11i Installation Issue in Linux
While running the rapidwiz i am facing the following problem
[oracle@vision rapidwiz]$ ./rapidwiz
Rapid Install Wizard is validating your file system......
>> The Rapidwiz will use /home/oracle/oraInventory
/home/oracle/oraInventory
/home/oracle/oraInventory
/home/oracle/oraInventory directory.
>> Creating this directory now and setting write permissions...
>> Please execute the script /tmp/oraInstRoot.sh as root to fix the above errors
But I could find the oraInstRoot.sh in the / tmp folder is empty..
How can I proceed in this scenario..?
Many thanks in advance...
Yes- all said above is correct.
However, if you are a little bit concerned about permissions and all that stuff later on - not that I know anything right now that may be an issue- I would rather change the permissions on /tmp folder to allow anyone and everyone do stuff with it.
i.e run the command 'chmod -R 777 /tmp' ( logging in as root though) to give all permissions to everyone.
That way I wont loose my head trying to figure out if files created as a result of running rapidwiz as root will give the appsmgr or oracleapps users the right priviledges when I decide to continue as such.
Just to mention, that I suspect the user installing the application was probably created but not given the right sets of persion to write to the /tmp folder, hence no oraInstRoot.sh file was created.
ark_505 - was the /home/oracle/oraInventory folder created ? ( sounds silly a question...but you never know what you learn from these kind of questions) and were there log files created there ? Also confirm if the oraInstRoot.sh file was not created in the /home/oracle folder.
All the best in the new year ahead

P6 R8.1 Web Service installation issue on Linux
We are trying to install P6R8.1 web services on weblogic in linux. We have the following setup:
1. Oracle 11g standard database in CentOS-5.4 64-bit
2. P6R8.1/ Weblogic 10.3.3.4 installed on CentOS 5.4 64-bit (separate server).
We have installed as per the oracle installation guide without any warning/ failure. After deploying the .war file (p6ws.war), it also showing Active in Weblogic admin console. But while trying to access the application (http://localhost:7001/p6ws) we are getting error: 403 Forbidden.
We have tested the weblogic by deplyoing some sample .war file and it works fine
After examining, we have found that there is no index.jsp file in the root of the p6ws.war file and it is only 29 mb compare to primaveraweb.ear file which is 194 mb of our existing installation (P6V7 with similar environment).
Is our .war file is not properly generated or we are missing some steps? Or there is any other issue?
Any help will be highly appreciated.
Best Regards,
SandipIn previous versions the following was sufficient:
http://HOST:PORT/p6ws/
The correct URL as of version 8.0 of P6 Web Services is the following:

VijayOther people has had this problem before, you may want to check for it Re: Error RW50004/RW50011.
Most common solution for this issue has to do with the way ksh is being called from the path envrionment variable, and where the install script assumes where it is.
1. Make soft link of the file from /usr/local/bin/ksh to /usr/bin/ksh and before you start your installation start a session in a ksh environment.
or
2. Alter the search path used by the install script. Not advisable, as you are not suppossed to tamper with Oracle code.
or
3. Copy ksh From /usr/local/bin/ksh to /usr/bin

Problems loading standard forms in new 11i installation
Hi
Just installed the 11.5.10 Vision demo on SLES Linux on VMware. The installation went fine, and everything worked
I could access not only the portal, but the forms pages (after installing the supplied jInitiator package)
My problem is, after re-booting the server, everything works just fine (although I have to start up manually) EXCEPT I cannot now start any forms
When I click on a menu choice for any responsibility (say, System Administrator -> Concurrent Requests), jInitiator doesn't start up
I know the client (Windows XP) browser (IE 6) works fine with 11i, as I have accessed other 11i installations on the network without problem
Any pointers to where I should be looking ? It's obviously a server issue
Many thanks
SimonThanks for your help Yury, after checking through the processes and checking and re-checking the error logs, it turned out there was a problem with some of the environment variables
Once correcting that problem, everything starts up fine now. Strange that it only affected the forms server, but hey, it's all fine now -

Hi Alex,
Sorry I've been away and just got back. Presently I'm working from jrun4 and would like to use blazeds instead. Once my projects get going I would need the ability to use my customers already made linux/tomcat boxes and just plug in blaze.
I look forward to your answer.

About "kernel.exec-shield" and "because they will bring security issue" for linux ASE
In " ASE Quick Installation Guide for Linux", "kernel.exec-shield=0" and “kernel.randomaize-va-space=0” should be set.
But SuSE engineers say that “kernel.exec-shield=0”and “kernel.randomaize-va-space=0” will bring the OS security issue.
Customer want to know why ASE need the above parameters ?
Has anybody the idea for customer's question? If the parameters are not set as documented, attempts to start additional engines beyond the first one will fail, generating stack traces.
ASE acts in many ways like it's own operating system, scheduling individual user connections (spids) to actively run (note that ASE was developed well before native threading was commonly available). Each spid has it's own stack information that gets swapped in when it is set to "running" state on the engine and swapped out when it yields the engine. The mechanics of this is not that different from the buffer overrun exploits described in the Red Hat document linked to by the
install guide, http://www.redhat.com/f/pdf/rhel/WHP0006US_Execshield.pdf
and the exec-shield mechanics definatately interfere ASE's operations when ASE is using multiple dataserver processes (engines) that swap spids around.

How to install 11i on Red Hat Linux 64 bit

Oracle 9iAS Installation Issues, Win 2000
Hi Folks,
I'm trying to Install 9IAS on a WIN2000 PE.
I already have Oracle NT Personal Edition (download nt817personal), up and running.
My Question is do I need to use Oracle nt817ee (Enterprise Edition)
Any suggestions ?
ThanksI agree with your 5 P's, but Oracle is killing themselves by not improving the installation issues. Oracle is in a fight to the death with Microsoft, and there are a lot of people who give up on Oracle products because the learning curve is too steep just to be able to login as Scott. I have a lot of experience with Windows and Oracle, and have installed the RDBMS on probably 50 separate machines in the last several years, yet I still cringe when I double click setup.exe since I never know if universal installer is going to abort. I'm not a Unix or Linux guru, and I tried and tried to get Oracle RDBMS 8i to install on several flavors of Red Hat, but I gave up. DB2 and Interbase both installed without the hassles. Take a look at the Linux forum on Technet, and look at the effort that some people are doing to try to get it to work. It should not be this hard. I would like to use Linux/Oracle on some of our servers, but frankly it is too hard currently. You shouldn't need a metal link account to install software on a clean install of Windows, or be a guru at writing device drivers for Linux to install Oracle on that platform.

11i installation problem on NT 4.0 SP6a
I have one 11i installation problem:
envoirment: NT 4.0 sp 6a MEM 394MB, cpu 550MHZ HD 40GB
install MKS, GNUMAKE (3.79), VC++, JDK 1.3 before Apps install.
And I could see which, gnumake.exe on DOS prompt. But the error
message say:
" which command is available; gnumake is not
available."
I already set the path varible path=C:\MKSTOO~1\bin;C:\MKSTOO~1
\bin\x11;C:\MKSTOO~1
\mksnt;C:\VStudio\Common\Tools\WinNT;C:\VStudio\Common\MSDev98
\Bin;C:\VStudio\Common\Tools;C:\VStudio\VC98
\bin;c:\make\WinDebug;c:\make\WinRel
How to fix this problem?
Any comments will be appreciated.Actually, I already did this and found that this works correctly. I guess it
was the "install to d:\\weblogic600" that threw me off...
Thanks,
Robert

Please add "\" after "d:"; this should work. We'll look at making this more
user-friendly for Beta 2.

I tried to install the current beta 1 version of WLS 6.0 today after
uninstalling the pre-release version that I had previously installed
with no problems. The problem is that when I try to set the "BEA home"
to the existing location ("D:" -- so that the product ends up in
D:\weblogic600), the installer claims that I do not have write
permission to that directory. This is hogwash since I am logged in with
administrative priviledges and was easily able to install the
pre-release copy like this (and yes, I have deleted the previous
directory).
Any thoughts?

Lightroom 4.2 Installation Issue
Leaving this around in case anyone else has the same problem -- Solution found -- Windows installer issues / registry issues -- used the Microsoft Fix it tool (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651#reso3) to correct. 4.2 install ran fine.
I've read through the posts in the Lightroom forum regarding LR 4.2 install issues. I will list here the things I've done to try to get the install to work:
1) Downloaded the installation software twice.
2) Ran the setup program in admin user mode.
3) Ran the install in admin user mode.
4) Get the following error in a Windows Installer window:
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click ok to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Adobe_Lightroom_x64.msi' in the box below.
Use source:
c:\Users\RMJF\AppData\Local\Temp\{...}
What I have found (after displaying hidden AppData folder):
The location where the .msi file resides is different from the one defaulting in the above window.
I select this alternate path, but still cannot complete the installation.
Furthermore, when I cancel the install, I get this error:
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.2 64-bit Installer Info
Error 1714. The older version of Adobe Photoshop Lightoom 4.2 64-bit cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group
I have been running LR since the beginning of time and most recently LR 4.1, so there is no 4.2 installed.
Also, I tried to fix the install of 4.1 via the programs in Control Panel. I cannot repair it and get this error:
The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.
All versions (except the 1.0 version) were downloaded and installed from the Adobe LR site.
So, looking for suggestions.
Seems like there are some missing files from the 4.1 version that are hindering the install of 4.2???
All quite frustrating. Hope you can get me to a speedy solution.
(System info: Windows Vista 64-bit Home, SP 2, 20 GB of disk space to spare! Also, I have set the install program to be allowed by the anti-virus program. I have run a registry clean-up, as well. No other apps are running during the install.)
Message was edited by: marzo19untill now, 3 phones later, and mayby 10 attemps later to install it: notting. the errors that i am gething are the same as above, but nothing helps for me.
even the microsoft fixid diden't help.
So also desperate.
