2 step verification disabled my Mac Mail

I set up 2 step verification which seemed fine on my iPhone and iPad when I created and entered the app passwords but my Mac Mail was disabled, saying it couldn't connect to the outgoing server. Anyone have this same issue?

  • 2 step verification settings for outgoing MAIL SMTP for GMail

and i am in the outgoing SMTP > ADVANCED section of mail where i have an iCloud, GMail and domain based email SMTP addresses.
does anyone know if i set up a SMTP server for Mac Mail as having an authentication set to "none" or set to "password" for GMAIL and whether this password should be one of these online generated 2 step verification passwords?
i seem to have this account on sparrow with no problems at all but i am noticing that GMail mail is not showing up on either of my mac mail installations on either of my machines

    Hi Hotwheels
had similar issues. But incoming worked fine immediately, only outgoing was an issue.
(Though on iPad + iPhone both in- and out-going mails worked fine.)
I generated a password via Google only ONCE for may Mail app. And I entered it only ONCE in the settings. No other changes done.
So on the Mail application, I saw e-mails coming in. My outgoing e-mail stayed in my "outbox".
I just switched to another outgoing server. In my case, when I opened the advanced settings, a popup screen showed up with a number (approx 10) outgoing servers, all named exactly the same: "Gmail" ;-)
The one that was selected had the message "off-line" behind it and so were a couple of others.
As soon as I picked one that was apparently on-line, the mails in my outbox were send within seconds ...
So problem solved without actually really changing settings or entering paswords.
    Hope this helps

  • Google 2-step Verification and Problem Sending Mail

Hi - I am trying to upgrade to Google's 2-step verification process. I have successfully switched over my iPhone and iChat. However, every time I open the Mail program (Version 4.5 (1084)), I need to enter a new Google-generated password to send mail. Receiving is fine - it's the sending that's the problem. Any tips? Thank you!

A correction - my iPhone is having the same problem as my computer. I have to reset the password on both every day in order to send mail. Receiving mail is never a problem. Any thoughts? Thanks!

  • Disable Mac Mail Pop Up

I don't wont to use mac mail becuase I use yahoo for email service. I won't be able send mail through mac mail using my yahoo account unless I upgrade. Which I don't see a need to do. I would like to disable the mac mail pop up. So when I click on an email us link it goes to my yahoo account instead.

First off, I suggest you not post this kind of
account info in the clear in a public forum for
    security & anti-spam reasons.
Regarding the message itself, do you have the web
mail interface for this account open at the same time
you are using Mail to access the account? Have you
logged out of the web mail version before using Mail?
It sounds like some other client app or possibly the
web mail interface has opened a session with the
account & hasn't closed it, preventing Mail from
setting its own lock with the server for its own
    session.
Thanks. I just went into Road Runner and changed all the account passwords then made corresponding changes in the Mail Account passwords. This seems to have worked.

  • Mac mail not working with gmail 2 step verification in yosemite

Every couple of days my 2 step verification seems to drop off the mac mail (and calendar) radar. Ive been using mac mail with 2 step verification (gmail account) for about 8 months, no problems. About 1 month ago my mac started asking for my gmail password. I have revoked and regenerated my password about 6 times recently to try to overcome this issue. The new password works for a couple of days and then mail and calendar start asking from my password again.

Not quite a reply, but I'm not sure how best to add to my first comment.
One of the issues with this (and there are multiple) is that I can't use handoff to work on something on my mac, started on my ipad, if it is working through my gmail account eg notes, calendar, email.
This bug is totally crippling the productivity and flexibility that came with ios8/yosemite developments.

  • TS3899 While messing with my two step verification I inadvertinely did something to disconnect myself from my gmail account that is on my mac mail.  I can't send or receive any mail

while messing with my two step verification on my gmail account I inadvertently did sometime to my gmail account on my Mac mail.  I can't send or receive mail.  Any thoughts

When it asks for the password, typically this is a random number sent to you via text message from Google.  I get a new code everytime I want to add a new device or log into from a new computer.  It can get very annoyingif you access your account from various computers or devices.  Once its working its not bad though.  You may want to go back in and turn the 2 step authentication off.

  • I want to disable two step verification on my iphone

I am unable to use Chrome or Mail on my iphone because when I enter the code given for two step verification, it is not accepted.  My phone is set to the correct time.  I cannot get into settings without the verification code.

    For what it's worth:
WARNING:  If you use iTunes to sync photos between your iPhone or iPad and your Mac do not activate the iCloud Drive. Doing so will kill the capability of using iTunes to sync with your mobile device and disable Documents & Data syncing for your iCloud account on OS X Mavericks and earlier Macs, as well as iOS 7 and earlier devices.

  • Mac Mail disabled

I just got a new MacBook Pro (my first Mac) for my work computer. Our IS has decided to force us to use Thunderbird and disabled Mac Mail. Does anyone know a way to enable or reinstall it? I don't have access to the OS disc. I think the application is still there, but just disabled somehow. The icon is still in the Applications folder, but if you try to launch it, nothing happens. The mail icon shows up on the dock momentarily, but then goes away. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Mail and Gmail two-step verification

For the last several days I've been encountering an issue with Mail.app and gmail where my application specific password is valid for one day only. This is not the case for the application specific password I have set up to work with Mail on my iPhone or any other apps. I have used two step verification successfully for months until one day, inexplicably, I was alerted that my password was incorrect. As I mentioned, this happens now on a daily basis.
For what it's worth, I've tried what's listed in this thread to no avail.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15206873
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi All,
I used to have that sort of problem,
first you could go to the connection doctor on you mac (it's on your 'Window' - > 'Connection Doctor' )
then check if your google account 'Smtp tab ' and 'Imap tab '  are all on the green light
If one of it is not connected ( Which means 'red' light ) , here is my solution .
Go  your keychain access ( comman + space 'keychain' )
    click tab 'LOGIN'
On the search tab Find either SMTP/IMAP  (Depend which got the red light)
There will be several accounts shown up if you have multiple email account registered on you mac mail.
find manually the account of your gmail account (Double click each one of it to check which account it )
Check again if you have 2 key chain on one single account
After you find your google account on your key chain  and check the box "SHOW PASSWORD"
Change the password according to the google 2 step verification password
click save changes .  (enter your admin password)
    Hope this will help

  • Gmail won't work in Mail with two step verification.

I have been hacked several times with google's email service by people in China and I decided to try their two step verification to add some security. But when I try to add the account on my mac mail list it says that it is offline and the app specific password doesn't work. I have changed the app specific password three times and all of them don't work. Please help!

Eliminate Mail by testing in Postbox and MailMate. Both have demos.

If you cannot set an app specific password for these apps then the problem is with your account. It's difficult to actually get Gmail support so your best option might be to delete this account. Set up a new account with two step authentication immediately.
You also have other options for getting a free email account. Set up an Apple iCloud email or get an Outlook.com (previously Hotmail.com, Live.com, MSM.com).
Whatever you do you need to do the two step authentication.

  • HT204152 Apple ID Disabled & Lost Recovery Key (Two-Step Verification)

    If you use Two-Step Verification:
If your Apple ID is disabled "for security reasons" AND you lost your Recovery Key ALL HOPE IS NOT LOST!  Speaking from a recent, nearly devastating experience, I hopefully will provide some relief to others in the same boat...
After speaking to several customer service representatives who basically told me that without the recovery key, there was no way to access my account and everything would be lost forever, I finally spoke with a senior customer service representative that actually understood my issue (most thought I just forgot my password).
As it turns out, my account was locked due to too many incorrect PW attempts (not exactly sure how that happened).  I was prompted to go to appleid.apple.com and when trying to log in, prompted to enter my Recovery Key.  I couldn't get further than that.  What I didn't realize and the other reps didn't tell me was after 8 hours, the account is unlocked.  I was then able to log in at applied.apple.com and verify my account using a trusted device.  I was then able to create a new recovery key (and print it out and put copies everywhere so this wouldn't happen again!).
Lessons Learned:  1. Don't lose the Recovery Key again!  2. When talking to Apple Customer Service, ask to speak with a senior customer service representative.  3.  Wait 8 hours without trying to log in and your Apple ID is unlocked again.

we all have had unsatisfactory results with entry level CS techs. Your advice to be assertive about speaking with a Senior Tech is sound and where I have ALWAYS found satsifaction. Methinks the proprietary Customer Service Knowledge Base may be running the same software as our forums - Terrible searching is a rule here. - the other two suggestions are very good as well - ÇÇÇ

  • Mac Mail- Disable inline attachment

I use my mac mail 6.2 for business and I cannot seem to figure out how to disable the inline attachments. My attachments such as pdf's show up in the email versus someone clicking and opening them up as an attachment like they would with outlook. It's hard to send bigger files when this occurs.

    Two options to consider.
Zip the files (control-click, "Compress...") and attach the .zip files.
    Use something like Attachment Tamer

  • Disable .Mac mail account on work computer

I have a PowerBook G4 at my home office and a MacBookPro that my employer has given me for work. I want to use the Mac Mail desktop client on my MacBookPro as my desktop email client, but every time I launch Mac Mail on my MBP, it also downloads my personal email (i.e., mail items stored on my .Mac server/account). I don't want my personal email to automatically download to and appear on my employer's MBP. How do I configure it so that it doesn't automatically download the email that's on my .Mac account/server? Thanks much.
Steps I've taken so far without any success:
-Deleted account from Mail>System Preferences (fails because when I re-start Mail, it just repeats the process, i.e., downloads my personal mail from .Mac)
-Removed my work computer from the registered list of computers that appear under System Preferences>.Mac Account>Advanced

Thanks. That solved the problem temporarily, but when I re-launched the Mail app again, it automatically downloaded all the personal messages from .Mac.
Someone later explained to me that the problem lies more on the .Mac side of things than with the Mail client and told me to do this, which resolved the problem. (see below if you or anyone else is interested.) Thanks again for your help!
Go to System Preferences->.Mac account preference pane and delete all the information there. That is where Mail is finding it.

  • How can I disable 2 step Verification on Thunderbird

I have been trying and trying for hours to remove the 2 step verification from my computer. Every time I open my email I put in my password and then a minute later I get the message 'Sending of password for user *my username* did not succeed. Mail server *Server name* responded: Authentication failed.' Then it asks me to enter a new password or retry. But, clicking either option will just cause the entire thing to repeat itself. I'm sick and tired of not being able to get my messages on my computer and just and to get rid of the 2 step Verification. And, please, I'm not a computer person, I need STEP by STEP instructions on how to do this.

  • Disable hyperlink trigger of Mac Mail

I think I may wish to disable Mac Mail. The problem is that when I click on a hyperlink in a document cell in a pread sheet that contains a hyperlink (e-mail address) my Mac automatically starts Mac Mail and presents a new mail message that is already addressed. I do not want Mac Mail to automatically open. How can I prevent this from happening or am I just stuck with this feature? Should I remove Mac Mail from my applications if I do not use it?

    Hi Shirley,
Should I remove Mac Mail from my applications if I do not use it?
    That'd be the easiest thing.
