1st gen Apple TV not in devices list in iTunes

My 1st generation AppleTV is no longer showing in the devices list in iTunes on my Mac Pro.  I have read several pieces of advice and performed the following long list of actions but I am still stuck and unable to sync my Apple TV.  I hope someone has a new suggestion for me?
The AppleTV has had the computer removed from the connections setting.  It has been rebooted and left on the connect a new computer screen with the numerical password visible.
The AppleTV can be seen visible in the iTunes of my Macbook Air running 10.8.3 and the iTunes version is 11.0.2.  I have not 'clicked to setup' since my main library is on my Mac Pro that used to sync.  I can ping appletv.local from my macbook air succesfully which returns an IP address.
My MacPro is running OSX 10.7.5 and iTunes 11.0.2 and one day the device failed to show in the devices menu.  I cannot ping appletv.local from my Mac Pro but I can ping the IP address returned from the ping on my Macbook Air.
At first I removed the device from iTunes preferences and removed the computer from the AppleTV which allowed me to see the AppleTV on my Macbook Air but not my Mac Pro.
Secondly I used AppZapper to uninstall iTunes and reinstalled from a fresh download as r4ecommended here -> http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-10329494-263.html  I also used Pacifist to reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service after removing the service as per the instructions here -> http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747  My iTunes library is back as it was but my other devices were originally missing until I connected them via USB to re-enable the wifi sync.
I can see my shared libraries between my MacPro and my Macbook Air.  I can also use Airdrop between them and can connect between them as usual.  I have disabled the firewall on my Mac Pro just in case and I have no VPN or antivirus software that blocks any communication.
My network setup is a little unusual since I have my ISP router as the DHCP assigner connected to an Airport Extreme base station that acts in bridge mode to distribute a wifi network across my home.  I then have a powerline adapter connected to the airport base station to send network around my home to places where wifi is weak.  My macbook air connects to the wifi.  My MacPro connects via a switch in my office to a 2nd powerline adapter.  My AppleTV connects via a 3rd powerline adapter and can see the internet fine (it plays youtube videos for example).  None of the network devices have any ports blocked on them and since the Macbook Air connects to the AppleTV as expected but the MacPro does not then I do not think it is network related.
So I can only assume there is something wrong with my MacPro being unable to recognise my AppleTV as an AppleTV rather than just another device on my network.  Anyone else got any ideas of what to try on my MacPro to get it to recognise the AppleTV?

I am still experiencing this issue - can anyone help?
Since writing the above replies I have also tried to downgrade iTunes to 10.7 via these instructions -> http://arstechnica.com/apple/2013/03/how-to-downgrade-from-itunes-11-to-version- 10-7-on-your-mac/ but that did not work.  iTunes worked fine but the AppleTV was still not in my devices list on my Mac Pro

    Apple TV (1st Gen) no longer seen in device list in iTunes 10.4. I can see it in the multiple speaker list and I can connect to it that way,  it is not seen as a device in order for me to sync content. Any ideas?
    I've tried:
    1.) rebooting my network
    2.) rebooing my AppleTV
    3.) Running diagnostics on my AppleTV (everything is working 'fine.')
    4.) Rebooting iTunes
    5.) Rebooing my computer
    6.) .....
    Please help.

    Check the firewall allows access for iTunes, try disabling the firewall if necessary. Try restarting the router.
    Also try de/re connecting your iTunes library from your Apple TV; disconnect from the Apple TV (Settings/Computers/Your_Library) and reconnect again (Settings/Computers/Connect_to_iTunes) - You will need to re-sync previously synced content.

  • 1st gen apple tv not showing all movies synced from iTunes.

    I have 30 movies in iTunes library that I synced to my 1st gen Apple TV.  I have viewed several of these movies in the past on the Apple TV but some are not coming up in the listings anymore.  I go back to iTunes and still see that they are still stored/synced to the Apple TV.  Why can't I see them listed anymore? (Can't see them under 'Watched' or 'Unwatched')

    Hi clur,

  • 1st Gen Apple TV not Syncing to iTunes

    Hi I have a 1st generation Apple Tv and for some reason I cannot see it on iTunes thus cannot sync it.  I have unplugged it and reset it a couple of times but still nothing cming up in iTunes.  The good news is that whats on the Apple TV is working.  Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance for any help and advice that can be provided.
    Jon

    I'm having the same problem.  Waiting for Josh from Apple Support to call me back to help get icon back.  I spoke with him about 2 weeks ago and we tried several things that didn't work.  I didn't have time then to go through a process of getting it back so he gave me his name and phone number to make an appointment to fix this problem.  Might have happened with the last update of iTunes.

  • Apple TV 1st or second generation not in devices list

    After upgrading to Yosemite and reading a lot  about how  to RE connect my Apple TV to my home network even though I kept getting false message of being successful.
    Finally I took an Airport Express I use on a speaker system and plugged it in the Apple TV  I was able to get a complete address for the connection.
    By mistake I wiped off the synced movies and photos and what ever I had working just fine except ATV not showing in my I tunes to further sync.
    I opened the port and tried a dozen other things and finally Airplay played my music on the TV speakers,  but no data on my ATV.
    This is a fine piece of expensive storage and up until now it has been a treasure in my household.
    To make a long story shorter  I took the ATV and plugged it in the power  and connected it to my I MAC with a DSL cable.  It is Syncing.
    At least it will get my data  onto this  HAS BEEN Great unit.
    I spent so much time  just trying to enter the pairing number the ATV gave to enter on the Device section.  Of course this is what needs to be fixed
    by Apple.   For heavens sake!  ADD BACK THE ATV TO THE DEVICE SECTION so it can be directed to SYNC!!!!!!!!!
    This is not yahoo or google or microsoft TV  IT's  APPLE  TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    I am connecting to the Internet through an AT&T modem and a Time Capsule.  Even the AT&T unit recognized my ATV to give it permission
    to the port settings.  Why on earth would my Fabulous I MAC play dumb and not recognize it.
    Please FIX the  problem.
    Thank you,
    Elisabeth

    This is the message you gave me    DO YOU REALLY CARE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM????????????

    Hi Winston,
    Working with 1st Generation ATV A1218 Model.  I MACUpgraded from Snow Leopard to Yosemite 10.10.1.
    Before the update automatic Sync was seamlessly working. I had I photos, Music and Movies on the ATV.  I wish I did not clear all data inadvertently
    in my un successful attempts to wirelessly re connect to my home network. I figured things would find their bearings as all the Apple equipment always has in my past experience. Apple care has graciously helped out when I got stuck.  Even in this case an apple Rep. suggested to plug in the  Airport Express to get the proper connection address.  I happily told him,  I can figure out the rest.  Well;  maybe not so fast.
    I am not sure where I stand on what is on my ATV after the direct DSL method connection to SYNC from my I MAC  since we have not turned on ATV since that event.  We listen to all the News Interviews Sunday mornings.
    I did try a test on the DSL cable Music sync by creating a play list of smooth jazz in order of artists.  After the sync finished on the DSL cable connect,
    I decided to change the Jazz  to the title of the songs  by creating a new play list and deleting the one with artist order. I asked the RE sync and the darn thing pretended doing it  but the information stayed the old artist order.
    As you can see this is a work in progress and will keep you posted on the progress.  Thank you for your response.  Happy New Year.
    Elisabeth
    The bottom line is,  I am able to play music from my computer to ATV  probably through AirTunes  which is just fine to three different speakers at the same time,  but I liked to see all my lovely pictures  while music played and I really don't want all the movies I have purchased clogging up my IMAC and while my future purchases will very likely be housed on ATV  I kind of like the way it worked seamlessly before.
    At this point  I just wonder  if not being able to enter a PAIRING NUMBER on my IMAc is really the stumbling block of the SYNC deficiency.
    Hope this is not too confusing.

  • 1st Gen Apple TV not syncing HD content

    Howdy!
    Okay, well, I've got a 1st generation aTV and just bought some 2012-13 HD tv episodes. Right off, I could not sync the episodes to my aTV. ITunes lists the episodes are part of the synced content, however they do not sync, they neither show up on the aTV nor does iTunes show them transferring.
    My approach:
    ..I reset the aTV;
    ..I disconnected the connected account from its host computer (Mac Pro)
    ..I de-authorized the aTV from iTunes
    ..I looked for updates (none available)
    ..Pre-2013 HDCP tv shows play with no problems.
    After some fiddling and trying everything twice, I wondered if the episodes were corrupted. I played them on my computer, and discovered they worked on one of the 3 displays but HDCP warnings came up when I attempted to play them on either of the other two.
    Is this a problem I have to solve by upgrading to a newer aTV? Could I fix it by disconnecting the non-HDCP compliant display(s)?
    Any idea what's going on here?
    Thanks, kind regards.

    first off if they are from itunes and they are HD 1080p the first gen can not play them. It may say it is syncing but you can not play them. Does it say anything about being able to play when you try or just nothing shows up to even try? The new aTV should solve it. As for the display problem it could be they are old but that just does not sound right. I have a HP monitor from say 2003 and it can play fine. The HDCP should come frome your vidio card but still could be the monitor. Good luck

  • Apple TV not in Device List

    Help!!! I have done everything a zillion times. Somebody must know something!!
    Sandra

    Finally I found the solution. The problem was the firewall (netbarrier x4) stopped the connection Apple TV did a port scan. Open Netbarrier, go into the anti-vandal, and remove Apple TV's IP from the Stop List. It should work perfectly now (if necessary restart iTunes)
    To prevent this from happening again you can do 2 things:
    1. Put your Apple TV IP address into the "Trusted Group"
    2. If your router allows (mine - D Link - does) reserve the current Apple TV IP address to it. So you can make sure it will never change its IP address; alternatively you can set up your Apple TV with a fixed IP address.

    Try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds, or resetting it using the reset option under general. You should also try restarting your router and your computer.

  • My 1st gen iPad is not recognized by my PC, my iMac or my macbook.  it's charged, connected directly to the usb port, shows the connect to iTunes screen,  but is not in the device list on the pc or iTunes??  I have reset it repeatedly, and rebooted???

    I am conneting my Ipad to mutiple Pcs, (windows and Mac) and it is not being recognized in the device list on itunes or the computers.  the ipad is fully charged, I have reset it numerous times and it gives me the apple icon and then the "connect to itunes" message.... but dose nothing after that.  I had it all set up and gave it to my daughter who tried to sync it with her macbook when it did this.  We are using direct connections to the computers usb ports, the cables are new, ituens is newly updated on all pc's...
    any ideas what the problem is??

  • Apple TV won't connect to iTunes and does not show up in my devices list in iTunes.

    My older model Apple TV won't connect to iTunes and does not show up in my devices list in iTunes.  I have two Apple TVs in my house and I can't imagine that this is part of the problem but I mention it just in case.  My other Apple TV is brand new and it connects to iTunes just fine.  I've tried most of the "fixes" and one says to Force Sync but I can't since Apple TV isn't in my device list.  Another "Fix" said to Navigate the Apple TV to Settings --> Downloads --> Check for Downloads, but when I tried that there was no option for "Downloads" under the Settings Heading.  I'm at a loss.  Please help.  Could this be an issue with too many authorized devices?  We have three iPads, two iPhones, laptop, desktop, two Apple TVs, and an iPod and most of them are syncing the same music playlists and whatnot...  have I run out of rope?

    hi, just posting to everyone in general..its not you, or your apple tv, it is itunes.
    ok, ive had the exact same issues for weeks now, as with everyone i had done the lastest upgrade and no longer could see/sync my gen 1 appleTV.........so, i removed the upgrade and went back to the prev version, even though it was showing in my prefs under appleTV, it still wouldnt show in the side panel under devices....i gave up.
    This week i was determined to get it to work!  So i started from scratch, totally removed itunes and started back with version 9 and upgrade each version from there, i had no luck, ic clicked find appleTvs but it wouldnt....however i just d/l version 9.2.0.61 and BINGO!. No sooner has it opened and up popped the side panel devices list, showing my appleTV..all ready to be synced etc. I immediately panicked of course haha..and set it all up and its working perfectly.
    ...Only catch now is that this older version will not be compatiable with my iphone, which i do keep music on...seems we cant win. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr   this will be the same for all the latest apple products.
    Apple needs to allow more than one version of itunes per pc OR perhaps they could get their act together and include all of the millions of APPLETV GEN1  owners in there latest upgrading..after all, THEY made the product and THEY do sell the movies/tv shows, perhaps they could stop making all the upgrade all about the music only!......on which i might add why not incluse movies/tv shows in icloud! yet another upgrade that should be included in the APPLETV  GERNERATION 1!..yes we do  still exist!
    at the very least, im happy ive managed to get all my movies etc onto the apple tv, where ill keep them and from now on d/l directly onto my apple tv. I usually d/l to my laptop and then send them to the appletv but while trying to get all this sorted i did a test, i d/l a movie  using my appletv hoping it would somehow let itunes "find" it and getting it to show up in my device list, but it didnt work,  however it did sync/send the movie to itunes..  so at least i could save a back up copy.
    good luck trying, as i said this has been weeks and this is the only solution ive found so far....and going through these forums its obviouse its itunes thats the issue, NOT Our apple tvs.

  • Apple TV not showing up in device list in iTunes

    Apple TV stopped showing up in the devices list in iTunes when I tried to sync my movies, and iTunes froze in mid-sync. Since there is no "eject" button for Apple TV in iTunes, the only thing to do was to close iTunes. When I opened it up again...no more Apple TV under devices. Apple TV works as a stand-alone and I can purchase and view using controls in Apple TV, but I can't sync iTunes with Apple TV, so all my previous purchases are stuck in iTunes until I can sync again. I have tried all the work-arounds suggested by Apple. This is my second Apple TV. The first one did the same thing before the returns deadline kicked in. Hey Apple!! Wake up and fix this!!! If I can't sync with iTunes then I am not putting any money into movie rentals or purchases!! This is costing YOU $$$$$$$$!!

    I had this problem and tried most of the suggested solutions. I could ping the ATV, so I had not network problems. Finally, this is the suggestion that worked for me (Windows 7 user running iTunes 9.1.0.79):
    - power off the ATV
    - open iTunes on the computer;
    - ensure "Share my library on local network is enabled in iTunes (Edit--Preferences--Sharing);
    - power on the ATV;
    - go to "Add Shared iTunes Library" on the ATV (Setting-->Computer menu, second line of the menu) which puts up a new passcode on the screen;
    - DON'T proceed with inputting the passcode number to add the shared iTunes Library, but instead press "menu" button on ATV remote to exit the "Add Library" function and return to the ATV setting menu;
    - this step seems to wake up the ATV<-->iTunes connection and at this point the ATV device reappeared on iTunes!;
    - on the ATV (Setting--Computer menu) I was then able to connect to the nominated iTunes library (top line of the menu) and enter the passcode required by that screen.

  • 1st gen Apple TV - synced photos not visible

    I have my iTunes set to sync all my photos with my 1st gen Apple TV and this has worked flawlessly until today.
    Although the "settings" tab on iTunes shows all my photos are synced, on the Apple TV when I go to my Photos tab I get the error message that "there are no photos on your Apple TV  - to sync photos set up a connection with iTunes"
    I do have a connection with iTunes - all my other media is synced, and according to iTunes the photos should be there too.
    I'm at a loss as to what to do, and would be grateful for any advice.
    Thanks in advance

  • 2nd gen apple tv not seeing entire iphoto library

    Here's something weird - anyone know why I can't see my entire iPhoto library on my 2nd gen. Apple TV?
    I have my entire library shared in iPhoto
    I have home sharing turned on in iTunes and am signed in using my Apple ID on the apple TV
    I see my whole iTunes library and am able to stream movies etc to Apple TV
    What's weird is only certain (two) events show up in the Photos section under "Computers"  but when I select computers/photos it says "my iTunes."  ALSO, when I go to iTunes/devices on my computer, I don't see my 2nd gen Apple TV listed - only my 1st gen Apple TV...
    Any ideas out there, Apple Gurus???
    Thanks!!!

    You select the photos that are shared to your Apple TV from the advanced menu in iTunes.
    Apple TV 2 is not intended to show up under the devices list in iTunes.

  • How do I get a movie purchased on my 3rd gen Apple TV to play on my 1st gen Apple TV?

    I purchased and watched a move on my 3rd gen Apple TV a few weeks ago.  Now I want to watch it in another room where I have an older HD based Apple TV (1st gen I think).  When I look in iTunes on my computer, I can see that it's listed as being available in my account in the cloud.  I can't see it from my older Apple TV.  I don't want to have to keep this on my computer given it's size (5GB), so the solution of downloading to my PC and syncing isn't too attractive.

    AppleTV 1 is not aware of movies in the cloud so your only option to get the movie onto there is to download the HD version to iTunes and sync or buy it again direct on AppleTV.
    You may be able to do a manual sync, then delete from iTunes but next time you sync if the item is not in itunes it will likely go from ATV1.
    Remember ATV1 will not play the 1080p HD version as it maxes out for video decoding with teh 720p ones even thouigh it can be set up for 1080p upscaled output.
    Have you considered keeping larger items on an external drive ?  You can mix and match locations for media in various ways eg with smaller music files on the main hard drive (eg laptop) and larger video files on an external only available for playback or syncing when plugged in.
