2 node cluster windows 2008 R2 cluster won't form

Hi,
I'm trying to build a 2 node cluster and having no luck at all.   My validation works great but when I go to create the cluster it fails on the forming cluster section after about 2 minutes.   I seem to have everything in order and can't
figure out the problem.   Here is what is in the cluster log.

Just to make sure I have given both nodes every permission under the sun.  I have tried creating the cluster computer in AD beforehand and disabling the computer and I have tried letting clustering services create the computer to no avail.
Please help!

Here is the complete log Edwin.   Thank you.

    Hi,
As far as I know there don’t have the log replica function between failover cluster node, if you want to have the Unified log management you can refer the following related
    KB:

  • Which account is used to failover to passive node of Windows 2008 R2 2-node cluster?

When I set up drive letter for shared drives in Windows 2008 R2 2-node cluster, I accidentally used a drive letter which has already mapped automatically due to the login I used.   After I run the cluster validation tests, all the drive letters
for shared drives are changed.   I fixed this issue by disconnecting the automatic mapped drive and reassigned all the drive letters.
However, I wonder whether CNO is used to perform the failover so such issue will not occur actually.  Also, what happen if someone is logged on the passive node when the failover occur and any of the drive letters assigned for the shared drives
is already mapped due to that person's login.

    Hi Sebastian,
Let me clarify my question.  For example, there are clustered drives W:, M:, and L:.   Active Directory Group Policy has policy for some users to have mapped drive M:.
What will happen if failover occurs when one of the users having that policy is still logged on the passive node?
What will happen if failover occurs but that user has already logged off the passive node?
AKAIK, mapped drives are tied to the current logon user not for all users.
I don't know which account is actually used for the failover process.  CNO, VNO, the domain user account used to create the windows cluster, or ?
    Thanks.

  • Domain migration of Oracle RAC nodes on windows 2008

    Hello masters,
We are planning to migrate servers from old domain to a new domain due to company name change. That is, our DB servers named like db-node-x.old-domain.com will be migrated to db-node-x.new-domain.com. The servers are all on Windows 2008 R2 and Oracle RAC 11g2. As dba, i have no idea about what will happen to DBs. Please let me know any possible solutions?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Everyone,
I installed Oracle RAC 11g on Windows 2008 64 bit, The installation was successfull crs_state -t executed successfully.
Bt the machine got crashed ,when executed a select query with 100 sessions( For performance evaluation using TG). A blue screen is appeared on two nodes. So i am not able to evaluate the performance.
Can you please tell any suggesstions to solve this issue? Is our hardware is not sufficient? Or any software settings has to be done?. I tried most of hte technique ,bt the problem still exists.
The following machine configuration is used for Oracle RAC setup
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz,
    Ram :4GB.
    OS : windows 2008 Server 64 Bit
Oracle RAC , Clusterware 11g R2 64 Bit.i guess you have installed/configured RAC using VMware. i guess, the problem is with your RAM size. how much disk space and RAM size you have allocated for each machine?
    which documentation you have followed?

  • I run Dev 6i on Windows 2008 R2 64-bit,the forms are working fine after connection to the database but the reports continue to request for username, password and database connection string every time i try to open a report.

I receive REP-0501: Unable to connect to specified database. I run developer 6i application on windows 2008 r2. I have applied the nn60.dll and nnb60.dll files to the \BIN directory. The forms are working fine. The reports will only display after the correct user id (username, password and database connection string) is supplied. This is happening to all attempts to open already complied form. Pls, help.

If you are connecting to an Oracle 11g database, remember that by default the passwords are case sensitive. To disable that, run
    ALTER SYSTEM SET SEC_CASE_SENSITIVE_LOGON = FALSE;

  • Windows 2008 R2 servers won't update manually or via WSUS - error code 80073712

We have a number of Windows Server 2008 R2 servers which have been refusing majority of windows updates for a while now.
Tried DSIM utility and SURT - both produce  errors in checksur.log, although different:
DSIM- 4 * problems with IE hyphenation and Spelling in package manifests and catalogue
SURT - 2 * CSI Missing Winning Component Key
Any ideas as to what we can do next ?
All these servers are business critical, so we are not in a position to 'play' too much with any of them and don't particularly want to rebuild them(e.g. exchange, sharepoint)
(note, in case it is relevant, all these servers were physical but converted to virtual march this year and updates worked for a few months after that)

    Hi,
Have you tried to use sfc /scannow first?
After that, please run DSIM and SURT again.
If it doesn't work, due to the servers are business critical, it is recommanded that you contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) via telephone so that a dedicated Support Professional can assist with your request. Thanks for your understanding.
To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below:

  • Windows 7 and Windows 2008 drive mappings won't work

Hi, I'm trying to map a network drive using the group policy preferences. I can map drive no problem when i'm using static paths such as '\\servername\sharedfolder'. However i am unable to map drives to Windows 7 or Windows 2008R2 boxes when i use variables,
such as \\Servername\c$\users\%username% This works fine on XP clients, after some googling i discovered hitting F3 would give me a list of usable variables so i tried %logonUser% or \\servername\c$\users\%logonuser% this also fails to map the drive on Windows
7 or 2008R2. The preferences are set to show all drives and i have ticked the box to run under the users security context. If i look in the event log I am getting the following error
    Event id - 4098
Source: - Group Policy Drive Maps
The user 'Y:' preference item in the 'test {21D9AF2B-8139-44EC-B8AA-E20802A51293}' Group Policy object did not apply because it failed with error code '0x80070037 The specified network resource or device is no longer available.' This error was suppressed.
This happens if i try to use any enviromental variables to map drives to 2008R2 servers or Windows7 Clients. Does anyone know how to solve this surely i must be able to map drives to Windows 7 machines via group policy using variables it would seem like madness
    if its not possible.

This is a link where you can find a list of Windows Environment Variable:
    http://www.technipages.com/list-of-windows-environment-variables.html
    It should help you.
I have another link for another person who faced the same problem with the %logonuser% variable, so have a look at it:

  • MDM 7.1 Installation on a Windows 2008 Cluster

    Hello everyone,
We have a two node x64 Windows 2008 Server cluster.
We have just installed MDM 7.1 (MDS & MDIS) onto the Microsoft Failover Cluster which already has an ABAP system and a JAVA system installed.  Each of these systems has it's own Cluster Service/Application as required, with shared storage (saploc & sapmnt share for each install).
The only way I can get the MDM services to start (SAPMDQ_04 & SAPMDQ_05) is if the local saploc share is removed from each node (c:\sap\usr).
The following entry exists in the Windows Event log when the MDS or MDIS service tries to start
Unable to change to Directory C:\usr\sap\MDQ\MDS04\work. (Error 3 ESRCH*: No such process OR: The system cannot find the path specified.) [ntservstart.cpp 1053]
This path is not valid which is why the service doesn't start but I cannot work out why it is defaulting to looking at the saploc share on c:\usr\sap.  MDS and MDIS are installed on the shared cluster disk which is v:\usr\sap so why does it not pick up this share i.e.
SRMQAMDMCI\saploc.  (SRMQAMDMCI is the name of the Client Access Point for the MDM cluster service)
-> I can browse to this share perfectly fine
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Regards
    Dave H

I was just wondering if you found a solution to this problem.
I am currently installing a multi-sid installation on 2008 and getting the same problem.
The first <SID> was fine, but now when I try to install the the second <SID> I am getting the same problem with the saploc when installing the SCS.
The install recognizes the the Virtual saploc, but when the service starts it tries to use the physical saploc.

Please do help me in this regards, Awaiting for your favorable reply and suggestions
    Thanks and regards
    Srini

    Hello Srini,
Please run the cluster validation and make sure the node1 network configuration is properly configured, this issue is due the communication timeout between the nodes.
There are 2 causes for this issue
1 --> Duplicate accounts in AD, this error occurs if you are adding node to cluster which has the computer name same as the user account name in active directory
2 --> windows firewall port might block the communication ports between the nodes, please make sure you turn off windows firewall on both the nodes
Look for any specific errors in system event logs
If you dont get much information then please generate cluster log and upload it here then we can analyse and see what's causing this issue.
    Cluster log /gen
will generate a cluster log and place it in the %systemroot%\Windows\System32\Cluster\Reports
Sincerely, Asifkhan -- Please mark my post helpful if it was really helpful to you.

  • Can't remove Failover Cluster feature on Windows 2008 R2

    Hello
When remove the Failover Cluster feature has following message:
    Cannot remove Failover Clusting
This server is an active node in a failover cluster. Uninstalling the Failover CVlustering feature on thos node may impact the availabilty of clustered service and applications. It is recommended that you first evict the server from cluster membership. This
can be done through the Failover Cluster Management snap-in by expanding the console tree under Nodes, selecting the node, clicking More Actions, and then clicking Evict.
I'm sure there no cluster formed, so how can I remove it?
    Thanks !

Hey I have the same problem,
Somehow cluster got installed on one node on windows 2008 R2 but it was not showing anything in cluster fail over manager wizard and cluster service is
    not running
when I am trying to remove the fail over cluster it says
    "This

be done through the Failover Cluster Management snap-in by expanding the console tree under Nodes, selecting the node, clicking More Actions, and then clicking Evict."
    But there
is no cluster at all, I am not sure how remove it
    So let
me know will that  power shell command "clear-clusternode" fixes my problem?
    and please
let me know do I need to run it in normal Power shell command line or Power shell failover cluster manager command line?

    Hi
Presently, i have a cluster SQL 2012 on windows 2008 R2 (2 nodes), i need to add a new server in cluster.
My question, it's possible to add WINDOWS 2012 SERVER with SQL 2012?
(2 nodes with Windows 2008 R2, 1 node with Windows 2012 and all nodes with SQL 2012)
If yes, do you have a link that
    confirms this?
    Thanks

No. This is not possible. Microsoft Windows Cluster required all the Member Nodes to have same OS to the Same version level. Even you cannot use Windows Server 2008 on one node with Windows Server 2008 R2 on another node.

  • Can a Cisco 881 router create an L2TP/IPsec tunnel via NAT to Windows 2008?

    Hi
Was anyone successfull in setting up an L2TP/IPsec tunnel through NAT-T against a Windows 2008/ R2 RRAS server? I am using an 881 router and the layout is someting like this:
    Client -> 881 -> NAT -> internet -> Windows 2008 RRAS
The tunnel goes form the 881 to the Windows server (not from the client...).
    Thanks
    Roland

    Hi Federico
Thanks for your help! Much appreciated.
In my case this should be transparent to the client - I would like not to initiate the connection from the client.
Does that makes sense? I am considering L2TP because Windows 2008 R2 doesn't support IPSec tunnels through NAT (2008 R2 being the responder and the Cisco router the initiator of the IPSec connection).

  • How to test node failover in Windows 2008 R2 Failover Cluster?

Can anyone give me advice on how to properly test a node failure with a 2 mode Failover Cluster in Windows 2008 R2?

To test the failover of a clustered service or application
In the Failover Cluster Manager snap-in, if the cluster that you want to configure is not displayed, in the console tree, right-click
Failover Cluster Manager, click Manage a Cluster, and then select or specify the cluster that you want.
If the console tree is collapsed, expand the tree under the cluster that you want to configure.
Expand Services and Applications, and then click the service or application for which you want to test failover.
Under Actions (on the right), click Move this service or application to another node.
As the service or application moves, the status is displayed in the results pane (center pane).
Optionally, repeat step 4 to move the service or application to an additional node or back to the original node.
