwardBIOS was making too many assumptions which it sometimes does.
Tweaked a few other settings, but nothing that would have a drastic effect.
All this of course was to no avail, as the same problems kept happening.
Next step was to check for any BIOS update, and yes, as look would have it, MSI had brought out version 7.7, which I installed immediately.
During the process of updating the BIOS I noticed a message appeared saying, updating  DDR timings (interesting I thought, had MSI realised they had a problem).
Again all this was to no avail of course.  So I decided to tweak the CPU FSB Clock speed and started increasing it one step at a time, which only made matters worse and eventually I had to reset everything with the jumpers on the m/b.  So I turned to decreasing the speed and after some trial & error I finally got the system stable at 192Mhz. Of course this also effects the speed of the DRAM clock which now runs at 382.  Not quite what I expected but I suppose I should be happy that my system is still running.
Let's hope MSI continue to release BIOS updates which may evetually improve their timings !!
My condolences to all who suffer with MSI blues
    Truly yours

Hi, I'd like to set alarms or reminders on my I phone or I pad so that it can update or sync automatically with each other. I don't know if this is possible or how to do it. I hope you can help.

HI, if I did this, then I believe that I cloud would then hold my info which I don't want. Is that the case? The reason is that I'm an old git, therefore used to not giving out info. Would I be right?
Thank-You so much for taking the time to answer.

HELP. ............Hi folks hope some one can help me please.Having a problem in Bridge I open my images in ACR,  as I open files in a folder and lets say they are labeled in yellow  they are all going back to  the camera raw default , in other words no matter what work I have done, inc cropping they  all go back to ,as they came out of camera. What on earth is happening? I am on PS CS6. I might point out everything was working normally up to  yesterday, when this first started.
I recently changed computer to 64bit from 32bit, not sure if this causing  the problem or not. Any help would be appreciated.

  • T61: Paid $1,800, suffered for 6 months, only to have to spend $100 on XP to (hopefully) make it functional. Let's hope I don't mess it up and void my warranty :)

    Dear Community:
Here is the saga of me and my T61. I have tried to love my T61, and it has broken my heart.
Last spring, I was accepted to law school, and I began searching for a notebook computer. If you know nothing about law school, you should just know that we use our computers in every class, every day. Knowing that I would need something reliable and hardy, I asked consulted with my friends in engineering. Unanimously (with the exception of the occasional Mac fanboy), they recommended the thinkpad. It's tough as nails, they told me. It will last me for years, they said.
I ordered my T61 in May. It was caught up the the shipping problems, and took over a month to ship. No big deal. I was annoyed by having it take so long to ship, but I was not peeved too much.
Since then, I have been in hell. From day one, this machine has crashed daily (running Vista Home Premium). It crashes when I search the internet. It crashes when I type in word. It crashes when I play freecell. An honest estimate is that this computer will crash at least once every three hours. I'm sure that much of the blame for this goes to Microsoft, but I hope that you can sympathize with my plight.
Even if we look past the crashes, and that everything runs slowly with Vista, I've had my host of hardware problems. The screws that hold the palm rest on back themselves out about once a month. It's a minor gripe that I should have to tighten screws on my laptop, but it honestly concerns me that I should even have to take a screw driver to it.
Also, there has always been a sizable patch of dead pixels (About the size of a "b" in Times New Roman, 12pt.) on the right center portion of the lcd. They stare at me every day. They anger me every day.
My T61 has already been in for service once for a fan that stopped working. I was the only person without a computer in class that week. Sure, it wasn't much fun trying to take notes by hand, but I can live with things like that. They happen. I'm honestly impressed with the turn around time and the courteousness of the tech that helped me over the phone.
Last week, I tried to watch a DVD. Something must seriously be out of balance in the DVD player because the noise from it vibrating drowned out the speakers so bad that I couldn't understand the dialog in Michael Clayton from about six feet away.
Yesterday, I was finally pushed over the edge. With only 5 word documents and one pdf file open, IT LOCKED UP IN THE MIDDLE OF MY CRIMINAL LAW EXAM! I lost an hour worth of work on a three hour exam. I imagine that to someone not familiar with law school, I sound like a neurotic tool for freaking out about this, but I almost broke down and cried right there. We're graded on a strict curve, and I have a tough enough time making grades having to compete against my capable class mates. I hate that I'm going to receive a worse grade than I should have because I also had to compete against my laptop.
I feel like I have been lied to. I bough a think pad because I was told they are bullet proof, and this machine has turned out to be a complete lemon. I've babied this machine, searched diligently for patches that would help the system freezes, packed it in a padded laptop bag every day, and it has done nothing but hurt me every day. How can I obtain a refund so that we can part friends?
    Best,
    John

given your experiences with daily crashes, why would you entrust your thinkpad to survive a three-hour exam without crashing or locking up?   if your thinkpad is to be used in a mission-critical environment then why not instead use a proven OS such as XP or server 2003?   i sympathize with your overall experience but, with all due respect, fail to understand why you wouldn't be more proactive in finding a solution to your above problem–especially as a law student who is learning to analyze and interpret our nation's legal system.   i apologize if i sound overly critical here but if i were your professor and you came to me with the same story above then i would ask the exact same questions.
it sounds like all of your problems can be fixed.   crashes and lockups can be fixed by installing vista clean or by switching to XP.   dead or stuck pixels in your display can be fixed under warranty if the defects meet replacement criteria.   screws backing out of your palmrest can be fixed under warranty by replacing the palmrest and associated screws.   and, the DVD player, if defective, can also be easily replaced under warranty.
i doubt lenovo will buy back your machine because of the aforementioned issues but i'm sure that their service department can make thinks right one way or another.
i hope everything works out for you.   good luck.

    MAC OS
    iMac
There are several versions of the iMac computer. The first two versions (referred to as revision A and revision B) were colored Bondi Blue. The next version (referred to as revision C) was introduced in January 1999 and came in five different colors.
Revision A and B iMac computers support IrDA, but not IRTalk. Revision C iMac computers do not support infrared communication of any type.
PowerBook G3 Series (Lombard and Wallstreet)
PowerBook G3 Series computers are IrDA compliant.
    PowerBook G3(Pismo or Firewire)
    The PowerBook (FireWire) supports IrDA.
PowerBook G4 (Titanium) and PowerBook G4 (Gigabit Ethernet)
The PowerBook G4 and PowerBook G4 (Gigabit Ethernet) support IrDA.
    BLUETOOTH
Bluetooth is a short range radio link meant to replace the necessity of cables to connect portable and/or fixed electronic devices. The Bluetooth protocol uses a combination of packet and circuit switching to transmit data through variable hop frequency. Connectivity across a network is provided according to time slot division. It provides point-to-point or point-to-multipoint connection, creating links for between 2-8 devices (including the initiating Master/host and its Slave/s) to form a piconet. Multiple piconets that are linked together form a scatternet. A Master in one piconet can be a Slave in another, and vice versa, to form an inter-connected network. Dial-Up Networking, Fax, Headset, LAN Access, and SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) Access functionality all use serial port communication profiles and virtually emulate RS232 (or similar) serial cable port protocols.Ê A Bluetooth management application is necessary in each device to facilitate the serial port emulation. Radio Frequency Communications (RFCOMM) is used to transport user data, modem control signals and configuration commands.
When using a cellular device equipped for Bluetooth communications to transmit data over a cellular network, the Bluetooth link must be established as an initial protocol layer and the cellular network link is negotiated in a second protocol sequence through the cellular device. For example, when attempting to connect a Pocket PC device to the GPRS data network using a cellular phone as a negotiator via a Bluetooth link. The connection is initiated and controlled by the Pocket PC device, but dependent on the SIM functionality available through the cellular phone to negotiate and establish the connection to the cellular network. In this capacity, known as a SIM Access Profile, the cellular phone functions as a Server (or ÒaccepterÓ) while the Pocket PC device acts as a Client (or ÒinitiatorÓ). A Client may have access to only one Server with a SIM at any given time of active connection. Designation of a Client versus Server role is independent of the deviceÕs discover/discoverable status.
To ensure secure communication between the Client and Server devices, several conditions must be met. The Client and Server must be successfully Bonded (otherwise known as Paired) before setting up a SIM Access Profile or configuring the settings of a GPRS/GSM network connection. The SIM bearer (cellular phone) must be properly enabled to initiate authentication. The link between the Client and Server will be encrypted using the Bluetooth baseband and will be at a minimum of 64 bits. Each incident of authentication will be identified with a unique Passkey between the devices that must be in mutual agreement at the time of connection.
Bluetooth transceivers operate in the 2.4 GHz ISM (Industrial Scientific Medical) band. In a majority of the countries in the world this band includes 2.400-2.4835 GHz. Please note that products that implement a reduced frequency band will not work with those that implement the full frequency band. These products that are reduced in frequency (perhaps distributed in different countries), are generally intended for use in a single market. As such, devices developed and/or purchased in Europe and Asia (for example) may not be compatible for use with devices from the United States.
For more general information about Bluetooth development and technology, go to www.bluetooth.com, the official Bluetooth website. Select the link to Bluetooth technology & you to find links to Using Bluetooth technology, Products, and How it works. In the Using Bluetooth technology section, there is a link to view information about connecting a Mobile Phone with a Personal Computer. Here you can view links that include all currently supported and available devices that are applicable to your needs. This will be useful to verify the compatibility of your devices. You can find specific information about the technical details and requirements of modem data transmission using cellular technology with Bluetooth by proceeding to the Developer Information section and viewing the SIM Access Profile and v.1.1 Profiles documentation.
For more info about using Bluetooth technology with Mac OS X and Apple products, go to www.apple.com/bluetooth.
    GENERAL DIAGNOSTICS WITH BLUETOOTH
    * Make sure that your Bluetooth devices are compatible.
    * Your operating system should be current on all applicable software, driver, and firmware updates.
    * Verify that the Bluetooth functionality in both devices is turned ÒOnÓ.
    * Verify that the devices are currently bonded/ paired. This can often be difficult to assess with the Nokia 6310i. The phone may not show the devices as ÒActiveÓ, but the Bluetooth Manager will display that the devices are paired/bonded. Often the phone will display a Disconnected message. Disregard this message and continue with the instructions in the setup guide.
    * Ensure that the Bluetooth Dialup Modem is selected in the Connections (for Pocket PC devices), System Preferences/ Network (in Mac OS X), or Dial-Up Networking properties (in Microsoft Windows OS).
    * It may be necessary to attempt to connect multiple times to establish a GSM/GPRS connection. Do not be discouraged if you receive a connection error or receive a Disconnected message on your cellular phone. Due to interference or early product development, it may take several attempts to push the connection through all layers of the Bluetooth service and protocol stack. It is also possible, as is seen with the Nokia 6310i, for a Disconnect message to be given while transfer protocol layers of communication are still recognized and active. In this case, a temporary minor error (Òdata not availableÓ or Òcard not accessibleÓ) is the cause as the Client device attempts to initialize and access the SIM for data packet transfer.
    * Verify that you are not in the presence of equipment that may be interfering on the same (or possibly overlapping) radio frequency as your Bluetooth communication. This includes medical equipment, wireless 802.11 connectivity devices, other Bluetooth enabled cellular phones, airport communications, amongst other factors.
    * It may be necessary on some devices to alternate in the bonding/pairing process between setting the phone in Discover versus Discoverable mode, as is sometimes the case with the Sony Ericsson T68i.
    * Verify that your devices are fully charged.
    * Verify that you have GSM/GPRS coverage available at your location and that your wireless account is properly provisioned for data transmission with a modem over the network.
    * Check that your connection is using the correct Dialing Location properties and profile. For a GPRS connection, this should follow the instructions to include the letter G in each of the three dialing location fields of the Dialing Patterns specifications as well as verification that the phone number to be dialed is *99# and that the Area Code and Country Code fields are not included in your connection.
Alternative methods of Pairing/Bonding for the Nokia 6310i and iPAQ 3800/3900 series device with Pocket PC 2002 Operating System
If you are experiencing problems due to interference, or if your signal strength is not very strong, modifying the serial port connection may allow you to connect to the GPRS network.
    * Open the Bluetooth Manager application on your Pocket PC device.
    * Verify that the Bluetooth on your handset is currently On. (You may want to check the power level on your devices.)
    * If your Nokia 6310i is not seen as an available device, tap on Search and proceed to locate it and Save it to a group. Otherwise, tap on the Nokia 6310i icon.
    * Tap on Actions.
    * Select Set as Bluetooth Dialup Modem.
    * Tap Actions again.
    * Select Connect to COM 1.
    * Press Accept on the phone to connect with the Pocket PC device.
    * Enter a unique Passcode onto your handset.
    * You will have 10 seconds to enter the same Passcode/PIN code onto your Pocket PC device.
    * Your phone will notify you that you are connected. You can verify this by scrolling through the Bluetooth menu on your handset and selecting View active device.
    * You will have 3 minutes to proceed before your Bluetooth session will time out.
    * Proceed to connect using the usual methods outlined in the setup guide.
    * You will be notified that the Serial style= style=Port style=connection was terminated . Tap OK and continue anyway. It may take several attempts to get the Bluetooth stack to respond.
    * Press Accept to connect to the phone once more.
    * The phone will now notify you that a GPRS connection is in progress.
The following method may also be useful if the bonding appears to be unstable and multiple attempts to connect through the Connection Settings fail:
    * Open the Bluetooth Manager application on your Pocket PC device.
    * On the phone, scroll to select Bluetooth from the main menu, then select Bluetooth and select Off.
    * Turn your phone off, then on again to fully reset its Bluetooth protocol stack.
    * On the Pocket PC device you should see the Nokia 6310i listed. Tap to select it.
    * Tap on Actions.
    * Select Remove bond with this device.
    * Tap on Actions again.
    * Select Remove this device.
    * Tap Yes when asked if you want to remove it from all groups.
    * Close all open windows on your Pocket PC device and tap on the Bluetooth icon on the lower left corner of your screen.
    * Select Turn radio off.
    * Soft reset your device according to manufacturerÕs instructions.
    * Tap on the Bluetooth icon on the lower right corner of your screen again and select Turn radio on.
    * Turn the phone back on, scroll to Bluetooth from the main menu, then select Bluetooth and select On.
    * Open the Bluetooth Manager application.
    * If you do not see your device listed, tap on Search.
    * Tick the box to select your phone, choose a group and select Save.
    * Tap OK.
    * Tap on the Nokia 6310i icon.
    * Tap on Actions.
    * Select Create bond with this device.
    * Enter a unique PIN code.
    * Press Accept on the phone when prompted to Pair with the Pocket PC device.
    * Enter the Passcode/PIN code. You will have 10 seconds to complete this task. (If you receive a Disconnected message on the phone, continue anyway.)
    * Proceed to set up your connection as usual through your Connection Settings.
    * If you are not connected the first time, tap Connect to try again immediately after you receive the Disconnected message on the phone. It may take several attempts to get the Bluetooth stack to respond.
    * Press Accept on the phone to accept the connection.
    * The phone will indicate that a GPRS connection is in progress.
The processes for troubleshooting Bluetooth in a Windows environment are very similar to those of Pocket PC devices.
    * In the Bluetooth Manager application, proceed to click on the Nokia 6310i and select Unpair device, then proceed to turn the Bluetooth radio Off on the computer and on your phone. Reset both devices, then try again. This should clear any temporary problems in the Bluetooth service and protocol stacks.
    * It may be necessary to attempt to establish your GSM/GPRRS connection multiple times before you will actually be able to transmit data over the cellular network.
    * Verify adequate power level on each device.
    * Resolve any issues that may exist with your cellular account or wireless coverage in your location.
    * Other wireless electronic devices that operate in (or near) the Industrial, Scientific, and Medical bandwidth may provide significant interference. These include other cellular phones, 802.11 devices, medical equipment, airport communications, amongst other factors.
    * You must select secure encryption to be used when creating the bond with your devices in the Bluetooth Manager.
    USEFUL AT COMMANDS
When GPRS doesn't appear to be working, or you just want to check that all is well, hopefully the following will prove useful:
    Check the phone
Verify that GPRS is currently available in your location and that your cellular account is properly enabled for data transmission over the network using your device as a modem.
If all appears well on the phone, head to HyperTerminal or your equivalent Terminal application and try some of the following style=to further query the status of your ability to communicate with the network:
    at+cgatt?
If a value of '1' is returned, then we have GPRS attached. If the value is '0', then GPRS is currently deactivated (i.e. the service is either down or the user is not currently provisioned).
at+cgatt=? will return the supported values for the command
at+cgatt=1 will attempt to attach to the GPRS network
    at+cgdcont?
This will allow you to check that the Access Point Name (APN) has been set correctly.
A typical response will look something like this:
    +CGDCONT:1,"IP","proxy"
If the APN is set incorrectly for the AT&T Wireless GPRS service, enter the following:
    at+cgdcont=1,"IP","proxy"
    at+cops?
This will return the identity of the network operator.
    at+cgreg?
This will return the network registration status.Ê One of the following values should be returned:
0 - not registered, not searching
    1 - registered, home network
    2 - not registered, searching
3 - registration denied by network
    4 - unknown

    Hi
I've a big problem with adobe acrobat reader XI pro and I hope you can help me.
The problem is; when I past copied text from some pdf books (not all of them) it past symbols only! wherever I past it! and even if I coped that text from another pdf reader (adobe pdf reader, internet browsers, ...etc.).
This problem started to happen since yesterday when I installed adobe acrobat reader XI pro to try it before I buy it, and before that when I was using the free adobe pdf reader I was totally able to copy any text from any pdf and past it anywhere with nothing wrong.
    What can I do?
    thank you a lot.

There is no product called Adobe Acrobat Reader Pro. There is
    - Adobe Acrobat Pro ($$)
    - Adobe Reader (free)
Which do you have? And are you a programmer?

  • VPN - Can't ping the next hop

Next some advise... i've configured a VPN server -pptp on my router,  create a vpn for client to site. At the moment, client computer can connect and established a connection to router. I can ping from client to router (192.168.5.1) but can't ping 192.168.5.2(switch) or 192.168.10.X (workstations)
What i'm trying to achieve is to access the internal network (192.168.10.X) which is from the layer 3 switch's end. Any help/extra eye would be good.

    Hi Samuel,
I went through your configuration and picked up some problematic lines..
First of all you can't have your vpn-pool to be in the 192.168.10.x/24 range because you already have that subnet used behind the switch ( this would only be possible if you had 192.168.10.x range directly connected to the router ). Also, you can't bind your Virtual Template to the WAN ip, it should bind to a interface with a subnet that includes your vpn-pool IP range.
The cleanest way to do this is,
Create a new loop back interface with a new subnet
    interface loopback 0
    ip address 192.168.99.1 255.255.255.0
    Have new vpn pool defined,
ip local pool defaultpool 192.168.99.200 192.168.99.210
Change your Template to point the new loopback interface,
    interface Virtual-Template1
    ip unnumbered loopback0
    encapsulation ppp
peer default ip address pool defaultpool
    ppp authentication chap ms-chap
All the vpn clients will get an IP from 192.168.99.200 192.168.99.210 range. And they will be able to get in to the router and up to the desired 192.168.10.x/24 range behind the router. Packets will get in to the switch and then in to the host. Host will reply through the gateway( switch ) -> router -> Client.
PS: Earlier, even if your packets get to the host, the host will never try to send the reply packets back through the gateway ( switch ) because from its(hosts) point of view, the packet came from the same Lan, so the host will just try to "arp" for the senders MAC  and will eventually time out)
    Hope  this helps.

Hello, my English his my second languish, i hope i will be understandable and will understand you.

First see if the image is in RGB, Image CMYK is not displayed on the Internet
The second image name has to be imported in website programming. For example: On the website the image is figura.jpg name if you rename the image to figura1.jpg the site will not find the image.
In Photoshop to save as web it will save us now for internet formats. PNG, JPG, Gif

  • I think I solved my time changing issues- hope this helps

Hey everyone, I think I've had some success with my time changing issues. I originally posted this to another user as a follow up to her question, but I'm reposting it here. Hope it helps:
    "msteinny,
So i went to the apple store to meet with an apple genius to ask him why my phone's time kept moving up 1 hour everytime I synced my phone. Well he said that he's never seen this problem before, and after a trying a reset and restore he let me exchange my phone. The problem is that when I went to sync my new phone the problem still persisted. They told me it was probably something to do with my computer and its time zone settings.
So I get home and click on my computers clock in the bottom right hand corner to bring up the date and time properties and sure enought my time is correct, the date is correct and the time zone is correct (Eastern Daylight Time). So I look through the different tabs (Date & Time, Time Zone, Internet Time). The first thing I tried to do was to change where my computer syncs its internet time. It was originaly set on NIST time. I then switched it to Windows time, but this didn't do anything. My clock would still change when I synced to itunes. The next thing I tried was fideling around in the Time Zone tabs. I noticed that the box that says "Automatically adjust clock for daylight savings" was unchecked, so I checked it and my computer's time jumped an hour ahead. So I left the box checked but moved my clock one hour back (to the correct time), clicked on apply and left it at that. I synced my iPhone and voila! The time didn't change! It stayed on the correct time! To to make a long story short, make sure that you computer's clock is set on "automatically adjust clock for daylight savings changes, make sure your time zone is correct, and that the time is right when that box is checked. I hope this helps you. I'm glad I got a new phone out of the deal;)
    Chris P. "

As I mentioned in my post, whenever I checked that box the time would be incorrect. It would move up an hour. I've messed with this along time ago, way before I got my iphone. I think this had something to do with the daylight savings change that was implemented this year or last year. I dont remember if I never tried correcting it before, or if I couldn't, but this time I didn't have any problems correcting it. Anyway, since I couldn't correct it back then, I just left the box uncheck and decided that I would change the time manually when the next time change occurs. But it seems to work fine now so all is well.

  • I cannot open project; do I start all over, or is there hope?

So I have started doing video podcasts and am using iMovie '11 for editing the footage.
I exported my first episode which turned out to be around 18 min total. When I watched it to verify, the audio started becoming out of sync with the video. It got progressively worse. Searching these forums and the Internet, I found other users were noticing the same problem. One workaround was to extract the audio from each and every clip. I tried this and it worked. The exported movie had no video/audio sync problems. So I thought that would be my workflow.
Then I started working on my second episode. It turned out to be a long one clocking in at an hour and 45 min. It consisted of some complicated edits and a very large number of separate clips. I started my tedious workflow and workaround of extracting the audio from each and every clip so the exported movie would have video/audio in sync. The process got progressively slower and slower. At some point about halfway through, when I right clicked on an clip to extract the audio, the spinning beach ball came up and iMovie hung. I restarted and tried again, but the same result. When I restarted again, iMovie would not start. I can double click my first episode project and open it, but the second episode will not load; well, it will load sometimes, but if I do anything with it, including just moving the mouse, spinning beach ball and hung. Searching the Internet, I found recommendations to clear the cache and plist. This didn't help any for me. Sometimes, iMovie will hang when I simply select the project in my project library; sometimes, I can select the project and quickly get to the menus. I tried doing this and duplicating the project, but the duplicated project showed the same symptoms.
Unfortunately, I did not keep backups and I don't know why I didn't with such a large project. I've learned my lesson.
Question: Is there any hope of getting the project to a state where I can salvage it? Anyway to reattach the audio outside of iMovie or something?
I also realize now that iMovie is probably not meant for such large, complex projects. But, the video/audio sync issue doesn't seem to be that hard to reproduce. I have submitted feedback for that.
If I decide to continue using iMovie, I am going to add to my workflow that a project cannot be over x minutes long, export the parts, and combine them with Quicktime.
Question: Are there recommended guidelines for a single project's complexity or length?
I am hoping for some answers here; otherwise, I guess I'll have to start all over and spend the next two days re-editing.

I have the exact same problem here Jason, only in my case the project is merely 15 mins long...
I noticed the audio sync issues on exported files (needed it as a QT HD to play in front of a whole school assembly) about half way through the audio would go miles out - well over a minute adrift.
Having read some posts I decided to detach the audio as you did, it let me do this for a while then about half way through I got the beach ball and likewise I'm now stuck with an urgent essential project that I can't do anything with. This is on a brand new 27" i7 iMac with all the updates, and no other projects. It's like the dark days of Pinnacle on windows, I thought this stuff was supposed to just work!
Does anyone have any suggestions on a fix - I've repaired permissions, tried trashing the iMovie prefs etc but it still hangs every time.

  • Hello all.   Hope someone can help me. I recently downloaded some  updates for my imac.  Since doing this the computer starts up but I get no logon box.  The home screen opens but I can't open any programs or files. I've tried rebooting, no joy. Help!!

Hello all..   I hope someone here can help.  I recently downloaded some updates to my imac.  Since then the computer starts but I get the home screen opening without the logon box.    I can't open any programs or files and if I click on the Safari tab it disappears from the dock.  I've tried rebooting with no joy.
I contacted technical help at Apple and was told to hold down the ctrl and alt keys with two other keys, I think the S or P keys when powering up. This worked
and the computer seemed fine but now the problem has reappeared.  Is there a way to removed downloaded updates from the computer or revert it to an earlier state?   Sorry for the long question. Hopefully one of you clever people can help.   Simon

It's always good to go with one thing at a time and stay focused on that. Let's start with the OS you're running. Click on the Apple menu > About This Mac. What does it say under Mac OS X version ?
