1080/50p to mp4 playback issue

Original camera capture from JVC HM600 1080/50p H.264 converted to Apple Pro Res 422 and imported into FCP7. (iMac OSX 10.7.5) Movie exported as default MOV. MOV then converted to mp4 using Mpeg Streamclip.
Problem is mp4 file not playing back when connected to tv or monitor using usb pen drive. TV plays audio only and monitor says file not supported.
Conversion never been a problem before when using other camera formats such as 1080/50i or 1080/25.

I think this was the issue. I used MPEG Streamclip to compress to mp4 again but at 25fps this time - and now plays back ok.
Thanks for your help

  • Lumia 800 and 23.976 FPS MP4 - Playback Issue

Quite lately, I have been wondering, if I should bring up this issue or not. Thought, what the hell - lets pen it down anyway.
So here's the deal, I have a lot of 720P DTS/DD HD movies which I generally re-encode to H.264 lower bit rates (1500 to 2000 kbps) and  Audio to AAC and finally MUX them in MP4 (sounds terrible right !). The resultant file plays fine on VLC, HOWEVER, its terribly laggy/jerky on Lumia 800.
After a lot of hit and trial, I found a workaround though : Mux the H.264 Video stream @ 25 fps and Speed up the Audio from 23.976 to 25. Now the movie playback on Lumia is tolerable but not that smooth.
My N8 can play 23.976 Movies just fine. Now the Question - Why is Lumia 800 not able to playback the most widely used 23.976 framerate encoded movies and why I have to increase the FPS (to 25) in order to achive a decent playback.
PS: Movies which are @ 30 fps has absolutely brilliant playback on Lumia, though. But unfortunately, we cannot speedup 23.976 to 30, coz speeding up the Audio to 30 framerate makes the audio sound terrible and cartoonish.
EDIT : Let's make it more clear. The culprit is not 720p. I even tried resizing the video to 800x450 (Progressive) and keeping the original framerate to 23.976.The playback is still noticeably jerky. So the culprit is definitely the framerate.
    Cheers !!

@ noenid : Hey buddy... Still stuck with the playback issue.. I realized that long back and am glad that I finally gave up on Nokia. Few weeks back I just bought Sony Xperia Z. Now that's what a "smartphone" should be... Its almost impossible to find something that the "Z DOESN'T DO"...
Maybe Nokia can convince Microsoft to re-design the Windows Phone OS and bring it at part with other OS. I really don't know why Microsoft chose to go the "Apple Way"... They may say "Security" >> to which I say "**bleep**"....
And why do I say **bleep** ?? Depite all the security and locked OS API's, I still don't see any substantial acceptance of Windows Phone OS in Business community... Android on the other hand, was highly criticized for being "vulnerable" >> But look around man... Almost every banking / IT / Financial Sector have their apps on it.. I really don't want Windows Phone OS to roll-over and die...
As they say: You can fool me once, but not twice...

  • Mp4 Playback Issues....

    Strange one with iTunes 7.....
No other problems but all the stuff I have encoded in MPEG-4 video plays really choppy, but the sound plays fine.
Just ripped a small video clip, one in MPEG-4 and one in H.264 and the H.264 works no problems. Always used handbrake to rip and had no problems with the previous version of iTunes.
The problem files qwork fine on the actual iPod itself when played back.

    Hey
I Had the same problem. I Removed all 3rd party codecs from HD/library/quicktime. Itunes returned to normal playback of all formats. One by one I then dragged all the files back and relaunched Itunes until I found the offending one.
It was 3IVX on my computer. Once dragged back in place I launched Itunes and the Videos returned to poor performance. There is no longer any need for me to use this codec so I deleted it. Since then all is well. Hope this helps.

  • Video Playback Issues With Apple TV3 Running OS8

I have two Apple TV3s (Both Pre 2013)
One updated today to the latest OS8, the other still running the previous OS7.1.2
Now when trying to play virtually any of my own MP4 videos the OS8 firmware version Apple TV3 refuses to play the file.
Apple TV simply displays "An error occurred loading this content" (retrying simply displays the same error again)
If I then use the second Apple TV3 (running the older firmware OS7.1.2) and try to play exactly the same files from the same iTunes library the file will play back correctly.
So far the OS8 Apple TV3 is unable to play over 95% of the video files it could previously play prior to the firmware update.
The odd file will play but these files are of differing resolutions so don't appear to share anything in common. It is always the same files that will or wont play.
All video files are Profile 4.0 or lower and contain the required audio tracks.
    I am running iTunes 11.4.0.18 (Windows 8.1)
Prior to the update every video file played correctly (on both Apple TVs) and the second Apple TV3 (using the earlier OS7.1.2 firmware) still plays the exact same files correctly.
Music files are unaffected and playback correctly on both Apple TV3s.
The latest firmware update appears to have corrupted the video playback of the Apple TV3 in some way.
I have even tried a complete USB restore of the OS8 Apple TV3 but this has made no difference.
Has anyone else experienced MP4 playback issues since updating their Apple TV3 to OS8?
    Thank you in advance.

After further tests it would appear that Apple TV 7.0 (OS8) firmware is unable to play any video file with NO CHAPTER markers.
If I use MetaX to simply tag an unplayable MP4 file with a single chapter, that file will now play correctly using an Apple TV3 running Apple TV 7.0 (OS8). If the single chapter is then deleted the same file reverts to being unplayable.
In previous versions of Apple TV firmware any video file with NO CHAPTER markers could be played correctly and the Apple TV would automatically generate chapter markers at equally distributed time gaps.
For some reason Apple TV 7.0 (OS8) firmware appears to have removed this auto chapter marker feature so if a file has no chapter markers the Apple TV will now consider the file as invalid.
With MetaX it is possible to manually generate additional chapter markers so you can still skip through the file rather than only scan.
iFlick for Mac should I suspect be able to do the same thing.

  • Video playback issues in Air for Android

    Hello everybody
I am developing an advertisement application which plays multiple videos. I have faced a very strange problem: nor the simple Video nor the StageVideo are not visible when I run the app on target android device. I can hear the audio but the only way to get the video is to press back button and then get back to app but in this case the video goes over the UI. This happens only on a target device which is a chinese sibo android tablet. It has android 4.1 on board. I have seen a lot of people had the similar issues:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5429125
but the solution mentioned there - adding <containsVideo>true</containsVideo> to the manifest xml doesnt help
I am using adobe air 4.0 sdk and the air 4.0 runtime on the device.  I have tried to change renderMode to CPU/Direct/Auto but it doesn change anything.
The other three android devices I have - toshiba thrive tablet(4.0.4)/ eken tablet(4.2.2)/ htc desire c(4.0.3) play all the video content without any problem.
Any advice will be highly appreciated,

  • 1080 50p importing problem.

I have imported 1080 50p avchd into fcpx but it plays back at practically 25p with missing every other frames (like a freeze-frame of the previous frame) but some of it has imported correctly from the same card and camera. It says it has imported it all at 50fps, but it clearly hasnt. Same problem with 720 50p files, some fine, some wrong. Does anyone know what has happened?

  • Panasonic TM700 recording in 1080/50p (PAL) - how do I get onto a MAC?

    Hi
I have just purchased a Panasonic TM700 and recorded a few test shots in 1080/50p.... only to discover that neither I-movie or Final Cut Express can import the recordings.
The Panasonic software provided is only PC friendly (and I'm not going there!) so has anyone got any suggestions as to how I can get them onto my MAC...
    Many thanks
    Steve

There will be several qualifications to my answer, because I work with 60p NTSC, and I'm not sure if PAL is significantly different or not. The main issue I think will be if the native video files are .mts.
When you connect the camera you should be able to navigate to the native files with this path: Camera Mem/AVCHD/BDMV/Stream/.mts. Copy the .mts files.
I use a program called Clipwrap to convert these files to .mov files. A free version limited to 1 minute clips is available for download.
Once you have the .mov files, you can import them to iMovie.
The other way to get the files on to your computer is record a small bit of video with HA 1080i setting. With that small bit, along with your 1080p clips, iMovie will allow the function of "Archive All" which will get the camera memory contents on to your computer, but you still have to convert the mts files with Clipwrap, in order to work on them.

  • 4K Video on MBP: Playback Issues

I tried to run a 4K (30 fps) MP4 video on an early 2011 15" MacBook Pro with a quad core processor (Inter Core i7 2.2 GHz), 8 GB of RAM, Samsung SSD 840 PRO, an integrated graphics card (Intel HD Graphics 3000 with 512 MB of VRAM), and a discrete graphics card (AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 1GB of VRAM). Unfortunately, the video playback was not smooth and at times it would skip some of the frames. I thought the hardware on this MBP is more than enough to run the 4K video, but I am not sure why there are issues with playback.
Surprisingly, I ran the same 4K video on a 13" Retina Macbook Pro (Late 2013) and the video playback was very smooth and there were no playback issues at all! The 13" Retina MBP comes with a dual core processor (Intel Core i5 2.6 GHz), 16 GB of Ram, flash storage, and an integrated graphics card (Intel Iris with 1.5 GB of VRAM).
Does anyone know why would the 13" Retina MBP outperform the 15" MBP in 4K video playback? Thanks.

    Hi there
Firstly, sinanju, yup that's a great bit of video - good quality too. My worry with it is 100MB for 5mins... means some whopping great films! I have had a brief play with other settings - so far getting reasonable quality but with interlacing issues that would need to be sorted.
TinyBeetle - excellent find, this plays my existing videos with HW support directly.. qand I like that it remembers previous positions of everything watched! - and I can rotate it 90 degrees in the 'other' direction for playback - they can't all do that.
So in conclusion, for me, BSPlayer seems to do what I need it to do, though I will keep the other players handy just in case.
(oh, and about the sound, I reckon this is a specific issue with trying to listen at low volumes, which most of the time won't be happening as I'll generally be somewhere louder and need more sound. It's still not great as it's an issue that's tehre but it's not a dealbreaker - for me.

  • Mp4 movie issues

I've added mp4 movies to my itunes. they are playable but every 3-4 minutes they will stop, stutter for a few seconds and the continue which is an annoyance in itself but it causes the sound to go out of sync with the picture meaning I have to pause and play for it sync again. any help to stop these stutters?

  • 1080/50P Blues

I bought a Panasonic HDC SD700 camcorder and shot some video in 1080/50P. iMovie, it seems, does not support this which seems a bit odd for Apple! I can only download those clips that I shot in a lower format to my MacBook Pro 2.66. I have searched this site for some solution but with no real success. I really would appreciate any help in finding a solution so that I can edit my clips and save myself money by not having to buy more SD cards.

  • How can 1080/50p edited videos be delivered?

Having spent the last couple of years slating the 1080/50p (or 1080/60p) format for general film-making I am now prepared to give it another chance!
It appears that 1080/50p can now be edited in a 1080/50p project in FCP X.
I imagine the problem arises when you come to export.
Can it be exported to H.264 for playback on the web at 50fps?
If exported to DVD will its frame rate be reduced to 25fps?
Pros and cons of using this format would be appreciated.

The web doesn't care what you put on it. The person who has to download will though. Standard DVD only supports 25p. Blu-ray only supports 50fps in 720p not in 1080.

  • IPhone 5 music playback issues (after iOS 8 upgrade)

    Hi,
After upgrading my iPhone 5 to iOS 8 I have had many playback issues with my Music. Songs randomly skipping or stopping without even doing anything are some of the issues. Also sometimes when I am listening to a song it would fast forward the music.
P.S. I don't sync my music, I just manually add content.
Is there any way I can fix this problem?
    Thanks
    L

My wife had something like this happen with her iPad. The problem was that the device had not been synced and so some file were not loaded on the device.
The way to correct the problem is to plug the device into the computer and tell it to sync.

  • Stuttering flv playback issue- need help asap

We need help asap. Have a project is due to deliver today (5/14).
We have a video to go on a dvd-rom, live action with Motion Graphics behind.
When output is done thru Projector the Motion Graphics stutter as they scroll.
    Here is more technical info:
    Stuttering flv playback issue:
Prores 422 timeline 29.97fps 1280x720 output from fcp using current settings.
Mov file is approx 7gb, plays relatively smooth on a mac pro with no raid.
Frame by frame analysis shows all frames are present with no jumps tears or skips.
Tried several output paths, programs and settings to create a smooth flv file to no avail.
We adjusted data rates from 2k, 3.5k, 4k and 8k, no luck
We adjusted keyframe rates from low to all frames, no luck.
We tried cs3 flash encoder, cs5 media encoder, squeeze ect, same results.
Playback in the flash projector seems to choke slightly no matter what we do.
Have also posted in the Director Forum.
    Any help much appreciated!

Here are a few ideas off the top of my head:
Try playing the file using a different xtra, sometimes different ones will work better.  If you have Director 11.5, there is a native flv playback xtra.
You can build a player easily in Flash using the flvPlayback component, then bring that into Director as a swf.
Once you have the video in Director, try making the member Direct To Stage (DTS).  If it is already DTS, try making it not DTS.
Make sure the video is not transparent, and nothing in Director overlaps the video... in fact, when the video is playing, nothing should be moving at all, and try to keep the amount of code that is running to a minimum.
Try lowering your video's data rate further or try using a different codec.
Using VBR (Variable Bit Rate) compression often makes the video appear to play smoother.
Try compressing the flv with different software.  FFMpeg, for example, is free and does a very good job, often better than the Flash Video Encoder that comes with Flash/Creative Suite.

  • Weird Playback Issue...

I have this weird playback issue with iTunes for Windows. I am using Vista and I think the cause of the problem is that I am using MacDrive to access my OS X partition. But anyways, on with the problem. So the problem is that when I play a song, the song will play for like 5 seconds and then it will just go the next song. This song will do the same thing, and so-on and so-forth. Then, during this time, my Mac formatted hard drive is unavailable while iTunes is running. In "My Computer" the drive is there, but when I try to open it, Explorer freezes. Then, when I exit iTunes, it doesn't really exit. It still shows up in the task manager and when I try to end the process, it just plain doesn't end. I have to restart my computer to gain full use of it again. After the restart I can access my Mac disks, but once I start iTunes and try to play a song, I get the same thing again. And in case thats not weird enough, I can play the MP3's in WMP fine, and they will also play in iTunes fine if I actually open them, rather than just select them from my library. If I go to file open and select a song on my Mac drive, it will play fine, but then once I try to play a song from my library, I get caught in that vicious cycle. Anyone else had this problem or anything? Thanks. Also, is there an alternative program to Mac Drive that will allow me to read HFS partitions?

Post more about your situation... what format is the video, and where are you storing the video files? i.e., on a disk other than your startup disk? The adobe install is likely not the problem... I run adobe software along side FCS on about 75 workstations, and don't see issues like you describe.
Wavy? not accurate? what are you talking about?

  • Playback Issues with multiple framerates and Blackmagic Decklink 4K Extreme

I recently swapped by AJA Kona Card for a Blackmagic Decklink 4K Extreme in order to get external monitoring in DaVinci Resolve.
I'm working in a 1080p 23.976 project that includes some 29.97 SD and HD footage. When loading this 29.97fps footage into my source footage, I periodically encounter frozen playback (The play triangle in my toolbar becomes a square symbol and remains that way). From there I am unable to playback any footage in any timeline, and requires a full system shutdown to return to normal! The problem is seemingly intermitent, with successful playback happening sometimes.
The 29.97 footage was DVCPRO, I attempted to transcode to Prores to troubleshoot. No dice. I believe it to be an issue related to the Decklink's inability to handle multiple framerates on-the-fly but wanted to submit here, too. I've also experienced intermittent sync delays on my broadcast monitor.

    Premiere CC 7.2.1
Mac OSX 10.9.2 (same problem pre-mavericks)

    Hi Andy,
You should not have any issues with Blackmagic handling multiple formats on the fly. However, I believe the frozen playback issues your describing is related to the Desktop Video 10 driver. I suggest rolling back to 9.3.3 for the time being. Blackmagic is looking into this issue now.
