10g - ASYNCH I/O with RH3 U2
I tried to run 10.1.0.2.0 with asynch io - system crashed during import.
I followed the steps in Metalink Note 225751.1 (Note 270213.1, Bug No. 3438751)
Filesystem for database files is latest OCFS, kernel is the latest firewire kernel.
Any advise how to konfigure best the oracle initialization parameters???
The answer is yes - async IO is supported
Let Oracle decide when need it (hint=setall)

Can you help me resolve this problem?
Thanks a lot.Hi,
looks like the database connection could not be established. The document contains a step-by-step description of how to ensure that the connect is working after deploying the BC as EJB. You can configure the BC tester to work with the EJB deployment to see if the model works.

10g Primary database work with a 11g Standby database
Can a 10g Primary database work with a 11g Standby database?
The existing database is Oracle 10g and I don't want to upgrade it. But I really need the Real-time Query feature of 11g Physical Standby Database.
Can they work together?Hi,
do you have any proof?
I never find any proof in Oracle Docs.Kindly refer to doc's and check things it states Primary and Standby Servers Versions must be same - similar to that you can find very much clear. That is more than enough for proof else Test it you will find your self...;-).

Oracle 9i/10g - OCP
http://oracleinternals.blogspot.com/ -
Installed 10g on W2K3 concurrently with 9i - cannot connect to 10g
On a Windows 2003 server running Oracle 9i, I installed the Oracle 10g database. After the installation, I'm unable to connect to 10g database but can connect fine to the 9i instance. .
At the SQL prompt, while trying to log as system/manager@STR05CI I get the following errors:
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
If I connect as sysdba to start the database, I encounter the following errors:

Some of the things done:

-Two different ORACLE_SID (one for 9i -D5BSM - and one for 10g - STR05CI)
-Shutdown the listener for 9i and running only the listener for 10g
-modified slqnet. ora with SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NONE)
-All ports on 1521
Pasted below is the status of the listener:

Besides the things listed above, I've been unable to locate other instructions on how to install two different database versions on the same server.
Also, how do I resolve the 'status UNKNOWN' for the STR05CI instance so that it becomes READY?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks! You have an entry LOCAL_LISTENER in your spfile, that's not necessary (at least for single - non RAC - instances) as long as listener is running on port 1521. If you specify this parameter, you have to add address resolution to tnsnames.ora .
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
Basically that means database is not started, it also happens when tnsnames.ora entry points to an non-existing SID.
'UNKNOWN' means there's a static entry for the instance in listener.ora, 'READY' is shown when there was a dynamic registration of the instance with the database. PMON background process does this automatically, when there's no entry in listener.ora and listener runs on port 1521.

MULTIPLE USERS 10G RAC ORACLE_HOME INSTALL WITH ASM/CRS
Hi,
We need to install multiple 10g RAC databases on a two node Sun servers. Below is our configuration:
1) Sun Solaris (ver 10) with Sun Cluster 3.2
2) One ASM/CRS install (by 1 OS account)
3) Four ORACLE_HOME 10g database install (by 4 different OS user accounts)
We would like to use one ASM instance for all four databases with appropriate privileges.
OS User: OS Group
======== =========
oraasm dbaasm - (ASM and CRS install owner)
ora1 dbaora1 - first db owner
ora2 dbaora2 - second db owner
ora3 dbaora3 - third db owner
ora4 dbaora4 - fourth db owner
I understand that certain privileges need to be shared between ASM/CRS and DB owners. Please let me know the steps to be followed to complete this install.
Thanks in advance.Hi
Please read that: Documentation http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B10766_08/intro.htm
- You can install and operate multiple Oracle homes and different versions of Oracle cluster database software on the same computer as described in the following points:
-You can install multiple Oracle Database 10g RAC homes on the same node. The multiple homes feature enables you to install one or more releases on the same machine in multiple Oracle home directories. However, each node can have only one CRS home.
-In addition, you cannot install Oracle Database 10g RAC into an existing single-instance Oracle home. If you have an Oracle home for Oracle Database 10g, then use a different Oracle home, and one that is available across the entire cluster for your new installation. Similarly, if you have an Oracle home for an earlier Oracle cluster database software release, then you must also use a different home for the new installation.
If the OUI detects an earlier version of a database, then the OUI asks you about your upgrade preferences. You have the option to upgrade one of the previous-version databases with DBUA or to create a new database using DBCA. The information collected during this dialog is passed to DBUA or DBCA after the software is installed.
- You can use the OUI to complete some of the de-install and re-install steps for Oracle Database 10g Real Application Clusters if needed.
Note:
Do not move Oracle binaries from one Oracle home to another because this causes dynamic link failures.
. If you are using ASM with Oracle database instances from multiple database homes on the same node, then Oracle recommends that you run the ASM instance from an Oracle home that is distinct from the database homes. In addition, the ASM home should be installed on every cluster node. This prevents the accidental removal of ASM instances that are in use by databases from other homes during the de-installation of a database's Oracle home. -

Oracle 10g on SuSE 9 with kernel 2.6.4
Hi,
i have installed Oracle 10g on SuSE 9 Professional with kernel 2.4.21-192 and it works fine.
For testing purposes i have installed a 2.6.4 Kernel and get the following error on database startup:

Do you have any hints or is the kernel 2.6 not supported.
Thanks Klaus/* using strace I have narrowed this down to the shmget call for allocating SGA memory. Specifically 2.6 kernel generates a WAIT in this call and Oracle specify IPC_NOWAIT flag, hence the failure condition.*/

Upgrade Oracle Client 8.1.7 to 10g on Windows 2003 with IIS / ASP
I am having problems after I install 10201_client_win32 on Windows 2003 which uses IIS ASP application to connect via ODBC to Oracle databases.
tnsping and m/s access can connect but for some reason my ASP application can not connect but doesn't give me any error messages just hangs during ASP database connection
I have a mixture of 8i and 10g DSN connections which I use, I'm not sure if I need to un-install 8.1.7 driver or remove all 8i ODBC to enable this to work
Should ASP be able to connect to a mix of 8 and 10g drivers?
Perhaps some DLL incompatibility or install issue.
Note it works ok on XP workstation but not so far on Win2003 server.
Any help to verify install or things to check would be appreciated
PaulSince 8.1.7 was never certified on Windows 2003, it's entirely possible that it would cause some problems and might interfere with the 10g client.
If you are confident that the setup on your XP box is identical to the setup on the 2003 box, I would tend to suspect that the 8.1.7 client was causing the problem.

Oracle 10g R2 - Metadata Issue With Version Controlled Resources
We are trying to utilize the Oracle 10g R2 feature that allows user-defined metadata to be attached to XML DB resources. However, we are encountering errors when we try to append/attach metadata to a version-controlled resource (VCR). The following steps were followed:
1. Register a new schema to be used for metadata (XMLSCHEMA.registerSchema).
2. Add a new resource to to the XML DB and make it version controlled (DBMS_XDB.createResource and DBMS_XDB_VERSION.makeVersioned).
3. Checkout the newly created version-controlled resource (DBMS_XDB_VERSION.checkout)
4. Add metadata to the version-controlled resource (DBMS_XDB.appendResourceMetadata)
However, after step 4, the errors shown below are encountered:
========================================================
begin
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [qmxStrCopy: INLOB 2], [], [], [],
ORA-06512: at "XDB.DBMS_XDB", line 890
ORA-06512: at line 2
========================================================
The steps followed for adding metadata to a resource were taken from Chapter 26 of the "Oracle XML DB Developer's Guide 10G Release 2" (http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14259/xdb_repos_meta.htm#sthref2302).
Is is possible to append and maintain metadata to an XML DB version controlled resource (VCR)? If so, what are the correct steps to do this? Note that if this is tried with a resource that is not version controlled, then no errors are encountered.
Thanks,
SteveIt appears that this issue has been solved in the next release of the database

Oracle 10G application server integrate with e-business suites 11i
Hello,
Server A:
i have one UAT server which is installed with e-business suites 11i. The users logon to discoverer from e-business suites using the username and password stored in e-business suites.
Server B:
then, i now hv to set up a 10G application server and 10G discoverer on a new server. The user request that they want to login to discoverer using the username and password as mentioned above. They reject to logon to database using 'connect directly', 'open connection' or 'private connection'.
what can i do in order to synchronize the username from Server A to Server B so that they can logon using the username and password they created in e-business suites.
thank you.follow note 313418.1 it will let you use your oracle apps 11i with discoverer 10g, with the same user name and password, i did it before you may want to check my post after you check oracle note

Issue in oracle 10g thin XA driver with weblogic 7 SP5
Hi there,
We are using oracle 10g thin, thin XA drivers(10.2.0.3) with oracle 10g as back end database and weblogic 7 SP 5. We are getting maximum open cursors exceeded exception after some time.
The issue seems to be with "XAPrepared Statement Cache Size" property. Initially it was set to 5. When transactions are performed the database shows the count of open cursor to 300 which is the limit of open cursors set as database init params.
When we set cache size to zero, the issue disappears and the cursor count is around 45. Even if the statement cahe size is set to 1, after some transactions max open cursor exceeded exception arises.
Can som one elaborate the behavior of this property or the issue which underlies this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Oracle 10g DB create fails with jave.lang.StackOverflowError
Hi all,
wonder if you can help with my issue.
I'm trying to install oracle 10g on Redhat ES4 on a virtual machine (VMplayer) on a HP Elite Book laptop. I've set swapspace to 4GB and have 1.5 Gb of RAM allocated to the virtual machine.
I've set the ulimts and maxproc an the soft/hard nproc/nofile to appropraie values for the create.I don't think it's a java problem at all.................
When I run dbca with the silent install I get the message
"waiting for m_bReaderStarted to be true" - which is never is.
So it isn't making a connection I suspect.
The loistenser also won't start.
10g is installed on linux es4 running on VM Player.
I think the proble ,ay be to do with when I start dbca (or the listener) it doesn't connect.
In /etc/hosts I have
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
and in the tnsnames.ora and listener.ora files i have the 'HOST = localhost.localdomain' (with post = 1521)
Is /etc/hosts and the ora files set correctly ?
