2 Questions: Can u turn on computer w/o having to open the laptop? and...
...what is the proper way to disconnect the laptop from the monitor if I want to use the laptop separately? Do I have to shut everything down first then disconnect the cables?
The first question is really what's bothering me. Not that it's alot of work, but if there are key commands on the keyboard to turn the entire system on without having to open the laptop that would be great. Thanks!

No. It is designed for plugging or unplugging with power on.

If it is off, not just sleeping, you have to use the power button.

How can I turn off computer screen, when mirroring to apple tv?
How can I turn off computer screen, when mirroring to apple tv?
Thanks.Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can't. Mirroring is just what it says, it mirrors exactly what is on your computer screen, if there is nothing on your computer screen, that's what you will see on your TV screen. -
I have an Iphone 3g and i can't turn on, but if i plug it on the Iphone charger i can see the Apple Logo but it quickly disappears(Apple Logo SOD) When I connect it to the computer it won't charge and it won't turn on, I tried DFU mode and it doesn't work. I tried STABBING IT(lol, it works sometimes) and i doesn't work again. If i can't connect it to the computer i can recover it but i know that it still works. WHAT SHOULD I DO!!!!!

Apple suggest a removal and re-install of iTunes to get over the 1601 / 1602 error message.
Other sites suggest trying a different USB socket… direct to the PC / Mac not a hub.

Can't turn off computer because mail won't quit
Can't turn off computer because mail interupts shut down. I can force quit, but nothing happens. literally.
I'm also using Apple Mail with a POP account and Exchange as well.
One easy thing to try first is to Rebuild the Mail boxes, choose each Inbox in sequence and go to the Mailbox Menu > Reubild
Do this for the POP account Mailbox and the Exchange in that order. Try quitting Apple Mail and see what happens.
Reading this also led me to do a Google Search on Apple Mail hang on quit. Which led me to this message in the Discussion Group:
From Member: BDAqua
First I'd backup your whole Mail folder. Try trashing this file first, then logout/in... /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist If that doesn't work try the .plists in...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/
So what you want to do to first backup your email is this:
http://www.maclife.com/article/howtos/how_back_and_restore_mail_lion
Follow the steps 1 & 2 to create backups of the mail boxes.
Then go to the Desktop > Go Menu > (hold down Option Key) choose Library > Preferences > (look for com.apple.mail.plist) drag it to the trash
Logout of your Mac, Log back in. Start Mail see if it hangs on quit
If that fails o to the Desktop > Go Menu > (hold down Option Key) choose Library > Mail > MailData > (there are .plists in here to that could be causing issues). *WARNING: Make sure to have all your account settings written down in advance of trashing these .plists. You want everything written down in case you have type it ALL in again once these .plists are eliminated. -

<Personal Information Edited by Host>Try a pram reset; Power down in the normal procedure, power back up holding the following keys before the start up chime ; option, command,P,R (no commas)continue to hold these these keys until you hear the start up chimes 2 times, then release. Reboot and see if this helps. If this persists, you should bring the machine to an Apple store, or an AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) Hope this helps:)

Where can I buy a larger hard drive for my late 2008, 15" macbook pro? From reviewing questions and answers on the support community it would appear that having Apple remove the old and install the new hard drive is recommended. But how/where?
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can install the new hard disk yourself if you want to. You just need a 2'5" SATA II hard drive, which is compatible with your MacBook Pro. You can buy one at OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/ You can filter hard drives by computer, so press a "Click to view all...", choose your computer in the sidebar and it will give you the compatible hard drives.
There are different brands for the MacBook Pro. The most recommended are HGST and Seagate, which have good reputation. A 7200 rpm hard drive will give you extra performance -
I am trying to stop programs from opening automatically when I turn my computer on. I tried system preferences>users and groups>login items...then I deleted them itunes and emial from the list but it did nothing. They continue to open up every time I turn on my Macbook Pro.
Hi r,
It sounds like you're running Lion?
Have you tried running Verify and/or Repair Disk?
Have you tried running Repair Permissions?
Do you have at least 15% free space available on your HD? -

I would like to ask the following question. I am using mac os x 10.9 maverics me quicktime player version 10.3. Can I trim a video recording without having to press the pause or save it as a file? Or can I add a new recording to a video file? Thanks in advanceWell,
I tried the "Internet Recovery" option and finally saw Mac OS X Mountain Lion's install page but after waiting 7 hours when I just thought its going to start installing, I got another progress bar with 36 hours remining time to download "Additional Components" then after progressing 2-3 hours, it shows "Unable to write installation something..., Contact Apple Care"
Then I accidently rebooted the machine and now it seems Internet Recovery don't work anymore, it shows "support.apple.com - 40 something!" error, and finally when I tried to reboot using Recovery HD, I found it's gone as-well!
To be honest, I don't know what to do now, I am and dissapointed... also I do not have any Apple Store nearby, there is an authorized country reseller almost 650/km far away from my residents and they even charges too high (like $250) for doing such repairs (as per phone conversation)
If anyone have any idea or anything to help me with, please do share- I'd be eternally grateful! -
When I turn my computer on,it asks me to log in, and when I do, it is a white screen. HELP!
Welcome to Apple Discussions
You may have a corrupt System File in your OS on on your HD. Try doing a repair (Command-R) boot running disk tools repair disk and repair permissions on your boot volume. If that fails do a reinstall of the OS. -
cannot open the menu and cannot even turn it off, the white apple image is displayed on the screen. how can i get into the menu?
Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider.
