15454 MSTP Y-Cable protection in conjunction with patch-throughs

I have a circuit configured with Y-cable protection on two ends. One of the paths has a patch-through one the client ports at one of the nodes (these are all on MXP MR 2.5G cards), and the protection does not fail over properly. Does anyone know if they Y-cable can be used in conjunction with a patch somewhere downline? Thx.

Have you checked the configutation of the MXP card for Y cable protection.
If that is fine then probably the protection is not working for your MXP card maybe because of software/harware problem.
I am quite sure that patch through in between will be a problem.

The way I read the statements is the length of the outage will depend on where the outage occurs in the network.
If their is a cable break in the network between the 15454 nodes, then the outage could be 15-20 seconds.
If the failure is between the 15454 card and the client port, then the outage will be a couple of hundred milliseconds.
I do not have experience with the OTU2 cards.

Airport in conjunction with Linksys

Im using an airport in conjunction with a linksys that is not wireless. The linksys is connected to 3 PC's via Ethernet, and the 4th port on the linksys is plugged into the airport. This produces internet that has no problems with our apple laptop. however i was wondering if it is possible to share files between the laptop and the PC's with this configuration. If it is possible i havnt been able to figure out how to do it. any information on how to use this configuration and share files or printers would be greatly appreciated. Also any suggestions if there is another way to use this configuration by changing which is plugged into what without purchase of any new items, i.e. connect the airport to the broadband connection and the linksys to the airport (the reverse of what it is currently).

You would just need to reconfigure the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a bridge to allow wireless devices connected to it to "see" the wired devices connected to the Linksys. In a bridge configuration, the AX will "pass thru" the NAT/DHCP services that are provided by the Linksys router.
To set up the AX as a bridge, either connect to the AX's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, using the AirPort Admin Utility (located in the \Applications\Utilities folder), make these settings:
Network tab
o Distribute IP addresses (unchecked)
o Apply the new setting.

What is the best stereo expander software to use in conjunction with OS X Mountain Lion?

Have got a 13" MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion, and am trying to find a great simple stereo/3D/4D type of sound expander software plugin/app to use in conjunction with iTunes and with my computer games. I used to use Astound Sound, by Genaudio, on my earlier Macs...but their site states that they are no longer updating the app...and haven't done so for three years now. Any suggestions?

Get rid of Norton a/k/a Symantec. It is one of the worst pieces of trash you can install on a Mac.
You do not need any additional anti-virus software than is already designed into OS X to protect your Mac against malware. I assume you paid enough for your iMac and that's part of what you paid.
If you use Windows, or are concerned about harboring viruses that target Windows, or care about friends who use Windows, then get ClamXav. It's in the App Store and it is free.
Since friends don't let friends use Windows, I have no use for it.

Can i use Airport Express as a range extender in conjunction with my standard (non-Apple) hub ?

I have poor Wifi signal upstairs in my house. Can Airport Express to extend that in conjunction with my current Hub (it's a Livebox - i currently live in France) ? Or do i need to run the Airport Express in conjunction with an Apple Hub ?

You can extend the Livebox, just not wirlessly as Apple's implementation of WDS only works with other Apple devices.
So you can either use an ethernet cable or as I do with my netgear router turn off the Livebox's WiFi (If that's possible) and use Airports to set up a separate wireless infrastructure. Get 2 APs and plug one directly via etherenet into the Livebox then use WDS to extend this to a second AP wirelessly.

Dual Ring Capabilty for ONS 15454 MSTP

I am designing a MPLS over DWDM network which consist of one core DWDM ring and several regional DWDM ring using ONS 15454 MSTP. I would like to connect the regional ring to the core ring via P router in this case Cisco 12406GSR. My major concern now is to reduce the number of boxes especially on the DWDM part. Can an ONS box connect to 2 DWDM ring, regional and core directly without using a router in the middle. Apreciate your expert opinions. Thanks.

Core DWDM ring and Regional DWDM ring are built using ROADM cards for full add/drop flexibility. Wavelengths can be engineered to pass between rings by physically patching at the wavelength level. By using the Mesh/Multiring Upgrade card (available today - see data sheet below) you can prepare the network for Degree-N capability, allowing multiple rings to be connected via a single point with dynamic wavelength provisioning across the rings.

Latency in MXP on ONS 15454 MSTP

Hi!
Have a question concerning latency in MXP for ONS 15454 MSTP. How do you define and measure it? I mean in for MXP you basically mux many client signals in to one lambda. Since this muxing requires O-E-O process there got to be some latency? Or is the values to small that it become neglible and we dont have to worry about it. My customer is asking me this and I cant come up with a definitive answer. To me there's practically none, it work at optical level, as to determine latency it is enough just from looking and end-to-end ping result on client side. Apreciate your expert advice.

DWDM: ONS 15454 MSTP M6 TNCE and TSCE

In a ONS 15454 MSTP M6 chassy (DWDM) both Transport Node Controller (TNC) and Transport Shelf Controller (TSC) cards can be installed in slot 1and 8 to perform system initialization, provisioning, alarm reporting, maintenance and diagnostics.
Can someboby clarify the following:
1) What is the difference between a TNCE and TSCE Card? (The only difference I found is that TNCE can be configured with one or two SFP ports to provide the OSC termination while TSCE not. Are there other differences? )
2) Is it possible to intall in the same 15454 M6 chassy one TNCE and one TSCE card?
3) Are there any circumstance under which is mandatory to install the TNCE card?
4) Is there any suggested cisco documentation or book explaining it in details?

You can use an Mutiple M6 chassis in one node in a Multi Shelf configuration the TNC cards are designed to go in the the Primary or 1st node and you can use the TSC cards in the other nodes and connect them together using the MSM ports on the ECU cards.
Yes your are correct regarding the OSC ports are not enabled on the TSC cards. The TSC cards are a lower cost then the TNC cards as they are only for use with a subtended shelf.
2) Is it possible to intall in the same 15454 M6 chassis one TNCE and one TSCE card?
I dont believe so however you can install just a single TNCE card in a chassis if you don't require redundancy
3) Are there any circumstance under which is mandatory to install the TNCE card?
I believe a TNCE card is required for any node in a standalone configuration or in a Multi Shelf configuration.

ONS 15454 MSTP Client Connection Options

Have questions regarding client connection options to ONS 15454 MSTP. FYI, I have experience on ONS 15540 ESPx and I usually connect client to the ONS using transponder like this
ONS 15540 ESPx
Client<->transponder<->OADM<->OADM<->transponder<->client
I am new to ONS 15454 MSTP and from the reference manual I understand that the it can be configured as hub, passive oadm, anti ase etc. My questions is how does the client get connected to each of this configurations
For example, for a passive or amplified nodes the client connections would be like this
ONS 15454 MSTP
client<->transponder<->OADM<->OA<->OA<->OADM<->transponder<->client
What about hub nodes where mux/demux card are used, where does the client connect,I do understand that these cards have to be used in pairs.

In both cases, the client (assuming it has a non-ITU output) will connect via a transponder or muxponder card. This takes the client signal and converts (with multiplexing in the muxponder case) the client signal into an ITU wavelength.
On the MSTP, the ITU port on the transponder/muxponder is then physically patched into the appropriate port on either ROADM, OADM or Mux/Demux cards.
To directly answer your question, on a hub node equipped with Mux/Demux cards, the Tx from the Transponder is connected to the Mux card, and the Rx connected to the Demux. Likewise, at the node where the wavelength is dropped (eg at an OADM site), there will be an equivalent transpoder connected to the OADM module (Tx and Rx at wavelength xyz).
The transponders/muxponders may be in the same shelf, separate shelves, or you may use a direct ITU connection from devices such as a DWDM GBIC, an SDH DWDM card or 10GE XENPAK from Catalyst 6500.
As long as you have designed the network to take the appropriate interface types into account, you should be fine.

I can no longer access a password protected Numbers file with the correct password. Error message only says the file "cannot be opened."

I'm using Numbers version 3.2.2.

This listed below will fix it...
Go to General > Restrictions > CarPlay -- Make sure Carplay is DISABLED. (The new IOS 8 enables this on default)
Go to General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
The Nissan Rogue radio system was never designed to work with CarPlay. By default, CarPlay feature comes enabled when you install IOS 8. Suckz, right?

If you want to see what is in a file that is backed up by time machine then you have to restore the entire file. Having said that I have had good experience with Time Machine and individual files... if the file is there then all of it's components are almost for sure there. A way to get around this in Aperture would be to use referenced images. The images then still exist as individual files and can be backed up and restored individually. You would have to do so on a file by file basis though and your album information would still only be saved within the Aperture library.

HP laserjet 1200 using windows7. My computer has USB ports, but no parallel port, so the computer is cabled to the printer with a usb to parallel adapter. Sometimes works fine, sometimes system states printer as ready, but will not print. Reboot hardware and on restart, I got one page to print. Next attempt to print puts the document in cue, but just sits there -- no error message. Finally, after multiple restarts, I got it to print (have no idea how), but now I had to print 20 pages one page at a time. It will not print more than one page, even if I select to print 20. Next time I start the computer I don't know if the printer will print. Do you need to use the same USB port each time, Or are the USB to parallel adapters undependable?

Unfortunately, parallel to USB adapters can be undependable. Other than a new printer, I'm not sure what would provide you with a fix for this problem. You might try another adapter if you have one, but if that still doesn't work I would look into a printer that your computer could support.
