1616m No Sound!

Hello all,
Seemingly randomly, the Windows source of sound stopped working on my computer. I've had my 1616m PCI set up the exact same way for months now, and I haven't even touched any other settings through the PatchMix DSP or through Windows. I go into the PatchMix DSP to check on the WAVE 1/2 strip (through which plays MP3s and other Windows sources of sound) only to find there is no activity it's peak meter, even though I have an MP3 playing through another Windows app. The Mic Line In A and B register sound just fine after I plug in my guitar through Guitar Rig, and I can even hear it through the ASIO strips and out my speakers. So the sound works through ASIO drivers from audio app's like Cubase and Guitar Rig. I installed the latest firmware and PatchMix DSP app (4.2 and 2.1 of Apr 29, 2008, respectfully), but this didn't seem to help. I restored the defaults, double checked the sample rate: 44.1 kHz, and made sure the Windows sound drivers are set to EMU's E-DSP-- all to no avail. The even stranger thing is that I can ONLY get MIDI to play through the WAVE1/2 strip; there is activity in its peak meter, and I can hear it just fine. But when I go to open an MP3 (using Winamp), there is no activity in its (WAVE1/2) peak meter, despite Winamp's integrated peak meter showing the playing file's activity.
If someone could help me out, that would be GREAT. I'm so frustrated, and EM-U's tech support SUCKS. They went from phenomenal live phone support to a half-assed, e-mail only coorespondence that takes for days just to get a reply, IF you even get a reply. Thanks in advance,
Adam

connections are ok. you should check your software mixer routing.

  • Emu 1616m pcmcia cardbus driver installation errors: this device is not config correctly (code1)

Hi, can anyone help, I use a 1616m pcmcia card bus in my dell inspiron laptop, its been working fine no errors for the last year, then suddenly today, I go to use it and no sound, and my DSP reds out, and it states my hardware or drivers my need re-installing. So I have un-installed all software, drivers etc, Then when I insert the pcmcia card bus in, it reconizes it, found new hardware, I tell it to use the driver disc. This is ok, its installing the software, then I get the blue screen of death, crash!. Iv tried it countless times, clearing the registy etc, but if I dont get the blue screen I get an error that my hardware may not work properly blah blah and this error: e-mu e-dsp audio processor (wdm) this device is not configured correctly (code 1).
Do I have to factory reset my laptop and reload everything, days of fun.
Has my well looked after pcmcia card bus broken, just after the year is up!! the irony
Are there better pcmcia controller drivers than: ricoh r5c475(ii) and would they help this issue
does anyone have any ideas please!!

Upon latest reboot, I also received this error message:  "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005).  Click OK to terminate the application."
Then I got the iTunesHelper not installed correctly error again.
Then the "Windows can't check for updates" error message.
Then "Apple Push has stopped working."  Then a quick DEP error message that disappeared but said something about Apple Push being closed.
I'm also getting denials of service logged by McAffee.  Not sure if I'm getting a virus/attack or not.
Not sure if it's a problem with my old desktop machine, my Windows Vista updates, or iTunes, but I'm very frustrated and out of ideas to try.
    Thank you for your help!

  • Using the E-Mu 1616M and X-fi Platinum simutaneously in Windows & 64-bit.

I want to run my 1616m out to my Yamaha HS-50's (for recording, mixing and mastering) and my-X-fi Platinum out to my Logitech X-530's for music enjoyment via the 24-bit crystalizer and other features.
Is there a way to run both cards in a Windows 7 64-bit installation simultaneously? I'm using Vista Audio Changer now to switch between sound sources. And can I get Vienna Sound Font Studio and Bank Manager and other X-fi related software (like Console Launcher) to work for the Platinum on Windows 7 64-bit? If not does the E-mu 1616m have similar features that I'm overlooking?
I'm hesitant to throw away the x-fi and just use the e-mu because I love the sound of the x-fi and crystalizer on my x-530's and have heard that the 1616m and hs-50's would give me a very accurate sound ( which is great for production) but also one that might not be colored for musical enjoyment the way I like.
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

    Hi,
Sorry but Creative doesn't recommend having two or more sound cards running in a single system. Doing so may lead to hardware/software conflicts. Customer Support won't be able to help you much because this type of setup isn't supported.

  • Acquiring 24-bit sound with a third-party sound card... truncation issues.

I am having a very strange problem when using LabVIEW to acquire audio
data via the Windows API from a Creative Professional E-MU 1616m sound
card.  The goal is to acquire sound in 24-bit resolution.
When capturing sound in 16-bit mode (as set in the LabVIEW software),
the E-MU 1616m behaves as expected, with a 105dB SNR and approximately
-130dB noise floor, after dithering.  However, when switching to
24-bit capture mode, a very severe truncation occurs.  This sends
the harmonic distortion and noise through the roof.  After
investigating fairly deeply in our LabVIEW code, I am wondering what
    might be the problem.
I have compiled a number of screenshots which showcase the problem in more detail.
Here is a background of the experiment:
For these tests, both the analog and digital audio was generated by an
Audio Precision System Two system, and was passed directly into the
respective line-level or digital audio inputs.  Digital audio was
tested using both coax and optical cable.  In the sound card
control software, the audio was sent directly from the input channel
into the WAVE IN L/R (via the Windows API, I assume).  The
sampling rate for the profile was 96kHz.
The sampling rate in all LabVIEW functions was set to 96kHz.  The sample rate set in the AP Digital generator was 96kHz.
    ANALOG 20dBu 96kHz 16bit.jpg
In this test, everything looks fine.  The audio input is at
Full-scale for the E-mu's ADCs.  It is exhibiting expected 16-bit
    performance (with dithering).
    ANALOG 20dBu 96kHz 24bit.jpg
Now we instruct the driver to capture sound in 24 bits.  Notice
that the noise floor and THD+N go up considerably.  Effects of
truncation become visible on the time-domain display.
    ANALOG -20dBu 96kHz 16bit.jpg
Now we drop the input level to -20dBu.   The performance
starts to look a little messy but is still acceptable.  Note,
however, the high peaks on the odd harmonics.
    ANALOG -20dBu 96kHz 24bit.jpg
Now we try to capture at 24 bits.  The effects of truncation are extreme at this low signal level.
    ANALOG -60dBu 96kHz 16bit.jpg
Now we are at extremely low signal levels.  Individual
quantization levels can be seen on the signal.  Dither is also
    present.  Performance is still good.
    ANALOG -60dBu 96kHz 24bit.jpg
However, when increasing the resolution to 24 (which should increase
the number of quantization levels), our signal is reduced to a square
    wave.  Obviously something is wrong.
    DIGITAL 0dB 16bit 96kHz 16bit.jpg
Now on to the digital tests.  We start with full-scale.  We
used an AP outputting a properly dithered 16-bit signal over an optical
cable.  The soundcard is instructed to receive in 16 bit
    mode.  It looks good.
    DIGITAL 0dB 16bit 96kHz 24bit.jpg
Using the same input, we change to 24 bit receive mode.
    DIGITAL 0dB 24bit 96kHz 16bit.jpg
Now we set up the AP to output a properly dithered 24-bit signal at
full-scale.  The dips in the frequency domain show us that
    something is wrong.
    DIGITAL 0dB 24bit 96kHz 24bit.jpg
Receiving in 24-bit mode.  Same story as before.
    DIGITAL -90dB 16bit 96kHz 16bit.jpg
Now we decrease the amplitude to a low level.  Well-implemented dither is shown here clearly.
    DIGITAL -90dB 16bit 96kHz 24bit.jpg
However, receiving in 24-bit mode reduces the signal to a dithered square wave.
    DIGITAL -90dB 24bit 96kHz 16bit.jpg
Here is the low-level signal with the AP generating a 24-bit
signal.  Dither is applied, but vanishes in the e-mu 1616m.
It seems the dither level has been changed.  This is the cause of
    our dips from before.
    DIGITAL -90dB 24bit 96kHz 24bit.jpg
And finally, we transmit and receive in 24-bits.  Here are the results.
We have achieved similar results using several of your breakout boxes and soundcards.
Attached are all screenshots, as well as the main VI (AP Test.vi) and
the dependent vi's.  There are a number of SVT vi's in the
project, but they can be ignored since they are not related to the
    problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Brett,
I took a look at the code you attached, but it appears that you may have left out the subvi that actually acquires the sound. When you say Windows API, I assume that you are calling a DLL at some point. How are you configuring the inputs (or what function are you using)? It could be (and this is just a guess) that when you specify 24 bits, the DLL returns the data in a very specific format. If you don't interpret the bits that are returned correctly, LabVIEW may not know what to do with them, as LabVIEW does not have a native 24-bit datatype. If there is any documentation for these function calls, our answer might there...
Just some thoughts -- thanks for posting your solution!

  • EMU-1616m and Cubase LE Troubleshooting

Hello, I am sorry if this is the wrong part of the forum for this type of question. However, I just got a 1616m hooked up. The sounds and tones it produces are beautiful. As far as recording goes...I can record the mic level in Cubase LE fine. But, when I hook my guitar to the preamp input in the 1616m and try recording an audio track in Cubase LE, the level is peaked out consistently. Now, I assure you I have adjusted all mixer levels appropriately within Cubase LE, within PatchMix DSP, and the levels on the front of 1616m itself. I also adjusted the pickup volumes on my guitar. Is it the fact that line level is louder than mic level? Thanks for any suggestions...

-Does the sample rate of the MP3 match the patchmix or Cubase? That distortion might be a sample-clock problem, internal versus external?... I don't know anything else,,, sorry... Make note what ver. of Cubase (VST? from the e-mu software bundle?) you use.. I had similar problems back when I used my EMU 1860m and it was the Cubase software just being flawed. I also had to rethink how I channeled my ASIO or DirectSound drivers (Whatothers there are.) It was odd to see two sets of mixers instead of there being only one. The most straight forward thing to use might be the directsound or soundmapper drivers in Cubase.

  • Left/Right Panning issues with 1616m and Cubase 4

I've just installed the 1616m into my system and I'm having a serious issue with panning in Cubase. Everything I pan to the right is inaudible. If I pan hard left I get sound out of my left monitor as you'd expect. If I pan center, I hear sound out both the left and right monitor but at half the volume. If I pan right everything is completely inaudible. I have tried removing and installing the drivers. I've tried every combination of VST Connections I can think of and this problem persists. Does anyone have any suggestions? Notably this only happens in Cubase. Outside of Cubase all the audio works just fine. I have my monitors plugged into the Dock 1 outputs.

Ok I got this working but I'm not sure how. I wiped out the Patch DSP mixer strips, redid them all then redid all my VST Connections in Cubase and now it magically works. Looking at it I don't see any difference from how it was before, but its working now so I'm just going to leave it alone!

  • 1616m compatability?

I read on z sounds that the ricoh pcmcia controller chips don't work. I would like to purchase this product but that is my chipset r5c475II. This is a new dell inspiron 6000 2g 2m sys. Any advice??

I have a Dell 9300 and have the same PCMCIA controller I believe. However, after carefully checking out the net and various forum posts I never found anything confirming that there are any problems with them so I took the plunge and are now waiting for my 1616m to arrive. The problem reported was not that it wouldn't work, it was reported that the number of ins and outs could be lower with those PCMCIA controllers. But like I said, people are getting ins and outs simmultainously through the hardware and through ADAT at the same time so I belive it's worth the try.
Now it just needs to arrive. I am so sick of waiting!! Why is it taking so long!!
    Good luck buddy

  • Lock ups and sound looping!

I remember reading something here about people having trouble with their systems locking up and then getting a loud static noise then a sound loop when playing games.
I am getting this about 2-3 times a night now and it is driving me nuts, I do not have temp problems of any sort and I have all of the latest drivers for everything on my system.
      Any ideas?
    Specs in sig

Set your PCI/AGP Freq to 66.66/33.33MHz.
Increase your DDR Voltage to 2.7~2.8v.
Check if you have any background programs causing all high CPU load times while gaming.

  • My downloaded text sounds do not show up under the sounds tab in settings after installing 8.1.1. can someone help me please?

i downloaded a couple text tones and since installing 8.1.1, they will not show up under the sounds tab. in fact, they do not show up in my recent purchases on itunes, but when i go to buy them again, it says that i have already bought this tone. I just want to use the tones i paid for as the tones on my phone. not asking much.... thanks for the help. i hope someone can help me get the tones working. thank you.

This was happening to me too but only for some of my songs. I have a mac so I dunno about PCs, but for most of my ringtones I had to create an ACC version in itunes to make them short enough then turn that into a m4r and those all worked fine. But if the song was already short enough and I didn't create an ACC version and just turned the original into a m4r, then it wouldn't appear in my itunes.
so if you're on a mac:
    1. go to get info, options, pick when you want the song to start and end.
Has to be pretty short to work, 30 second or less is good
if it's already short enough that's fine
    2. right click and click 'create ACC version'
a copy with the length you put in will appear, drag that into a folder or whatever and just type in m4r where m4a would be
still make an ACC version even if it's the right length
    Hopefully this helps someone else.

It started yesterday when i was listening to itunes when all of a sudden the music stopped playing and i had to hold down the power button to shut it down and reboot, and then, when i logged back in, the error sound played, and then finder opened up, but the window was grayed out like i had another app selected, bu i didn't, so i tried to open up itunes and the icon started bouncing and then it stopped midbounce and i had to reboot again because finder wasnt responding. now when i log in, the error sound plays, and finder immediately stops working and then i have to reboot again because i cant click anything and i cant properly relaunch finder. please help

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Loading sound clips in my swing application

I have searched all the forums, din't find what i want.
I have many small sound files to be played in my application. Even on mouse Pressed, Drage etc etc....
Now I was looking for a better way of Loading the Sound files in memory as the application starts.....
If I use the Clip Interface of javax.sound and initilize them and open a stream, invoke the open() method, and store it in hashmap. So that when ever i need that file i will lookup for that clip and trigger the start() method which actually plays the sound. IS the approach the right approach, will not the Cip object keep the IO handle open, I have nearly 40 Clips to be loaded.
Can any one suggest me the better way of implementing this.
    TIA
    Zoha

As far as I know, there is no facility for detecting mouse scrolling wheel in JDK 1.3.
Check it in the later releases of JDK.

  • Help with sound to LCD TV when using HDMI

I would love any assistance with a problem I am having. I have a new mac mini with a 40" Proscan LCD. I am using a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter and am getting great video - 1080. My issue is that via Keynote I need to get sound to the LCD TV. It is coming through the mini speaker - what do I need to do to get the sound over to the TV? Any assistance would be appreciated!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
The user guide which came with your TV should cover the issue in the different connections available for your unit.
DVI is video only. HDMI is audio and video. If you are using an adapter to connect DVI to HDMI there is no audio because of this. So to connect a Mac mini with a DVI to HDMI adapter you will also need an audio cable to run the audio from the mini's audio outport to an audio inport on the TV. This is why I refer you to the user guide for your unit, because it should point out the correct port to use on the TV, as well as point out if you have options for using analog or digital audio. The mini's audio ports can do both.
