I have read the search forum regarding... and i am still confused?
are we to journal or not journal when reformatting a disk for our Final Cut Pro scratch disk files?

I emailed the guys at superduper regarding my problem. I do not understand what he is trying to tell me. I thought one of you could translate? thank you
it starts off with my questions and then his reply:
1) should I wait to do a clean install until i install snow leopard?
I am looking at making a backup copy of my system drive to one of my
internal drives temporary until i can get an external drive.
then i will install snow leapord on my main system drive and then make
a back up of the new clean install system drive to the external drive.
I will then use what files I need from the internal copy to put back on
my clean install drive. i.e. emails, favorites, iphoto, itunes files.
Then update my new copy on my external and erase my system drive on my internal hard drive.

So then i wrote back "what does "backing up to an image"?

Can anyone tell me what is he trying to say?
do not journal AV drives, only the system drive requires journaling on
when upgrading to Snow Leopard, it is recommended to clean install so that it is a completely fresh install:
back up all the work files to CD or a hard drive
erase the disc
format the hard drive as Mac OS Extended Journaled
install Snow Leopard
install all the applications from the original install discs and update using Software Update
copy over your the copied workfiles
the recommended way to set up a clone of the system drive is:
# clone your system drive of the new clean Snow Leopard install
# buy an internal drive that will fit in the Mac pro so you have two internal drives fitted; the original system drive and a back up clone
# copy over the clone files onto the new internal drive so that you have an instant swap over system drive with all the applications ready to go
a disc image is a single file containing many smaller files-forget about this for setting up the system clone

Right arrow & ALT key not working right after clean install of XP Pro
My 3000 N100 stopped booting so I had to reinstall. Had a full license for XP Pro that I wasn't using yet, so decided to do a clean install.
Am still working on getting various things working (e.g., audio), but at the moment the biggest irritations are the following:
1) My right arrow is disabled completely.
2) The ALT+TAB combo doesn't work properly. When I do it in Firefox, for example, it does some sort of scrolling down-screen.
Anyway, to isolate the problem, I tried plugging in a USB keyboard. With that keyboard, everything appeared to work fine.
Now, before you tell me that it's just something under the keyboard (which was replaced shortly before the crash, so I doubt that's the problem) keep in mind that the ALT+TAB *does* do something (and not the simply TAB alone), which leads me to suspect the problem lies in how the ALT key and the right arrow key are mapped.
Any ideas?
Could this be related to a driver that I still need to install? (My device mgr still has a bunch of things with question marks.)

You did not say whether it came with win 8 and it whether it worked before.
I have a b320 and the touch is not compatible with win 8 and it works for general stuff but won't bring the charm list in from the side nor work in the left corners, nor some of the swipe features.
No drivers for the b320 yet. Windows set it up with something that kind of functions.
It did come with Windows 8 installed. It also came with CD containing Win8 Driver Pack v1.0. I installed all of the drivers from this CD.
Where would I find this list of compatibility problems that you refer to?

Three user accounts on the same computer all link to a single copy of Firefox 3.6.8 - but one of them has suddenly lost its ability to use the program. Firefox opens in that account, but it cannot connect to the Internet. 'Done' appears at the lower left of a blank Firefox page [it's set to load a blank page initially], as though a page had finished downloading ... but Firefox does not actually generate any Internet activityx.
Previously, the Firefox connection for this account was smooth and reliable. I haven't added, upgraded or downloaded any new programs, nor made any other computer changes in recent weeks or months.
Puzzlingly - that same account still connects successfully to the Internet via Safari. And the other accounts on the same computer continue to use Firefox with no problem - including a test user-account that I set up today to help troubleshoot the problem. The blockage is restricted solely to Firefox with that one user account.
Following your Support page instructions, I did a clean-install of Firefox 3.6.8, removing both the existing Firefox 3.6.8 and the Library/Application Support/Firefox folder. Going the extra mile, I checked all accounts to be certain that no Firefox folders remained in any of them - then emptied the Trash and restarted before installing a freshly downloaded 3.6.8. But blimey - the blockage still persists for that one user account.
Firefox shows no visible cookies that might influence the connection. [It's set to delete all cookies upon closing anyway.] And I see no obvious instructions in Mac's firewall or any software program to refuse access to Firefox. The computer is stand-alone, not networked. And in any case, Firefox works just fine in the two other user accounts.
Deleting the hobbled user account is not feasible. So what is causing this roadblock? Did I miss a step in the clean-install? How can that account resume using Firefox?

You can also delete active-update.xml and possibly updates.xml (stores the update history).

SSD Cache Not Working U840 after Clean Install Intel Smart Response Technology
Hello, I completed a clean install of Windows 8 on my ultrabook model U840 (Core i3, 16GB SSD). I would appreciate any advice to get the SSD to use the Intel Smart Response Technology (SRT) for SSD Cache.
I used the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) driver during install and after installing Windows 8 but I do not recieve the option to Accelerate the SSD drive. The computer is supported for Windows 8 upgrade and clean install drivers are available at Toshiba: http://support.toshiba-tie.co.jp/windows8/drivers_cae.htm

I urge you to at least read my post in the other Toshiba forum for a fuller grasp and overview, but I have also attached the two Intel website and PDF links for you.
Keep in mind that there are seemingly two types or Intel Rapid Cache type options. Follow the instructions in the intel link and one of them will work for you. (I hope it does work for you because i know how frustrating this issue is)

Screen brightness OSD not working after 7 clean install
Hi all,
I just did a clean install of Windows 7 on my T400. Initially, none of the OSDs were working (volume, led light, screen brightness). But, I found this thread--http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/On-Screen-Display-feature-no-longer-works-i...--and downloaded the Hotkey drivers. This brought back the volume and led OSDs, but not brightness. Additionally, for some reason now the screen does not get nearly as dim as it used to.
Am I missing something obvious? Thanks!

My Contacts, Calendars are NOT syncing on a Clean Install of Lion
I did a Clean Install of Lion Yesterday and for some reason, my Contacts and Calendars are NOT syncing into my laptop.
Am I missing a setting somewhere?I forgot to mention, the ODD thing, my bookmarks DID sync into Safari.

"Time machine not configured" after yosemite clean install
I'm on a MBP early 2011, 16gb Ram, Seagate 500gb used to back up with Time Machine. I was doing manual backups once a month. Having wifi problems like everyone else and general slowdowns on the machine even before the regular install of Yosemite (on top of Mountain Lion, on top of Snow Leopard) I decided to do a clean install. Start fresh. Followed all the directions. But,little did I know that by changing my user name (not deliberately) on my brand new OS, I don't have access to TM. At least that's what I think is up with this "TM not configured"
How should I proceed?
Can I configure the drive now with my new username and still have access to my files? I wanted to bring over some of them, not all of them. If it's possible to do this, and I do, will I have all kinds of permissions or other problems? Will I lose my old backups if I configure it?
Or should I just start over with another kind of clean install? It's only been a couple of days.If I restored from the backup or whatever options there are, am I actually reinstalling the problems I was trying to eliminate? The upgrade to 16gb ram was part of my initial troubleshooting.
Other options?
Thanks!My family upgraded to Yosemite on our 3 Macs four days ago: on an iMac, a MacBook Pro, and a MacBook Air, all three Macs from early 2014.
In Mavericks there was never any trouble with the Time Machine. But now on all three Macs, the TM doesn’t function properly.
1) on entering TM, the Restore and the two Arrow buttons for selecting the date are dimmed out 90% of the time; nothing can be done, for example, clicking on the Finder folders or files and so on is impossible.
2) sometimes, however, only the Restore button is dimmed out, or vice versa, only the two Arrow buttons.
3) on two occasions, no buttons were dimmed out, but on the very first click, all the buttons were again dimmed out
4) on the iMac and the Mac Book Pro, thank God, the backups still seem to be working; however, on the MacBook Air, a „preparing backup“ message just keeps on running and running.
The TM is a major feature of OS X that Apple pushes hard in its ads. Hopefully this means we’ll soon have an update. As a normal Mac user, I would find it difficult to apply any more exotic workaround solutions that some Mac experts might offer. My patience and ability to troubleshoot doesn’t go much beyond David Pogue’s latest OS X manual.
Anyway, a last more point: the previous TM was a thing of beauty, and I really enjoyed being sort of shot into space with the stars, like Dante on his way to the Empyrean; but now, on entering the TM in Yosemite, it looks like the Finder has fallen into an ugly pool of mud.

Under Network adpter it should show Broadcom 802.11 /
11b/g/n Wireless, Realtek Wireless or Atheros Wireless,,
If non
Check for any Device under device manager that has a yellow Symbol, like an exlamation mark sign,
It should say Network Controller

Check Your BIOS Settings,
Keep on hitting F2 right after you power on the system, This should boot you to BIOS
Go to Configuration TAB and look for Wireless Option and Make sure it is enabled
hit F10 to Save your changes and Exit

Newly formatted PC, Windows Vista. I did a clean install of FF5, pulled down as the default download from the Mozilla website. Installed Forecast Fox, didn't show. Turned on the add-on toolbar, it now shows FireBug and AdBlocker icons, but no ForecastFox. I installed StatusBar-4-Eva, the icons changed alignment to the right side, but still no ForecastFox

I filed a Bug report about the issue of what I consider incomplete instructions for that add-on on the AMO website. But as I suspected would happen when I was filing that report, it was marked as INVALID. <br />

Logicool mouse not scrolling properly after clean install
I decided to refresh my Macbook Pro this weekend, and since then, my Logicool T631 hasn't been scrolling properly. Before the wipe, everything was fine, and there has been no damage to the mouse. My preferences all seem to be in order. Does anyone know what happened? May be unrelated, but the mouse also seemed to pair itself with my freshly mindwiped machine, and worked from the jump without me pushing any buttons or inputting any codes.
For example, vertical scrolling is currently horizontally moving the page. More often, simple scrolling barely moves at all, then jumps the page all the way to the bottom, or close to it, using the same motion.Try resetting the PRAM......other than that, I have no thoughts.

When I try to setup my new iPad air, I go through all the steps for the iCloud sign-in and choosing security questions and what not. But after I hit the agree to the terms and conditions... It says Apple ID could not be created because of a server error. Have no clue what to do... I've restarted the iPad and get the same message. But my internet works just fine.

I have a few questions on Metalink note 392673.1. This note states that if two schema have objects with similar names and these two schema issue identical statements, it is possible that the statement will run against the wrong schema's object if "a cursor gets reloaded in a certain manner".
Does anyone know any more details? What manner of reloading? Will synonyms prevent the problem? Is there a test case?
Also, the note states that it applies to versions 10.1.0.2 to 10.2.0.3, while the bug claims that it is fixed in 10.2.0.3. Is 10.2.0.3 affected or not?

It seems that bug is solved in 10.2.0.3 patchset, and interim patch for 10.2.0.2.
Anyway, if you have any question on metalink note, you might have more chance to get a valid answer by asking it into metalink forum, or send an email to the author of the note.

Every time I open a pdf file which includes a javascript, a dialogue box pops up. I have a question why 'Do not show this message again' is not working even I checked on the checkbox. It should block the dialogue next time when I open the same pdf file but not working. What is the matter and how can I deal with it?
I am trying it on Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.2.1. Tried to fix Hex code, and also tried 'edit-preference-trust manager'. I focusing on Adobe registries but still couldn't fix the problem.
