2 weeks to get a PAC from BT

Don't sign up for BT Mobile unless you know you have good network coverage! I was happily with O2 but moved to an area with no 02 coverage. As we already used BT Broadband, I signed up with BT Mobile, and was assured that if network coverage was bad I would easily be able to cancel and move to another provider. Signing up was very rapid, SIM arrived in no time, and 02 immediately provided a PAC to move my existing number to BT. But no BT mobile coverage at home or in the near area... So I immediately got back to BT and cancelled my contract. 2 days later, no PAC... 1 week later, still no PAC. 10 days later, still no PAC. 2 weeks later, still no PAC... I kept on being told that the account was still "open" and a PAC could not be issued until it was closed. Technical staff were working on it, and would keep me informed. Although I told them they had to phone on my land line, they tried to contact me on my mobile - even though they knew I had no network coverage! Stephen, Mandy, Aileen, Jasmin etc all tried to help during excruciatingly long and slow "chats". An email even arrived from "Libby Barr" who is supposed to be in charge. Is this person real? You can't speak with her, and she won't phone you. What fantastic service for a communications company. No one was properly listening to me, and although chat and phone staff were very pleasant, I had to endlessly repeat the same information, to no effect. Yesterday - hurrah! - I was finally given a PAC, strangely enough not long after asking for a deadlock letter so that I could take my complaint to the regulator. But what a horrible, time-consuming process to go through. It does not need to be like this.

Hi Brait, can you tell me what a deadlock letter is? I also am having problems with BT and I am also getting bad service as you can see here.

    Hi everyone, I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I have been very very frustrated by this problem. [I could not create new windows, and anything that opens new windows, such as trying to see what Add-ons you have etc would not work]. I read about changing screen alignment to the top... I have one screen so the option does not exist. The above messages would not fix this problem. I searched hard and did find a solution in the end. I read stuff about removing Add-ons until the problem is fixed, but its simply not the case.
    First of all open Firefox. next go to options: Help --- 'Restart with Add-ons disabled'. Tick the box for add-ons, restart firefox. Next go to Tools --- Add-ons. Next (In the Add-ons Manager' click on 'Plugins' on the left hand side pane. Look for the small blue writing that says 'Check to see if your plugins are up to date'.
    Now notice it should say 'Missing Flash'. "For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Flash. Please upgrade to the latest version". I followed this, reinstalled Flash and it now works as it always did, no problems. For people where the above fix didn't work, try this one out. Hope it helps people!

    If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:

    Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".

    Unfortunately, OSX 10.6.8 will not support iCloud. You can use the mail address from the iCloud account with Snow Leopard bot not the rest of the iCloud features. You can access then via the web browser though at iCloud.com.
    To set up iCloud mail.
    Delete your mail account from Mail preferences and set it up again using the Mail Server Information.
    Some users have apparently encountered issues using this information in pre-Lion set ups (I haven't), Roger Wilmut has kindly provided instructions for those who find themselves with this problem.

  • How do you get a RESPONSE from Verizon?

    How does one get a response from Verizon?  Here's my situation...
    Given the amount of trouble that I have had with a recent order, you would think that I was trying to land a 747 jet on my roof.  In reality, all I was aiming to do was to cancel the $19.99 per month phone service that I never used.  I do not even own a phone, for that matter.  I also had enhanced high speed Internet, and I wanted to retain the high speed Internet.  A few days before January 13, 2012, I called Verizon and spoke to the 1st sales representative, who ensured me that it was no problem to cancel the phone service and yet retain the high speed Internet for the same monthly price.  24 hours later, my high speed DSL service was no longer functioning.  I will try to briefly explain the disastrous customer service that ensued. 
    The first several phone calls to Verizon were not productive as I was transferred to the wrong department, and then at least one of my phone calls was dropped by the Verizon server.  The representative did not call me back.  I finally got in touch with a technical support representative, the 2nd Verizon representative, who informed me that the high speed Internet had been turned off and that I had to speak to a sales representative to solve the issue.  Another sales representative, the 3rd Verizon representative, informed me that the 1st representative had cancelled my phone line, and thus cancelled all of my services.  Great.  The 3rd representative informed me that he was absolutely capable of handling the problem and that he would simply add a new order for high speed Internet, which was to be activated the next morning.  The next morning came and went, and guess what?  No Internet.  I called again.  The 4th Verizon representative told me that everything that had been done previously was incorrect and that the sales department is not capable of making such changes.  She told me that she could not help me and that my claim had to be submitted to a different department, which has the authority to un-do all of the previous changes.  She told me that I would receive a call back the same day to resolve the issue.  Given my previous experiences with Verizon, I was confident that I would not, in fact, receive a call back and so I asked her how I could get transferred to this department, if I needed to call again.  She said that I could not be transferred.  Okay.  So then I asked her what to ask for so that next time I called, I could be transferred to the correct department without dealing with yet another sales representative who gives me yet a different story.  She informed me that she could not provide that information to customers.  The Department That Shall Not Be Named (and that I cannot contact) did not call me, and I was not surprised.  Unfortunately, I did not know how to go about contacting them, because, as I was told, customers aren’t allowed to do that. 
    The 6th phone call to Verizon was dropped by the Verizon server.  The 7th phone call to Verizon went to the 5th Verizon representative, a sales associate who placed us on hold for the first 15 minutes only to inform us that she could not find any record of our Internet service.  What the heck was she doing, checking her Facebook account?  She finally returns, puts us on another extended hold, and then adamantly tells us that we need to speak with technical support, which, if you recall, was the first Verizon party that I spoke at the beginning of this debacle.  The 5th  representative transfers me again to technical support.  Of course, the technical support personnel, the 6th Verizon representative said what the first one did, that the account was inactive and that we needed to talk to the sales department.  My husband was on the phone at this point because I was DONE.  When the 6th technical support representative tried to transfer him back to the sales department, my husband insisted that the 6th technical support representative remain on the line while we spoke to yet another sales representative, the 7th Verizon representative.  The 6th technical support representative patiently waited with us while we sat in yet another long queue to speak with a member of the sales department. 
    The 7th sale representative, from the retention department based out of New Jersey, found that all previous orders had been set up erroneously.  She cancelled the old orders and reinstated a completely new order.  The DSL began working a few days later.  MAGIC.  She then left me a voicemail message saying that she would eliminate the activation and shipping fee (duh) as I never canceled the account to begin with and as I already had the equipment.  She also applied a coupon to reduce the price to around $30 per month, assured for the next 2 years.  I was relieved. 
    You can imagine our frustration then when we received the bill for $79 on February 6, 2012, which included a much higher monthly rate (around $45) and the shipping and activation fee of $19.99 that we were assured we would not pay. Again, nothing was shipped to us because we already had the equipment.
    Our next phone call to Verizon landed us with a guy, the 8th Verizon representative, who had no intention of helping us.  According to him, there was no record of these wrongs, and despite the fact that we had an old account number and three order numbers that were screwed up, he did not deem that there was enough evidence to change our monthly bill.  (Unfortunately, the 7th Verizon representative did not make notes or appropriately document the situation on the new account.)  The 8th Verizon representative then had the audacity to comment that we could be lying to him, yet he was unwilling to view the evidence that we could have presented.  Instead, he suggested that we call tech support again and try to go through the same process to get connected to the mysterious “retention department” which he knew nothing about. 
    At this point, I was beyond fed up.  The attitude of the 8th Verizon representative put me over the edge.  I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) with an abbreviated version of this story.  I did not file the complaint to get back at Verizon.  Instead, I filed the complaint because I knew that another phone call to Verizon would be useless.  I’ve been dealing with this issue for over a month, and I’m sick of it.  I have better things to do with my time, believe it or not, and this situation has resulted in a significantly waste of my time over what, in my opinion, was a very simple issue to resolve. 
    The BBB processed the complaint and I was contacted last Friday afternoon by a Verizon representative (the 9th) who said that she was looking into the matter and that she would respond to me within two to three business days.  Well, it’s almost the end of the week, and I have received no response.  Again, after all of this, how could I be surprised? 
    I have been a Verizon customer, wireless and residential, for as long as I can remember, but I am reaching the point of outrage.  This situation is truly unacceptable. 
    You would think that, in 2012, with all of the technology available to us and the fact that Verizon is a COMMUNICATIONS COMPANY, that at least Verizon employees would be able to make a basic change to an existing order and that at least one out of 9 Verizon representatives would be able to solve this issue in a span of over four weeks.  Think again. 
    How does one get a response from Verizon?

  • How to get a file from an internet site

    I have a scenario where I need to get a file from a website.
    Basically on a weekly basis one our customers are going to upload a file that contains all the information for delivery's for the coming week.
    the way this used to be done is the user would go to the website directly and download the uploaded file.
    However now we want to do it as an automatic integration using PI.
    Does anyone have an idea how to do this?  Is it even possible?

    I am sorry, I misunderstood this. I thought you want to download.
    The upload is done with a HTTP POST, so you can use the HTTP receiver adapter.
    Use the prolog and epilog to simulate the form data post.
    Use an HTTP sniffer to get the whole HTTP stream, when you upload the file to the website to see, what you have to put in the HTTP adapter settings.

    Choose Consolidate Library from the Library section of the File menu, copy the iTunes folder(not just iTunes Music) to an external drive, put that folder on the new computer, launch iTunes with the Option key held down, and point it to that library. Alternatively, back it up to CDs or DVDs and restore the backup on the new computer.

    How can I get a refund from an app that I bought? I bought an app called Package for MS Office on the 8th of January and I also reported a problem and they have not got back to me with a response. It has been 3 weeks now and I am still waiting for a reply back. Very disappointed.

    I have now got an openoffice which I got from the internet. But the main thing is I paid £20.99 for this app and It is irriatting that the people who work for apple havent got back to me when I first reported a problem. I reported to them again and hoping that they will eventually get back to me.

  • 14 weeks to get a phone line installed - £10 compe...

    I moved house on 28/07 and after a huge amount of problems with Orange and after managing to cancel my account with them I ordered BT Broadband and Evening & Weekend Calls on 07/08/12.
    I get 3 emails confirming my order, thanking me for choosing paperless billing etc.

    I get a text and an email on 12/07 to remind me of my appointment between 1pm and 6pm. So far so good.
    The router gets delivered at 12.30am. This is promising.
    The engineer comes at 13.30pm, installs the BT Open Reach box in my flat and then asks me if I can open the electronic gate next door as he needs access to my neighbour’s pathway to activate the distribution point. I tell him I cannot as it’s not my building. We try the trades button on the door system. It doesn’t work. We try pressing random house numbers on the door system (there’s no flat numbers on the building) to see if someone’s home. Nothing works. I phone my landlord who tells me this is a council building. No one is coming in and out of the building/gate. After about 30 minutes of trying and waiting I tell him just to use his ladder and climb over the gate (it’s about 6 foot) and activate the distribution point. I’ll take the blame if someone complains. It shouldn’t be a problem as I live next door, I’ve got a BT Open Reach engineer with me and we have a perfectly valid reason to do it. He tells me he can’t do that because of health and safety riles and trespassing laws. Fair enough.
    The engineer leaves but before he does he tells me that when I’ve got access to the pathway BT would be able to send an engineer within 24 hours to activate the distribution point. He also tells me there is no need for me to be there the next time as all the work inside is completed and the only thing that needs to happen is for someone to activate the distribution point which is located on a wall on my neighbours building accessible from the pathway. He points it out to me and there is indeed a black box on the wall which can be reached using a ladder in the pathway.
    I phone BT to see if anyone can find out how to get access to the pathway as I assume that if BT has installed a distribution point there they must have a way for them to get access to it. Especially as the engineer told me there are 3 lines in my building so this must have happened before. I was wrong. I have to argue with the customer service person with a very poor command of the English language for 30 minutes. He doesn’t know what “the council” is and doesn’t understand whatsoever why I –and I quote- “Can’t just ask the neighbour to let the engineer in when the next appointment has been made”. I try to explain to him there is an electronic metal gate with a call system and I am unable to call anyone as there are no flat numbers on the outside of the building and asked if he was suggesting that I wait all evening after work until someone comes out and that even then, surely I can’t ask my neighbour to stay home to let a BT engineer onto his pathway because I am trying to get a phone line installed. He then presented me with another option: “We can install a new line from the road but this is chargeable by £350”. After 30 minutes of this and asking to speak to a manager several times –which was refused- I had enough and hung up.
    Determined to get the problem resolved I rang again and got someone else on the phone. She was quite sympathetic and advised me to phone the council and see if they can help. She confirmed that I didn’t need to be there for the next appointment if someone could give the engineer access to the distribution point as all the work apart from the distribution point activation was complete. By this time it was 4pm on a Friday and she promised to call back at 4pm on Monday.
    I called the council right away but they said the caretakers had gone home as it was late on a Friday and advised me to ring back on Monday.
    I get a text from BT: sorry we missed you appointment etc.
    BT calls me on Monday morning 10.30am asking if I’ve sorted it. I tell the person I was expecting a call from them at 4pm and therefore I hadn’t rang the council yet. He promises to ring me back on Wednesday at 10.30am.
    I call the council later that day; they’re not very helpful and advise me to call them again on Tuesday.
    On Tuesday they log the call and lo and behold. Wednesday at 8.30am, the caretaker calls me, gives me his mobile number, tells me the trades button on the call system will work before 9.30am and they can give them access remotely. If they’re coming after 9.30am, the engineer needs to ring him an hour in advance and he’ll come to open the gate. We’re getting somewhere.
    I don’t get a call on Wednesday 10.30am.
    I call them myself that afternoon and explain the above. The guy says he’s written it all down, everything will get sorted and I’ll get a text with the new time and date.
    Someone with a very poor command of the English language phones me on Thursday. I asked why she is ringing me. She says it’s to makes an engineer appointment. I tell her she doesn’t need to ring me as I don’t need to be in the property and they should all the information needed as I called them the day before. She doesn’t have a clue what I’m on about. I tell her to read out what she has on her screen under the notes as I now don’t trust that the person the day before has written it down properly. She once again doesn’t have a clue what I’m on about. I ask to speak to her manager. She says he’ll call me back. 5 minutes later he does. His English is excellent and he seems to have found the notes and knows exactly what’s going on. This is encouraging. He says the first appointment they have is 03/10 (it is now 20/09) but he’ll make sure they get it earlier and he’ll ring me back. The first person that hardly speaks English calls back. She says the appointment will be on 03/10 between 8am and 1pm. I tell her that her manager told me he was going to make sure it was going to be earlier and ask her why he lied to me. She doesn’t understand what I’m saying. I try to explain to her that trades button on the call system will work before 9.30am and they can give them access remotely but if they’re coming after 9.30am, the engineer needs to ring him an hour in advance and he’ll come to open the gate. She doesn’t understand what I’m saying. I ask her to get her manager to ring me back as he speaks English. She says he’ll call within 15 minutes. I get a text 5 minutes later confirming my appointment for 03/10 between 8am and 1pm.
    On 02/10 I phone the caretaker in the morning to let him know they’re coming on 03/10 between 8am and 1pm. I also called BT once again to check everything was clear, confirming they have the correct mobile number of the caretaker etc. They say they have all the information needed and promise that the work will be done.
    I phone on the afternoon of the 3rd to check the work had been done and I am told that it hasn’t as the engineer needs access to a flat roof and the caretaker can’t provide him with that. I explain that the original engineer had been on the flat roof already and told me they only needed to get through the gate to activate the distribution point so I don’t understand why they now need to get back on the roof. The roof can be accessed with a ladder (which they all standard have with them) from the pavement anyway so why do I need to be there? They tell me that the engineer has tried to call me but my phone was switched off. I am 100% sure that my phone has been on all day and I haven’t received any missed calls. Also, after all of the above, I wouldn’t switch my phone off on the crucial day. The engineer is lying. After being on the line for 15 minutes (as it takes at least 5 minutes to go through the automated menu every single time you call them and it literally takes a minute for the information to come up on their screen every time they need to access a file) that I don’t have time to discuss this right now as I have an important teleconference with an overseas client and ask for someone to call me back that evening to discuss this as I am busy at work all day.
    I receive a text 10 minutes later saying the next engineer appointment is 12/11 between 1pm and 6pm.
    This is 14 (!!!) weeks after ordering the service. I phone back when I have a short break at work to discuss this and request a call back. Someone calls me back 5 minutes later and asked for my account information which I don’t have handy so I ask to hold on while I’m looking it up. She hangs up on me.
    I stay late at work to write an email on the email form on the website with a watered down version of all of the above and I get a confirmation email that it’s arrived.
    I get another text that evening at 8.40pm as well as an email saying -once again-  that the next engineer appointment is 12/11 between 1pm and 6pm.
    Someone calls me at 8.50pm saying that the next engineer appointment is 12/11. I tell him I know this as they’ve sent me 2 texts and an email already and that this date is unacceptable and ask to speak to his manager. He tells me I need to call the Order Management Department. I ask him what the number is. You’ve guessed it: 0800 0800 150.
    Someone called Chris XXXXX calls me the morning after to discuss the email I’ve written the day before. He gives me the usual “Open Reach controls the engineers” story and tells me the appointment will not be earlier than 12/11. I tell him this is unacceptable and if the appointment can’t be moved forward I want some compensation for all the expense and inconvenience caused. He tells me that since I haven’t been billed yet I’m not eligible for any compensation but as a gesture of good will he will give me £10 which I’m normally not eligible  for as this is only given to people whose engineer didn’t come on time. I try to explain that if the engineer would have called me as he said he’s done (and not lied like he’s done) I could have explained where the distribution point was and I probably even would have rushed home from work to finally get it sorted. We argue a bit about compensation in which he tells me he’s already doing me a favour by giving me £10. I stop the argument to discuss more practical issues and ask him if I now need to be home on 12/11. He says I do. I now need to take another day off work it seems. I ask him if the caretaker needs to be there as well. He says he does. I ask him if I should invite anyone else and provide tea and biscuits for everyone. I don’t think he gets the joke. We argue a bit more about compensation, we get nowhere. I’m now getting upset. He says he’ll call me back at 1.30pm.
    He does and immediately I ask him for his direct phone number. He says he doesn’t have one. I ask him for his email address. He says he doesn’t have one. I ask how to get in touch with him. He says through the 0800 call centre or the form on the website. Now the line gets really bad and gets disconnected. There is nothing wrong with my mobile or signal, I have 5 bars and 3G showing but I can’t hear him and the line gets disconnected. This happens 2 more times. I get him back on the phone and I ask him to call me back on my work landline. He does and a number shows up on the phone (not the 0800 one that showed up when he called my mobile). I immediately write it down and tell him he just lied to me about not having a direct line. He says it’s a desk used by many people. I tell him that if I ring that number and he’s around there’s chance I could get to speak to him surely. He says it’s only used for outgoing calls. I haven’t tried to ring it and can’t be bothered to be honest. I stop this argument and bring the conversation back to compensation. I ask if he can at least give me a few extra months free or upgrade my account for free for a few months maybe by throwing in some telly or something. He says he can’t do that and they can review compensation once the line has been installed. I tell him that’s not good enough and that this whole story is going online and hang up.
    Worst customer service I’ve ever experienced and it seems that I’m stuck with it because I’ve already got an appointment and cancelling and going with another provider will result in an even longer wait.
    I’ve been offered £10 compensation for taking 2 days of work, hours on the phone, massive mobile phone bills, a lot of stress and 14 weeks without a landline or internet. Truly unbelievable.

  • I have been trying for 4 weeks to get my iPod to connect

    Hi, I have been trying for the last 4 weeks to get my iPod to work with my computer. I am computer literate, i built my own computer, i make games, etc. so i know what im doing when i use my computer. That being said, here is my problem.
    When i connect my iPod to the computer i hear the noise saying it is connected, and i see the Hardware icon at the bottom that shosw that it is connected. When i start iTunes it dosnt show up, i go into the options and it says no iPod connected. Then i try to go into My Computer to see if it shows up, it dosnt. So then i go into my device manager and i see that there is an iPod there, i try to reinstall but it still dosnt work. Next i tried to go into Control Pannel->Admin Tools->Computer Management. In there i click on Disk Management to see if my iPod shows up. I scroll down and there it is, Cribs Ipod. It dosnt have a drive letter, so i try to give it one but it dosnt let me. After all this i try to update the iPod but it just says that it cannot be read.
    So, next i bring my iPod to my laptop and plug it in. It works, perfectly. i update the software and it works. But my music is all on my desktop so i try everything over again with the updated iPod, still dosnt work.
    I have bought a USB PCI card for my computer and tried it on that, didnt work. Tried buying a new cable, didnt work. I have tried updateing every single peice of hardware on my computer and updating windows, none of it worked.
    I have gone through all of the support forums and FAQ to try and fig it. I have done the 5 r's and all that. None of it worked.
    I am flat out of ideas other than it being my iPod, but my iPod works with my laptop. It would be very very helpful if you could help me. I dont wanna have to go buy some other MP3 player.

    Since two weeks, I can't buy from my home store in Thailand anymore because I cannot read the language.
    Before, I could access any item I wanted and I bought devices and articles worth many thousands of US-Dollars over the years.
    The problem is that due to my profession, I've been living in many different countries within tha past 20 years, currently I am staying in China.
    My home is in Thailand but as native German, I can speak Thai reasonably but I can hardly read.
    Until two weeks ago whenever I logged into my account, everything came up in English and I could buy whatever I wanted.
    Now, as soon as I log in, everything comes up in Thai and the articles on the Thai market are very limited - so I'm snookered.
    When I change the store to German or American, I can look what I want but it won't let me buy and reverts to the Thai store again.
    I cannot create and sign in with another Apple-ID because I do not have any methods of payment, an alien CC nor in Germany neither in the States, so I'm snookered again.
    I tried getting support and spend days and nights now without making any progress in finding a solution.
    Momentarily, I'm so very much p...... off, that I would like to take ALL of my Apple stuff and get rid of it.
    It's not the first time that I'm extremely disappointed with Apple.
    As I mentionend, I lived in many countries over the years with quite a number of different Apple-IDs.
    Ever tried to retrieve your password or ID???? Have Fun...... ridiculous!
    I almost made my mind up and throwing the whole Apple-shebang and settle for something else instead.
    I would have got rid of everything already but it's too much money lost that I spent on my Apple stuff already.
    This is the final straw I'm clinging to now......
    Anybody an idea what I can do???? or am I snookered without any chance to get another shot????

    The option to send reset info only appears if you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account. If you don't have one (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support or Apple to get the questions reset : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4551

    I am getting this same message.  I recently bought a new Macbook Pro and the geeks transferred my files from my mini-mac.  Perhaps they did not transfer something critical?  I follow the "locate" option when it asks to find my files and I get a file folder that has a red circle with a white bar in the middle. 
    I have the same issues with my downloaded movies but my apps all seem to be fine.
    Even more confusing - it seems to allow random songs to play and download on my Macbook and other devices.  But most of my music - whether downloaded from iTunes or my CD collection comes up with that message about the original file. 
    Should I get new geeks to locate these files on my old mini-mac?
