I have check theĀ firewall and that port is allowed. This same thing happens on my iphone. I have looked though the logs and searched the net for two days now and i am not getting any where in solving it. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

I was using Firefox earlier in the day with no problem. About half an hour ago I tried to get on the Internet using Firefox (as always). When I did, I was greeted with a little dialog box showing that something was downloading. That's happened before.
This time, though, I was greeted by an error page that said Firefox was configured to use a proxy server that's refusing connections.
I'm not on a network. I have a desktop computer that connedts to a wireless modem that I share only with my wife. I didn't change my settings on either. Neither did my wife.
My "Connection Settings" box still says "use system proxy settings." There are no entries in the manual settings boxes.
I want to emphasize that I changed *nothing.*
I need to know, please, how I can set my computer to get back onto the Internet or, failing that, how I can go back to the previous version of Firefox.
Thank you very much.

Any version of Firefox above 3.5.4 I try to install will not let me get to the internet. Each Firefox gets upgraded it keeps giving me the error message that "Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections." Then I need to re-install 3.5.4 to get to the internet. This is driving me nuts! How do I fix this?
You're welcome

Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections
I try to go online with Firefox 4.0 and I keep getting the error Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections. I go to tools then settings then options and click on one of 3 buttons No proxy, auto detect proxy settings for this network, use system proxy settings, and manual proxy configuration if I get rid of the numbers in the boxes. After I check one of them I retry it then it works until I close firefox. When I open firefox again it repeats the same thing all over again.
I am tired of resetting it over and over again and have been using Internet Explorer because it works fine. I don't know how to make it work. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? You can find the connection settings in Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection

As above, was using the updated version for a short time before this happened
You may have installed an extension that made changes to the connection settings.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily. -
The message also states that I should check the proxy settings to make sure thaey are correct-I have no idea what this means, and says also to contact the network administer to make sure the proxy server is working. This is my home computer so I guess I am the administer. If it is any help I run system mechanic 10.5,but cannot find anything in system mechanic that I recognize as helpful.

Recently McAfee recommended I block 'roaming.dwm.exe' which I did. Could that have caused the problem? Since then I have swapped to AVG which found 3 Trojans and removed them, but I still cannot access Firefox. I have checked my Internet Connections settings and nothing is entered there.
Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> Connection
Try selecting the "No Proxy" setting. If it doesn't work, select "Use System Settings". If this still doesn't solve the problem, leave the setting at "Use System Settings", then check your connection's settings (in Windows, not FF).
