16:9 Input to maintain quality?

I have a Panasonic PV-GS500 camcorder and have videotaped home movies in the 16:9 option. When the tape is connected to a 16:9 HDTV, widescreen presentation is automatic. I sent the videotape to iMovie HD6 (NTSC format) to make a DVD but finished up with black bars top and bottom, i.e. letterbox format. Changing the TV settings I can get the widescreen presentation but at significantly lower quality.
Is there a way it import the tape into iMovie 6 in the true widescreen format thereby maintaining the original NTSC quality without iMovie requiring the feed to be an HD input?

I just got help with something similar in a post which is probably on this page still if you want to check that out. Set the frame rate to 25 fps in settings and try again. It worked for me.

  • How do I maintain quality when "importing an export"

Sounds like a weird question, but hear me out. I need to know if there is a specific way to maintain the quality level of a movie that I need to export, import into a new project and "re-export".
Reason being that apparently iMovie '09 is broken and produces all sorts of random audio mistakes when I export. So I need to export my project as a whole clip, import it to a new project, take out all the audio and put in the audio from scratch (having it completely detached from the clip).
I'll be exporting in 720 with the best possible quality because this is getting blown up onto projector screens.

Ive seen this before. I have no idea why its happening.
OK. Here is what I want you to do:
go to imovie: export quicktime...go to options....go to settings....go to compression type: Choose apple intermediate codec. Chose other in the compressor box. chose the right frame rate...if you are in the americas choose 29.97.
Go into the size...pick the right aspect ratio for your clips...you haven't said. Don't click anything else in that box.
Under sound settings: AAC, stereo, 48, quality best, target bit rate...i dunno know...i use 320, but 128 probably works also.
Save and it will export movie.....Watch the movie to see how it plays. If the it comes out OK. I POST BACK WITH NEXT STEPS-- because you don't have QT pro...if its ok....please tell me how big it is...

  • Finding Codes are not listed in input help - EWM Quality Inspection

    Hi All
    I have defined below objects
    Catalog
    Catalog filter
    Finding type
    Defect codes
Also mentioned catalog filter & finding type in inspection rule. However, when I create a finding in inspection document I am not able to see codes in input help. System is throwing error even if I enter manually.
Please help where I missed. Should I implement IF_QIE_CATALOG?
    Thanks

    Hi All
This is fixed. I have maintained "*" in catalog filter field while linking the catlog filter with catalog. When I maintained exact value of catalog filter value, it is working.
    Thanks

This condition type (like ZQTC) needs to indicate the user at the time of sales order processing.
Please help me for configure the same,

  • Reduce size, maintain quality

I made a 1 hour twenty minute movie, 720x480 which comes out to 17 Gb. But the DVD will only take 4.7 Gb. How can I reduce the file size but maintain the quality of the movie?

    You encode it.
DVDs are based on the total length of the video in minutes, not the size of video file.
Using the 90 minutes preset in Compressor, the movie should work just fine.
Might want to take a peek at the manual.

  • Maintaining quality throughout editing (import and export)

    Hi All,
This is going to be a loaded question because I'm pretty new to this and a complete tyro when it comes to understanding different video specifications. My goal is to ultimately put an HD video onto YouTube without compromising the quality of the video. So here goes:
I shot a video using a Canon Mark II, and from what I can see the video's dimensions are 1920 x 1080, Codes H.264, Linear PCM. I'm pretty sure it's at 29.97 FPS (not 30 FPS).
My first problem starts right away when I import the video into FCE (version 4.0.1). It appears that the canvas is set to a 4:3 ratio even though the video is at a 16:9 ratio. So right away the black space above and below the video appear troublesome to me (and gets worse during export). Are there settings I can change where FCE knows it's dealing with a 16:9 HD ratio video to maintain the proper dimensions and quality?
When I export, this is where I get lost in a world of options. In an attempt to maintain the quality of the video I go to File > Export > Using Quicktime Conversion. I make the format QuickTime Move, and hit the Options tab. I make the video settings to be:
    Compression: H.264
    Quality: High
    Frame reordering: yes
    Encoding mode: multi-pass
    Dimensions: 1920x1080 (1888x1062)
    Scale: Crop
The result is a video that maintain the 1920x1080 ratio, except there's a painfully thick black outline on the top and bottom (as in the canvas) occupying about 15% of the screen. Also, it looks like the video got stretched horizontally a bit (I look fat...which is fine with me because I'm skinny,...but still).
In summary, for the export video what can I do to preserve the 1920x1080 ratio, not stretch the video, and fill the screen entirely with the video? Also, how can I maintain the quality of the video overall? The original footages is 95.1 MB but exported is 13.7 MB.

    You need to start again.
Before you begin to capture video you need the correct Easy Setup, which in your case should be
AVCD - Apple Intermediate Codec 1920x1080i60 . . . . and make sure you create a new Project which will reflect these changed settings.
Your QT settings seem generally OK but from now on do not use "Crop" or do anything with "Scale".
When you talk about maintaining the quality you mention the original is 95MB.
Is that about a minute of video?
The fact that the final video is 13.7MB does not mean the quality will be reduced.
One of the reasons for converting with QT is to make smaller, more manageable files which play with virtually the same quality as a huge one.
It's like .mp3 tunes which are only a tenth the size of a CD but most people can't tell the difference.

  • Maintaining Quality after Logic!!

i have what seems to be a basic problem (im a newbie) ive been trying to solve this for weeks now cant get help on other forums!!
what i did was take an mp3 instrumental and recorded vocals on it (i set it to 24 bit recording).
what i want to do is maintain the quality i get in the logic program in either a wave or mp3 file but when i bounce the quality goes way down (bass seems to spike or be too much...again im a newb) also the vocal quality goes down....
im obvously doing something wrong..please help im dying for people to hear this song!

thats my problem, i thought that was the obvious answer but when i bounce to 24-bit wav its still bad quality, sounds exactly the same if i bounce to mp3, im doing something wrong...any ideas?
(when i say bad quality i mean the bass is now too loud and sounds bad, minor vocal decrease in quality)

  • Import, edit, and export QuickTime document: wise? how to maintain quality?

Can iMovie HD 6.0.3 be used to import a reasonably-high-quality QuickTime file (Apple Graphics compression), edit it, and export to Quicktime, all resulting in a QuickTime file with the same clarity as the original?
I have a quicktime file that captures a demonstration on my desktop. It was recorded with SnapZ Pro (with movie option) into this format: Apple Graphics, 889 x 500, 256, IMA 4:1, Mono, 22.050 kHz. (Note: I got 889x500 when I constrained SnapZ to a 16x9 format.)
I need to clip out sections, rerecord some of the audio, insert snippets of replacement video (re-recorded). I have Quicktime 7.1.3 Pro, but I had this idea it would be easier to do this editing with IMovie HD 6.0.3.
My problem is that everything I export has noticeably worse quality than the original source. I have tried all sorts of projects (DV, HDV, MPEG-4, ISight). I've tried exports at full quality, lower quality, various expert settings.
    For example:
    - Create a DV-Widescreen project.
    - Import the movie. What I see on the screen is slightly smaller (in both dimensions) than the QuickTime Player shows me, and quite noticeably blurrier.
    - Picking Expert export, I use Compression: Graphics, Depth: Color, Quality: Best, key frame rate 24, Dimensions 889x500, Scale: Letterbox.
    - The QuickTime file displays as the right size, with a tiny black border for letterboxing, and with crummy quality (text has shadows, making it worse than just blurry.) All this despite being 30MB from a 3.2MB original.
Quite likely, I'm using the wrong tool. I don't have a camcorder - I don't even have a TV - so I don't know any of the jargon. What would be the right tool for this task? Stick to Quicktime Pro?
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

How would Final Cut Express work for editing quicktime as above?
    same answer:
    FCE handles dv/NTSC/PAL only ...-
for sure, you can import "any format/res" ...- with loss of quality, if import doesn't fit standards...- and: FCE is the "more mightier" tool, means, you can easiely arrange two/many videos in one picture, arrange them, position them ...-
if you want to stay with your original settings, you have to use QTpro (less convenient) or FCP (less cheap) ...

  • Exporting Pdf's for the Web, maintaining quality and keeping file size down

    1) I don't have acrobat Pro yet.
I've been trying to export a small document 14 pages for email, and I can't get the file size down below 26 mgs even when I'm compromising images to an extremely poor quality. I have not had this problem with Cs3 previously. Not sure why the file size is so high. I don't want to have to down sample everything in other programs, would kind of defeat the purpose of proofing out the program in the first place. I'm wondering if the extra file size is related to metadata?

What preset are you using? How many images, and how large are they? how much vector art?
The first thing to do is to remove all unused swatches and styles from the document, then do a "save as" to remove the excess undo information, then try again.
And next time you should ask this type of question in the InDesign forum for your platform. This area is for discussing new features users would like to see. :)

  • Maintaining quality when exporting to MP4

I'm trying to export my video to MP4, but everything I've tried ends with a drastic loss of quality. Exporting to DV or Sorenson 3 look fine. But exporting to MP4 or H.264 are completely unusable. I've adjusted for higher data rates, more key frames and frame rates...I've selected best quality...I've set it for 640x480 and 320x240...I've tried Compression as well as Conversion and ended with the same results each time. I've also tried to export from Quicktime 7.0 instead of through FCPHD.
I've exported to MP4 with great results before and my software hasn't changed since the last time I exported a project.
    Any suggestions? Thank you.
    Emac 1.25GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Thank you....
I've tried a couple of different ways:
    A.
Select File -> Export -> Quicktime Conversion.
In the Save window, change the format to MPeg-4 and select Options.
In Export Settings, I've changed the File Format to MP4, Video Format to Mpeg-4 Improved and Image Size to 640 x 480 VGA. I've tried different figures for the Data Rate (256, 512, 768) and Frame Rate (29.97, 15, 10).
Last step was to select Save.
    B.
In the Save window, leave the format as QuickTime Movie and select Options.
In the Conversion Settings window, I selected MPeg-4 Video (A few other times I tried this using H.264).
I left the Frame Rate at Current but have also tried 29.97.
Key Frames I left at Every 24 frames.
I increased Quality to Best and Data Rate I've tried changing it to Automatic but have also left it on Restrict to 6400 kbits/sec.
The Optimized selection has been always set as Download.
After Selecting Okay, I've tried setting the size as Current, 640x480 and 320x240.
I've always deselected Prepare for Internet Streaming.
After that, I've selected okay and then Save.
Each time the quality of the video has been very bad. Since the source video comes from a DVD and it looks good when I export to DV or Sorenson 3, there has to be something I'm missing.

  • Re-rendering video clips as sound-only files(while maintaining quality)

I am dubbing parts of a short film by re-recording actors(on the same camera) talking in a quieter setting.
The dubbing mpeg clips are about 2 minutes long each(roughly 250-400MB each).
I want to re-render the mpeg clips with just the sound so I don't have to have these 400MB clips,
which I'm only using for the stereo audio.
Sound seems to be much more "lossless" than video, so a re-render shouldn't alter the sound that discernably.
Can anyone recommend settings and/or file types, like wav or whatever, that will preserve as much quality
of the sound as possibly but eliminate the video so I'll have much smaller files to import.

As Harm states, just set up a new Sequence, or even Project, and then Import these AV files. Cut as might be required (or use the WAB to limit to just what you need), and then Export as WAV (Uncompressed) Audio-only. Import those resultant WAV files into your Project and drag them to the appropriate place on the appropriate Audio Track. Personally, I'd leave the original Audio around (just in case it's needed, for sync, or other), and just Mute its Audio Track. If that was from a muxed AV file, it could be useful as a reference. When all is done, you can either leave it Muted, or THEN Delete it.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Maintaining Quality HD with Reasonable File Size

I've just completed a 1/2 hour HD film (1440x1080) and I have been trying to get it to a file size that's under 2gigs. I am finding that the compressor settings either make the file size too low (degrading the picture quality), or too high (9+gigs!). Tried the h.264 LAN preset but the quality was not good enough. I want to find that sweet spot hopefully in mkv or mp4 format. Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    ~shiva

Well, it's hard to predict what someone else will want. Your "sweet spot" is different from someone else's.
You said you wanted it under 2GB. The H.264 for LAN preset aims for 632MB per hour. Did you try increasing the bitrate? And did you make sure it was set for your full resolution, and was not scaling it down?

  • Maintaining quality of screen captured material

I'm just starting what will be quite a large video editing project. This film will include a lot of screen captured material from online environments such as Second Life as well as video from the "real world".
I'm trying to work out the best way forward for editing the material and getting the results I want.
This particular question relates to getting screen captured text to look good in the final output from Final Cut Express 4. Just to reiterate that this is captured text I'm writing about not text that has been generated in the editor.
I use Telestream's Screenflow to do the actual screen capturing and in Screenflow the captured text looks very good with sharp edges. Of course I can edit to a certain extent in Screenflow, then output from Screenflow to a file using H.265 codec and that output file will have the captured text in a good clear form. That output file is in a small manageable file size, so there is a fair amount of compression.
However, when I use Final Cut Express to edit the captured video I have a problem. To describe the process, I export the video from Screenflow with Animation codec so that there is no loss in quality with the export. Then I import that into Final Cut Express. Of course that video needs to be rendered in Final Cut Express but in the rendered video the quality of the captured text is very poor. That is the problem. I am hoping there is some way to edit this captured video without causing the captured text to go bad. Screenflow will do this but I can't work out how to get Final Cut Express to do this.
Thank you for any assistance you can give.

    Hi Ian
Thank you for your posting but this is not the issue. The output from Screenflow is usually around 700 px in width. Before outputing from Screenflow I frame the part of the screen I wish to put into Final Cut Express.
The Lossless (Animation codec) output from Screenflow looks absolutely fine.
Even if I output from Screenflow to H.264 it looks absolutely fine.
The problem is that after I import this to Final Cut Express, then render that, the result is that the captured text chat becomes very bad.

  • How to maintain quality when converting back to imovieHD

Imovie08 has just sucessfully pushed me into my first forum EVER !
PLEASE can anyone tell me how to export back to the old version without loosing quality ? Drag & drop keeps bouncing back, import shows an error... "can't parse it: 43", & quicktime best quality H264 & mpeg4 are crap quality.
Have been working on this doco most of the year, decided (fooloishly) to load everything onto the new wizz bang 08, all footage is there, not a skerick on the old version. I need broadcast quality.
Where is William Tell when one needs him ?? Apple really should be shot for mangling such a great program !!

HA! same as the reviews - exactly why I haven't bought the new 08 -
Perhaps try and drag the 08 file over the 06 application icon??
