What is the difference between a 16 bit program and a 32 bit program?

It basically refers to the address space of a computer. To address a memory location the processor loads an address into a register. If the width of this register is 16 bit the computer is often called 16 bit, and the programs written for it 16 bit programs. This is the BASIC explanation. There are lots of modifications, for example the JVM. It can be seen as a software computer with a 32 bit address space. So Java programs are always 32 bit regardless of what computer they run.
Most computers today are 32 bits, but the general tendency is towards wider address spaces so 64 bit's in the pipeline.

I hope you can help me. I purchased adobe captivate 8 on line and when I click on the email link to download, it comes up with 7 programs, some are 64 bit and some are not, my computer is 32 bit. I am not sure which of these 7 to download? All or just the 4 non 64 bit?
I tracked down the problem with the download and installation, my windows 7 was missing a file and after reinstalling windows everything worked out. The first 32 bit program in their list was used. I hope this can help others.

A silly question but need some more explanation...Can anybody elaborate what this option means and in what conditions this can be used? Does this has to checked all the time?

I have CC and everytime i do a update or install a program i get a 32 bit and 64 bit version which is using up all my space on my harddrive. i have 2 versions of everything

If you are on windows computer, navigate to Control panel > Programs and features.
Then Locate the Adobe products and right click on it, then choose uninstall.
In the uninstaller window you may uncheck 64 bit and uninstall only 32 bit, may also do wise versa. -
Install sqldeveloper on windows 7 64 Bit and Oracle 11.2

I installed Oracle 11.2 including sqldeveloper. But I cannot find the correct folder to start sqldeveloper.
Where can I find this path?
When I include a path with java.exe I get the error "Unable to find a Java Virtual Machine. To point to a locacion of a Java Virtual Machine, pleaser refer to the Oracle9i Jdeveloper Install guide (jdev\install.html)" Where can I find this?

SiegwinI am on Windows 7 64 bit. I see that installing Oracle 11.2 database installs SQL Developer also but that doesn't work. I get the .bat file not found crap. What I then did was do a seperate install of SQL Developer for 64 bit, but that does NOT install the jdk.
I then did the java install from:

I selected: jdk-6u25-windows-x64.exe
I then point to the java.exe where this install loaded it (c:\program files\Java\jdk1.6.0_25\bin when I start up sql developer and it still gives the same error. I delete the SetJavaHome value in the sqldeveloper.conf file and try again over and over but it still gives the same error.
So, I have windows 7 - 64 bit operating system. I have Oracle 11.2 database installed. I have a seperate installation of SQL Developer 64 bit and I have the java jdk for 64 bit installed.
Nothing is working. Can anyone please steer me in the correct direction? Should I delete the second install of SQL Developer 64 bit and to an install of SQL Developer 32 bit?

CC, CC 64 Bit, and CC 2014? WTF?
It's bad enough Adobe can't figure out how to make the same features in one program work the same in a different program. To top it off, instead of improving what are now "apps" and integrating we now have more new programs to do the same thing (e.g. not just one for website creation, not just one for photos, not just one for illustrations, not just one for animation, etc...) and to top it off again they get rid of important programs like Soundbooth, and stop upgrading ones we need like Encore. I am beginning to think the CC is for Creative Chaos not Creative Cloud....
So, I uninstalled my CS5 master suite finally and moved presumably up to CC. But, now do I not only have more than one program to do the same thing more now I also have 3 of each! Wow! That's STUPID. Sorry, I hate using that word, but what in the hell?
Why is it when I go to my programs I have a CC version, a CC 64 bit, and now new to the Creative Chaos we have CC 2014 versions!!!! What? Really? Someone, please help me maintain my sanity. Before I realized it I was using Premiere CC then I inadvertantly started using CC 2014. Then I was like "something is missing, oh, wait, what? there's more than one version of premiere in CC???" Adobe, please clean up all your software, boil it down to just the ones we need, we don't need more than one program to do THE SAME THING. and once you boil it down, don't give us three versions of it, ask "do you want the 64 bit version or the 32" and we'll be happy to download precisely what we need. Or better yet, figure out a way to make it work with one program. And, of course while you're at it combine the CC and CC XXXX version of each, WTF???32bit programs are installed for those people who use plugins that have not been updated to 64bit

Vista 64-bit and Treo 600 Hotsync solution that works!
I too searched many, many forums and sites for a solution to this problem. And I have found it.
I have an HP dv9260 laptop with Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit and Office Pro 2007, which I bought in June this year. And I have been unable to sync my Treo 600 to it - until now. (I had even resorted to syncing to my older Toshiba Tablet PC (WinXP Pro, Office Pro 2003) via standard USB sync cable, connecting the Tablet to the new HP with a Belkin Easy Transfer cable, exporting my updated Contacts, Calendar, and InfoSafe records to .vcf, .ics, and .txt files, then transferring between the HP and Tablet, and then importing them into the appropriate app - Whew! man what a pain.
Now I have found a far more elegant and simple method. I found an Infrared USB 2.0 adaptor (dongle) at the Chunwai_1996 store on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-USB-2-0-IRDA-ADAPER-4Mbps-SUPPORT-VISTA_W0QQitemZ110164766509QQcmdZViewItem) for $8.33 USD + $5.67 USD S&H (total $14.00 even) (I believe that the price is now $12.49 USD + $5.67 S&H.) , which said it supported and supplied drivers for 64-bit Vista. It took a little over two weeks to receive the device from Hong Kong (received yesterday, 08-31-2007).
I checked the mini CD that shipped with it but found no Vista drivers. So I just plugged it into a USB port on the laptop. Vista immediately recognized the dongle and installed generic Vista 64-bit drivers from Microsoft. I tested the unit by placing the Treo near it. The unit recognized the Treo as a legitimate device! Next, I followed the directions I found in another thread that had been successful with USB 2.0, Vista 32-bit drivers, and the Treo 600, with one slight modification. Palm Treo 600 with Vista and Office 2007
I've had a lot of people ask about how I got my Treo 600 phone to sync with Outlook 2007 in Vista so I thought I'd write up the procedure. Hopefully Palm will have new Vista compatible software soon but in the meantime here's how I got it working on two computers so far. First you have to use Vista x86. I couldn't get it to work with Vista x64. If you've already tried to get it working then you have to clean up all the leftover stuff before continuing.
1. Uninstall Palm Desktop
2. Insert the CD that came with the Treo but don't let it autorun.
3. Navigate to the correct language folder on the Treo CD and right click on setup.exe
4. Set the compatibilty for XP SP2 and Run as administrator.
5. Run setup.exe
6. During the install the initial sync may fail. Just tell the installation to continue.
7. If you want to sync with Outlook make sure you pick this option during the install
8. Once it's finished close the Hotsync System Tray application.
9. In Windows Explorer go to the Palmone folder in Program Files.
10. Right click hotsync.exe and set it to run in administrator mode with XP SP2 compatibility.
11. Do the the same for palm.exe.
12. Start the Palm Desktop and change the Hotsync settings to manual start.
-and- 12a. ******* Check the Infrared option to make it active and available *******
13. Exit Palm Desktop and reboot.
You should now be able to sync the Treo 600 with Outlook 2007 or Palm Desktop. You will have to manually start the Hotsync application and deal with a uac prompt because it is set to run in administrator mode. The sync only works when Outlook is not running. You also have to sync twice. The first time you will get errors about the default folders for Outlook. Ignore the errors and press the sync button again. If it still doesn't work reboot and try it again. Good luck. Let me know if you find an easier procedure.

After rebooting the laptop, I performed the following additional steps:
A. Manually started the Hotsync app (you can put it in the Startup folder to auto load at Startup).
B. Set the Custom options to "Desktop overrides Handheld" for Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, and Notes - this may help avoid duplicates from the first Hotsync. Also, this is just a temporary override from the default setting "Synchronize the files" for each selection.
C. Selected Hotsync on the Treo and enabled the Infrared option.
D. Pressed the Hotsync 'button' on the Treo and placed it pointing at the Infrared dongle.
The Hotsync ran to completion without errors! Though it did take a good deal longer since it only runs at 115.2 kbps vs. the 480 Mbps of USB 2.0, I am happy.
Hope this helps others with Vista 64-bit systems and Palm OS handhelds.

The hp laptop running windows 7 seems to me to be running very strange and many programs have appeared that I did not download as if someone else is actually using it as a server. I am constantly changing passwords, updating plug-ins, software, using a wired ethernet linksys router wrt54g for my lan and still have problems with settings getting changed, programs not working , developer programs appearing, having to reboot, ad infinitum and now I am looking at my Firefox Plug-Ins and see RealJukebox NS, RealNetworks RealPlayer Chrome Background Extension, RealPlayer G2 LiveConnect-Enabled, RealPlayer Browser Record, and RealPlayer HTML5VideoShim not to mention the non-RealPlayer Plug-Ins. My question is do all of these exist and why would I have them when I did not install them. Also, would I need them for Windows 7 64 bit. Any information provided will be most appreciated. I'm about to quit and look for another hobby.

Have you tried ping ip address of printer? and check if there exists any data lost in network connection. If your network connection is crowded, it can cause delay for printer.
Also, please attempt to disable all security software temporarily, such as antivirus, firewalls,etc and
clear all printer cache.
Locate to task manager, check the state of spoolsv.exe, including cpu and memory. If it has high cpu or memory usage, it may be caused by malware. Thus, you'd better to make a full scan with the latest anti-virus.

Both are referencing cooltype.dll. I ran Font Doctor on all system and non-system fonts and found no errors. Booted without Extensis Suitcase loading. Nothing works. All 32 bit programs work fine. Any clues would be appreciated.It does not necessarily mean a "corrupt" font, but can be a font that PrPro, and PS, cannot handle.
Though I have read that changes have been made, Open Office's DejaVu font would crash PrPro's Titler - every time. There are quite a few others. Font Dr, and similar utilities, will not see the font(s) as corrupt, but they are so poorly designed, that PrPro and PS cannot deal with them.
Though it can be a long, drawn out process, one can often zero in on the problem font(s), with a little work. This is accomplished by first defining the "System Fonts," and not touching them. Then, uninstall half of the remaining fonts, and testing PrPro and PS. If they launch fine, you know that somewhere in that list of fonts, the problem exists. If there is still a failure to launch, chances are good that the problem font(s) reside in that half, that are still installed. Note: because the problem still exists, does not guarantee that there are NOT problem fonts in that uninstalled group, so keep that in mind.
Repeat the proces, by uninstalling half of the remaining fonts and testing.
If necessary, repeat by removing half of the now remaining fonts and testing.
When you get to a point, where you are no longer getting problems, reinstall fonts, in small groups, testing in between. The smaller the groups, the easier it will be to pinpoint the problem font(s).
Keep notes on which fonts you are uninstalling and reinstalling, until you narrow it down to the problem font(s).
I would start by uninstalling any "free fonts," and then commercial, 3rd party fonts. A lot of free fonts are just poorly designed, and can cause issues, though they might work fine in some other programs.
I use a font manager, so that I only have ~ 350 fonts installed at one time, and then dynamically install fonts, as needed for Projects. That keeps my machine clean, and if, upon installation, I get a crash/hang, I know that at least one font in that Set is causing it. This helps, as my workstation has ~ 19,000 fonts on it, and some are free fonts, and many are from 3rd parties. Some are also very, very old.

PS - one common cause for hangs on loading PrPro can be from VST's, used in Audio-editing. If you also have a lot of VST's, you could have two issues with two separate programs, i..e. PS hanging on fonts, and PrPro hanging on VST's. The results would be the same, but the causes could be different. That leads to even more work. For PrPro, also see this ARTICLE. If you get PS launching, but PrPro is still not functioning, drop by the PrPro Forum, and someone can help you there. -

thank youClose, but now quite. You need to specify to the VISA Read how many bytes to read, not how many bits. Thus, the input would be 2, not 16. It's also not clear why you're trying to use the "String to Byte Array". The Type Cast will give you a number based on what data type you wired. You're basically telling it how to interpret the string. In this case we're telling it to interpret the string a 16-bit value, so we'll get a 16-bit integer. I know you said you wanted a 10-bit, but you can't have that. You'll get a 16-bit with 6 bits set to zero. Note: I did not completely understand what you said so we may need to change this slightly, but we want to get the communication and reading collection working first.
Also, since you seem to be setting this in a loop you probably want to monitor this or to collect the data. For that you need a shift register. See attached for a modified version of your attempt. You need to set the datatype to I16 or U16 based on whether the value you get from the PIC is signed or unsigned.

Windows 7 64-bit and Quicktime - stamp sized image of player
I have Windows 7 64-bit and downloaded the latest iTunes/Quicktime program. iTunes works fine. When I open Quicktime, the logo appears in the tray, indicating it is open. However, nothing opens up on the screen. When my mouse hovers above the "Q" logo in the tray, a stamp sized screen opens above the logo and disappears after about 5 seconds. I uninstalled and reinstalled Quicktime and get the same response. Ideas what is wrong?
A QuickTime display preference may have blown up for you.
If that's what is afoot, rebuilding the QuickTime preferences can help, although it can be a bit of a trial to track them down on the 64-bit systems.
Close any of the QuickTime Player buttons that are currently in your taskbar.
Now we need to change some view settings on the PC. (The preferences are kept in hidden folders.)
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected.
Click OK.
Next we'll navigate to your AppData folder.
In Computer, open Local Disk C:\ or whichever drive your user documents are stored on.
Open the "Users" folder.
Open the folder with the name of the Windows User account in which the QuickTime Player isn't displaying properly.
Open the "AppData" folder.
Now the hunt for the QuickTime preferences begins.
Open the "Roaming" folder.
Open the "Apple Computer" folder.
Do you see a "QuickTime" folder in there? If so, drag that out onto the Desktop. Now try launching the QuickTime Player.
If there was no QuickTime folder in \Roaming\Apple Computer\, or if the QuickTime Player still isn't displaying properly
Quit any QuickTime player buttons in the Taskbar.
Go back into the "AppData" folder.
Open the "Local" folder.
Open the "Apple Computer" folder.
Do you see a "QuickTime" folder in there? If so, drag that out onto the Desktop. Now try launching the QuickTime Player.
If there was no QuickTime folder in \Local\Apple Computer\, or if the QuickTime Player still isn't displaying properly
