10g Client connections over SSL

Hello,
I have some lightweight applications that need to connect to our 10g server over SSL. Right now, the scripts work fine using the Instantclient (10.2). I was told that the only way to connect over SSL is to have the full Oracle client installed, which I am loathe to do simply because the intent of the scripts is that they are as "light" as possible, though they do need to be encrypted.
I'm having a hard time believing that my only option for an encrypted connection is the full Oracle client, which is waaaaaay bigger than the scripts that need to connect.
Can anyone help point me in the right direction?

To my knowledge, Oracle 10g comes with SSL Required Support Files for Instant Client. But whether that is enough for SSL connection, is another question. May be you can get help form the Instant Client Forum

Are there any issues due to connecting using direct access?

When I try to deploy any software (7-ZIP or Notepad++) to this client I get following error:

I can deploy same software fine to other machines connecting on LAN.

Oracle 10g client connect to oracle 11g server

Hi All,
In my system, i have installed oracle 11g server(11.1.0.6.0). while i try to connect to this server by 10g client in my friends system,which is in the same network,it is showing
ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist,
then i tried with other system (using oracle10g client), its showing
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
then i tried with one another system (using oracle 9i client) -- its is connected.
what may be the problem. not connecting using oracle 10g client. and also different error.

Do you have a single ORACLE_HOME? A single TNSNAMES.ORA?
On that machine, at a command prompt, do a tnsping on the service in question. Also try to connect with sqlplus. Copy the entire session -- commands and results -- and paste it all back here.
On the server machine, log on as the owner of the oracle software, and at a command prompt enter the command "lsnrctl status". Again, Copy the entire session -- commands and results -- and paste it all back here.

Server cannot be connected over ssl

Installed self-signed certificate on the Messaging Server. And started up the messaing server with ssl.
"netstat " shows port 993 is idle. But seems cannot connect to it .
The messaing server was running on a standalone machine, not network connective.
Does ssl require connections over the network?

Did you make the configutil settings to turn any of the ssl functions on?
Did you edit the sslpassword.conf file to add the password for the certificate database?
Did you make a typo? The default name of the cert is "Server-Cert". "server-cert" is not the same, as it's case sensitive.
Did you examine any of the logs and see errors on the restart?
I don't even know what version Messaging you're running. Frankly, you've a whole bunch of homework to do before I can be much help.

SM59 and a HTTP Client Connection Using SSL

All,
I'm running an ECC 6.0 (EHP 5) system. Our ECC System is a dual stack system. We've recently enabled SSL on the ECC's java stack. The SSL Server Certificate has been signed by my organization's internal CA. All of our desktops recognize this CA. I'm pretty sure SM/59/our ABAP system does not.
After enabling HTTPS on the Java Stack (TCP port 5XX01) we disabled the HTTP service (5XX00) per our security overlords mandate.
The only application we have running on the Java Stack is Adobe Document Services. The setup guide for ADS is located here.
As you can see, ADS involves a HTTP Connection in SM59. How do I configure this HTTP connection in SM59 over SSL (HTTPS).
Key considerations:
1. I've not imported our Enterprises' Root CA into the Trusted CAs for AS ABAP for the main reason that I do not know how to. How do I do this?

Presently I have gone to the "Logon & Security" tab of SM59. Under "Security Options" I have set SSL to "Active". SSL Certificate is set to ANONYM SSL (Anonymous). On the "Technical Settings" tab I have updated the port to point to the HTTPS port.
When I test the RFC, as presently configured, the error is "ICM_HTTP_CONNECTION_FAILED", with no additional details or long text.

Getting Server Admin to connect over SSL

According to the help provided with Server Admin:
"By default, Server Admin treats all communications with remote servers as encrypted
using SSL. This uses a self-signed 128-bit certificate installed in /etc/servermgrd/ssl.crt
when you install the server. Communications use HTTPS (port 311). If this option isn’t
possible, HTTP (port 687) is used and clear text is sent between Server Admin and the
remote server."
How do I know that Server Admin is connecting using SSL. I have port 311 open on my router and the server firewall, but when I connect to the server using the localhost name of the server, it saves the password in the keychain as "http://myserver.local".

um... interesting
sudo lsof -i -P
should show you that servermgr is talking, who to, and on which port.
however on my 10.5.1 server, it does not show as connected. I checked on 10.4 servers and it works as expected.

Help with Oracle 10g Client Connectivity from Linux to IBM SAN storage

Hello Oracle Experts,
This is my first post. My client is having oracle 10g database up and running in IBM SAN storage.
We have some NMS tools running in Red Hat Linux version 5. So, these tools require connectivity to Oracle database which is residing in SAN storage connected with the Fibre cables.
How do I establish the connectivity from Linux to SAN storage. If would be glad if you can explain me the steps and also if there is any pre-installation/post-installation, patches and procedures involved.
If it is IP based network we normally give the IP address of the host running the database server. I have no idea about SAN storage connected with Fibre cable.
Please guide me to establish the connectivity from linux 5 to SAN.

Make sure you have network connectivity from linux machine to database server. You need to connect to server where db instance is running and you need not to bother about SAN storage.
make tns entry into client $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora file.
Use sqlplus to connect to database using client.

LastLogonTimeStamp Attribute Not Updated for Computer Account Over SSL-VPN

We like to use LastLogonTimeStamp (LLTS) to find stale computer accounts, disable them, and eventually delete time. What we have found is that domain member computers that connect to the domain exclusively by SSL-VPN (for instance in the case of employees
who work from their home office) do not update LLTS. Consequently these computers frequently appear on stale computer reports.
I suppose the required logon type is never used when connecting over SSL-VPN. Therefore I would like to know if there is a way via a logon script or some other method that we can update this attribute.

That is normal as you connect to VPN using locally cached credentials for the user and the computer accounts.
My recommendation to track these computers is to have an agent that periodically report the computer status (Example: Using Microsoft Intune) or have a scheduled task that will run a script when the user is connected to VPN and register the computer name
as active in a file that is hosted in a share.

Connect MQ V6.0 from MQ adapter over SSL in BPEL 10g

I'm trying to connect to a remote MQ using MQ Adapter from my BPEL(10g) process. I'm able to deploy the process successfully after adding the jars file in server.xml.
My process is a poller one it just dequeue the message upon any message arrival.
But its not picking up the message in spite of having numerous message in queue,in log its showing ,

Web service client behind a proxy server connecting to web service over SSL

Connecting to a remote OpenLDAP server over SSL.

I've been trying for several weeks now to get a remote OpenLDAP server up and running; configured in such a way that it only allows SSL and requires certificate validation.
I've created a CA with a self-signed certificate.
I used that CA to create a server and client certificate.
The server certificate is in /etc/ssl/certs, has a link by the name of its hash.0 pointing to it; permissions are all correct and /etc/ssl/slapd.conf point to it and the CA certificate.
The client certificate is on my MacBook Pro in /etc/ssl/certs along with the CA certificate; each of which also has its hash linked to it. /etc/ssl/ldap.conf is set up properly, the permissions are correct, and the following test command ran as my user produces a successful result:
ldapsearch -v -x -H ldaps://ldap.foo.org -b "dc=foo,dc=org" -d -1
Now the problem part. I open Directory Utility; go to Services with Advanced Settings enabled. After unlocking it, I click the LDAPv3 and the pencil icon.
I hit New... in the window that pops up and use ldap.foo.org as servername, SSL box ticked. I hit Continue, and behold; nothing happens.
It is to say; Directory Utility hangs for a while; after which it goes back to the box I clicked Continue in without any error or warning popping up; but obviously hasn't advanced.
The server logs indicate my Mac had actually connected; received the server certificate; but didn't send a client certificate at which point the TLS connection got aborted for some reason and the session ended.
My Mac Console shows something even more bizare, though:
11/09/08 23:09:22 com.apple.DirectoryServices[97123] Assertion failed: (ld != NULL), function ldapsearchext, file search.c, line 76.
My suspicion is that Directory Utility can't verify the server certificate and aborts the TLS connection. I expect it also uses /etc/openldap/ldap.conf? How can I diagnose the root of this problem?

Though it currently isn't set up to be that way, I'd like to have my client also provide a certificate (CN=lhunath.foo.org) and have the server validate that. For now I've got the server set to:

By the way; about the assertion error I get in Console; here's the relevant source of ldap.c. Looks like ld is not set; probably something going wrong before that with setting up the TLS connection, perhaps? Or not?

FTP over SSL connectivity in File Adapter

Hi All,
I request your suggestion on my problem. I have a scenario idoc to file where I am connecting to my vendor server throught SFTP (Ftp over SSL). In this my vendor specifically told that to obtain secure FTP connectivity to their server they require a pre-approved Secure FTP client be used to access the service.
So as per this requirement first our XI server need to coneect to the pre-approved client and the connectivity will happen to the vender server. He list the pre-approved client as below

Please let me know will this be possible from our file adapter. Currently as per this requirement we open up the port of XI server for SFTP connecvity but through this we can have host to host connection over SFTP and not sure whether we can connect to client software and from their to vendor sever.
Kindly needful your suggestion/solution on this.

Port : 6366 (specified by vendor)
Data connection : Passive
Timeout(secs) : 65
Connection Security: FTPS (FTP Using SSL/TLS) for Control and Data Connection
Command Order: AUTH TLS, USER, PASS, PBSZ, PROT
Keystore: service_ssl
X-509 Certificate and Private Key: ssl-credentials
User Name : Vendor user name
Password: Vendor given password
Connect Mode: Permanantly
Transfer Mode: Text
Maximum Concurrency: 1
and also as per he list given by vendeor we can use *Ipswitch Inc's WS_FTP Professional version 8.02.
Note: We have Deploying the SAP Java Cryptographic Toolkit and also CA certificate used to sign the server certificate added to the TrustedCAs keystore view.
So If possible i request you to kindly provide the details how we need to specify the client software between our XI server and Vender server as you mentioned in your solution.

Error to connect oracle 10g client and designer BO 4.0

I try to connect oracle 10g client and designer BO 4.0.
I created an ODBC connection to function in the administration tools of data sources but I can not connect once in designer.
I tried using the driver directly oracle designer 10 but I have the same error that is this:
DBD: ORA-12154: TNS: connection identifier specified could not be resolved

so it looks like that your TNSNAMES.ORA file isn`t properly configured. Thats why you can connect with the IDT to your Oracle Database.
Your DBA`s should sent you the correct TNSNAMES.ORA file or the entry for your DB prior. After the tnsping works, you will be able to use the IDT properly.

Connecting to Oracle XE via regular 10g client - ORA-12514

I have had the 10g client installled on my computer for a while, for developing against our company Oracle databases. I have now installed the XE database locally on my computer so I can do some local development - according to the information I've been able to find the two should live side-by-side without problem.
I can still connect to our company databases just fine, but I can't get a connection to the local XE database at all.
I've added this line to tnsnames.ora:
XE = (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = XE)))
The error I'm getting connecting is:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor

I did mean duplicates even between different tnsnames.ora files.
As I understand, if you XE works, you should not need do anything for that tnsnames.ora.
Just find how entry should be for client.
BTW, what tool you will use for XE? Do you need client?
E.g. if you use SQL Developer, you do not need client or set anything to tnsnames.ora

At least for me this is more client question than XE.

WLS :: Will Vista web client work with Weblogic Server 8.1.6 over SSL?

Hello,
I have installed 51-2 bit SSL cert on weblogic 7 and found that the secure site doesn't work on Vista web client.
Weblogic gives error in handshaking and says algorithm is not supported.
Vista web client uses some algorithms which were not supported by weblogic 7.
So would like to know if would Vista web client work with Weblogic Server 8.1.6 over SSL?
Any information in this regard would be helpful.

can you use the following debug flags in the weblogic server as java_options and paste the complete ssl handshake exception here.
-Dweblogic.StdoutDebugEnabled=true
