11g HS ODBC database link only returning one column

Hi,
We having a problem with a HS ODBC database link to a SQLServer database - only one column is being returned (when we do a simple 'select * from remote_table@SQLServer_dblink'). We recently set up another HS database link to a MySQL database and that's works okay, even though the init*.ora files have the same settings configured.
Any ideas what might cause this?

The characterset on our Oracle DB is AL16UTF16, but we have already tried several language settings without success (see commented out sections in the *.ora file below) - but interestingly not a UTF16. Is that the problem, do you think?
The collation on the SQLServer DB is 'SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS', if that makes any difference. The db server is Linux (5.6), Oracle db is 11.0.2.0 and the SQLServer db is v.8.
We don't get an error when using the dblink...it's just that only the last column is returned. If we explicitly select any other columns, we get the 'invalid identifier' error. It's the same with whatever table we dblink to...the columns are just standard chars and numerics, nothing large or custom, etc.

I'm trying to count the number of calls & low priorty call from my account table in my databate. There is only one call so far in it. Call = 1 but its priorty is Low so Low should also be 1. I have check my sql in the Database and it return 1 result but in my program Low still = 0.

Is database link only 'valid' for instances in the same server?

Background: We have 5 servers and installed Oracle 7.3 and 8.
Problem: I managed to create database link to other instance in same server; but not to other server. Error message received was :
ORA-02019: connection description for remote database not found
: TNS server name not found
BUT: I managed it with 'copy from ' command in SQL*plus.
Question: Is database link only 'valid' for instances in the same server?

One instance of dbcontrol/dbconsole will support only one database. If you do not use Grid Control (extra installation, extra license) you will need to use the emca utility or one of the options in the dbca utility to configure a seperate instance of dbcontrol for each database. Don't worry about the ports, the creation utility will take care of it and report what it does.

How come Java methods can only return one variable?

I am just curious, how come C/C++/Java methods/functions can only return one argument but can accept many parameters.
I know that the workaround is to return an object, but sometimes creating a class is just too much overhead.

It's an interesting discussion. To get the full answer to your question, you'd have to consult the library and find books on programming language design and implementation.
I believe the tradition goes all the way back to the first programming languages having subroutines/procedures/functions/methods in them: you can return nothing at all (void i Java) or a single value. The need for returning a single value, I guess, comes from the wish to embed calls in arithmetic expressions:
res = 2 * someObject.foo(x) - anotherObj.bar(a,b);To my knowledge, few languages allow you to return more values. One that does is BETA (see www.daimi.au.dk/~beta/). Though not indispensable, it's convenient sometimes. I don't know why it's not more widespread.

CS_WHERE_USED_MAT only returns one level

Hi all,
I need to get the results that CS15 (where-used) gives me when multi-level is checked.
I need to write a program and was hoping to use FM CS_WHERE_USED_MAT. However, this FM only returns the materials that are one level down. I'm on 4.5b.
Does anyone know what FM I can use that will give me the materials at all levels (like CS15 does). I can use CS_WHERE_USED_MAT and feed back in each material until I reach the end of the levels. But I was wondering if anyone has found a better way.

Result Set only returning one row...

When I run the following query in my program, I only get one row.
SELECT * FROM (SELECT * FROM ul_common_log_event WHERE application_name = 'Configuration' ORDER BY cle_id DESC) WHERE ROWNUM <= 500;
However when I run it in TOAD, I get all the rows I am looking for.

Good thinking. That was the first thing I tried. That was not the problem. It turns out that I was stomping my rs object in another method. Problem resolved!

Jdbc:odbc bridge only returning one result when a count show 148 !

Am sure i have done something stupid, but i have an issue with jdbc:odbc ....
It is a simple sceanrio that i have coded umpteen times before ...
I have the following ....
1. Connection to DB2 on an IBM i5 (I apologise for not using native drivers from jt400.jar, but i had an ODBC code example and was in a rush - no excuse i know)
2. Statement object created from connection above
3. A string with my SQL in it
4. A result set for the results.
These are created as follows:

Tags only return one result

I have tagged numerous bookmarks, but when I type the tag in the location (Awesome) bar, only one result is returned. I have disabled all themes and tried disabled most add-ons. Nothing helps.

If all else fails, you could use the JDBC driver for your
SELECTS and your
ODBCJDBC driver for INSERTS/UPDATES. It's a bit of a crap
approach, but at
least it'd work.
Beyond that, I can't be of any help, sorry. Maybe you could
revert to the
7.0.1 version of the ODBC driver?

Trigger and Gate Only Returns One Channel

Hello all,
I am trying to write a VI that will run in the background and start writing some data to a file when it detects a signal. For detecting the signal, the VI uses the "Trigger and Gate" express VI to see when the input voltage goes above a treshhold. Then I plan to write whatever data comes out of the "Triggered Signal" output.
There are 8 channels, with the 6th one being the channel that is being checked for a signal. I have configured the "Trigger and Gate" express VI to trigger when that channel reaches 0.01 V and it does trigger when that happens. However the problem is that the "Triggered Signal" output only contains data for the first channel, and I want it to contain all of the channels.
I don't have access to the device that will be sending the data right now, so I am testing the VI using the "Read From Measurements File" express VI. It reads from a file that contains data that I saved from the device previously. When I set the the "Retrieve segments of specified size" for the express VI, so I can see how it progresses, I get the error I mentioned above. When I set it to "Retrieve segments of original size" (the file contains only 1 segment, so it reads all data), everything works as expected.
Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong?

Can a link only change one cell in a table?

I've been learning Dreamweaver from a textbook, but I'm still pretty new to it, and I'm not sure what terminology to use here. I want my site to have a link that just changes one cell in a table when you click the link, rather than having it go to a whole new page. For example, you click a link and a picture changes but the rest of the site stays the same. So far, I've been doing this by just making several duplicates of an html file, and then just changing that one cell in each copy. It works, more or less, but then whenever I want to make a change to my page, I have to make the same change in all the copies. There's got to be a better way, right?
If this is too complicated to explain in a forum, perhaps someone could just tell me if there's a term for what I'm trying to do, and then I can just look for it in my book or search for it online.

What you are asking for is called a 'disjoint rollover', which means 'something happens over here, and the effect is seen over there'. It's simple to do even manually. Take a look at this page -

I used a table because you specifically asked about tables, but I wouldn't recommend using them for anything other than tabular data, and certainly not for general layout. The code could be re-written like this to completely eliminate the table -

Views created from Database link over dg4msql has column type as long

Hi All,
I am reading some views from SQL server using dg4msql to Oracle database 11G r2.
All working well except columns that are typically varchar2 are now of type LONG. This is causing issues given the wide range of restrictions of data type long.
Is there a way that when I create a view in Oracle like:
CREATE or replace view as v1 (
select a1, a2, a3 from msqlserver_table@dblink)The columns don't come up as long but as varchar2??
Problem is once its in long format, I can't change it to another format in a SELECT statement (like cast it as varchar 2 etc)\

TLF with Flex Spark RichText ColumnCount - only getting one column

Hey, I'm new to using TLF, I'm just trying to get a block of text to display its text flow as 3 columns. I'm using the Spark RichText control (this uses the TLF right?). I have given the control an explicit width of 800 and a height of 200. I've then attached a css style wich specifies a columnCount of 3 for the control. I then populated the controls content property with xml representing a textflow using the tlf markup. I expected this to result in 3 colums of text that are 200px high and each one around 253px wide (allowing 20px columnGap).
However the actual result is a single column that is 253px wide and the text extends beyond the 200px bounds of the RichText control wich does seem to have the correct height of 200px. So it seems the TextFlow is getting that it needs to fit into the columns correctly but it's ignoring the height of the RichText container and so never reaches a bottom so that it can break over to the next column.
How do i get the RichTexts textflow to listen to the RichTexts height and break over to the next column when it reaches the bottom. Do i need to be setting the height of the text flow or somthing.
I'm using the flash builder/ gumbo beta release from the adobe labs site and the TLF version that comes with that version of the sdk. So maybe this is a bug? I cant find any tutorials or solid info about how to use the RichText control to make columns of text so everything I have done here has been guess work, is there anything i am missing?

Hey just a quick update to let you know this seems to be working now! not too sure whats happend, tried a few different things then ended up back at my origional possition and it has broken up into the columns! I feel like I hit an old TV on the side and the picture went clear .
One thing of note that held me up for a while... I read in the decs that the default column gap is 20px so i didn't bother to change it... turns out it wasn't, it was 0px. Combine this with some confusing looking lorem ipsum copy, and I had what appeared to be a solid block of text... meaning i had my 3 columns for a while without realising my achivement... just a little tip incase anyone else out there stumbles on the same thing

ALV display subtotal only on one column

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to display in alv format a report that has the % in the subtotals only. (I still need the individual lines, but not the percentage on them, just on the subtotal).
Can anyone suggest how to do this, for example, by working out the percentage on each line, and hiding the contents except for the subtotals. Or calculating the percentage on the subtotal line. Below is an example of what I'm after.

ORACLE 11g + PHP5 problem: "fetch out of sequence" on remote database link

I have a new server with oracle 11g (11.1.0.7) database and apache/php5 (actual build) on linux.
connection type is dedicated.
when doing a connection to a remote AS/400 database I always get this error:
"Warning: oci_fetch_array() http://function.oci-fetch-array: ORA-01002: fetch out of sequence ORA-02063: preceding line from..."
when doing the same simple "select * from database link" at my old server with oracle 9i and apache/php5 no problem occurrs.
this happens at AS/400 database link only. normal oracle database links work fine.
Anyone an idea how to solve this problem or where the problem is????
further info:
when doing " select * from [ database link ] where rownum < 11 " it works, but when doing the query with more than 10 results I get the error. Any idea?

well a fetch out of sequence usually indicates that a cursor has been closed before the process has finished fetching or some such thing.
I'm not aware of there being a specific problem with the situation you outline, but maybe if you could provide all the connection setup and how you are trying to connect that may give a better idea.
Also, you may be better asking on the General Database Discussions forum as this isn't really a SQL or PL/SQL problem
